Emmy and Paul we just love you guys! I am a widowed homeschool mom on a budget 💕 I have been using your videos as our home economics class in our homeschool 😀 My daughter is 11 and enjoys watching you guys so much! She wanted me to tell you that we have stopped buying processed food like cereal and we are eating hearty healthy food like oat groats in the crockpot that we put on before we go to bed. We have been eating a lot more soups and to prepare for Sabbath every Friday afternoon I make a whole chicken that's ready for Sabbath by sundown Friday night and on Saturday during Sabbath we can have the chicken cold in a salad or in a sandwich. I also mill my own wheat for over 13 years so we make everything homemade. Hamburger buns, crackers, bread, muffins are all homemade 😀. We pray Yeshua blesses you as much as you bless us!💕
Pam your comment made my day!!! It totally made my heart smile!! Tell your daughter that is so wonderful!! One of my favorite RUclipsrs Paul and I watch is Sonya's Prep. We love to watch her Sabbath cooking! So happy you are here! Thanks so much! 😊
I told my husband that this was going to be a "stewy and soupy" winter. It's the most economical way to stretch food! If a recipe calls for 1 lb. of ground beef, I use a half pound. Lots of rice and beans are on the menu too!
I dont buy deli meat anymore. I still make our lunches for work so I make a meatloaf for dinner and leftover meatloaf sandwiches for lunches. I buy a turkey brest and roast it thats dinner and sandwiches for lunch.. Deli meat is 8.99 a pound, the whole turkey brest is only 2.49 a pound thats a win in my book. I buy hams when they are on sale at the holidays and freeze them they become dinner and lunch meat.
I have been using Flash Food for quite awhile. Purchased a bag of veggies/fruit. When I went to pick it up, it had been discarded due to mold. The employee took a bag and went to the produce department and filled it with double what was in the original bag! Win/Win!
Little makes me happier than watching how someone makes a vegetable soup! Thank you. Btw…I’m in Palm Springs…. FoodFlash has no partnerships AT ALL out here. I hope they continue to grow.
My first tip to lower food waste is “If I don’t need it, or it’s not on sale,it’s not going in the cart. Also we have Clean out night once a week. I pull all the leftovers out and everyone has to pick and choose their own dinner. Sometimes its you pick 2 or 3 tupperware bowls and make a mashed up dinner, while someone else eats 2 other containers. Who knew taco toppings make great omelets or sloppy joe meat taste good on biscuits with fried rice on the side.
I live in The Netherlands and we have some other challenges as well. Last month elektricity was about 80 cents a KwH! Insane. Gas is also expensive. I put of the stove before food is ready to eat. You have to try how early this can be done. Lid on the pan and let it on the stoven or put it in a 'hay box'or something else to keep it warm. I often eat vegan and use for example brown lentils instead of minced meat. In pasta Bolognese this works very well. Especially when the carrots and celery are cut in a foodprocessor. The lovely garlic bread in the vid can be baked in a pan on a stove as well. This makes it cheaper in energy costs. I make my own veggie burgers in the foodprocessor with leftovers, Quick oats, herbs and spies. Bake them with some grease in a pan. I make my own margarine atm. Butter stays to hard to put on my bread. I soften the butter on a heater in my living room. Put it in a bowl. Add half a cup of mild olive oil, pinch of mustang powder as a binder. Mix well and put this in a jar. This is soft on room temperature and you do not need so much, so you stretch the amount of grease.
My Grandma used to be really frugal. She kept a gallon glass jar in her fridge to put leftover veggies and meats in. She gathered the leftovers and on Friday evening she'd make a soup. It was one of our favorite meals. The heels of the bread loaves she put in a cake pan in the oven of her gas oven to dry out. Then she'd use them as bread crumbs, croutons, and as stretchers in casseroles. She fed 5 people well, 3 meals and snacks a day.
That biscotti looked amazing. Stollen bread is pretty dense and cutting it thin and turning it into biscotti was a smart idea. I am glad that you found that app. In France it is illegal for supermarkets to throw away food, so they put out those boxes and they usually cost about $1.50 for produce. They also have those produce boxes in the UK for about a dollar. I was wondering when the U.S. was going to get a clue and stop wasting food. We usually shop at Costco or Sam's club. We buy meat and fish in bulk and portion it out once we get it home. Most of our left overs can be turned into fried rice or fried noodles if we don't eat it all up. Our son usually makes omelets or frittata out of left overs. Nothing goes to waste in their household.
I am saving the bones from rotisserie chicken and any juice in the box then add water and make a broth . After it’s cooked I strain it and safe the broth for later use. I do the same thing with steak bones great way to get beef broth
Yet again! You never cease to amaze me with ideas! Unfortunately no store near us utilize the app, but we always look for loss leaders in the local ads. And I'm proud to say that in the month of January, we put 1k into savings by being extra frugal! You are such an inspiration!!!! Lots of ❤️ from cajunland!!!!
We do a lot of cooking but also love to eat out so we ask our kids and grandkids to mainly give us restaurant giftcards for Christmas. We use them all through the cold, dark months and still ask for our senior discounts, use coupons and collect points from the ones that do that. It is easy for our kids and gives us lots of pleasure. Carole
I have always made garlic bread from hamburger and hot dog buns but love the idea of making ahead and freezing! Parmesan cheese on the bread is another amazing topping!
Great savings today grocery shopping. #1 I had a $25.00 coupon for Kroger. #2 Received 4 free grocery items & several items on sale. #3 Saved 65 cents per gal. off gasoline. & #4 At Trader Joes here in I paid 2.99 for a doz. eggs,, $1.49 Iceberg Lettuce, .29cents for a tomato & 1.99 for a bag of red potatoes. Exceptional pricing for my area.
A friend took us to lunch at a restaurant that served rolls. None of us ate them with our meal, so I took them home and made garlic bread using your recipe. God's timing is perfect.
To cut costs on eggs in baking I tried Bob’s Red Mill Egg replacer. Like getting 34 eggs for $5. Its shelf stable and keeps a long time! Eggs here are over $5/doz. So I tried it in a muffin mix. Awesome results. I shop clearance areas, loss leaders and sections with the more expensive perishable foods for GREAT markdowns and even free deals on clearance organic milks, creamers etc. Recently organic jars of mayo reg $7.39 😭 close dated at $1 each. I bought 10. Recently saved $600 treating my pet for a sensitive stomach ailment and respiratory infection. So now I make my cats food and am learning natural pet remedies. Oh and I make my tooth powder and mouthwash. Saves me 2 cleanings a year ($320, I was going 4 times annually) the money saved is helping me build a home apothecary to save more money. Thanks for the tip on the app!!
I just bought an air fryer and I love it! It's literally a small oven. Your food is ready in about 10 to 20 minutes and you don't need to use your big oven to cook food anymore. I got a 3.5 quart air fryer and it's enough to fit a small pizza, about a pound of roasted potatoes, a whole chicken breast, it's awesome! I'm not going out to buy fast food anymore because of the air fryer and that will save me A LOT! Highly recommend an air fryer, it's the new way of cooking in the modern world I think at least. I also bought the air fryer for $50 Canadian so lots of money saved there!
Since the end of last year, I've been using the mindset, " if I can buy it in the store, I can make it at home cheaper". I'm using up the last of my cream of soup, and I'm going to make it homemade from here on out. I've found a new recipe that calls for a cup of taco sauce, and instead of buying it, I've found a recipe that sounds super easy and has no preservatives in it.. So far, it's been a pretty easy switch. Thanks for the video Emmy and Paul!
God is so good! I try to shop at different stores here in California and now going to try to share and trade with others. My fridge isn't empty, My God shall supply all my needs according to His riches and Glory❤🤗❤
I am making lots of home cooked meals from scratch along with home baked bread and sweets so we don't feel deprived. Tomorrow I'll be making orange cranberry scones. 😋 We will enjoy them for breakfast this week and l'll be able to freeze some as well.
I used Flashfood for the first time last night. I'd downloaded the app a while ago, but it looks like Stop and Shop (which is the only participating store near me) didn't join until about two weeks ago. My $5 fruit box had a 3Ib bag of golden delicious apples, two mangos, 5 passion fruits, 4 pears, and 5 oranges. One of the oranges had molded between when the box was put together and when I unpacked it, but I still figure the haul was a success.
To help lower our food budget I’ve been making more meatless meals, and checking the local grocery ads for sales. In my everyday travels, to and from the kid’s schools and activities, I pass a few different grocery stores. So it doesn’t cost me anymore time or gas to stop in a store that has a couple items on sale and pick them up. I also use the store apps, if available, to clip coupons and use rewards. This week I saved almost $42 at one store by doing this, which was 41% of my total bill! Thank you for your inspiration!
That was an awesome 5 Dollar box of produce!!! I will have to get this app! Not sure if they have that near me. I make some kind of soup or spaghetti sauce and toss in leftover meats and vegetables. I simmer it all day on the stove or in the crock pot. I shop only what's on sale, and I buy lots of marked down veggies at my little market. I also, freeze extra beans, or half cans of something and wait to toss it into something. I also toss in rice or small amounts of past to stretch things out at a low cost. I also do a large batch or pot of food and put it into small containers for lunches. Nothing like wonderful leftovers for lunch. Nothing gets wasted! Love your videos!!! Keep on posting them. Thanks for all the info you share with us!
D,earest Emmy and Paul, THANK you for helping me and so many people (as K -Kristina said) with LOVE and RESPECT, I wish the whole world were as kind to each other as you. I, am a widow on Social Security and am cutting my food budget by buying in bulk. Oat groats, for me is cheaper than regular rolled oats, it also has more fiber, and I am batch cooking for 3-4 days at a time, saving on gas, by using my 25 years old crock pot! Please Keep doing what you do with God's sweet grace. We need more sweetness in this world!
I so love Fridays because I know your going to be releasing a video. I thought yesterday was Friday and imagine my disappointment when I realized it was Thursday and there was no Emmy and Paul 😅
Since I use Italian seasoning alot I started making my own. I use to buy Italian seasoning, I now make it with herbs I have grown... about 10% of the cost.
So inspiring. I ran to frig and found some use it up veggies: carrots, potatoes, a pepper, an onion and a couple of stalks of celery. Chopped everything up and dumped into the crockpot along with a can of clams and some canned diced tomatoes from the pantry. Added some spices and some water. Cheapo crockpot meal for under $5.00 and will make a least six single meals for me. Went with Manhattan style as I didn't have any milk and the veggies will die before I get to nearest store (60 miles away) next week. It is snowing again here so clam chowder will hit the spot. I peeked in my freezer hunting for some muffins and realized I have several packages of chopped zucchini, cauliflower, carrots and spinach from last year's garden so on Monday will create your Italian soup. Crockpot gets a workout every week here even in the summer. Other than my frying pan, most used kitcken appliance. Haven't had to shop but once per month this winter. We have limited stores in the area, but one is always consitently lowest in prices so unless one of the others has a great loss leader I stick with Super One. Manager gives me a heads up on bargains as I also shop for our local food bank when I go to town. It really helps if store employees get to know you.
My no spend Jan was great until today - now low spend. Just had to go out with my husband this evening. I’ve been a cooking fool this month. This wk - used all bread pieces of different kinds in the freezer and 2 turkey legs for a large pot of dressing/stuffing with onion, celery, lots of poultry seasoning & 1 c of the meat mixed in. Also had a bit of ham so made scalloped potatoes with onion & 3 oz of cheddar thrown in - again many servings. And 1/2+ lb of ground beef for chili with several cans of various beans (including 1/2 can refried beans for thickening) & spicy tomatoes. Good winter fare. 😋 Next wk will be your ‘must-go’ soup 😊 Go Chiefs 🏈
I work at a retailer that has the flash food case. It's located very close to my work station so I basically get first dibs. I can see when other workers fill the case. Its different stuff daily. I buy the cheeses and meats mostly and the veggies and fruit boxes are awsome also. It really is a neat idea.
We have been menu planning by using meats etc in freezer....buying lost leaders if needed...rotation foods....updated lists of all items in pantries etc to see what we really need...mostly buying fresh fruits, veggies If on sale
Thanks for sharing that app. I actually have my local store I go to all the time and they had a box. I'm picking it up today. Usually I go to this store and they have produce marked down, like bags of broccoli florets, cauliflower, and I get it discounted. I didn't realize there's another hidden discounted area. Love it. I have been using my pantry and freezer to try to get those surplused items down. I have too much for the amount of people in this house. So far so good. I think I have spent maybe a little over $100 in a month on groceries for three of us. I eat a lot of veggies as I don't eat meat, so that's mostly what is being bought. I'm only buying canned or other items if I'm truly out and I really need it. Thanks for all your tips. Made the bagels last weekend, had all the ingredients!! They came out really well.
You could sauté in the Instant Pot and then just add the broth/water and change the Instant to the slow cooker setting. That saves washing a pan and transferring pots. Also, my instant pot actually uses less energy than my crockpot.
Once you get used to using your instant pot, you will find it so practical. I found 9 chicken thighs for a good sale. I cooked them in the instant pot. Took the meat off the bone. I used 1/3 of the chicken for chicken spaghetti, another third in a chicken vegetable soup, and saved the last bit for a pot pie I will make this week. 3 meals with one pkg. And one time to cook the meat.
Emmy, you and Paul would be so happy, I counted the produce in the bags and I got one extra piece of produce in each bag,for a total of six extra pieces. I never thought of doing that. Thank you so much.
Honestly , I grow at least 80% of my veggies. I'm in NW FL . We do get freezes. But I have an outbuilding that has windows and I have peppers & tomatoes going now. I harvested several lbs. of broccoli & cauliflower a month ago. I grow my own lettuce , potatoes , carrots , onions , corn. I do both inground & container. NOW is the time to get with a neighbor , friend or family & PLAN YOUR VICTORY GARDEN ! I am VERY rural so there are few grocery stores & no loss leaders. BUT , we lack for nothing !
I LOVE soup! I will have to make this one. I start most days with a hot bowl of brothy soup, full of veggies and a little protein. It's a great way to start the day. I shop at different stores after comparing ads, and yes! I absolutely shop the loss leaders.
I have been using flash foods for a year now, have three stores in our area, only one has the greatest meat deals so if one store doesn’t have meat, look nearby. I’ve gotten huge roasts, ribeye steaks etc for $2 each. Never expired foods, I freeze what I buy, such good deals. The mixed produce boxes are always beautiful, just enough for the week, never disappointed.
The one change I’ve made is to limit the number of things we have open. I have a shelf in the fridge for treats. It’s where I put desserts and prepped fruit. Typically the shelf is pretty full, but I’ve been limiting the number of open things we have. So far in 2023 I’ve limited the shelf to one or two desserts. When we finish one, we thaw or make another, but when we have a bunch of open desserts, they seem to dry out before we finish them. Same with my leftover shelf. I switched to all the same type of rectangular glass containers so they stack nicely. When we are discussing who is cooking each night, we’ve both been making a concerted effort to use up things on the leftover shelf instead of making something else from scratch. If the shelf starts getting too full, it’s time for a leftover lunch or dinner. I took frozen vegetable soup out of the freezer yesterday for lunch today. I also found a pint of chicken and beef broth I thawed. I’ll add some pasta and maybe some of the leftover green beans for today's lunch. I’m really trying to work on a pantry and freezer challenge. We’ve got a long way to go! Thank you for your continuing inspiration!!!
I like to batch cook. I will cook a bag of lentils, beans, rice etc. since I cook for one I Put 2 servings in each ziplock and freeze for when I need it. Meals are faster and you only cook the beans and others once. Otherwise it's just cooked to reheat.
And what a huge blessing on nights when you are sooo tired to grab something from the freezer, pop it in the microwave, and go put your feet up while it "cooks". It's like having a personal chef! 🤗
App downloaded! Thank you! We have a store less than 2 miles away that participates. Hooray! Will be trying your yummy soup. Might add some cabbage, kale or other greens. Yummmmm. To save money, I’m working on getting through our freezer and pantry. Making combos that are out of my normal range. It’s good! Always growing and learning. I love it! Thank you so much for your channel.
I take a portion of my food budget and buy seeds for my garden and to start herbs for my window sill and garden. I m trying to think ahead because I don't see this economy turning around this year. I'm growing food to can, freeze and dehydrate.
I'm really getting hooked on your channel! Last week I went to the flipp app to see where chicken breast was on sale and found out a local store, that's not really convenient, started delivery and they offered $20 off on $50 purchase plus free delivery. I only had to tip and spent $40 for 18+ lbs of boneless skinless chicken breast, 2 servings of salmon and a jar of mayo. I portioned out the chicken in 2lb increments and froze it. I also feed my dogs raw and learned that I can get chicken necks 50 cents a pound cheaper at the Latino market by my office instead of the pet store.
I have used flash food at the Giant near me in Pennsylvania east of Lancaster. I think it really depends on which location you go to. I have 5 stores within 10 minutes of my home. Some have different price points for the veggie boxes, some only do veggie bags. The meat you need to watch the cost per pound and they do not tell you ahead of time. Once I went into the store and the current markdown was cheaper than the app.
If I haven't figured out what to have for supper..I look into my veggie drawers and see what is about to go... Tonight we are having soup with cabbage and hamburger soup with lots of other veg that has seen better days Also added lentils. Thank you for all you do...I plan on keeping my eyes open to make biscotti refurnished!!!
I'm going to use your idea of pre-making garlic toast for the freezer! I do use our 'tired' buns to make garlic toast, but making it to have in the freezer will be a fun time saver. My favorite new way of saving money on groceries, besides shopping at Aldi, is to look at food clearance in grocery stores, Ollie's, Big Lots, Walmart, and more. Today we got 20 oz. boxes of Kashi Go Rise for 2.99. What a healthy cereal for a great price!
Hi here in Calif we shop sales and loss leader we buy alot and freezer alot here in Calif everything so high so we really try to be as frugal as possible blessings to u both
We cook mostly from scratch but am happy to always learn something new from your videos. As for the app, we have no participating stores on the west coast... not deterred though since we regularly check the discount section in our market & repurpose our leftover food anyways. 😊
I always look at the store circular and buy on sale items and make meals from them. Also if I have a certain ingredient on hand and want to make sure not to waste, I’ll look up recipes using the ingredient (e.g. if I have extra sour cream, what can I make w/ it so I don’t waste it?) I am trying to stretch meals too by adding veggies to supplement or to use less meat overall (like adding veggies to meatloaf or adding more veggies than meat to a pasta dish, or doing a few meatless main dishes during the week).
Hey Emmy. I made biscotti with leftover strawberry bread 👍🏻 and while oven was hot, made several pans of seasoned pretzels in prep for the Chiefs Super Bowl Day. I’m so glad your channel is doing well - you two are real, down to earth 😁. Love your recipes and the way you acknowledge your commenters
When it comes to buying groceries, my Kroger store has areas for clearance produce, meats, and other goods. That's where I shop first. The store puts about 4 apples in a bag or 4 oranges ,etc. Those are $1/bag.The produce is marred. In that case, I use up rapidly. It gets cut up and frozen or refrigerated.
Love flash foods. I have been getting eggs, meat , produce. The eggs may be one less than a dozen but priced accordingly. They are good till middle of February.
Woo hoo! Congratulations on 40k! We take inventory every month or two and do a larger haul for groceries at Wal-Mart and Sam's. Then on a weekly basis, we shop the loss leaders. This, combined with eating plant based and homemade, keeps our budget low.
40.000!!!! I am so happy for you… But especially for the fact that so many families are able to learn and get inspired by you. What you do is so important and you’re doing it with so much love and respect. I suddenly remembered a bunch of old rye bread waste-not recipes from my grandmother when you showed the Dutch bread’saved-idea. In regards to the app. If you do not live in the USA or Canada, but in Scandinavia/northern Europe, the ‘TooGoodToGo’-app might be your alternative. A serious complaint😉 I MISS YOUR OLD BACKGROUND! I do envy you for your beautiful kitchen cabinets, but! I miss your beautiful collection of porcelain and funny little figures! Thank you for yet another great video.
Thank you for the Flash Food app recommendation. I have never heard of it until you mentioned it. I tried it today and got one box of approximately 7 pounds of yellow and orange peppers from Meijer. They were in decent shape for roasting but only one would I have cut up to eat fresh. So I roasted all of them and set aside some for homemade pizza toppings and the rest I pureed for at least two batches of roasted red pepper soup. In my area the price for 7 pounds of peppers ranges from $27 (yikes!) to $12, which is at Aldi. I'm going to continue to use this app.
We did a no spend January and will continue to eat out of our freezer, refrigerator and pantry. So this will require innovation! We are used to making all our meals at home but are trying to cut down on groceries by eating through what's already in our home.
We have a cheese and milk processing plant in a town very close by to where we live. During COVID, I stocked up on a bunch of whipping cream in shelf-stable cartons from the processing plant, thinking that we might not be able to get cream in the future months (since our dairy shelves in the grocery store were all wiped out for awhile). During the "No Spend" challenge for January, I took inventory of my pantry and decided I had to do something with all that cream. I found a recipe online that used a stand mixer to make butter from cream. I thought I would try it, and it worked awesome! It not only whipped that cream into butter, which can be frozen now, but it also produced some wonderful buttermilk as a side benefit. I loved your idea of making the herbed buns from the leftover hot dog and hamburger buns. I've done that before, but never thought to freeze them! Dah! So smart! Thank you as always for timely tips!
I'm making homemade coffee creamer out of canned coconut milk I have instead of buying half and half. Also, using the food I already have instead of buying more. I absolutely love you guys btw🤩
Hi Emmy and Paul yes a friend of mine introduced me to the flash food app. It’s wonderful. She told me she is hooked and checks it a lot during the day. She said it’s like a game to see how much she saves. The soup looked delicious 😋
I love all of your videos, but the zero food waste are my favorite. It does take some creativity and that's my weakness. I guess I'm always afraid my "creativity" won't taste very good and my guys will be looking at me like "is this all you got?" LOL! Your meals always look SO delicious! Thank you both for sharing.
I think you just have to think “are these ingredients something we would enjoy eating?” If they are then you’re nearly there! I make so many meals from leftovers - we never just eat the same meal twice because there’s so much of it. So if we have something with rice and I have leftovers, I use the rice for fried rice - but I’d only use additions that I know we’d enjoy, like onions, peas, sweetcorn, maybe some peppers, shredded chicken or pork, an egg or two, to stretch what’s already there. Leftover stew would get stretched with a few extra vegetables, maybe some more gravy to mix in, and some dumplings or a scone topping. Served with fresh veg it’s essentially a whole new meal. You don’t always need to reinvent the wheel, after all.
Hello my friends! Yummy garlic bread and veggie soup! That soup & grilled cheese is what I want NOW! Lol! Off to make some dinner now. I have some sweet Italian sausage and may make a 1 pot pasta meal. Simple, easy, and perfect for a cold winter's night. Sending ❤️ ~ C&B
I have used FlashFood app for maybe 6-8 months so far. I love it. It's hit or miss based on what they on the app but I've gotten many great deals. I just check it every week before I go grocery shopping. I was hesitant to buy the veggie/fruit boxes because I was nervous that they might be starting to go bad so I'm glad you showed what was in it and that it was still good quality! Thank you.
I really can’t imagine how we could eat cheaper. No meat. No chips. No soda No cake. We buy Goya cookies for 1.00. They are good! Bless you both. Love your vids!
Oh so happy you are almost at 40K. I think you did great on your Flashfood haul. Great fresh produce and as you said, items you use! I bet in the summer there will be great deals as well. Flashflood is available in my area but unfortunately the store I shop at is not a participating grocery store. Unfortunately I have to rely on delivery for my groceries due to being disabled so I don't get to always take advantage of some of the great grocery bargains in my area but I am so glad that you and many others are able to take advantage. That app is definitely a win-win. It is great seeing food avoid being thrown out so the retailer at least get something for the product and as a consumer you get what looks to be really nice quality produce at a bargain price. So glad you discovered that app Emmy and Paul! I hope it continues to offer you good bargain opportunities. I know how much you enjoy fresh produce! I I'm really working to eliminate the use of disposable products like paper plates, cups, paper towels, paper napkins, etc. I'm also cutting back buying disposable K-Cups for coffee. I either refill my permanent filter or I purchased for $10 a small coffee maker that makes about two mugs full of coffee. That is all I go through in a day at the most so it works great for my situation. Also buying appropriate things in bulk for my household. I'm a one-person household and I do have a small upright freezer in my kitchen in addition to the small freezer that comes with my refrigerator. I will stack up when I catch a good deal or when I am at the club stores. I don't buy a lot of items from the club stores but there are several things that I do get that are good bargains and fries well or are in a larger quantity and are non-perishable so they will last a long time and I have the space to keep them. Just watching every penny every time I grocery shop. Thanks so much for everything Emmy and Paul! And hugs to Sweet Dixie Belle!
Sadly, no store by me participates in the app, but I do look for "manager's special" and/or reduced prices for meat and to save some money. They're always within a day or two of the sell by date, so I just freeze the meat when I get home. Fantastic ideas for zero food waste. Thanks!
I shop only the loss leaders. I rotate hamburger, chicken, fish roast and steak. I have an extra freezer and I pkg everything into usable portions with my food saver. I cook from scratch using my, Dining on a dime cookbook, that has every possible recipe from scratch, even mixes.
That's a great deal! Sad to say the nearest store is 251 miles away :(. But I'll keep the app and try to remember to keep checking every so often; it's a great idea!
I had no idea what i actually had in my deep freezer. We took everything out, fed the chickens the loose spilt veges and freezer burnt bread buns. Then made a list of all the meats, veges , as well as the meals i had already made. Now we have a better idea of what we have already and are meal planning our week around this. This means we eat what we already have and only buy what we need to make up meals. We have enough for at least 4 week easy maybe 5 if i get really creative.
Goodafternoon dear Emmy and Paul, so much to learn everytime I watch you and I think it's a very smart idea to use up all and find out new ideas instead of the usual "pudding" options and such. Over here in the Netherlands we have an app and that's called too good to go and then you can get items that are almost out of date for 1/3th of the prize. You can't pick and choose and sometimes it's a bit dissapointing but often it's not and fun to try out new things but also to keep food from the landslide/out of the dumpsters. Since it's the Netherlands I'll go everywhere by bike and it's doable. Over here one kwh is about 78 cts and since the energy prizes went too the roof over here I said to my husband pick up our camping cooking stuff and lets use that for cooking. We had still lots of gasbottles and I'm still cooking on that. It was money already spend and my husband drives a truck for a compagny who dilivers gas we can change our bottles for free and it helps us out a lot! I check all the lost leaders and see that even with them on sale/cheap I'm still not paying too much because often in the supermarkets meat and such is on sale (30%off) and then it's still ok but has an expiredate for the next day. I'll buy that and use my foodsaver or immediatly cook it so it's safe to keep for a little while more. Wishing you an amazing sunday and hugs from the Netherlands xo Vleer.
Hi Brilliant video as ususal. There is a similar app in the uk called Olio I think you have to subscribe for a couple of pounds a month but then you can pick up food that would otherwise be thrown away for free. I don't use it as I can't get out but I have a freind who uses it regularly and she says it really saves money especially for fruit, veg and bread. Keep the tips flowing what may seem common sense to you someone else may never have even thought of.
Oooohhhh that app sounds amazing! I hope there are stores on Long Island that participate. Thank you to you and the subscriber that mentioned this app ❤
Thank you for sharing about the Flashfood app! The grocery store where I usually shop is a partner. I've seen the Flashfood sign on shelves there but didn't know what it was all about. We enjoy going to some Amish salvage stores that are about an hour away from us. One day I searched for salvage stores near us and the Flashfood website also came up. I didn't understand what it was about but now, thanks to you, I do! I've downloaded the app and look forward to saving more money on groceries!
I’m trying out different egg substitutes. Used my own unsweetened applesauce to substitute for an egg in oatmeal cookies. Had to double the amount of applesauce (1/2 C instead of 1/4 C per egg) because the batter was a little dry. The cookies were just a bit more crumbly than if I would have used an egg, but I would use this substitute again. I would definitely call it a win.
We pray Yeshua blesses you as much as you bless us!💕
Shabbat Shalom!
Pam your comment made my day!!! It totally made my heart smile!! Tell your daughter that is so wonderful!! One of my favorite RUclipsrs Paul and I watch is Sonya's Prep. We love to watch her Sabbath cooking! So happy you are here! Thanks so much! 😊
❤️❤️❤️
How lovely!
@@donnawitcher5445 Shabbat Shalom 💕
I told my husband that this was going to be a "stewy and soupy" winter. It's the most economical way to stretch food! If a recipe calls for 1 lb. of ground beef, I use a half pound. Lots of rice and beans are on the menu too!
that and casseroles! 😊
So true!!
Soups & stews are so delicious. Perfect year round and especially great in the winter.
So smart to do it that way!
I have been using Flash Food for quite awhile. Purchased a bag of veggies/fruit. When I went to pick it up, it had been discarded due to mold. The employee took a bag and went to the produce department and filled it with double what was in the original bag! Win/Win!
Oh that's so great to hear!
FETCH rewards app. Gives you points on every receipts you scan. 1000 points equal to $1.
Emme,
Use the back of a spoon to spread your softened butter; it won’t tear the bread ❤
I grow green, red ,yellow bellpeppers in concreate blocks. Grow 38 total plants
Core and seed and freeze.
Little makes me happier than watching how someone makes a vegetable soup! Thank you. Btw…I’m in Palm Springs…. FoodFlash has no partnerships AT ALL out here. I hope they continue to grow.
Oh so sorry!
I make French toast casserole from stale buns and rolls. Kids love it!
Great idea!
You are so creative with your food Yelena! Great job!
Butter bells work wonderful, and the butter is soft.......love mine
My Grandma used to be really frugal. She kept a gallon glass jar in her fridge to put leftover veggies and meats in. She gathered the leftovers and on Friday evening she'd make a soup. It was one of our favorite meals. The heels of the bread loaves she put in a cake pan in the oven of her gas oven to dry out. Then she'd use them as bread crumbs, croutons, and as stretchers in casseroles. She fed 5 people well, 3 meals and snacks a day.
So smart and creative!
That's wonderful! Love your no waste attitude!
OH YES!! That is wonderful! Good for you!
Carole
Brilliant idea!! That's the way to do it!
I love watching you get creative in the kitchen. Such great ideas and I live making and eating soup. THANKS
I have always made garlic bread from hamburger and hot dog buns but love the idea of making ahead and freezing! Parmesan cheese on the bread is another amazing topping!
Oh yes Mary!
You and Paul are my YTUBE best friends! Keep the videos coming and hope you never run out of ideas!
Love that so much! Thank you! 😃
Wonderful Janet!
Love Traders
A friend took us to lunch at a restaurant that served rolls. None of us ate them with our meal, so I took them home and made garlic bread using your recipe. God's timing is perfect.
So smart!
So creative! Thanks for sharing!
Other great egg replacer for baking are ground flaxseed or pectin (that you use for jams)!
After the crockpot it's our favorite appliance!
Thanks for sharing Deborah!
Don't 4get to make your own taco seasoning!!!😋😋
Hey! I tried your sugar scrub for my hands. It worked so well that I made
extra for my scruffy elbows and feet! Thanks!
Wonderful! Just be careful using it in the shower. It can make the floor slippery!
God is so good! I try to shop at different stores here in California and now going to try to share and trade with others. My fridge isn't empty, My God shall supply all my needs according to His riches and Glory❤🤗❤
Absolutely Dee!
I am making lots of home cooked meals from scratch along with home baked bread and sweets so we don't feel deprived. Tomorrow I'll be making orange cranberry scones. 😋 We will enjoy them
for breakfast this week and l'll be able to freeze some as well.
Great ideas Susan!
Wonderful Allison!
So very smart Erica!
Thanks so much for watching and sharing Nancy!
Juanita thank you for the kind comment!
I so love Fridays because I know your going to be releasing a video. I thought yesterday was Friday and imagine my disappointment when I realized it was Thursday and there was no Emmy and Paul 😅
YAY! Love that Linda!
Jessi so creative! That soup sound great!
Next wk will be your ‘must-go’ soup 😊
Go Chiefs 🏈
Low spend id still great!!
I work at a retailer that has the flash food case. It's located very close to my work station so I basically get first dibs. I can see when other workers fill the case. Its different stuff daily. I buy the cheeses and meats mostly and the veggies and fruit boxes are awsome also. It really is a neat idea.
Thank you for sharing! 😊
True...as you know though not a huge fan of the IP
Once you get used to using your instant pot, you will find it so practical. I found 9 chicken thighs for a good sale. I cooked them in the instant pot. Took the meat off the bone. I used 1/3 of the chicken for chicken spaghetti, another third in a chicken vegetable soup, and saved the last bit for a pot pie I will make this week. 3 meals with one pkg. And one time to cook the meat.
I love my instant pot!
Emmy, you and Paul would be so happy, I counted the produce in the bags and I got one extra piece of produce in each bag,for a total of six extra pieces. I never thought of doing that. Thank you so much.
YAY!!! Isn't that amazing?
Honestly , I grow at least 80% of my veggies. I'm in NW FL . We do get freezes. But I have an outbuilding that has windows and I have peppers & tomatoes going now. I harvested several lbs. of broccoli & cauliflower a month ago. I grow my own lettuce , potatoes , carrots , onions , corn. I do both inground & container. NOW is the time to get with a neighbor , friend or family & PLAN YOUR VICTORY GARDEN ! I am VERY rural so there are few grocery stores & no loss leaders. BUT , we lack for nothing !
Love that so much Kim!
I LOVE soup! I will have to make this one. I start most days with a hot bowl of brothy soup, full of veggies and a little protein. It's a great way to start the day. I shop at different stores after comparing ads, and yes! I absolutely shop the loss leaders.
Sounds great!
Also they have the best prices on organic meats, always beautiful selections.
Thanks so much! 😊
All great tips Linda! Thanks!
Thanks for taking time to get read and comment on our comments! The difference in food prices between our two countries really surprises me!
Absolutely! Thank you for watching!
I use Flashflood all the time. There are several stores on my way home from work. It's helped me save so much money.
I like to batch cook. I will cook a bag of lentils, beans, rice etc. since I cook for one I
Put 2 servings in each ziplock and freeze for when I need it.
YAY! So happy you were able to find it!
We have fried days Old corn tortillas for ages. They can be used as Tostadas, Totopos (chips), or fry them up in pieces for egg migas. So delicious!
I take a portion of my food budget and buy seeds for my garden and to start herbs for my window sill and garden. I m trying to think ahead because I don't see this economy turning around this year. I'm growing food to can, freeze and dehydrate.
I agree! So smart!
Wonderful Lynne! Thank you! 😃
Hi Emmy and Paul, have a great weekend! Thanks for the flash food info. Not eating big portions
You as well Beth! Thanks!
@Ruth Adams, I'm near Lebanon county. Hello, neighbor!
Congratulations on 40,000 subscribers!!! I found your channel 5-6 weeks ago, and I so appreciate your positive content!
Thank you so much Sarah!
If I haven't figured out what to have for supper..I look into my veggie drawers and see what is about to go... Tonight we are having soup with cabbage and hamburger soup with lots of other veg that has seen better days
Also added lentils. Thank you for all you do...I plan on keeping my eyes open to make biscotti refurnished!!!
Sounds great!
I have found some amazing deals at Ollie's and Big Lots.
So smart!!
definitely a good deal !!! you can't even get a burger and fries for $ 5.00....
Ooh that giant on lititz pike is useful for me when I'm stateside.
Hi here in Calif we shop sales and loss leader we buy alot and freezer alot
here in Calif everything so high so we really try to be as frugal as possible blessings to u
both
We cook mostly from scratch but am happy to always learn something new from your videos.
So great you do that Gretchen!
Thanks so much Holly! Can't wait for the game too!
Soup Emmy will be my lunches for next week with salad yum I will add white beans
Our Kroger puts extremely old fruit/veg in markdown bags. Most is absolutely rotten. I got burned so avoid it now. Wish my Kroger was nice like yours!
Love flash foods. I have been getting eggs, meat , produce. The eggs may be one less than a dozen but priced accordingly. They are good till middle of February.
I wish I could get eggs at our flash food!
Woo hoo! Congratulations on 40k! We take inventory every month or two and do a larger haul for groceries at Wal-Mart and Sam's. Then on a weekly basis, we shop the loss leaders. This, combined with eating plant based and homemade, keeps our budget low.
Very smart Holly!
That background will be returning soon! In winter it's kind of dark there lol!
Wonderful Donna! So happy it worked out for you!
When I have the extra buns/bread, I make croutons or French toast muffins. I like the garlic bread idea. I am going to try it.
We did a no spend January and will continue to eat out of our freezer, refrigerator and pantry. So this will require innovation! We are used to making all our meals at home but are trying to cut down on groceries by eating through what's already in our home.
I’m shopping loss leaders, plus I using more store brands verses name brands.
Great idea Sharon!
No stores in our area use Flash Food currently. Closest store is 85 miles away. Hope it comes our way. What a great idea!
I love your tips and examples Emmy and Paul! That soup looks delicious!
Thanks so much! 😊
I'm making homemade coffee creamer out of canned coconut milk I have instead of buying half and half. Also, using the food I already have instead of buying more. I absolutely love you guys btw🤩
Sounds great!
Thanks so much! 😊
Oh that sounded good Chris!! Yes, I have been craving grilled cheese lately LOL!! Hugs to you both!
I love those oranges
So good!
@@FrugalMoneySaver 🤗
I have used FlashFood app for maybe 6-8 months so far. I love it. It's hit or miss based on what they on the app but I've gotten many great deals. I just check it every week before I go grocery shopping. I was hesitant to buy the veggie/fruit boxes because I was nervous that they might be starting to go bad so I'm glad you showed what was in it and that it was still good quality! Thank you.
I will go to deli counter and ask for meat and cheese ends. I get a variety of lunch meats and cheeses for around a buck 25 a pound.
I really can’t imagine how we could eat cheaper. No meat. No chips. No soda
No cake. We buy Goya cookies for 1.00. They are good! Bless you both. Love your vids!
Thank you! 😊 God Bless you as well!
Eating from the freezer, cupboard and shopping only ftrsh fruit and veggies.
I'm making vegetable stock with my vegetable scraps. Yummy
Rosemary such a lovely comment! Thank you!
Thanks for explaining Flash Food. I've had the app for awhile but didn't understand how it worked. Maybe I'll score some deals!
Yes! That's the way to do it!! Great job!
Thank you so much for the comment! Have a wonderful week and hugs right back!
You don't have to subscribe to use olio, don't let the pop ups trick you. Xx
I tried the app and sadly there are no stores that support the app for me....I was hoping! I LOVE the garlic bread idea :)
I’ve used flash before and was happy with what I got ❤
Thank you so much for the FlashFood app suggestion! Just downloaded it and there is a store 5 minutes from me. This will save me more money!
You are so welcome!
I use FlashFood often and I love it! Have gotten some fantastic deals.
Appears to be quite a savings👏👏👏👏
You are so welcome! Glad the video was helpful!
Thanks for sharing Charlotte!
Hi🤗. I'm relaxing after taking my Niece Wedding pictures this morning at 9:00. It was 29 degrees. I'm happy you're on 😊
