- Is Sudan the most unfortunate country in the world? The ongoing violence is only the latest episode of conflict in the country’s vicious history. And its roots lie in Darfur, a brutal chapter whose scars are yet to heal. In episode 1216 of #CutTheClutter, Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta talks about the fresh conflict in Sudan, and the two Generals at the heart of it all.

to correct you sudan is not small country it is the 3rd largest country in africa
And Why is it a forever war?
@@nasibyare5042 He never said that it was a small country
Thank you for covering this terrible civil war which has caused a humanitarian crisis and suffering to people in Sudan. Hope that world leaders intervene.
It's about US interest, they warned about consequences.
Last September US warned Sudan, they said Sudan are a sovereign country, and can freely choose friends.
But not without consequences, if Sudan allowed naval base in Sudan, it would expect to have consequences.
Remember sovereign country doesn't matter as long US keep using their license to what ever they wanted if US see economical benefits in a country.
Thanks for this episode, I appreciate it wholesomely.
I have worked in Sudan in short assignment of 40 days and hence in a way connected with Sudan, found the sudanese very warm people.
Must acknowledge only Print has given good coverage to the Sudan, Main Stream Media obvisouly busy in their TRP ratings
I think that's probably the best CTC in a literal sense as all we have been told is that the "two generals fell out and are fighting for dominance" and nobody bothered to cut the clutter (pun intended). Kudos to SG sir and Print team
Absolutely brilliant. I followed you every step of the way, and because of that, I now grasp fully the history of the situation in Sudan. Well done sir. You are a natural teacher!
Thank you so much for this video, sir, and the entire Print team. I am African (Nigerian) and I always look forward to your indepth and objective videos and coverage of global news and geopolitics, especially compared to biased western media.
It’s great to see a fellow Nigerian on The Print’s comment section. Like you, I’m a fan of Mr. Shekar Gupta’s intriguing take on global happenings.
I have been avoiding reading this news since last 2 days waiting for a CTC on it. Thanks a lot. Hope the crisis ends soon and with minimal human loss and suffering.
I have served in Khartoum from 2010 beginning to mid 2011 in UN. I have seen those militiamen nearby UN HQs in Khartoum residing in a campus. Must say, a great spade work by Shekhar Gupta and presented by him in a very interesting way.
Thank you, Vishal, I'm glad you enjoyed this episode. Do keep watching and writing in...best wishes, Shekhar
Earlier it was Muslim Sudanese vs others now it's between themselves
😂😂
They really terrorised black communities and other minority groups
It's their time to taste their own medicine.
Where there is Peacefull Community there is no Peace ☮️ only pieces
Peacefull Community always want to fight with other's when they get their portion they fight in themselves and this goes on and on only solution to stop this nuisance is to destroy peacefull community into pieces .
You did an excellent job giving overview Sudan’s history and the different players involved in the current war
Sudan is a nation in perpetual war mode !! Utterly tragic .
I pray for the safety of our substantial Indian community in dangerous Khartoum …🙏
pray for all of them not just your own kind
@@bluebellbeatnik4945 I shall leave that to the ones of yours ….
Do you Understand ? Nutter
@@bluebellbeatnik4945it's so disconcerting to see how people are so tribalistic. I hope best for the Sudan and people living there, hope peace, prosperity with democracy prevails there.
Peace keeping force went in Jan 2006 and not 2009 as mentioned. I was part of it. Beautiful indepth coverage. Thanks
Hi Shekhar sir, good to see your show "Cut the Clutter" regularly. It helped mea lot to know the exact reasons why the war in Sudan started.
Thanks you sir for bringing such videos. They are mind opening as such things are been told neither on the News channels nor covered in the newspaper till now.👍
Sherkarji, US Think Tank CSIS released a new report titled "Accelerate: 175 - A Plan for Targeted Renewable Energy Cooperation with Key Indian States" and the Power Ministry also released it's annual Integrated Ratings of Power Sector in India. It will be definitely worth looking into both those reports for a future CTC. I will send you both reports.
How can download from google ???
@@maniaphobia4719 I emailed them, I hope they make it into a CTC and attach it to the description.
Can you post both reports here? Perhaps we can also read
@@elsoai I can't post links. RUclips blocks them and The power Min report is 65 Mb. It's pretty extensive, I haven't finished going through it.
There's a reason why I'm asking CtC to cover it
Thank you, my friend. You’ve directed us to very important reports. Our teams will study them closely and draw some wisdom and discussion points out of them. Sharp and aware readers like you are the real strength of ThePrint...warm best wishes, Shekhar
This was a very interesting and fact-filled, in-depth look at the current fighting in Sudan. I have not lived in Sudan but rather I have lived over 30 years in neighboring Chad with much of that time spent living with Arabs and having married an Arab woman, the grand-daughter of a sheikh whose people also have a presence in Sudan.
So I look at this fighting not so much as a conflict of two generals using their loyal forces but rather as a conflict between the Arab elites from the Nile and some of the marginalized Arab tribes who were used by the elites to help fight their wars first with the South and later with the non-Arab Darfur rebellions. Note that Hamdan's tribe, the Rizeigat, were quite involved in fighting and carnage just across the border in the South near the oilfields, almost like a forerunner of the Janjaweed, as well as the terrorizing in Darfur. So the Janjaweed of Darfur, having morphed into the RSF and having fought in Yemen, are probably tired of being treated as the underlings of the Nile Arab elites and are now looking to turn the tables and take power. I am pretty sure that there would be fighters in the RSF with this mentality.
For there to be a better future for Sudan, neither general can be the solution, just as the solution is neither for the Arab elites to continue their dominance or for some marginalized Arab tribes to take power. Theoretically, it would seem that a power-sharing system like that of Lebanon is needed with maybe the Nuba or Darfurians or others sharing power with the marginalized Arab tribes and those Arabs from the Nile. There could be power sharing in a civilian elected government alongside some kind of power sharing in the Sudanese military. If there is not wider power sharing in the military, there probably will never be stability in Sudan.
Very well explained.
Kudos.
Excellent Analysis Shekhar Sir. So easy to understand.
Gen. Dagalo is considered one of the richest men in Sudan, thanks to a range of businesses, including gold mining and hiring out his RSF troops to fight in other regional conflicts, such as in Yemen and Libya
Best and precise analysis so far.
A BRILLIANT PRESENTATION IN ABOUT 20MINUTES.
WELL DONE. WAS HOPING THE ''CLASS'' TO CARRY ON FOR MORE TWO HOURS!!!
Thanks so much for this brilliant analysis. These two rogue generals should be taken out of the way. May God save Sudan
Shekharji, your narration of international issues makes it more interesting.
Excellent background analysis of the long-suffering Sudanese state. I certainly learned a great deal. Thanks.
One minor comment: I am sure many of the viewers like me are not familiar with terms such as 'lak' or 'kroor'. Either avoid using such terms, or give the standard international equivalent.
Fully agree with your remarks about croores and lakhs.
100K=1Lakh
10M=1Crore
If memory serves, the original Darfur genocide mostly involved "non-Arab Muslim Sudanese being murdered/ ejected from their traditional small farm holdings and being replaced by ethnic Arab Muslim Sudanese whose large landholdings elsewhere had been somewhat destroyed by record drought.
The south was always more Christian and there was definitely a religious element to the conflict in addition to an ethnic one. Sudan is not the only country that has this north vs south divide. Nigeria also has more Muslims in the north and Christians in the south.
@@JohnSmith-vn8dm But religion is also used by elites as an excuse to do what they want, so the question of religion always has some ambiguity. First, try to fathom the character of the instigators of these conflicts, look well at the leaders, and then see if they deal honestly with the underlying tensions among the populations, and how much they are about culture rather than just religion.
@@JohnSmith-vn8dm nigerians muslim boko haram destory biafran christian exteremist and christian convert to islam.
@@JohnSmith-vn8dm the conflict in Darfur ≠ the conflict with the South
Tried to find the best explanation on many youtube channels including Al Jazeera but Mr. Gupta explained it all from the right corner of Sudan, Darfur.
Thank you very much for going in depths on this subject.
Thank you for explaining this.🙏
This episode is nothing less like a bollywood movie
Gud job SG sir...
Recently Military in many countries are involve in Business Including Bangladesh, Egypt, Sudan , you name it . Military is Modern day's Oligarch they control much of the economy in their country legally. I hope you will make a show about Military Oligarchy in 3rd world countries.

Very well explained, thanks
The war of the two generals.Thank you for the video.
Very well put sir
Thanks for explaining very nicely
Excellent piece
Brilliant explanation
Very good explanation sir,you dug deep into the complex history of Sudan and presented the scenarios that have led to this crisis. It’s why I don’t follow Western media as they don’t like digging into History for that may expose their invisible hand in previous crises. Many people who need to know root causes of this War need to watch this video as it presents the scenarios in a balanced way without pushing ulterior agendas.
Well explained as always . There is a rather strong thinking that the reasons are Geopolitical being on the red sea and mining interests of outside powers .
Maybe there is a need for another episode from Sheker ji.
जहाँ ईस्लाम है वहाँ शांती नहि हो सकती.

Good analysis
Always listen to this man.

Thank you, my friend. And thank you also for your support and encouragement...best wishes, Shekhar
Can someone explain to me how a colonel can seize power ? like it is understandable if some influential general seizes it
Generals become desk bound and get cut off and alienated from troops.
Colonels are in direct command of troops and live and serve with them.
So, one fine day, Colonel decides to march, grabs the General and coerces him to abdicate.
Love from Jammu and Kashmir
Africa needs peace...👍👍👍👍👍👍
It was basically a dispute(war) between Christian South and a Muslim North.
At first it was war between Arab elites in the north and warlords in the south, with the Nuba and SPLA right smack in the middle of it, and after southern independants the southern warlords are fighting each other. And the Arab elites use local Arab ethnic group to do much of their work both against the south at the site of the oilfields and then in Darfur... yes, well, and then you get the Janjaweed and this Hamdan.
How much Christianity and Islam had to do with it is a big question, not a simple issue at all. In Darfur, it is Muslim against Muslim. So, it obscures the issues if you try to simplify.
Very neutral and balanced outline 😂
Even after partition, Sudan got no chill
Islamic countries dont easily find peace.
North Sudan is a poor Islamic region , it will never get chill .....
@@saurabhsingh5263 they are not poor they are brainwashed idiots islam was designed in a way to make people compliant so masses not all turn out idiotd sudan has quiet a wealth but criminals will always rule over idiots.
Sudan had some sense of governance under British officer Col.Charles Gordon. Sudan and its history is incomplete without discussing Gordon.
I think he was also that officer who got killed during the Mahdist uprising in the 1880's.
👍. Please correct sound issues.
Dear SG, I suggest CTC on UN peacekeeping missions with special reference to India.
Absolutely unfortunate place on the face of Earth !
Where ever the convert muz***s are there, it's a living hell there.
At times audio gets muffled, kindly check the same prior to uploading. Also, please work around something so that the intensity and clarity of audio is not fluctuating.
I saw a report last that week by a Canadian Sudanese and he said that one of the generals was on his way to secure the gold mines in "Darfur ". Is this why so much fighting ??
I understand......Our nebour is owned by one army....and Sudan is owned by two armies.....
The best solution is for the armies to stop fighting and disobey the evil generals of both sides. Resign from the armies. We pray for the best of the Muslims in Sudan
Just like india and pakistan fighting since independence, sudan’s generals also like to fight.
Beautiful kurta shekhar ji
Sir kindly speak on France problem
Earlier it was between Christian and Muslim. Now it is between Muslim and Muslim and both are Sunni. Where has Umma gone?
Basically Burhan Testing Now His Own Medicine 🤣🤣
A typical masala Indian movie story line...is what this fight is about
Hemedetti staged a somewhat a rebellion in Darfur that forced Bashiir to make him General and legitimize him from a outlaw man working for the Gov to general working for the Gov with extra benefits like controlling Gold mines.
So with all that being a general and the gold mines revenue, Hamedetti, was able to personally finance any war in Sudan
👍
Union Public Shekhar Commission (UPSC)
What would or will be the solution?
