    I've watched quite a few oil change videos for my different cars and that's probably the best one I've seen.

    Thanks for the info. One important note is to use a 6 point 17mm socket instead of a 12 point 17mm socket. 12 point 17mm socket will not open drain bolt.

  • @gunnerneikoify
    @gunnerneikoify 7 лет назад

    17mm box end open end wrench using the box end works best for taking out the drain plug. Put the box end on the plug and give it a good hard and quick whack with the meaty heal part of your hand to "pop" the plug loose!! Using a ratchet and socket is doing it the HARD WAY!!!!

  • @chrislovett87

    I think I'll take my chances and use a Wix filter on mine, Kia can't force the use of an OEM filter unless they provide them, which in my case they did NOT.

  • @m476nycity
    @m476nycity 8 лет назад

    It is usually best to change the oil filter first. On most vehicles it breaks the seal when the filter is removed and sometimes up to half a quart of oil will drain back into the pan that was held in the system by the anti-drainback valve in the filter. I bet if you removed the drain plug again you would get a decent amount of oil coming out of there after the filter was replaced.

    A word of advice, do not overfill your engine with oil. always maintain oil level within the low and high lines on your dip stick.

    I think you have to fill the filter with oil before you put it back , otherwise the engine will not have oil when you start the engine for the first 3 or 4 seconds

    No need to replace the oil drain plug washer each and every time!!! That washer is good for AT LEAST 10-20 oil changes!!

    • @mozillagenesis
      @mozillagenesis 6 лет назад

      Heck, I had a Kia Spectra and I NEVER replaced the washer the entire life of the car lol. Had it for up to 180k miles before I sold it. Still the original washer, didn't leak.

    I saw by the marking on the panel you took off to get at the pan bolt and filter that you look like you were going to modify the panel so you wouldn't have to take the 10mm screws out. Am I correct and if so I assume it does not void the warranty? Also Kia is supposed to supply the oil filters since it's a requirement to use OEM filters? I am in NY State and my son just bought a couple of filters for his Sorento which is also a 2016.

  • @minwild

    What happened with the odd clip things next to the 10mm bolts when removing the underside cover?

    • @imstricken06
      @imstricken06  8 лет назад +1

      +Minwild G they are just push-on style fasteners. they are attached to the splash shield and push/pull onto the studs.

    I have a 2016 Sorrento SXL-Turbo, when I did my first oil change the drain plug was extremely tight as I saw in your video. Why does the factory tighten the drain plug so tight??? You think they'd be concerned about the possibility of stripping the threads or creating future problems for the owner.Any thoughts?

    • @imstricken06
      @imstricken06  8 лет назад +1

      no idea. its not a problem anymore. it might be the curing process from the metals bonding - idk,

  • @jand5384
    @jand5384 5 лет назад

    Hey, your cars' front wheels are on these ramps. Isn't that a problem for draining the oil? I mean shouldn't it be parked flat or horizontal? (sorry for my English)

    • @darkstar9008
      @darkstar9008 5 лет назад

      On the Kia Sorento the drain plug is on the back of the oil pan, pointing towards the rear of the vehicle, so I think it should be fine, if not help the draining process.

    • @imstricken06

      ArchiesInc JJDisposal I highly suggest it. Read the factory TSB on it. We need very specific oil flow and only the factory filter allows it.

    I notice you're using Mobile 1. Any truth to the earlier comments that anything other than KIA oil & filter void the warranty?

    • @lotsofthisandthat9791
      @lotsofthisandthat9791 2 года назад

      Kia handbook on my 2018 optima says Total oil. No way you ever find that brand in USA. Just find a full synthetic that meets KIA specs, ISLAc 6, API, SP and proper weight oil. USE OEM FILTER ONLY or the Stealership will try to weasel out of engine warranty if you use other filters.

  • @Teribus13
    @Teribus13 8 лет назад +1

    do you have any warranty issues where you are by doing your own servicing? Here in the UK, the Kia warranty is 7 years or 100,000 miles. However, you must have all servicing done by a main dealer or reputable garage and using only kia parts.
    Also, what cameras do you use?

    • @chrisrasmussen5018
      @chrisrasmussen5018 8 лет назад

      +Teribus13 Here in the states it violates warranty laws to require the use of oem parts unless they are provided free of charge. That being said on my Kias i only use OEM filters when I do my changes. I use the money saved on oil changes to put towards the more technical maintenance.

    • @danr8194
      @danr8194 8 лет назад

      kia may deny warranty if you use a non oem filter and/or incorrect oil. save your receipt of filters and oil for warranty. I'm pretty sure even uk dealers are using the fear factor as over here. check the fine print, it gives you the terms

    Hey my Kia Sorrento 2016 is burning lot oil between oil changes. I have to keep checking every week oil level.
    Any suggestion why is this happening ?
    My car has 150 k.
    Thanks

    • @imstricken06
      @imstricken06  5 лет назад +1

      Your car falls under the lifetime engine warranty. Make sure that’s squared away via the recall. We apparently have an issue where some tiny metal shavings jam oil passages reducing lubrication. That could be the cause of excessive engine wear that you could be having. Also check for leaks. Some leaks only happen under engine load, so your parking space will be clean.

    Take that under cover off and throw it straight in the trash!!! Has no purpose whatsoever!!!! The ONLY thing it does is hold road debris, dirt and the worse thing----moisture underneath the vehicle!!!! I can't even begin to tell you how many Kia's that come into our shop with these things on that are rusting out like CRAZY underneath that cover because it holds moisture under the car!! And also, how many Kia's that come into our shop that have had the covers removed since DAY 1 that have absolutely no rust anywhere underneath the engine and frame!! With it removed the underside of the engine and frame gets a constant circulation of fresh air to dry things out after driving through the rain. With that cover on, all the moisture is held underneath the car for days on end causing severe rusting to occur!!! As far as people saying that it improves air flow underneath the vehicle thus increasing fuel mileage, I call B.S. on that one!!!! With it removed there is ZERO decrease in gas mileage-ZERO!!
