Love this movie. It came out my senior year in high school. Still a classic. There were 9 members from each gang...unarmed. So they had to "bop" their way back! 😊
One of the fascinating things about this movie was it introduces people not only to the NYC subculture of the 70’s, but it the radio industry that was WBLS. The lady DJ was a combination of two people. Vy Higginson & LaMarr Renee who pioneering radio personalities in that time period✊🏾
This is one of those few movies in my Top 50 list I didn't see in theatres, I was alive in '79 and did want to see it but I was 9 and needed an adult to take me and couldn't get one to, I was living with my grandparents at the time. Normally my dad would have taken me but he was in prison from November 1978 to March 1980 for growing weed and just before going to prison he took me to see Dawn Of The Dead at the drive-in on Halloween. We were both fans of horror and gore as well as action movies and low-brow comedies like Cheech & Chong and National Lampoon, we saw Up In Smoke and Animal House at the theatre in '78, my dad was a huge Bruce Lee fanboy and comic book collector so we also saw Game Of Death and Superman that summer. My grandpa thought those types of movies and The Warriors were a waste of time, he took me to kiddie movies, war movies, Westerns and historical dramas, I did talk him into taking me to Buck Rogers In The 25th Century in '79 and 1980's Flash Gordon because he was a fan of those serials when he was a kid and we watched them together on Sunday mornings.
The version of the film you're watching is the 2005 version of the film, where Walter Hill went back and added comic book transitions. A lot of fans aren't fan of them. Even so, I'm glad you gave this film a chance. :) 16:42 - She wasn't willing. She was what's known as a "honeypot", basically a female police officer who poses as a prostitute in order to lure men into incriminating themselves, so they can be arrested. It was a setup.
Thanks for letting people know I was wondering witch version she's watching I got a blue ray copy that doesn't have the comic book transitions i actually enjoy the comic book style
1. When this came out many of the larger cities didn't run it. They were afraid it would lead to gang violence. 2. Late 70s soundtrack. 🤩 3. My favorite character is Luther. He's f-ing nuts. 4. Skates may look cool, but would suck in a fight. 5. "Warriors, come out to play" was ad lib. The director told David Patrick Kelly to come up with something menacing, and he looked back to when he was a kid and a creepy old neighbor used to torment the kids. 6. NEVER take off your colors. If you do it's the same as not having them. 7. End it with Joe Walsh.🤩
😱 "One of their friends just 😵 ya'll!!!" Fox's sudden exit is due to disagreements with the director (and his final scene is done with a stand in😅). Thomas Waites would pop back up in John Carpenter's The Thing a few years later.
This movie came out when I was in High School and my crew of friends adopted the name "The Warriors" and to this day we refer to ourselves as the "Santa Ana Warriors".
in the sequel, Ajax is killed in prison, Swan becomes a Social Worker, Mercy dies of a drug overdose, Vermin goes into porn, Rembrandt goes into gay porn, Cochise takes over the gang, Snow becomes a back-up singer for Lionel Richie, Cowboy's whereabouts are unknown, the Candy Store Girl becomes a vigilante and the leader of the Orphans becomes a Congressman.
At the time this movie was released there were dozens of gangs, out in the public, across NY. Over time most went underground, doing their dirt from behind closed doors. Only a few continue to work in the public's eye.
"Why though?" Luther is later seen bragging about Cyrus' accident to a mysterious person on the phone and my thought has always been that Luther runs the Rogues for the PD or is an undercover cop himself (who has done too many drugs to maintain his cover 🤪)
Good reaction! Good movie choice. They filmed some of this guerrilla style, often not getting permits, sneaking around in A.M. hours, in dirty nasty little nooks of the city, getting rich gritty shots for cheap, making a much better movie than they technically could have afforded to make by following all the rules.
I'm from the Bronx New York it was gangs in the city like that for real it was before hip Hop I remember the Bronx was burnt down the city was in poverty except Manhattan the rest of the city started clicking up
I can only imagine what it is like living in the Boogie Down Bronx and having to survive, it was like a battlefield. Speaking of Manhattan I thought poverty was up there in Downtown until the World Trade Center was built, it was a picture I saw of some homeless people by the newly built towers.
@judahasante yeah it was some homeless people in Manhattan at that time still is but Manhattan wasn't going through what the other four boroughs were going through
The Wanderers is a less well known but just as good 1979 movie based on real New York gangs that were in The Bronx in 1963 and the story centers around racism and cultural diversity while the message pushes tolerance and acceptance. The Wanderers are an Italian gang with mob ties, there's also an Asian gang called The Wongs, a black gang called the Del Bombers, a skinhead gang called The Baldies and an Irish Catholic gang called The Ducky Boys. I suggested it on another channel a couple years ago and someone replied calling it "woke trash". Fun Fact: While in high school KISS guitarist Ace Frehley was a member of The Ducky Boys.
While I prefer the original cut, the version with the comic panels and Grecian intro does connect it back to the book a little more, as the main character in the book reads a comic about the Anabasis (the story in the opening) as the gang struggles to get home.
Would love to see you doing a reaction vid on The Wanderers. It's also a classic gang movie featuring the Italian gang The Wanderers in 1960s NY. You'll have a blast with this one. Promised !
I saw this film at the theater when it first came out. The comic book stuff was not in it. I loved the film as it was originally released. There was concern that it would provoke violence and when i saw it i thought what a bunch of hysterical nonsense . No way it would provoke violence.
It was an alternate New York City... a fantasy land, so to speak. Just like Walter Hill's other movie, "Streets of Fire." Yes, I know, "The Warriors" was based on a book, but it was a lot different from the book. Walter Hill made the story his!

Cult classic! The Warriors 💯💯💯💯💯
Fun, iconic movie. Great costuming.

India, you loved this movie as much as we do. It was a blast to watch it with you.

Another good one is the original Assault on Precinct 13. 1976.

This was the first R Rated movie I ever saw, way back in time.
I love the Michael Jackson’s remark at the start. It never crossed my mind that they did look like late 60s version of MJ.
The Original Version of this movie didn't have the Comic Book Strip in it.
No movie has a better vibe
Great movie

Enjoyed my time here 👍

well hello welcome back

One of my favs
India please do The Wanderers, it's another gang movie but is much more light hearted and has a super soundtrack. A real underappreciated gem.
Good thing you're watching the director's cut!
Good reaction! Good movie choice.

This was sorta like a Fight Club escape for a lot of us at the time

This version really deepens the themes and connections to the source inspiration. It's a better version of an already awesome film, in my opinion.
There is a rumor of a remake of this...could be interesting..
NBA - The Golden State Warriors come our to WARRIORRRRS ! Come out to plaaaaay...lol 😊
Check out the "spiritual sequel" Streets of Fire (1984) by the same director, Walter Hill 😊🙏🏼
I want to know how Rembrandt got in the Warriors. He is scared the whole movie.
I've seen a trailer of a remake which goes deeper into The Warriors story, but I don't think it came or even will
"What's The Matter? You Goin' Faggutt?" Classic. Good reaction.
You need to react to the original bad boys movie , not the one with will smith but the one with sean penn and esai morales.

Cult Classic movie
YT doesn't want me to say the truth 😂
What's up with your look on the title with the grin and the eyes. You look like a hitman😂😂
Let me see 😂😂😂😂😂
I always thought this movie was so stupid. Gang members on roller skates? Mimes? Horrible.
Not horrible. You just don't like it.
