  • This operation allowed me to avoid fusion. I’m documenting my progress for others to see so that they can make a little more informed decision. Artificial disc replacement ADR at l4l5 l5s1 is where my two discs are replaced. Medications, supplements, exercises, diet and nutrition.

    I’m so happy when you upload your updates, they have helped to motivate me to take this path. I have the same discs affecting me, and my life has come to a stop because of my DDD. So I am ready to do something about it, and thank you so much for keeping us up to date on your progress. God bless.

    Hey man, i really wish you a good rehab and i really understand what you're going through cause actually in ten days, it's gonna be 5 months since i had my l5s1 fused with a roi A cage. I've Been operated on january 2018, I'm from paris, france, 36 years old. After the surgery i couldn't wake up for 4 days , i also fainted twice. I felt miserable really helpless but somehow managed to go through too. I had back issues since 2005, im 6.2 had a very quick growth, i had to quit Brazilian jiujitsu in 2007, snowbording in 2010. Same as you, I've been staying active since , doing both fitness and swimming pool. I've started 3 years ago some stretching classes and pilates that improved my condition for a bit. I was somehow able to handle the pain. Fortunately for me my leg wasn't suffering too much from a sciatic. But in the end around september 2016 i was done, the pain was so strong in my lumbar and my hips that i couldn't even lay on my back, barely able to sleep more than 4 hours per night, and waking up completely exhausted in spite of the medication, pain killers and painfull intradiscal injections.... I couldn't walk for more than 20 minutes too. My l5s1 was almost gone with a non stop inflammatory process my l4l5 badly damaged too. So i also aimed for the surgery looking for the lpesp 2 prothesis and was able to meet a world class level surgeon in Paris who took part in the development of the lpesp along with his team at the pitie sal petriere hospital. He was very kind, supportive, empathic and i loved the humility, very down to earth. I felt like i could trust him 100% and i was right. Unfortunately for me, after carefully watching my mri and an abdomen scanner , he warned me before the surgery that there might be some vascular complications to put the prothesis because of my artery which was very big and stuck to my bone, basically that there might not be enough space to put the implant. But he couldn't be really sure before opening me up. So When he opened me it was indeed the case and had no other options to fuse l5with s1. I felt kind of depressed the weeks after the surgery but I've moved on since. I know that he did the best for me and honnestly i feel like I've only lost 15% of my back mobility. It's okay . I feel very strong now on l5s1( bones is developing well), I'm sleeping well and the inflammation is no more. But as expected (but not as much sooner ) l4l5 has started to hurt more and more since one month ago. We decided not to do l4l5 because it didn't hurt at the time. And my surgeon told me that it's always better to keep it natural as long as it's possible. But It's not the case anymore. I'll meet him on july 2nd and we will talk about another disc replacement surgery on l4l5. Hoppefully this time at this level there won't be issues. I won't accept a second fusion anyway but I'm staying positive and I'm confident that he'll do anything he can. I'm sorry for writting so much, but im sure that you understand what im feeing. I started to watch your videos and it is crazy because your experience is just so close than mine (except the artificial disc) that i couldn't help letting you know my story. I really wish you the best, take care mate the worst is behind, and the futur is bright for both of us. Cheers ✌☺

      Hey Olivier, Thanks for telling us your story. I was going to meet with Jean-Yves as well but the waiting time to see him was 5 months. I almost went with a Dr. in Marseille but he advised against doing two ADR's. He wanted to fuse L5-S1 and then place a disc at L4-L5. Remember, Tiger Woods had L5-S1 fused. I dont think its such a bad thing to be fused as long as you take care of yourself and you are careful. This is the primary reason why I went with Desai. If you watch my new video that I will be posting today, you will see where I am at now in terms of recovery. Take care man. I wish you well.

      @@jeremiahgriego8677 thanks for your reply man and congratulations for your baby! Today I'm still struggling with low back issues but nowhere close to the inflammatory pain i had before the fuse in l5s1. My surgeon ( workmate of professor lazenec)thinks that it may be the result of 2things: first of all, the bone which is developing around the implant is not thick enough yet, therefore there's still might be some slight movement between the s1 and l5 vertebraes. Secondly l4l5 is about 50% of its natural size which could also be reason why i still do feel pain in the low back. Fortunately there's no hernia and no inflammation either. So now I'm waiting to enter a rehabilitation center for former sporstmen who are dealing with the same issues than we are. Besides, I'm 8 months post surgery today and since two weeks ago,same as you do, I've started to have some tightness muscles discomfort in the upper back.but to be honest I'm a motorcycle biker lover and I'm sure that it definitely doesn't help. I'm pretty sure it's the result of the fuse as well as a change in our biomechanic. The upper and the low back are connected anyhow. So I'm working a lot on my back muscle reinforcement every day without lifting weight. Pilates moves, plank, static moves and i do a lot of stretching too as a former fitness trainer. I'm taking aspirin too and lamaline (a little bit stronger than ibuprofen). Man, once the l5s1 fuse will be completed,i will attend restorative yin yoga( hyengar) 3or 4times per weeks. So in your situation If the 2 prothesis are ok now maybe you should check yin yoga class too too to soften and get rid of your tightness. Hopefully it would be nice to meet you too someday if i ever go to Albuquerque so we could share our experiences. We had a very similar life process regarding the back issues( 36y old, pain since 2006...) . thank you so much for your video anyway, take care and cheers man👍

    You had surgery with Desai right? How many days were in hospital and was there any prescribed physical therapy afterwards?
    Glad you're doing well. I've got a bad L5-S1 that is causing major sciatic pain after sitting...can't even walk unless I lay flat for 15-20 minutes to "reset" it. It's hell.

    • @jeremiahgriego8677
      @jeremiahgriego8677  6 лет назад +1

      Yes with Desai. I was in the hospital for 5 days. There was not any prescribed physical therapy. He told me to walk and stretch for the first couple of months until I started feeling better. Then he said I could slowly start to incorporate different corps exercises. He said Pilates would be good to do once my body felt capable. I'm sorry about what you are having to go through. Please try to stay strong.

      I ask about post-op therapy because it seems some of the other surgeons immediately begin patients on a post-op physical therapy prescription. Looks like ONZ in Germany and the Pyramid Hospital in Switzerland do some of this immediate post-op therapy. What made you choose Desai over other surgeons?

      I chose the LP-ESP and believe it is better but surgeon is probably more important then disc. There are people that have had M6 that are very happy. Honestly, I'm not sure which one is better.
