You will thank Mr. Lawrence for getting that hay loader . We have 4 and we put up about 2000 square bales a year. Mr. Lawrence is just like the rest of us older farmers we all pay old equipment and repair them time after time to save money.

I am so glad I clicked on this one so early. This is what ALL churches should be doing. Helping others if and when they can. So happy to see all of the kids involved. Again, you other churches out there. Take note. This should be you also. Help one home a year if that’s all you can do but do something other than show up on Sunday. Help someone. Please. Many need it. And some not in the position this person is, but they still need help. Even if it’s just to help clean and organize their homes. Many live alone. And that’s all they need help with.

Growing up we used to cut and bale a lot of alfalfa hay in NM. Sometimes as much as 500 bales 5 times a season. Me, my two older brothers and Dad would pick it all up manually. My oldest brother got married and moved away. Then after high school I left to the Marines. To my surprise when I got home from boot camp my dad had bought one of these loaders, in similar condition. I told Dad " You know if you had bought one of these earlier I might not have gone into the military!" LOL Thanks for the memories.

Bale Loader: Pull it with the hitch to the hay field. Stand it up (hitch up) and secure it (vertically) to the side of a flatbed truck in the hay field. The uptake chain is driven by the wheels. The big loop is at the bottom facing forward and is the bale intake. The bales must be turned so the chain will engage between the wire or twine on the bales.

I have handled many a bale from a hay loader like that. It will work better if the trailer has sides on it. That is why it is tall. We used it on a F600 Ford and C60 Chevrolet trucks with 16 foot flat dumps with wooden sides. Those trucks were multiple purpose, hauling hay, silage, and cattle to the sale barn. It would work good on your all's Chevrolet flat dump truck. This was before Gooseneck trailers became a thing.

That "very old" hay loader is nothing like the really old hay loader we used to use on our farm back in the 50's. We baled small squares but before that we used the old hayloader to pick up loose hay out of windrows and the hay loader moved the loose hay with a series of alternating bars with tines up a wide incline up on to a wagon where a man stood with a pitch fork pulling the hay off the top of the incline and building his heap of loose hay on the wagon. We still used it to load pea vines on to our 3 ton farm truck that we drove to the pea vinery at the canning company. It worked good for that purpose after we went from loose hay to small square bales. There's still a few farmers around using them to harvest loose hay and, oftentimes, with draft horses.

That lifesaver is a lifesaver because it saved your life after work , because you didn’t have to fork all of the hay , high up on a trailer.
First time I saw it I asked why is there a cage behind it.
Then as i was putted into the cage I saw why .
The bails are going up the ramp , the loader goes tic after tic and the higher up it goes , the faster it will tick, it’s the spring getting more tension, and the bale is released with a FUMP sound , without the cage , the bale will fly far away.
I was only five years old , but I got the permission to go inside the cage and staple some of the bales .
Funny childhood memories comes up 😂
Love your videos keep them coming.
Three thumbs up 👍 👍 from Denmark 🇩🇰

I haven’t commented for a long time but I couldn’t resist after seeing the bale lifter, we had one of those, made by a company called “pierce” as far as I can remember used it for years ; must have been late sixties and early seventies, definitely over 50 years ago, it was a very useful tool but it had its limitations let’s say, thank goodness for round bales and big squares latterly, sitting here at the kitchen table with the lads and only the older ones even remember us doing square bales ( they are pushing forty) . I think we did a few small squares in the early to mid eighties because they were handy for calves and horses but we went big squares in 88 and I don’t think we have made any small squares since and before that we used round bales almost exclusively, actually we still make them for wrapped bales but the hay and straw is all big squares. When we were kids we would spend the whole summer, stacking, loading and unloading bales and I can even remember as a very small boy when I helped to rake and cock hay which would then be brought back to the shed with a cocklifter to be forked in and sometimes if you had a big crop they made a Rick in the back field, bet you even Lawrence isn’t old enough to remember before we had bales but I do! Around here the young lads call small squares, idiot bricks but in their time they were a massive improvement on loose hay and I suppose they are a bit labour intensive now a days, especially with how much the scale of farms has grown. Regards from Ireland

I used one of those hay loaders several years and they worked great just don’t turn hard with it on the inside.

There’s a reason things are sitting in the brush, they kinda work but they’re more work to get them to work than the work they save.
