I love your attention to detail on the restoration of this beautiful house. My suggestion for the joists over the lintle would be to notch the joists to match the profile of the lintle.
Great work again and so careful and precise, the beauty of doing almost everything hand to hand is you’ll know every square inch of the building and all its quirks. For the window you could notch the joist and it will be perfectly ok, the span is tiny for such a chunk of wood but the stone strength is the unknown. Alternatively you could put a trimming joist across the front of the stone and fix a trimmed joist into it. If it was me personally, I’d notch the joist and forget about it. It’ll be reet! 😂 I'd throw a beam across that doorway and keep the ceiling height flush, a lump of oak or even concrete. It’ll be interesting to see what you decide. Great progress well done 👍🏼 o
Totally another exciting video of the Antiques! Maybe I have missed the door you put on your shed? Lol cause I know you have to have one! I can’t ever say enough just love all what you bring to the video. Can’t wait until next time. Have a great weekend ❤🇺🇸
Ah, thanks so much! That really means a lot to us ☺️ haha, the shed door was here when we moved in...the only lockable shed door we have! It's "rustic" that's for sure but doing it's job! 😅♥️
Hello and greetings from Hell's Front Porch ( Palm Springs Ca). I do like your new finds, that is always fun. Michael, I'm not a Structural Engineer, but with my almost 40 years of construction experience, I see no reason you can't notch that joist to install over that lentil. With your floor sheathing on top of it and attached to each joist adjacent to it and beyond, the load will transfer and you should have no issues. JMHO. Best wishes always, Moody.
Like your phrasing, "Hell's Front Porch". As I young child, my family lived in the area, (mom worked in Palm Springs), so I understand the comment :-). Can you escape the heat for part of the day via the tramway?
@@arwenevenstar9843 we’ve been up the tram years ago so no desire to go back up there. We have A/C and just stay inside because it’s been between 116 and 124 degrees for almost 10 days straight 😑 it will cool down to below 110 starting Sunday which will be normal for us.
Lovely to hear from you, cousin! Always value your opinion and will keep that in mind ☺️ hope you do get your cooler weather soon!! Have a good weekend! ♥️
In regards to the doorway's header, (aka joist above the doorway), you could use shorter height header. And then have more of it / them, in fact the full width of the stone wall. The distance is trivial, and using more of them in parallel should add strength. Maybe even tie them into the floor joists further down the wall. This would allow you to put a slightly notched floor joist across the whole width of the door header. Tying both side's floor joists together would also help. That should give you perhaps 6 foot, 4 inch or more head room in the doorway. You can always write up some measurements and have a structural engineer review any plan. You can use the joists that are not straight, for noggins. They should be enough square lengths to fill in either mid-span or end locations for noggins. (For the un-initiated, noggins are very short pieces that go at 90 degree from the floor joists to both stabilize the joists. And have a place to nail down floor boards at the mid-span & wall sides.) Good luck.
Just a thought .. linseed oil cloths can spontaneously combust as heat is generated when they dry. Hope you are aware of this? If not then just store them in an airtight tin or soak with water and seal in a plastic bag before disposing in the rubbish ... certainly wouldn't want all your hard work to end as a Portugal fire statistic! You are making phenomenal progress ...and England won again ...just haha
Oh, wow! We didn't know this 🔥 thank you so much! You could have saved us from disaster! Haha, they did... Let's see how Sunday goes 😉 Thanks so much and have a lovely weekend! ♥️
Since im not there to see the exact situation with the beam going over the window I can’t be sure but my general thought is to not put a beam over the window. Put the beam to the side like you have the other beam to the side. Then tie those two beams to together with braces down the length of the beams.
Thanks so much 😊 really impressed with it so far! Love the colour and really easy to use. It's called Topeca Kaltech Joint. It's quite new: topeca.pt/en/product/rebetop-kaltech-joint
I admire what you do so much, I’m fascinated by your old school mentality and how much you put into it, it’s almost hypnotic, but I wish you’d use a mask in that dust, you’ll suffer in the long run if you don’t.
You are a wonderful interior designer. Congratulations. Great taste love your decoration💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Thank you!! It means so much ❤️❤️
You are doing a fantastic job. I am amazed😊 at how much progress you have made since you started👏👏👏
Thank you so much 😍
The end result will be stunning. You do beautiful thoughtful work. A joy to behold. Thank you.
Thank you so much 💛
Hi Michael concerning your signal lamp i think you can buy a single solar light mechanism so you could use it in your garden xx
Amazing! Thank you 😊 x

Thank you so much 😊 it means a lot!
You have the start of a wee museum ✨️
😅♥️
I enjoy your videos. I like the thinking you do. Such nice work. It looks as if you really enjoy this renovation. Bravo.

It's getting exciting now because the demolition part is finished, instead it is actually building something up. Hang in there Beccy. Best wishes
Exactly! 😊 It's great to be at this stage. Have a lovely weekend 💛

Amazing instructions, thank you! I shall pass these onto Michael ☺️ thanks again and have a lovely weekend!
Oh man you are good 😊
Ah, thank you 😊
If you lower the joints I suggest you also lower the floor.
I like the items you've bought on the antique market. The wooden box is my favorite thing.
Thank you so much ☺️ will bear that in mind!

Thank you so much ☺️ we love a good antique!
Err on the side of caution ;)
That's the one! 😅 I knew it didn't sound right. Thank you ☺️
Hi Guys, it's coming along really well. Any thoughts on the ready mix pointing? what it is etc. as would be interested for my own project.
Thanks so much 😊 really impressed with it so far! Love the colour and really easy to use. It's called Topeca Kaltech Joint. It's quite new: topeca.pt/en/product/rebetop-kaltech-joint

cut the wood (to match the floor level) to fit over that remaining bit of rock, which is the top of the window casing??
Thanks for the idea 😊
rebate the joist.
Thank you 😊
