Helmsson I wouldn’t call them the most consistent however... not saying LSU is either, just that Alabama has never been consistent with football, no matter how good they seem to be
@writeawaygirl1 Y'all? I am a Black 80's child, and a Cameo fan. I remember when this came out. I referred to it as a "minor hit" because it never cracked the R&B Top 20, where the had many more songs that charted better. However, HBCU and high school bands gave it a perpetual life of it's own.
I marched in a white band in high school and an HBCU band in college and it just so happens LSU is my fav. SEC team. But i have heard sooo many different arrangements of "NECK" and trust when I say they sound damn good. Plus this was a warm up, if u hear them play this in the stands it goes super hard. GEAUX TIGERS!!!
I've marched on a HBCU band. I've listened to various arrangements of Neck. LSU by has one of the better arrangements I've heard. Like Trey Day said, most HBCU bands are percussion based with songs like this, there's no focus on the musical aspect of the song. I've heard LSU play this song numerous times, this clip doesn't compare to the better clips that I've seen, or even heard watching an LSU game on TV. No offense to anyone, but a lot of HBCU fans will almost always never agree or like any PWI's arrangement to any song that are known to be played by HBCU bands.
It's the big guy with the bandana ;) He took last year's entire National Championship game (show, down cheers, stand songs, etc) up a whole octave. I was right there next to him haha
@DagamonEx Every band in Louisiana plays this. St. Michaels plays this, i'm the only tuba player there and this is one of my favorite songs. i also plan on being in this band in 2 years :]
bet yall wont have a botb with Gram or SU ....#ijs but s/o to the one trumpet real enough to scream n cut through the whole band btones/ euphoniums (not sure wat yall use) could take their part up tho
You see, in order to play balanced and with good sound and tone, you need to play together as a section and not stick out or cut through everyone else. That’s how a band sounds bad, like southern

Good. The song isn’t supposed to be a highspeed song with no articulation. Neck is supposed to be a slower, heavy, hype up tune. Albeit, this is nowhere near there best playing of the song. But even this is better that the HBCU’s molded and unarticulated version of the song
That’s a little racist if they get a C just for being white when an HBCU would sound worse and get an A. But it’s ok because nobody’s caring about your opinion and if they did, well they’d still be passing their classes

"Talking out the side of your neck" - Cameo. Early 80's. It was a minor hit for Cameo, but it became a cult classic with HBCU marching bands.

And BTW, LSU sounds AMAZING playing "Neck" here.
Best arrangement of neck is north Carolina a&t
I love the intro bit. Like the pickups. It’s so nasty.
Martist Jackson this is FACTS! We (LSU) have the best rendention of this song

The fact that some people don’t know the lyrics to the song they just know the beat

isn't that Phil? lol
that one screamer!!!
Stephenson High School of Stone Mountain, GA had the best arrangement to date
@WuzzzupppBabiii The reason they sound like they got "Sound" Is because they have a rough estimation of around 150-200 band members...
where can I find the trumpet part of this song???PLEASE HELP??

An HBCU band is not as skilled as a band from any University in the SEC tbh
