      Legit. Even when Garrett's game isn't good, his swing is so buttery and pleasing to watch. Even if the finer details aren't sorted out yet. Guys like Tiger and Rory have similarly buttery swings and pleasing to watch. Freddy couples, Louis Oostheisen. Etc. So fun to watch and seeing Garrett improve is awesome.

    Theory: when those guys from Florida gave you the tip of raising your club and having more separation from your body at the top of your swing, you ended up bringing it straight up and not up and back to get the depth. Which gave you where you are now with being so upright and over the line at the top. It already looks better though. It looks like the club is still wrapping around you a lot at the top, but your hands are definitely further back and you have the club head speed to pull it through quickly and still keep it shallow. Loving the progress. Looking forward to more updates!

      @jonathangreen6345 3 года назад +5

      That’s what i was thinking. They told him to get more trail arm depth and Garrett separated his elbows too much which brought the club across the line. Just an overcompensation

    For a quick diagnosis of your ball flight when you're on the course, just remember that the line the ball starts on is 100% controlled by the face of the club. Wherever it is pointing at impact is the start line for your ball.
    The spin is the difference between your swing path and your face angle. If you swing 2* right and your face is 2* open, the difference is 0* and you will hit a ball perfectly straight along the start line (which is where the face was pointing). If you're swinging 2* right and have the face perfectly square to the target line, the difference is 2* and it will start down the target line and draw to the left. This might be what you're experiencing as over draw. Your face is actually too closed to your swing path.
    For a push draw, you need the face to be open relative to the target line to start right, but closed relative to your swing path to draw left.
    EDIT: This is assuming a flat lie/swing. If your club is toe up or down at impact, the loft will be pointing off the target line. So a square face and 0* swing path with a toe up strike will point the loft left and affect the start line.

      Fantastic explanation, I feel like there are so many misconceptions about hitting draws/fades that could be solved by that one sentence: "The spin is the difference between your swing path and your face angle."

    If you start seeing the fade (that you’re not trying hit) just remember to turn a bit more on the back swing to give the room to come from the inside.

  • @adamschmitt3993
    @adamschmitt3993 3 года назад

    the easiest way to think of it: the start line of the ball is based on the path. The curvature of the ball flight is based on the club face in relation to your path. So essentially, if the club face is square to the target on every swing, the ball will naturally curve back to the target based on the direction on the path. If it is an out to in swing with an open face to the path, the ball will cut. If it is an in to out swing with a closed face to the path, the ball will draw. Based on the swings i saw in this range session, you are producing a nice in to out swing which will create your desired "push draw" ball flight. But one tip i have is to give yourself room by stepping back from the ball slightly. the more room you give yourself, the less you will get cuffed at impact and the more consistent results you will see. It will be a slight learning curve finding the bottom of the swing since you will be moving further from the ball. But you play/practice enough and have more than enough hand-eye coordination that you can find the optimal impact zone in 30 minutes. Hope this helps you or anyone else reading!

    Garrett there is a drill u can do and it is where u put a ball on the top right and bottom left of the ball u are hitting and it helps to come inside and not so steep.👍

  • @CosmicApe
    @CosmicApe 3 года назад

    A tip for hitting from the inside, try to hold your back to the target for a fraction longer in your downswing. Naturally, when we want to hit the ball "hard" we tend to do it with our chest/torso/shoulders. We spin open a fraction too soon which brings the arms and club out because your left shoulder pulls your left arm with it. If you hold your shoulders closed for a fraction longer while you're making your downswing transition and weight shift, you'll naturally bring your arms and club down inside slightly more where you can then turn and hit it hard.

    Had the same issue myself of coming over the top. Am a good player but wanted to be more consistent. I worked with a top teacher in Michigan and he had me run a crazy drill to ensure I was hitting from the inside: Take out an 8 iron, align the ball with your right foot as opposed to the middle of your stance. At address the club should be severely closed (looks like a 4 iron degree instead of an 8 iron degree at this point). He then told me to keep swinging until I hit a pure draw. I topped the first 3. If u set this up, you'll see why. Spent hours hitting this drill and took it to the course. I played my worst round in years as most do after a swing change. However I stuck with it and within a few weeks, I finally stopped thinking about my swing and just started hitting pure shots. To be a better player this change is a must. Good luck! Wishing you better swings and scores

    The swing is look really, really good. I think on those ones you flushed with the 4i, you go back and look at them, you are getting separation between your hips and shoulders in your downswing and that's letting your hips start clearing with your back to the target just for a split second longer. When you get that separation, your shoulders are square to the target or slightly closed, and that's what is letting you get the in to out path. Pretty much every shot you overcooked left from is just looking like your hips and shoulders are starting to move at the same time in the downswing. Get that separation just a touch, feel like your back is to the target while your hips start to unwind, it's going to be money every time. Justin Rose always seems to practice that back to the target feeling in his preshot routine. Love video's like this, gives me ideas how to practice better on the range

    My whole life I've struggled with a slice. I spent all of summer working on my swing, trying to improve compression and hit a draw. The best I could manage by the end of fall was a high, spinny fade. My swing was loads better than when I started, my swing speed was faster, my stability was more consistent, and I could play it, I just was never happy with my shot shape. I couldn't get my club path to shallow out, no matter how hard I tried, or how many times I worked at the range. I watched your video of getting coached, and tried to implement the same thing into my swing at the range today. I hadn't touched a club since like the beginning of November. I just focused on having my backswing finish shallow like you were in your video, and swinging more in to out; first shot I hit a snap hook that moved like 70 yards left to right (I'm a lefty). I hit about 110 balls and I think 3 faded, the rest were a big draw or a massive hook. Never hit shots like this in my life. I was trying to hit more steep by the end haha and those shots ended up being tight draws right at my target. And I was hitting every club about 20 yards further than usual, in the WINTER, compared to SUMMER. Sorry this is an essay but I just wanted to let you know that you taking the game more seriously is helping us out with our game too! Appreciate you sharing your love for the game and your growth with us, keep going strong!!

    Just a bit of advice from my own practice... Oftentimes, shallowing out and still getting through the ball with the face square can be related to your initial turn, just before initiating the downswing. I noticed that Chris really tried to help you feel a slightly deeper turn while taking the club back as a way of naturally coming from the inside. I know it's more effort to do that but maybe that's something you might not be doing as consistently in this video. So glad to see you taking everything a bit more seriously. Keep it up!

    I noticed with your right thumb it is more on the side of the club all throughout your swing, putting that on the top and getting your left hand to where you can always see two knuckles in your setup will help you get your clubface more square at impact. Great Work!
    Edit: I'm not sure if you have your left hand to where you're two knuckles are being able to be seen but if not then definitely just try it out, I'm going through almost the same swing change as you and I got my left hand just a little stronger and it's definitely squaring my club up more at impact.

    That 13:00 in miss, which starts right and goes right. You are coming from the inside (path in to out) with the clubface open to the path - starts right turns right. That was a combo of new path and old plane (you are changing both, flatter plane and more in-to-in path). It's also a symptom of leading with the handle too much, which is not great in a flatter swing path (it is why you were able to hit that trappy low fade with the upright swing before), the release pattern is a little different than it is on an upright swing.

    Always enjoyed your channels. Ever since you guys hooked up with Mile Highdriver long drive champ there's been a new energy. Everybody's working out, working on their game. more competitive and the level of golf has gone up. Looks like you stop rotating your hips and shoulders during the backswing and that causes you to lift your arms and you get above your shoulder plane. that can get you a little steep or pulling down from the top. In transition your pelvis gets underneath you and you need to stand up a little bit and stall your rotation to hit the ball. You look a little closed out at impact. That you're such a rock star of a ball striker is a testament to your athletic ability and hand eye coordination. I think if you iron out the back swing changes you're tryin to make, everything else falls in place an your tee shots will be waving bye bye to Micah's as they fly 20 yards past his. The only guy you want ne able to outdrive is Pile Harddriver. If Coumo's boys and DeChambeau can't fix you, nobody can. Hope you and the boys all shoot your career best rounds in 2021. Awesome mulligan video with Bubbie.

    You’re getting there👍. A tip to get more shallow… Practice swinging the club like a baseball bat… your latest Instagram post shows you swinging the club more like a baseball bat and choking down on the club ironically. Also try hitting the momentous power hitter weighted driver… It forces you to get flat and produce a more simple swing while training the fast twitch fibers in your forearms (where 50% of clubhead speed comes from)

    The swing is looking prime! I love to see this! What you are trying to fix is exactly what I need to fix so this is so helpful!! Keep it up

  • @illrich

    The right way to get shallow is to make sure you execute the downswing with your hips first. If you start turning your hips in first you'll notice your right shoulder goes down shallowing out the club hardcore. Which took me a while to understand because it seems strange that sequencing would have the biggest impact on the downswing plane. Once you fire the hips, then shoulders, then hands, you supinate the left hand (start turning your palm to the sky) to square the face and move your hands in front of the club to create speed and lag the club behind the hands. That's right, ya boys been studying. Coming for you @Matt Scharff

    What’s your handicap? You look good enough to be off scratch. What are your goals? To Turn pro . Play pga tour. You need to play mini tours , then progress. Your swing is good enough you need to score. Count all your shots from 100 yards or less every round. Goal should be 36. Also pick ten balls around a green. 4 bunker 3 each rough and fringe and don’t leave until you take 20 shots to get them in the hole. Try Dave pelz missemall game from short game bible. Good luck

    With that last driver swing you get a more shallow top of back swing but your wrists were still in the same spot as if you were steep. Therefore, they were across the line which could be the reason you sometimes hit those shots where you feel like the club head is open at impact

    I'm going through exactly the same swing change as you are. My coach has said try to feel the downswing begin with pulling the left hand at the ball and then releasing the club with the right hand to impact. It's such a different feeling and so difficult to retrain the muscles to do something different to what they have been doing for (in my case) 20+ years.

    I’m working on the same thing right now. Crazy to see other people grinding through the repetitions. I think about it as whipping the club head behind me on the downswing. You’re doing great and can’t wait the see the top tier content because of your hard work.

    Let's get it. Going pro in 2024! Picture Sergio when you start getting steep. Maybe a tiny pause at the top. When I played my best golf I wore my 9 and PW out and that translated into a good path with all my clubs. Unfortunately I was only able to get down to a 6. You've got so much talent.

    Holy swing of destiny. Lol something I experienced when I started vlogging is I tend to focus more on the content then actually focusing on every swing which makes my game go to crap on camera so I can't even imagine with the amount of content you push out it would be super hard to really take every round seriously. But at the end of the day G people love to watch your videos for the content. Awesome group of guys with great chemistry! 🤘

    Try to keep that left knee still for longer during the takeaway, and prevent it from coming over your left toe on the top of the backswing. Keeping more quiet legs might allow for the wrists to transition easier and close that clubface.
    Your upper body position is perfect at the top, so you dont need to worry much about spine angle or being too upright at impact, and your swing plane is stable enough so that you dont need to worry much about going over the line.
    Cameron Champ goes over the top by like 5 degrees with his hands, and he can manage thanks to good wrist action which keeps the clubhead on a good line.

    I used the thought of turning holding a pizza box in my palm to get the draw. Then developed a hook, guessing i had too much 🍕. Can't wait for travel restrictions to ease in Scotland so I can hit a ball again. Putting on carpet got dull a month ago.

    Also watching your rang session has actually helped me out with my swing cause I used to hit a draw then hit fades/slices but didn’t know what I was doing and now seeing this next to my swing videos I know what I need to do ☺️☺️

    Garrett, if u wanna feel shallow on the down swing, try to feel ur right elbow attached to ur right hip at the top of ur backswing

  • @glasstransition
    @glasstransition 3 года назад

    You may have a little early hip extension in your back swing that leads to your hips thrusting toward the ball coming into impact.. it's more noticeable on your longer irons/driver. The center of your hips may be a little too far back (behind your heels) at address. You are a heck of a golfer with remarkable hand/eye coordination so it doesn't seem to be affecting your ball striking a whole lot. Great video and keep up the hard work!

    It’s awesome to see your lesson/lessons paying off. I’m actually working on the same thing and I too use my divots as an indicator. There are so many different ways to swing the club it’s cool to see someone else being taught the same as me.
