    You seem to be octane fuel conscious, as for myself, I use 87 - 93 non-ethanol fuel in my bike. I do tend to get better mileage when I use non-ethanol fuel, compared to using ethanol fuel. I tend to also get better performance with the higher octane, but at a cost of mileage.
    Long story short, non-ethanol 87 octane is what my bike is happy with.
    Take care Ryan, ride safe.

      Yeah, almost all CA fuel has ethanol. When traveling, I look forward to finding 93. My bike runs better and gets better gas mileage with it. For me, I would not feel comfortable running 87 octane. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but I’m not that mechanically inclined either. Lol. Thanks for watching and be safe. 🤙🏻

      @@FullThrottleHOG The Flying J along I-40 in NM, exit 39, has non-ethanol 87 octane. I imagine the other octanes are the same. The refinery they get it from is just north of the truck stop and is also on an Indian reservation. I've gone from there to Santa Monica on a tank of 87 octane a couple of times. I haven't had the opportunity to take my bike through there.

      @@FullThrottleHOGwe are lucky up here in the Northeast most places have 93 unless you get into some of real rural areas. Most everything does have ethanol in it unless you go busy boat areas but then it's usually much more expensive. I'm riding my 2016 road glide with a 103" that has been bumped to a 110" with cams, full exhaust, intake and tune and if I'm running less than 93 and its warm out I'll get pinging like you I won't go less than 91 in the bike unless there was just no other choice it doesn't like it. Keeping some octane boost handy with you can be helpful. = love the videos you should come to New England and do some riding and shoots so many great spots.

    I stay out of Valero stations as much as possible. My experience has always been bad fuel no matter the octane. Glad you got your hands on some fruit/potassium for the cramps. I found that buying a box of EmergenC (raspberry flavor) $14.99 at the grocery store, I throw a few of those packs in my bag, tear open one packet of EmergenC pour into my bottled water, shake it and drink thru the bottle, enough electrolytes in that one packet, cramps no longer exists. And my water tastes pretty good too.

    Better watch New Mexico, I left Roswell last spring and thought I’ve got enough gas to get to a better station. I was wrong , but a nice lady brought me two gallons of gas for $80.

    Keep in mind that higher altitudes do not require as high of an octane rating. 90 octane in NM is similar to 91 octane in lower altitudes. But I agree, I don't like putting in 90 octane.

    • @FullThrottleHOG
      @FullThrottleHOG  Год назад +1

      Interesting. But it’s less than 4,000 feet ASL? Either way, I’ll do my best to do 91 and above.

    • @itskyb
      @itskyb Год назад

      I'm not sure of the exact cutoff of altitude for when they switch between 90/91. I grew up in Colorado and the max you would have for premium is 91. Regular is 85.

    That part of west Texas isn't the most scenic part of the state for sure. If you haven't been down to Big Bend, you should one day. But we're happy to have Full Throttle Hog in the great state of Texas! Looks like a great trip, ride safe brother 👍

  • @FFL-vg9ro

    Most of NM is around 5,000 ft elevation. The air is much thinner than your typical CA sea level elevation. So with the much thinner air at 5,000 ft, your effective cylinder compression pressure, and therefore combustion pressure is way lower, and you don’t need the high octane fuel to prevent knocking or pinging. 93 octane in NM would be a waste of money - unless you are running a turbo. Rule of thumb - you lose 3% horsepower for every 1,000 foot increase in elevation over sea level. So at 5,000 ft in NM, you are down 15%.

    Great video, a trip i was on in Alabama earlier this year i pumped some bad gas at this small gas station up in the Mt's ,and the bike stalled out for days after that mistake. Lol, And i was surprised to not find 93 out there in some areas, having a 6 gallon tank lessons the worries though✌️stay safe.
