Chasing CSX MOW Train on the Clearwater Sub to St. Petersburg Yard!

Chasing a CSX Maintenance of Way train full of equipment from Belleair Siding in Clearwater to St. Petersburg Yard on Saturday evening. Got some neat shots with the good GP38-2 duo. Track improvements are starting today on the Clearwater Sub and heading north.

I have absolutely no recollection of the last time there was a night time run of anything on the Clearwater Sub.

Thanks! 4 years ago they were only running night trains on the Clearwater sub but luckily they went back to daytime operations. Was neat to catch this one at a different time of day.

Nice catch. In all the years I've driven Pinellas County going over many crossings, not once have I ever seen a train! Drew Park is the farthest I've seen anything on that line.

Thanks for sharing this. It's great to see work on this line. Do you know if rail replacement has been or will be the next step? And do you have any insight on customers on this line or any potential new ones? Seems there are only two or three south of clearwater and nothing north or east from there all the way back to Tampa. There used to be many spurs and sidings but doesn't appear to have any customers any longer.

They didn’t replace any rails just redid the ties and ballast. They have suburban propane south of Clearwater, Conrad Yelvington in Largo, and Carroll’s Building Materials in St. Pete. There’s one more tank car industry north of Clearwater then nothing until the drew spur.
