You two are adorable together. We all love you Harriet but not enough people comment on what a great guy Mauro is. He has a lighthearted relaxed demeanor and a great laugh. 😉 You both work hard, just in different ways. I have been binging on your videos for the past month. Almost caught up. Can’t wait to see what this year brings. 😍
Good luck with all your goals, Just keep in mind that if you are pregnant, milking 2 goats, moving manure and building a new kitchen are going to have their challenges. Don't over plan or plan to overdo. Take it easy and have a great 2023. Good luck with the goats and baby planning!
I dunno... I've never had kids, but have you been watching Becky from Acre Homestead this year? She was a powerhouse despite being pregnant for the first time! But I guess it's a lottery how your body reacts. Could make no difference to what is possible, could make a lot. I guess a baby is worth the slow down :-).
@@kirstypollock6811 Yes I watch Becky but she overdid it, even though she is a superwoman and I don't think she has goats to milk every day either. Even Josh took over the chicken duties while she was pregnant.
I love the fact that you realise and relish stepping back from the expected commercial life, is a good thing. You are brave and inspire me with each video, thank you 🥰 Good luck with baby goals ,Elaine 👍
Congratulations for all the things you achieved this year, it's amazing! As a mother of a little child, I wish you luck with this big project and I would also like to warn you that babies put your life upside down in a way you can't imagine right now, so you better do all you can to improve your house before the baby arrives. I'm looking forward to see the kitchen renovation
23rd jan 2023, we have been amazed at your video`s, here we both are at 65 and 64 and wanting to do the same, although not as big, house, veg plot ,and chill - now there`s a plan - keep up the cracking work - stay safe
You all are a beautiful couple! You all have done a great job this first year on the homestead especially Harriet the place seems to be flourishing and lush good luck and much success in all your endeavors. Hope God bless you with a healthy and beautiful baby whatever the gender!! GOOD LUCK SND MUCH HAPPINESS TO YOU BOTH!!🙏🙏👍👍💐💐
Fruit tress are quite easy to prune, basically aim for the dead and diseased branches firsts, and then stand back and try to picture in your own mind the way the fruit will hang, obviously there should not be touching each other to prevent bruising, and branches from rubbing on the fruit. So aim for a good spread of the main branches first coming from the trunk (do not remove all the smaller branches of the main branches you leave on the tree) try and keep it evenly spread, some lighter pruning can be done during the growing season, and remove any bunching up of fruit which can collect debris from above. Remove any diseased leaves branches and burn. Once you have a good layout the following year is much simpler. The extent of pruning will obviously be down to how long the tree has been untouched. Good luck!!

If you can borrow some sheep (not goats) from somebody, they can be used to naturally prune fruit trees. Goats will eat too high and eat the bark, but sheep will just take the greens. It quick, effective and cheap if you have a sheep guy.
Happy New Year. You have done a great deal on your farm. Good for you. Best of luck in 2023. It’s great to see this abandoned farm being brought back to life.
Well done, what a great recap of 2022! You've gotten so much done and as the saying goes, "Rome wasn't built in a day". Enjoy the process and take it as it easy!

Happy New Year! You've done soooo much. I've watched a few of these Spain/Portugal off grid, self sustainable homestead channels this past year. And I've gotta say, you two are the ones I'm sure won't starve this winter! Your steady approach and hard work is paying off.
Thank you Patty! Haha, well we certainly have our leafy greens and pumpkin needs covered for this winter - still so much further to go with the garden though!
Happy new year Harriet and Mauro. I have been following you for a long time and love your videos so much. Harriet your uncomplicated way of showing your way of life pleases me very much. We live a bit further south in Spain than you do and it has inspired us to look for a similar piece of land too. When we have found it we will be happy to visit you to inform ourselves. I wish you good luck for 2023 and that may come what life intended ❤️🙏❤️
Happy New year to you both and will be following you with the goals (especially for the plan to have a little one) for 2023 and enjoy the amazing environment you have found yourselves. ❤
as much as the plans sound ambitious i think given how much you managed to get done from basically nothing last year shows you'll probably be able to do a lot more than you expect now you've got so much infrastructure laid down and knowledge to be putting to use. Although obviously (i'm sure i don't need to say it but) if you're planning for a baby that should be the main focus and you'd do right to step back from the workload, even then you've got a whole year ahead of you to learn and grow and see what opportunities present themselves
I admire all the goals you've set yourselves and look forward to seeing how you get on -- but that first is truly a game-changer! You're starting on a baby project! Mazel tov!

I saw a great video where the lady made a ton of cheese, sour cream, butter, yogurt etc, all in 2 hours! Yeah she had a yogurt maker and a slow cooker and a fancy mixer, but she made like a month's worth. So I think it can be fairly efficient.

Love your channel. Discovered it a few months ago after hurting my back shifting stone, so gorged myself and lived vicariously through your labour's.. Harriet you make me laugh often as I relate so well to some of your mistakes. I have loved my goats and milking, some days it seems horribly arduous but once I'm with them all is well. Thanks for sharing your story...I'm 7 years in and your story has helped to realize how much work and problem solving the process is. Often I can be self critical at not doing certain things faster or more successfully. Have a great 2023!
Aw thank you, hope your back heals soon! I appreciate the positive words about the milking, I am sure it will soon convert itself into one of my favourite farm jobs :)
Really inspiring stuff! Best of luck for 2023! Concrete floors suck, even when they're tiled they'll always feel cold. I ended up building a wooden frame set onto the concrete (with a thin cork and plastic barrier between them) and insulated the spaces between the wood with cork board (25mm thickness) then put marine plywood on top and then I'll put my final floor on that (hardwood in one part, tiles in another). When it's all done I'll lose about 6cm in height but if you have the space and the money (the cork and plywood are pricey) I'd recommend something like that. I had to chop off the bottom of my door to make space for the higher floor (it opens inward), but if you're replacing your door anyway then you could adjust for this. Just an idea! I'm so so happy I took this extra step. Feels so cosy and my place is still essentially a creepy barn. 😁
Thank you! 💚 I think we are erring more on the side of wood now as well so I appreciate the additional vote of confidence from someone's who's already done it! Tiles aren't cheap either so if we have to spend the money I think wood could be worth it. So much warmer and cosier!
Joining everyone else in wishing you all the best for the coming year. I love your channel and look forward to seeing what you do in the coming months. Regards from Australia

Have you considered induction plate for cooking, since you have your solar panels and going for off-grid self-reliance? It is a big consumer, sure, but also the most efficient way of converting electricity to cooking. Better than gas, with all the benefits of gas, too! You can expand your solar battery capacity and plan around that.
Yeah that's a really good point, it could be super useful. I'd have to check the wattage but we have friends who use one, during the sunny days. I was thinking an electric slow cooker could also be a good option.

When you mentioned about wanting to concentrate on getting your kitchen done and also get away from gas it made me think of another video that I follow on RUclips. When you mentioned about wanting to concentrate on getting your kitchen done and also get away from gas it made me think of another video that I follow on RUclips. They don’t talk in the videos but it shows them cooking and doing things all the old ways with old clay ovens and other outdoor cooking things that are not only functional but beautiful as well. The channel is called “ Villageria”. I think you will be able to get some great ideas on how to build your own ovens, etc. and their land and gardens are wonderful. Happy New Year to you both and thank you again for your videos.
Thank you, I hadn't heard of that channel but now I'm gonna check it out. Happy new year to you too 💚
