Because the lions can tear the roofs open. I've volunteered with a big cat rescue here in the states and their power has always impressed me. I've seen a 550 lb male lean on a chain link fence and bend it over, metal poles and all. This told me he could get out at any time, if properly motivated. The same goes for the thin metal of a car. it's not much of an obstacle if they're mad enough. The best defense isn't a roof, it's stay far away and never let them get close in the first place.
I suspect the young lion chasing the vehicle was actually isolated and scared, even confused. It didn't seem to be hunting them somehow, just chasing after a big moving object, rather than being alone. They took the right precaution though. No need to take chances with one of the world's great carnivores.
Young male lion means highly likely he's been kicked off the pride by the King (the dad). So, the likelihood that he hasn't eaten in days & is starving because the mom isn't around anymore is high. So, though he may be young, dumb & unskilled, he'll still try anything to get a meal
I've had the opportunity to have a lion roar at me at about 1m on the other side of a fence...all I can say is it sounds absolutely terrifying , exactly like thunder your whole body feels fear

I love Lions and all Cats and have been reading about them and watching many clips, but I would never desire to go on a safari on foot. Study “The Lions of Tsavo.” Humans have always been part of the food chain for big cats. Once a big cat tastes human blood & flesh they start hunting humans. Ignorant humans offer themselves up as easy meals when they venture into lion country.

Lion populations are in decline due to habitat loss. The only way to preserve habitat for them, is to make their habitat econmically viable. If it pays, it stays. Hunting and eco-tourism, such as walking safaris, provide the income to enable the preservation of these habitats.

I used to live in Zimbabwe and South Africa. As a kid, I just used to walk through the bush and thought nothing of it. I would have been aged from 6 up to 13 doing this. Me and my mates out for a laugh without a care in the world. I now live in Calgary and have seen bears, cougars, bob cats, coyotes and a wolf. Never bothered me. Stay calm, keep your distance and give them space and all will be fine. A bear by the way, makes a lion look like a kitten.

Sensationalist. I know of the one (was watching when it happened on WildEarth live safari on YT) where the naturalist gets out of his car to look at footprints. He is very experienced and did not drive off hastily as mentioned but as you see in the footage he did back slowly up to the car. Also as you see the lions were afraid of him and some were running away.I have also seen many situations where lions walk around the car and are just curious and then tend to walk away. No hysteria. Videos like this demonise the animals and that is unfair.

I used to live in Zimbabwe and South Africa. As a kid, I just used to walk through the bush and thought nothing of it. I would have been aged from 6 up to 13 doing this. Me and my mates out for a laugh without a care in the world. I now live in Calgary and have seen bears, cougars, bob cats, coyotes and a wolf. Never bothered me. Stay calm, keep your distance and give them space and all will be fine. A bear by the way, makes a lion look like a kitten.
A bear makes any big cat look small but only if ur talking about grizzly bears, kodiak bears and polar bears.
I love the idea of a stressed tour guide, like a cop with a body cam "Turn the camera off..."
Also how the hell are people defending the idea of shooting something that wants to kill you when youre leaving.

number 3 when he is just getting out looking for lion footprints for the camera and runs into a whole pride of lions. OMG I think the lions realized a HUMAN was approaching and startled them more them him of them from their reaction lol. lucky they didn't just start running at him wow, what a close call.
Sensationalist. I know of the one (was watching when it happened on WildEarth live safari on YT) where the naturalist gets out of his car to look at footprints. He is very experienced and did not drive off hastily as mentioned but as you see in the footage he did back slowly up to the car. Also as you see the lions were afraid of him and some were running away.I have also seen many situations where lions walk around the car and are just curious and then tend to walk away. No hysteria. Videos like this demonise the animals and that is unfair.
Hmm for real there are some good lions out there in the aftican safari's who live a peaceful life with their family on the values of Buddha.
