Please do not make the comparison of Beyonce and Miss Buniatishvili - pop, as music, cannot compare to the sound, technique, emotion, difficulty, and breadth of piano as well as the wide range of scores she has mastered. Pop music offers light fun, rythym, and really loud electronic sounds that can hurt. Listeners of Pop like to physically move and sing along and as they do, they are very self absorbed and not so much emotionally involved with the performers. It is not sophisticated or thought provoking music, and sometimes mean or bringing thought to social issues. Pop stars are not particularly known for the depth of emotion that Miss Bunia's music and instrument inspires, that goes for all well performed classical and other genres of music played by fine musicians on their respective instruments, including vocals. .

A brilliant piano player no doubt. Sadly I also have to say a narcissist and shallow exhibitionist, more concerned with sensational imagery rather than in depth interpretation of the great classical piano works. If my assessment of Khatia sounds cruel and dismissive it is simply because I sense she is capable of so much more artistically speaking. Her amazing fluency at the keyboard is not enough in itself, she needs to apply greater intellectual rigour and insight to her many performances. She is a remarkable young woman in many ways, her command of languages, innate charm and social skills are undeniably impressive. It is her musical conceptions I frequently question.
Funny, I always found Khatia's musical conceptions the only thing more captivating than her technique. Maybe you would say I have bad judgement or taste? I'm not sure. As for narcissism, I would direct you to Exhibit A: Franz Liszt.

Indeed I attended a recital she performed at Londons Queen Elizabeth hall in 2014.This unhappy experience formed my opinion of her often rash, bullish and ill conceived playing.
It’s both- she reminds me of what Liberace had going on in a way- it’s the visual excitement as well as the talent- people waited to see him, his costumes and watched him the whole time while they listened to his theatrical playing- I feel like she is so what of this.
