I get the impression that, like a lot of us evidently, it made a mark on him. I tried that scenario once, It ended pretty quickly and the Japanese were not happy!
Fantastic Andrew, this looks really interesting. I saw the Stalingrad edition a while ago. I’m looking forward to seeing how the game plays out. The ship and aircraft cards look great. Thanks for taking the time to post this. The final countdown is a classic, I love the WWii time slip films like GI Combat and Zipang. Zipang is about a Japanese Self Defence Aegis Cruiser going back to just before Midway. One episode showed the short range missiles intercept the Yamato’s gun salvo.

Thanks so much for pointing out the Zipang series to me. I had heard of it but your comment motivated me to go and check it out properly. Excellent storytelling, and a lot more enjoyable than 'Deep Blue Fleet', which degenerated from a really interesting premise into self-justifying propaganda. Have you ever heard of that one?
I previously owned this game, and it is a good one in my opinion! I've noticed we have a remarkably common taste in games! found the game to be easy to learn, and it's definitely fun to play. I also thought it was an easy game to teach and a good one for new players, who always seemed to enjoy it. I caught your part 1 first, so I'm doing a little backtracking here, lol. I have to compliment you on your videos, they are always very enjoyable to watch! Cheers! 🍻 PS- The Final Countdown, I remember that movie. DVG games Corsair Leader also included this "what if" movie from yesteryear in it! The Final Countdown, an apparent cult classic in the war game world for designers when it comes to carrier games! It was a good flick for back in the day.

I wanted to give this one a good run as I feel it is the better of Cunliffe's two games in the series, and is a blast for all the reasons you mention. I've never forgotten the first time I watched The Final Countdown - mark of a great movie that I was both relieved history was -mostly- restored....but part of me really wanted USS Nimitz to gently dissuade the First Air Fleet from attacking Pearl lol!
A good game to play an otherwise difficult campaign Solo. Look forward to see if I have been playing this correctly. Note Admirals Phase occurs after EACH carrier Action. No, I haven’t played the Nimitz scenario but it is what we wanted to see in the movie.
Hope the videos help, and please do call out if you spot me going astray with any of the rules. The Admirals Phase was the one big ambiguity in the rules that caught me when I first started playing. It was only when my friend and I were wondering what the point of the Admirals Phase was did we realise our mistake...
Thanks very much! No, sadly the game only gives submarines a presence in the optional campaign system, and it relegates them to a random event that may strike the US fleet post-battle. No role for USS Nautilus at Midway in this one, more's the pity...
@andrewchoong2895 Corr am I ,,,, not , can't wait for the response,,,,,, ps you looked one card twice in the search phase , the first U looked at in the first reveal , I thought it was an unimaginative place to look but bearing in mind easy to remember ,as U were doing two players work, all is forgiven,,,,, just looked dumb ,,,,, btw U drew two wake cards/ kept one and placed the other face down as per , my question is ,,,, wasn't it possible as the US player, couldn't you hope to pick that up again for the bonus, or isn't that allowed ?? Game looks a proper blast , excellent 🐦
