Not only do we have a leftover shelf but we have a basket in our fridge that is for USE UP FIRST. Bits and pieces go there that need to be used before anything else. I love this!
Dear Emmy & Paul, I live in East France and this is what I never go without: Coffee, tomato sauce, pasta, shelf stable milk, honey, flour, sugar, all sorts of dried fruits and rice....love your recipes..All the best to you...Gaelle
Dear Emmy & Paul, these are great ideas! What I always keep in my pantry are dates (as dried fruits), rolled oats and shelf-stable milk. These are very nourishing and you could live on this for quite a while and you won't have to cook them in case of a blackout. Lots of love, Marina
Theresa in the UK we call it Long Life Milk- carton milk with a very long best by date- usually up to 12 months, can be kept in the pantry, then in the fridge when opened.xx
Hi from Scotland Emmy and Paul 😊. I love your channel and my husband and I are in the same position as you. Hubby retired at 55 me at 51. 2 years now and it's amazing. We have to watch the pennies as we live on one pension and won't get our state pensions til 67 😟 but I wouldn't change it for anything. Your channel has been such an inspiration so thank you. I never run out of oats, lentils and jars of pesto 😊
My top 3 ingredients are tuna for a quick lunch, pasta and sauce for a quick, cheap dinner, plus canned soup. I also have Stove Top Stuffing and peas to add to chicken or pork chops for a quick dinner. One thing that is very big around here in Wisconsin is buying meat directly from the farmer. We got a half a pig that is totally grass fed with no chemicals so we know what we are buying. We share it with our kids and keep it in our standing freezer. It was definitely worth the $.
Love the videos where you substitute foods and where you use up pantry and fridge items ! You are so creative !!! Glad to see all of the Paul approved recipes ! 😀 y’all are too cute for words !!! I really admire how you aren’t afraid to try new ways of cooking and baking . I made a breakfast casserole today & it called for cheddar cheese. I needed to use up my white cheddar & Gouda cheeses . I added those to the casserole & also a 1/2 tsp Cajun seasoning . I had to use ham lunch meat because I had no sausage . Casserole was a huge hit with the family ! Your videos have given me the courage to think outside the box !!! Love y’all !! God bless you both !
Top 3 items: mini chocolate chips, oatmeal, and loose leaf tea I love the breakfast casserole recipe- will definitely be trying that since it is about half the size of the usual recipe. Seems much easier too.
Before we went into COVID lockdown, I was at Costco. Apparently right after the announcement had been made, but I hadn’t heard it yet. It was just deathly silent in spite of it being very crowded. People were loading their carts, so I started doing it too. We’ve used everything I bought, so I didn’t make any bad purchases, but I did spend almost $400. I just got swept up in the moment. Two things I bought that I thought were smart were cans of V8 juice. I figure that has a lot of vegetable nutrition, so if we were without vegetables, we could drink that. I also bought individual serving size containers of mixed fruit for the same reason. I also discovered shelf stable boxed milk at The Dollar Tree, which has been very handy. Sometimes a recipe calls for whole milk and we typically only have 2% milk, so I’ll open a box of whole milk, use it in the recipe and then we just finish it the next time we need milk. It’s only a quart, so that’s not hard.
You could add spinach to that tuna pasta dish. Yum! 3 pantry things: whole oats, canned beans, dates. There a great on, date, oat nut no-bake cookie recipe- roll them in coconut, yum!
I am California and I never see albacore for a dollar here. My mom always bought albacore wine I was growing up. I like to see the cooking videos. Thank you for a positive video, I look forward to seeing them.
I keep a very large supply of canned tomato sauce, I use it to make homemade BBQ sauce, pizza sauce, taco sauce, the list is extensive…..as well as peanut butter and a variety of pastas…..thank you for the Paul approved recipes….
Great video! To your list of pantry must have items, I would add non-fat dry milk, cornmeal and raisins, I do the same as you with recipes. I collect old cookbooks they often have flexible "use what you have" recipes. I have one cookbook that has a chapter called "Nothin in the house but..." You can make soup out of almost anything, thicken a soup and you can get a casserole!
Black beans, pasta and sauce, and soup are my top three pantry items I try never to run out of, mainly because you always have a quick meal so no excuses about going to the drive thru.
Our top 3 pantry items are: Applesauce, Cinnamon & Pancake Mix. Very versatile in recipes. My favorite part viewing your videos are Baking and Cooking. Very Soothing and Homey 🏡.
I stock up on canned veggies, beans, stuffing, gravy, boxed mashed potatoes, frozen rolls, cake mixes, sugar, brown sugar and flour. For the refrigerator I stock up on butter, eggs, block cheeses, cream cheese, tuna and canned chicken. There has been some great deals around the holidays good time to buy extra.
As I text, the breadcrumbs(that is what I had) mixed with the cappers, onion, garlic, and instead of bacon, a small tin of chopped pork/ham. Divided into 3 small casserole dishes and in The Air Fryer at the moment.
I keep a running list of every item in my refrigerator, freezer & pantry so that I know what I have in my kitchen at all times. It make meal planning simple. I also keep a list of expiration dates of my foods, so that I can use up the "will expire soon" foods first. I keep these lists on my phone so that they are readily accessible. Hi Emmy & Paul! Besides items you mentioned, I stock canned soups (including cream soups), condiments (soy sauce, worcestershire sauce, salSa, mayo, ketchup, mustard) and canned fruits, applesauce, raisins & pie fillings. Not a fan of peanut butter but I have dry roasted peanuts & various nuts on hand. All this food talk is making me hungry! Homemade chicken soup & egg dumplings on the menu for this evening. Perfect for this autumn night! Hugs to you all! 🤗
Peanut butter, flour and coffee are what we always keep in the pantry . I thought Paul was so brave to try the tuna recipe. Off topic is I love all your different tops you wear .
I’ve seen recipes with just banana and oatmeal, now I’m going to make banana, peanut butter and oatmeal cookies. I have 2 very ripe banana ms on my counter.
Oh my! You won"t believe this, but I was just reading over your three ingredient peanut butter cookie recipe from 2020. I came across your recipe in one of my journals. Now, I will have to try the new cookie recipe along with the others you just shared. Thank you,😋
Hi! This week I retired by 15 year old flannel night gown and purchased another quality flannel gown (LL Bean). I'm thinking it will last 15 years too. The old night gown was recycled into doggie blankets for my little dog and the buttons went to my button box! Thanks for your great videos! Love to see Dixie dog and you too Paul LOL:)
Our 3 are wheat berries, spices, homecanned meats. We have to keep a very well stocked pantry with backups and long term storage because of where we live in a very rural area. It’s a 100 mile trip to go to Walmart, Kroger, aldi, etc. we also raise gardens, breed and raise chickens and I cook and bake everything from scratch. I never by cream soups because I make home made mixes for them. It has made our grocery bill cheaper and easier to stock the ingredients we can’t grow or raise. God Bless
@@FrugalMoneySaver you’re very welcome. Hope you have a great week. I really love your videos full of great info without the doom & gloom but hope and positivity.
Another Great video!! I actually have 4 ingredients that are must haves for me - I always keep flour, dried beans, canned chicken, and peanut butter. I can make so many different meals with those items
Always have tinned beans, tinned or frozen veggies and brown rice. Many, many meals with different spices. Don't forget casserole and stews can be made into soups for lunch yummy x
My mom, passed a few years ago, so now my dad always keeps a container of vegetable broth on the shelf. If something cooking needs a little more liquid, or a stew/casserole needs a little thinning he adds vegetable broth. My mom always said better to add flavor than just plain water. We try to keep tortillas on hand. Leftovers can often be recreated into wraps for a quick meal. Just add some shredded cheese and maybe a little sour cream. Another fun video, thank you!
Our first zero food waste activity is to put those single serving left-overs into the freezer before they get too old and definitely before they go bad. We are quick to dice and slice produce for the freezer too. Most often we used regular zip lock bags or bread bags which works 'cause these things only stay in the refridgerator freezer for a couple of days to no more than 3 months. Our second is to dump left overs from fridge and freezer into a soup concoction, the wilting veggies, and other stuff as needed from the freezer or pantry. Anymore, we use the crockpot on low cause you can dump and go; you don't need to watch, check, nor stir although this also happens to save on power out primary purpose is for covience. Fruit can be mashed and shredded for use in a banana/ zucchini bread; use shredded carrots if you need more volume. Another tip is to look at the produce scraps you're tossing. Many can actually be eaten. The same with fluid from canned items, cooked items from pasta to veggies, etc.... For decades, every so often I've challenged myself to come up with ways to eat the things I'm tossing; some I'm willing to incorporate others I would do only if I were hungry enough. Using a rubber or silicone spatula to scrape and recoup food from jars, cans, mixing bowls, cooking pans, and serving bowls is another zero food waste activity we routinely do.
My pantry always has soups, peanut butter, canned veggies and fruits, canned meats, rice and pasta, beans( canned and dried) sugar, flour and cornmeal. For treats I also keep cake mix, brownie mix for quick dessert and coffee time with friends and family.
The egg, bacon cheese bake is a variation of my family's traditional Christmas morning breakfast casserole. You can do it with breakfast sausage or veggies. Yummy and repeats well too!
Thanks for the inspiration! This morning I made a breakfast casserole with Swiss, ham, green onions, and sun-dried tomatoes. I had extra bread, so I made an apple bread pudding as well. So delish!
Three ingredient recipes are such a blessing. I know these were delicious cookies as well as the tuna recipe. My pantry almost always has potatoes, Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning or salt and pepper, cream of chicken with herbs or plain, a can of water, a little better than bouillon... (veg or chicken use it up, if it's getting bare by adding water to the jar), cheddar cheese about 4 oz, ritz crackers or corn flakes and butter. We keep a good supply of chicken in our freezer. If you get creative with these ingredients you can have a meal in about 45 minutes or less. This can vary with any added frozen veggies or canned if you like. Changing the potatoes to rice can make your casserole delicious. We enjoy mixed vegetables, or canned Mexican corn. Sometimes I add frozen broccoli. This sounds like a lot, but it's so easy and delicious. I hope this gives someone an additional recipe for menu planning. Sorry I've been away. I love your channel and we're back home after remodeling. Much love to you and yours!!! Willette from the South
My top three pantry items are cream of chicken soup, salsa, and spaghetti sauce. These help me make soups and casseroles - especially yummy during the fall. Btw, love that retro tablecloth - reminds me of my grandma. ❤
Hi Emmy and Paul..I keep tuna, pasta, canned mushrooms. Canned Mushrooms because they can make a meaty substitute or extender or use them in gravy or make cream of mushroom soup.
Hi Emmy I’ve watched your channel from the beginning, and enjoy it so much- you are both so positive! I took semi retirement at 55 and have just fully retired from the NHS at 60. My husband still works part time, but we decided to embrace a simpler life and enjoy spending more time together❤ Before I go food shopping each week I make a “clear out” soup of all the leftover veggies in the fridge, I always buy tinned carrots to throw in the slow cooker for stews and soups, and I make sure I have canned tuna in spring water (not brine) for sandwiches, jacket potatoes, pasta bakes etc. I’m slowly building up my winter store of tinned fruit and veggies- thanks for all the inspiration!
Thick rolled oats, dried cranberries and rice are all foods I won't let my family run out of. Most of my family ( husband and 4 growing children and I) eat oatmeal with cranberries cooked in. I keep a very well stocked pantry and freezers and home can about 1,000 jars a year.
My children's favorite breakfast came from necessity. I had two eggs and two slices of bacon and one bread heel. I chopped the bacon then fried. I tore the bread into pieces and added to the pan. Covered with the eggs scrambled. Fed three people well. They still request it.
My top items to keep on hand powdered eggs (because I am not an egg person and wasted too many fresh eggs), canned fruit for easy breakfasts, and canned/dry soup. Those cookies looked yummy! I love these zero waste videos. I think these are going to be critical in the times we are facing. I hop you do a lot more of these. Have a great weekend!
My son can’t have canned food. It showed up high on a blood test. I can’t remember what was high. But last test it was back to normal. I found instead of pinto beans I use Anazi beans. I can’t eat cheese even though I like it. It looks yummy. I bought a food saver last time I went grocery store. Came home put it into serving. It doubled almost my groceries and meal. I use to make macaroni and cheese with peas and tuna.
Hi Emmy and Paul. Great recipes. Love when you do the zero food waste ideas. The 3 things we absolutely have to have in the pantry: oatmeal, peanut butter, and canned meat. Have a great weekend. God Bless.
Oats, beans, nuts ( I am plant based ) I can make milk with the oats and nuts and bread and bars with the oats and nuts. I make proteins such as black bean burgers and use lentils for soup, tacos and Shepard’s pie.
We used to have dinners for fund raisers with Strata, had your ingredients but ham instead of bacon and broccoli making it very savory. This is a very nice weekend brunch, but even better if refrigerated overnight to allow bread to soak before baking, any veg, meat etc.
I couldn't narrow it to three that you didn't mention. I had to list four. Salsa, fresh onions, jar/can green chilies, and jar/can sliced mushrooms. You might not consider fresh onions since they are fresh--but they last and last. At least that would get my list down to three!
Powder milk, instant potatoes, beans. I live in an apartment so limited storage space. But l still have an apartment size chest freezer. I still buy some things in family size packages because better than single packaged. I then use my sealer and package up for single servings. This way if l do plan on having guess l only take out what l need. 2 places l lived would not let you have freezers but l still managed to have mine by just placing in a way it could not be seen when inspections where done. I would be lost without my freezer. It saves me so much money having it.
It’s like a very traditional British Pudding - Bread and Butter Pudding. Just remove the cheese and bacon. Then butter the bread and add sugar to the milk❤️
we always have rice lentils pasta. canned goods seasonings butter lunch meat bread cheese cereal milk eggs meat(omit if vegan) water.(we fill up empty pop bottles,Gatorade bottles after using original product) coffee, brew and instant diabetic, brown, powdered, and regular sugar oil peanut butter jelly, jam, preserves, fruit spread syrup tea. creamer, liquid and powder dried milk
Pantry items I always keep stocked are peanut butter, oatmeal, eggs and coffee. I eat oatmeal each day for breakfast. I put it with banana, peanut butter and dried fruit. It’s my go to breakfast each morning.
omg loved all but the tuna and that is because i don't do fish! however i am on slimming world so as much as i would love the peanut butter cookies i must just imagine how wonderful they are. my top three pantry goods would be tinned tomatoes, baked beans and pasta. i could also never be without tea bags just love my cuppa x
I always have oats, sugar and flour. I was surprised I had all pantry except 1 from your list. I am really trying to build a good pantry, gues I'm doing OK. You really inspire me to stay on that frugal path Thank you.❤️
1) Salsa: use on eggs, baked potatoes, chicken, with rice and beans, with beef, with shrimp, and pasta. 2) Canned soup either for adding to casseroles or for eating with a sandwich or salad for a quick meal. 3) Cornmeal to make my own corn bread and corn muffins. They can be plain, with honey, with cheddar, with jalapeños. Can also be used in casseroles or as polenta.
Emmy and Paul, I love that you make such practical videos that provide helpful info for thriving in current times and you don’t use alarming titles or startle tactics. I really appreciate your calm positivity and your creativity. And of course, the tasty recipes 😊
Living in Ontario Canada, I must always have pure maple syrup to put on my oats for breakfast. Also I am sure never to run out of coffee or eggs. Love your show!
I have a supply of all of the items on your list. But my top 3 would be peanut butter, canned tomatoes, dried/canned beans. I'm not a huge fan of tuna but that recipe does look good. My biggest challenge is using things up. I get annoyed with myself when I have to throw food out. I have been better this week. Used up some cauliflower, A lone potato, and some bacon to make a simple soup.
Top 3, as a home canner, green beans, jams, pie fillings. Don’t get me wrong i have oats, flour, etc. but come fall we always have a years worth of home canned goodness on the shelves. We are building a supply of “bought staples” this year.
What great ideas! I LOVE that cookie spoon, I have never found the ice cream scoop ones to last long or work well for me. I love that spoon contraption!! I always have oats ( for granola, cookies, breakfast) things to make chili or soups and all my baking ingredients because I bake often!
This was such a fun video! I enjoyed the recipe suggestions and the preparation demonstrations ❤ I always keep chicken stock, pasta, and canned tuna. I count my freezer as part of my pantry and I always have ground beef in there.
Rice, beans, coffee
Sounds great! Thanks for sharing!
Your videos are so inspiring. Thank you!
Thanks so much Gloria!
My top 3 staples are tea bags, rolled oats, maple syrup, canned tomatoes/tomato sauce or paste.
The things that I always keep on hand is Homemade canned chicken, pork, stock. With these three things I can always make a soup very quickly.
Sounds great!

Bummer! My husband hates bananas!! I love them. Go figure😊. We keep raisins, nuts, oatmeal and garlic. We love our garlic!!
All good choices!

My pantry always has soups, peanut butter, canned veggies and fruits, canned meats, rice and pasta, beans( canned and dried) sugar, flour and cornmeal. For treats I also keep cake mix, brownie mix for quick dessert and coffee time with friends and family.
Great suggestions Angela!
The egg, bacon cheese bake is a variation of my family's traditional Christmas morning breakfast casserole. You can do it with breakfast sausage or veggies. Yummy and repeats well too!
Sounds great!
Welcome Back Willette! So happy you checked in! Thanks for the great recipe tips!
My top three pantry items are cream of chicken soup, salsa, and spaghetti sauce. These help me make soups and casseroles - especially yummy during the fall. Btw, love that retro tablecloth - reminds me of my grandma. ❤
Thanks for sharing!!
Great video! My top three pantry items are: 1. Oats, 2. Containers of veggie broth, and 3. Dried fruit
Thanks so much for taking the time to share!
Hi Emmy and Paul..I keep tuna, pasta, canned mushrooms. Canned Mushrooms because they can make a meaty substitute or extender or use them in gravy or make cream of mushroom soup.
Sounds great!
Oats, pasta and seasoning!
Thanks Granny!
Oops forgot shelf milk, flour, yeast. 🙃
Hi Emmy I’ve watched your channel from the beginning, and enjoy it so much- you are both so positive!
I took semi retirement at 55 and have just fully retired from the NHS at 60. My husband still works part time, but we decided to embrace a simpler life and enjoy spending more time together❤
Before I go food shopping each week I make a “clear out” soup of all the leftover veggies in the fridge, I always buy tinned carrots to throw in the slow cooker for stews and soups, and I make sure I have canned tuna in spring water (not brine) for sandwiches, jacket potatoes, pasta bakes etc.
I’m slowly building up my winter store of tinned fruit and veggies- thanks for all the inspiration!
Thanks so much for all the channel support! Love the clear out soup!
Thick rolled oats, dried cranberries and rice are all foods I won't let my family run out of. Most of my family ( husband and 4 growing children and I) eat oatmeal with cranberries cooked in. I keep a very well stocked pantry and freezers and home can about 1,000 jars a year.
WOW! 1,000 jaars! Amazing!
My children's favorite breakfast came from necessity. I had two eggs and two slices of bacon and one bread heel. I chopped the bacon then fried. I tore the bread into pieces and added to the pan. Covered with the eggs scrambled. Fed three people well. They still request it.
Sounds great! So creative!
Top three: pasta/rice/peanut butter powder
Also self rising flour and dried milk
Thanks for sharing, Julie!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Sounds great! Thanks for sharing Sheryl!
Hi Emmy and Paul. Great recipes. Love when you do the zero food waste ideas. The 3 things we absolutely have to have in the pantry: oatmeal, peanut butter, and canned meat. Have a great weekend. God Bless.
Sounds great! Thanks for sharing! God Bless you as well!
Pasta, beans and rice for sure
Thanks for sharing!
I think our top 3 most used items would be beans, tuna, and jam. Great video, sending love from New Zealand
Thank you so much Angela! Sending love right back!
Refried beans, rice, mixed nuts. From Post Falls, Idaho
Perfect Lori!
Oats, beans, nuts ( I am plant based ) I can make milk with the oats and nuts and bread and bars with the oats and nuts. I make proteins such as black bean burgers and use lentils for soup, tacos and Shepard’s pie.
All great ideas Bonnie!
I have baked corn bread without eggs but have used 2-3 tablespoons of mayonnaise. Works great.
Thanks Katherine!
We used to have dinners for fund raisers with Strata, had your ingredients but ham instead of bacon and broccoli making it very savory. This is a very nice weekend brunch, but even better if refrigerated overnight to allow bread to soak before baking, any veg, meat etc.
Thanks Paula!
I couldn't narrow it to three that you didn't mention. I had to list four. Salsa, fresh onions, jar/can green chilies, and jar/can sliced mushrooms. You might not consider fresh onions since they are fresh--but they last and last. At least that would get my list down to three!
LOL! Sounds great! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing
I have been watching y'all from them beginning, and this is by FAR my favorite video. Please do more like this!!!! 💗

You guys are just the cutest and such an inspiration!! Makes me feel less alone on my own "no food waste quest"!!😂 Thanks for being awesome!
You are so welcome! Thank you!!
It’s like a very traditional British Pudding - Bread and Butter Pudding. Just remove the cheese and bacon. Then butter the bread and add sugar to the milk❤️
Sounds great!

Thank you.❤️
Wonderful! So happy our videos are helpful!
My 3 are:Trader Joes frozen I’ll butter salmon, spaghetti, decaf instant coffee!❤️
Dill butter salmon
1) Salsa: use on eggs, baked potatoes, chicken, with rice and beans, with beef, with shrimp, and pasta. 2) Canned soup either for adding to casseroles or for eating with a sandwich or salad for a quick meal. 3) Cornmeal to make my own corn bread and corn muffins. They can be plain, with honey, with cheddar, with jalapeños. Can also be used in casseroles or as polenta.
Sounds great! Thanks for sharing Eleanor!
My 3 stable ingredients that are always in my cabinet are: rice, pasta, and tomato sauce
Sounds great Kelly!
The three pantry staples I always have are salt, pepper, and cinnamon. They each go a long way in flavoring foods!!
So true Phyl!
Emmy and Paul, I love that you make such
practical videos that provide helpful info for thriving in current times and you don’t use alarming titles or startle tactics. I really appreciate your calm positivity and your creativity. And of course, the tasty recipes 😊
Thank you so much for the encouragement!
Living in Ontario Canada, I must always have pure maple syrup to put on my oats for breakfast. Also I am sure never to run out of coffee or eggs. Love your show!
Thanks so much Anne!
Me too Anne! I’m in Ottawa and we stock pile maple syrup every spring!
Coffee creamer cream soups lol lots items then can make just about anything ! Love your videos! Inspiring me clean out freezer! ❤
Thanks so much for watching!
Sounds wonderful! Thank you!
Top 3, as a home canner, green beans, jams, pie fillings. Don’t get me wrong i have oats, flour, etc. but come fall we always have a years worth of home canned goodness on the shelves. We are building a supply of “bought staples” this year.
That's great Karen!
What great ideas! I LOVE that cookie spoon, I have never found the ice cream scoop ones to last long or work well for me. I love that spoon contraption!! I always have oats ( for granola, cookies, breakfast) things to make chili or soups and all my baking ingredients because I bake often!
A kind viewer sent it to me...so helpful!
This was such a fun video! I enjoyed the recipe suggestions and the preparation demonstrations ❤
I always keep chicken stock, pasta, and canned tuna. I count my freezer as part of my pantry and I always have ground beef in there.
Sounds great! Thanks for sharing!
