WE'RE BACK! What did you think about our first new episode with a brand new concept and, of course, a brand new host? We're glad you're on this new journey with us and we hope you enjoyed our first step together in a new direction. If you missed our coverage of the Paris Peace Conference, you will just need to wait a little longer till our next episode. We will be much more diligent about our sources and sourcing from now on. You can usually find sources for certain statements on screen or in the subtitles as well as all sources used for an episode in the video description
Great to see the channel up and running again. I will have to get used to the new host but that will be a matter of time. Looking forward to see more stuff.
While I don't think Jesse is as charismatic as Indy, he has a very professional quality to him in place of it. It might be because Indy's background is as an entertainer when it comes to being in front of the camera, so their presentation is different. I think it's a great fit for the documentary style of the channel, and it also is respectful of Indy by echoing your (Flo's) previous statement of not trying to replace him. Even as a first episode, this definitely already is fulfilling the promise of quality and depth with excellent narration. Great work all around.
@@TheGreatWar I really like Jesse here, and his new videos over the past few years have been nothing but outstanding! I especially enjoy his Calvary episode. I’d like to see an episode on Canada in The Great War. the role of aircraft may be a video on the boxer rebellion
Having learnt about the sparticists and freikorps and the general state of Germany from 1919 - 1939 in school I can’t wait for this new chapter from TGW
Definitely one of the most fascinating periods in modern history - the chaos and anarchy following the Armistice. Glad to see you guys will be covering it here!
Four and a half years of war have taken a toll on Indy. He doesn't even look the same. 🤣🤣🤣 Everybody give Jesse a chance. We've all been so used to Indy. I'm excited about the future and see how the world recovers from thr Great War. 😉😉😉
That was perfect: many details I never heard before in any film documentary. Maps and photos with reference to what is told. Questions being asked. Analyses, explanations and contexts displayed and clear. No dramatizing, no reenacting scenes, no fake sounds, no distracting music, no edutainment, no propaganda. Perfect! Please continue this way!
Yay, boys are back! Greetings to Jesse Alexander! Solid first perfomance I should say, keep it up and improving! Thanks for covering demobilisation, didn't hear much about it and you presented some interesting details for me. Should I rewatch Capitaine Conan now, hmm? :D
I like that Jesse pronunce the names right!! Not the arrogant american/english way of not care about how the names should be pronounced. Excellent work Jesse!
Great job to Jesse! And I really like that you get into details about the citations (e.g. page number) and give credit to them at the end. Production is superb as ever :)
Very happy to see the channel back. Missed the regular episodes. Excited to see content from the interwar period. Always was excited to read about the aftermath and the consequences of the Great War. New host is great.
Wrote a masters course semesters paper on you guys today. I study film management. :) Thank you for the inspiration! I wish lots of luck for the new direction the channel is taking, and I will keep watching.
Excellent video, my favourite part of the video is when you start talking about demobilization. We generally do not hear about that process and its difficulty, especially on the soldier's life.
So glad your back, was skeptical about a new host. But those worries can be laid to rest, u have yet another great host. Looking forward to seeing more episodes
I'm so glad you did this. When The Great War series ended I was screaming at the screen "WHAT HAPPENS NEXT I MUST KNOW!". I'm pumped. Also, cool new intro.
Love that Canadian pronunciation! and Jesse has a great accent in German. A keeper! This is a critical historical period, including Versailles. Keep it coming. I hope we get weekly episodes, after catching up with February. And the 12 minute episodes were about the right length, although I enjoyed this one.
I first heard of the German Revolution of 1918/1919 by reading the historic comic Berlin: City Of Stones. I haven't poked my head into that book in a long time, but what this video shows compared to what I remember from reading Berlin: City Of Stones is astonishing.
I love that you are keeping this important history going. I plan on being here for everyone. Maybe you could keep the ten minute video format with more numerous uploadings?
The greatest series on The Great War is at it again. Keep up the great work guys. Jesse you have some big shoes to fill, but I'm positive you can do a great job and do Indy proud. I like the new into and I can't wait for the next video. P.S. Will you guys be doing a review of Peter Jackson's They Shall Not Grow Old. I watched the documentary and would like to now your thoughts.
Thank you, Jesse! Superb presentation of events which are often not covered at all in American schools. Still, however they met their ends, I am not shedding any tears for the deaths of Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg.
Great episode , so much information . Could have been two episodes. Would have liked to have an episode dealing with the returnings soldiers and POWs and how they were treated in each country. Thanks for the great work.

Yes, demobilisation took a relatively long time. My grandfather - a Canadian artilleryman - who served in France 🇫🇷 and Belgium 🇧🇪 from mid 1915 until November 1918 was only demobilised in Canada in March of 1920! That's a long time after the armistice to get back to his family. He was relatively lucky, however, because by the time he came back to Canada there were some opportunities open that saw him - as a returning war veteran and amputee - able to land a job with Canadian federal civil service... something that would become extremely helpful once the great depression hit. He was never, after that, without a solid paycheck so his family (and my father + all his siblings) had a very comfortable great depression... unlike so many others.
Almost perfect, he got "Ebert" right the first time he said it but mispronounced the first vowel the next few times he said it. Everything else was spot on IMO.
@Dr. Plagueman I speak German and know the language very well. Do you? Obviously not. Pronouncing a language well shows ability and respect for the language. Then again, when did an American ever respect any language... Of course, your analysis and conclusion are BRILLIANT. Have you thought of writing a book on the subject? University language departments would be thrilled to have new and trailblazing information such as yours. Not to mention Berlitz, for example
