  • This operation allowed me to avoid fusion. I’m documenting my progress for others to see so that they can make a little more informed decision. Artificial disc replacement ADR at l4l5 l5s1 is where my two discs are replaced.

Thank you for your story - I’m sending MRI & X-Ray to Dr. Ritter-Lang for Artificial disc replacement. I’ve struggled with years of back pain, leg pain, etc. Got whiplash from car accident shortly after back herniated, didn’t help my recovery/condition, I won’t talk about that now. My back herniated in 2016. I’ve had one discectomy surgery which didn’t fix my issue. I’ve gone through a lot of struggles with trying to recover and I’ve realized once you herniated a disc you can’t fix that without a disc replacement, until then you can only manage the pain. I wanted to share a list of items I use in my daily routine that provide a lot of comfort until I hopefully get my back fixed.
    Natural supplements everyday
    ------------------
    - Asian ginseng (helps nerve pain)
    - Dark green leafy vegetables !!!
    - Almond milk (2 to 3 times daily)
    - Ginger root (lowers inflammation)
    - Cod liver oil (lowers inflammation)
    - Minimal carbohydrates (causes me inflammation)
    - 50 gram protein breakfast with vegetables for stretch
    Stretches
    ------
    - Psoas muscle stretch (very important)
    - Splits stretch (not side splits, front to back splits) take it slow lol
    - Leg stretches (throughout the day)
    - calve stretch !!!!!!
    - foam rolling back and front of entire legs
    Exercises
    ------
    - Hiking ! Everyday or almost everyday for 1 hour or more
    - no heavy leg exercises (I found that righting the leg muscles doesn’t help with relieving muscle tightness)
    Doctors
    -----
    - Plasma rich platelet injections as needed for pain
    - Regular Chiropractic adjustments
    - Regular massages (every two weeks)
    - Touch is very important (being loved)
    - Anything to calm your mind which will lower body tightness

    Hi Jeremiah
Thanks for the update, been following you. I am in talks with a few doctors as well, Desai being one of them. I am curious you said you are at 90% , just what does that really mean, 90% of what you were before the procedure. I guess what I am saying is how is your back now compared to just before the surgery . Do you feel like your back is improved much more like before you had issues with your back?

DarkZodiacINC I guess I would say 90 out of 100. 100 being no back pain at all. Actually, recently I've had days where I've felt 95 out of 100. Things are really starting to clear up for me. I feel like I could sprint around and do a bunch of crazy stuff but am choosing not to.

that is great, I know the beginning videos you almost seemed to regret the procedure, was not an easy recover for you. I even mentioned your recovery to Dr Desai he thought your troubles were not the norm. Very glad things are finally working out for you.

If you are in pain for or during sleep, you heal so much slower. Do everything from a hot bath before bed to Antiinflammatory and pain meds. Contact your Doctor for help or suffer for so much longer than necessary.

    Hi Jeremiah,
I've missed somehow to understand what do you do for a living? Does it require a lot of sitting or standing?
For your full recovery, try Muscle Activation Technique, I am one of the practitioners but also candidate for surgery. MAT will raise your body break point and help your body tolerate the pain. Main benefit will be restoring motor control of your muscles that were traumatized especially ones that had incision on them, meaning right now you might feel pain because some muscles are overworking trying to compensate for other ones that are inactive.
How soon you were able to go back to work? Does it hurt if you twist your body?
I would appreciate your answers brother because my job is physically demanding and I don't know how soon I will be able to go back to work.
    Thank you

From my experience, a physically demanding job will have to wait for you to heal. You can go back to a desk job after about three or four months but anything more demanding then that should wait in my opinion. Everyone is different, but I think that you should have to wait at least a year before you get back to something physically demanding. I can twist without issues but I am having some pretty difficult upper back muscle tightness issues now. Watch my new video. I will be posting today.
