A playthrough of a short mission in which a small patrol of US Marines is tasked with scouting, seizing and holding a small river crossing. Edit: I confused the Hostile appearance with Hostile reinforcements rule. In fact, the two Hostile Japanese cards I drew should have appeared on the terrain. I will rectify this in some imaginative way in the next video. Apologies, all!

    Love the vid, we have a very similar interest in games. I have Warfighter Pacific, but haven't gotten around to breaking it out yet! 😲 I'll have to check and see if I have Peleliu. Ah rats, I've got Tarawa, Iwo, Attu & Guadalcanal!

      Ah, I think you've got all of them, Rob. I made up Peleliu with generic mission cards from the core set, but as far as I'm aware they have not made an expansion for it. Mainly me wanting to fit the poor Marines into whatever they were doing 80 years ago! 🙂

      If you get a chance, I'd recommend giving the PTO a whirl. I have the Australian expansions and they include some very tough troops. The Brits are a mixed bag and there are no Indians or Nationalist Chinese yet, as far as I know. Also, I was foolishly playing against the Japanese 'Elite' deck. The regular troops give you a little more of a break.

    I was surprised when I saw the “concluding part” on the video title, then I began watching and an infantry gun showed up, and then I stopped being so surprised. Is there no cap on the amount of suppression a single soldier can have?

    • @andrewchoong2895
      @andrewchoong2895 4 часа назад

      Yeah, to be honest I had no notion that things would spiral out of control so quickly, especially as I thought I was doing rather well at first. Welcome to warfare, I suppose 😅 No, there is no suppression cap, which does make getting pinned down in this game deadly. The pressure will stay on until they either get a lucky shot or overwhelm you with reinforcements....

    Andrew, thanks for your work! I'd imagine that the lack of use of the torpedoes, is, in addition to what you mention, that you'd have to maneuver the ship for the best attack angle, something that would complicate the more potent gunnery solutions, which already have a much greater potential impact.

    Thank you for another very informative and interesting upload! At 5:17 the shot of the SMS Friedrich der Grosse gives me the impression that with the echeloned starboard and port gun turrets could actually both be used at the same time for a full broadside (i.e., all 10 guns could be used in a broadside to either port or starboard). It appears that there is no super structure that would block the echeloned guns in the turret on the port side from turning to fire to the starboard side, and vice-versa. Am I correct in this, or was there a reason that the "off-side" echeloned turret could not be turned to fire to the opposite side of the ship? Thanks in advance for your answer.

    • @andrewchoong2895
      @andrewchoong2895 15 дней назад

      That's an excellent question, and thanks very much for the kind comments :) Yes, the Kaiser class could employ all ten of their guns on each broadside. The blast would do a certain amount of damage to unarmoured parts of the ship in the vicinity, but this would be largely cosmetic in nature and wouldn't impair the ship's fighting ability.

Truly hope that the family was able to participate / tag along to some degree as well to share in the whole experience with you. Thanks also for the preview of coming attractions and of those I’m most interested to see the vids on Warfighter. I’ve watched a few but remain unmoved away from my love of Up Front, the granddaddy or perhaps great granddaddy now of WW II card format games. Per that, I’ll again register my vote (plea) for a return sooner than naught of Sgt. Choong and the lads, at least for a quick campaign and would then welcome your analysis / comparison with Up Front. FYI - my last campaign effort with Para’s of the 101st played during early June in sync with the actual landings did not fare well at all. German snipers feasted most uncannily on my NCO’s for 3 of the 4 missions ran and the final effort to take out a Jerry pillbox did the boys in with all but 2 falling victim to a deadly accurate MMG. End of squad. They fought gallantly and with valor. May they rest in peace.

We did manage to get some time in last month, which was something, but I owe them a decent holiday next year. Agreed, Warfighter does not come close to Up Front in terms of being a good simulation of individual infantrymen in WWII. It is fun to play, but it does also have some unusual mechanics which I think Up Front handles a bit more realistically. Not to say it's a bad game, but when you compare it to UF.....On the subject, I'm very sorry to hear of what befell your boys from the 101st. All credit to them for doing their best against heavy odds. I really must rouse Sgt Choong and the boys to head out and settle the score - not to mention there's still a lot of the planet that needs liberating in late 1944! I've not really touched UF much this summer, much to my regret. I'm going to have to remedy this sooner...

    Fantastic to see you back on the channel again! We had a great summer and in wargaming I picked up and have been having a fun time with GMT’s Beneath the Med. Now I’m on the order list for the next printing of Silent Victory.

      Thanks so much! It's great to be back :) Really glad to hear you've had an enjoyable summer, and sounds like you've been having a nice load of sub-surface warfare to keep you busy. Funnily enough, I met someone at a conference in Holland who a) lives quite close to me and b) has the original 'Silent Victory' and 'Gato Leader'. I've been invited over to his to have a bash at both sometime :)

      Hello, and thanks very much for your message! Glad you've managed to secure this excellent game and the expansions. I have it out on loan to a friend at the moment, but he is visiting me next month, and it is on my 'to do' list to do the full playthrough with everything :). It may take me a while to work my way to get to it as I've let said list get a little long, but it will happen :)
