Hugh and Stephen are what we call in England ‘national treasures’. Hugh Laurie it’s simply one of most gifted actors and comedians ever and one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet.

Nice man, genuinely good hearted, self checking and humble in the best possible way. No wonder we love him. We also appreciate his beautiful quirky mind, full of wacky doodle! Such a unique gift to share with others, thank you kind sir!

Brilliant in the American series House, but really loved Bertie Wooster, with Stephen Fry as Jeeves.

When she mentions Stephen Fry and then Hugh explains how he doesn't take things for granted, feel pride or vanity, it clicked. This must be where they came up with the idea in "A bit of Fry & Laurie" where Stephen interviews an F1 race winner (Hugh) if winning makes him happy.

I heard an actor say that "watching yourself act induces the same feeling as when you hear your own voice on a recording. It's horribly awful and embarrassing".

Happy to see his injection of Latin in talking about testing at 8:47 -- "Quis custodiet" shortened from "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?" -- Who will watch the watchmen?

I remember watching him having dinner in a fancy Beverly Hills restaurant with, I think, his wife. Paparazzi were gathered outside and he gave the impression he didn't notice them at all, though he must have been. It was the most expensive restaurant I'd ever been too, though I was another person's guest.

I learned the underlying lesson as a child. Mum had gone down to the shops and I had a friend around to play and we thought we'd knock something up for a snack. We knew we liked cake but we didn't know how to start the oven so we grabbed a pie pan and put it on a lit gas ring and filled it up with everything that seemed as if it would go in a cake. Except anything we didn't like eating in isolation, such as raw flour and eggs. These we scrupulously left out, in our relentless pursuit of the perfect cake.
Our attention span now being entirely used up we went back out to play and Mum got home just in time to witness the steel of the pie tin transitioning from orange to yellow heat.

The world would be a better place if presenters, when interviewing Laurie, would a) let him do more talking and b) stop trying to be funny. She does an OK job at both, but the HTT (Hugh Talking Time) should still be more - and uninterrupted.

3:36 It is less annoying to think less of yourself than others think of you than to think more of yourself than others think of you. Humility can be a hinderance if it becomes too extreme but it doesn't seem to have hindered Hugh. Ego, on the other hand, is unforgiveable. Of course it takes capability to consistently accomplish things but there is no accomplishment that can be attained without having opportunity which is beyond one's own control so real valid pride in one's self should only be attained by the knowledge that one's motivations are what one wants them to be. Don't feel bad about being humble Hugh, it's a good thing.
