Tara you are such an inspiration I follow you on all my accounts. I really want to start a skincare business even though I’m still young. You are really special to me.
Your videos are amazing and so informative. I’ve been watching 100s of videos that don’t give enough of information. If only I have found you sooner 😩 new subbie here!
Love the video! Thank you soooo much but got a question. Did you ever write an example of a formula? I watched video twice.
Well explained Tara. You're a good teacher and you talk pretty fast so you're always able to cover alot... Good job👍

Hi Tara! I wish you have videos about carrier and/or essential oils for cosmetic use like facial oils, lip salve and scrubs.. more like Carrier Oils 101.
Great content btw! 💋
I have actually thought about doing one over carrier oils, but there are just so many out there I feel like it would be an over whelming video. lol but I still may do it some time :)
thanks for the suggestion!
glad you enjoy my content :)
thank you so much for this, I'm starting a hair care line and this is really helpful it's not only for skincare and can you also show how to make a formula because I wanted to know how to make big batches and also do you still follow the percentages given even if your making a big batch or you use more than the percentages
Thank you Tara, this is very informative. As a beginner in selling my skin care products, I am learning alot from all of your videos :).... As soon as my business kicks off, I am coming for the patreon. Love from South Africa
Thank you so much God bless you and your brand❤

Thank you so much Tara!! This is very useful... lots of love 🥺♥️♥️😘😘
How did you learn all of this? I really want to be major in these.
There’s independent schools, but if you’re in a university it’ll be best to go the bio Chem route, but you’ll still need to speak with teachers.
They have cosmetic formulation courses as well

EXCELLENT VIDEO! THANK YOU SO MUCH! You are such a blessing!
You are the best! Thanks so much for your videos
Thanks so much... Confusion cleared 😗😗
You should do a video where you have to use a preservative and lets us watch you while you actually formulate the product. Like while your figuring out the amounts and numbers, how much preservative to do. Let’s us see you do the chemistry. That’s the hard part for me and I’m sure lots of others.
hello dear tara
I found your videos very useful, and I learned from you a lot. Thanks for sharing those contests with us.
I'll appreciate it if you share the formula of "anti-aging hair repair treatment" with us. Its an oily product, when I poured some water into the mentioned product, immediately changes into a stable emulsion.
I wish you all the best
your videos helped so much! thankyou
Thank you. Love Percentage.
thank you so much for watching :)
Awesome channel I've learned so much and so many of my questions have been answered.
Thanks for explaining Tara!
this is so interesting!
so glad you found it interesting :)
Yes! Thank you!
glad you enjoyed :)
first of all, I just wanna say I love your channel, I am looking forward to opening my own skincare business soon so I been using your channel & google as research LOL. Quick question though, if your extracts already have a preservative added, do I still need to add some when making face washes, body scrubs, butters, etc.??
Yep! Because your product can still get contaminants from other things for example your hand when u dip fingers in your product, or from your other ingredients or even your packaging... especially if your product has water content in it.
Hi Tara really informative video here. can I ask when you say hold the temperature for 20 minutes what exactly do you mean?another question is can the oil phase have a higher percentage than the water phase?
Very helpful thank you
so glad you found it helpful! :)
That's a lot of useful tips, dear! =)
So glad you found it useful! :)
HEY TARA , thank you for the gems . pleaaaaase slow down a bit lol . but you are awesome !
i love this!!! 💖 amazing!
Thank you so much for watching!
I love all your videos and I have a question, if I make a formula, and it comes to 115% do I have to scale it back to a 100% by reducing some ingredients? Why is so important to have 100%?
it’s important to keep it at 100% for the safety of ingredients and the ability to easily scale up and down the formula.
so yes, it it equals 115% you need to remove something to make it 100%
Question: How do you maintain 100% and increase the quantity of your product?
I second this question!
Take the % of the ingredient and divide by the total size of your batch to get the number of grams or ounces needed of that ingredient.
@@Stephanie_Sharer so when making a btach in grams can i convert ounces to grams? for example a 4oz bottle is 113.4 grams so i will use 113.4 g as my batch size and caculate all my percents for the batch of 113.4 would that be correct?
Very helpful,thank you.
glad you enjoyed!
Thank you!!
A good job Tara
Does your patron help it’s members to creat a “similar “ formula to something they already use and like?
You are the cutest thing ever 💗😍 and so helpful too
aww you are so sweet! Thank you! & I'm glad you find my videos helpful
Thank you Tara for these videos. Like really!
Love love your content! Question after you have all you ingredients and recommended usage rate for each ingredient and it equals to 100% what do you Good morning do next? I’m assuming you would transfer each percentage of each ingredient into grams but if I’m correct how do you do that?
We need a formulating video on scrubs.
Just like you made on face wash body oil and body butter.
Please make one on scrubs and mask❤️❤️
Working on it 😉
A friend and I are looking to start our business together making scrubs and butter. We're looking to keep it as natural as possible but safe. Is this the best channel to consider for our journey?? Or will this information still benefit us?? It seems to delve deep into chemistry which we have no experience with.
Hi Tara, I am a beginner in natural cosmetics, but I am from Latin America and my English is not very good, sometimes I do not understand because you are very fast for me. Do you have a blog where you talk about all this please? !! Hola
I so sympathize with Invisalign!!!!!
Hey love your channel by the way. I want to know which patron membership do you have where i can ask you formula related questions ?
Love your videos
thank you so much!
So do you heat both water and oil phases for every recipe or just for lotions and moisturizers???
Thank you
Hi! Can we buy ingredients with the shop that you recommend here in the Philippines?
Tara .. what is the correct temperature to cook my raw botanical ingredients ?
I know this is an old video, but I have a question. I want to make my own version of a major brand of skin cream that I love. There are ingredients in it that I don't really want on my skin, and other ingredients that I want to add in, or find a more natural replacement for.
Is there a way to figure out a recipe based on the ingredient list so that I can change it and make something similar, but different? Does this make sense? Also, the cream I buy is $20 a pot, and I like to use it all over, and that gets really expensive!
thank you!!!!! ✌🏻
Great content, Tara! I am learning a lot. I want to buy Leucidal SF complete, but LotionCrafters shows the sf or the SF max. Does it matter which one? Thanks for replying!
When you say active ingredients, are you referring to what the ingredient is best for in the of skin?
what a good video idea 💜
So glad you enjoyed!!! :)
What percentage of shea butter do you typically use?
Would you heat oils to 120 degrees and hold for 20 minutes as well? Heating the oil isn't breaking it down, destroying some of its properties nutrients?
Notification Gang!
woohoo!!
glad you stopped by
Hi ! I have a question : what should one do when creating a formula using ingredients with different ph ?
take the ph of your finished product and if you need to raise the ph raise it and if it needs lowered then lower it.
but you need to make sure the ingredients you are using are active in whatever ph level you formulate your product to.
for example alpha hydroxy acids need to be in a formulation with a ph of 3.5-4
and something like niacinamide needs to be at a ph of around 6 I believe.
I have a video all about how to raise and lower ph levels - ruclips.net/video/jMVg4n4u7uU/видео.html
@@TaraLeee thanks you really are helpful. I will be watching your PH balancing video.
Hi I know this video was posted a while now but it's still very helpful...I know a basic body butter recipe the oils and butters adds up to 100%...what I'm not understanding is emulsifying body butter...does the oils and butters add up to the same 100 or does it includes everything.. water stage and cool down stage...can someone please help...I just need to understand how the formulation goes to understand how much water is needed how much emulsifying wax, etc...thank in advance
Can I use 50% of emulsifying wax if I like my product thick or its hatmful
That's really neat
glad you enjoyed! :)
I have a question when making a btach in grams can i convert ounces to grams? for example a 4oz bottle is 113.4 grams so i will use 113.4 g as my batch size and caculate all my percents for the batch of 113.4 would that be correct?
Hi, Im new to your channel and fairly new to making skin care products. I stop a while back because I kept getting stuck on % needed in a recipe and suggested use %. The whole everything equals 100%. How do I come to 100% based on the amount of ingred. Im using?? Sorry, if I come "duhhh!"..lol
This is the struggle I am having. I cannot figure it out 😩
I think she said it depends on the ingredients you are using , they mostly have a suggested usage %
@@ZamashengeFufutjieButhelezi thank you. Times has passed now and I figured it all out now. Appreciate your help.
Hi Tara. Would hylaronic a is go down in cooking phase as well if I am making an oil?
Yo ur the bomb! Thank you!!
How do you mix actives ? And know how much to use and how much not to use?
Very helpful!!! 😄 Fantastic video my Friend!!! Like#39 from me ❤️😊❤️
thank you so much!
Did u take a cosmetic formulation course?
Tara , I am looking to develop an Oil for face and body... do you offer formulation services , I am based in Uk, Manchester... let me know .. thanks
Can I put yogurt in my lotion or soy milk?
Hey Tara, are you a chemist?
Can you make a milk cleanser cleanser using actual milk powders
How do you know how to weight it out do you use just the scale .or do you use something that has grams on it .and how do you weight out oils .
Thanks for your videos ! I have a question , do you add arrowroot powder in the cool down phase ?
Thank you so much for your videos I am trying to get into making my own cosmetics and was feeling kind of overwhelmed but your videos are helping so much ! I also am going to go to school for business. Is there anything else I should go for ?
Won't e.g. water evaporate if I heat it up? x
What if the website doesn’t have information on the usage rate
Wow
👍💗
❤❤❤
Tara please I want to make frankincense face toner help me 🥺
Really nice hun
I loved it 😍
I also just uploaded a video 😊
thank you so much!
glad you enjoyed :)
I'll check out your new video!
How do you measure the percentage
Hey so I have a question when they say “To 100” what does that mean? Does it mean 1.00 grams?
It means the total percentage is 100 percent. It depends on how much u wanna make a batch. For example you wanted to make 100 grams batch, 100% of 100 grams is 100 grams. So if the formula calls for 80% water... you have to add 80% x 100 gram which is 80 gram water when youre making the cosmetic...
@Purrciouspaws So let me get this straight- if I have all my ingredients and all my recommended usage rates for each ingredient and my batch size is 120g I would multiply each percent for each ingredient and multiply that by 120g(my batch size) to get my grams for each ingredient and then add all of my percentages to equal 100%? And if it doesn’t equal 100% I’ll need to adjust my percentages accordingly.
@@vaslim1711 i dont think i really understand what you are saying, probably because english is not my first language. If your point is you wanna know how many grams per ingredients you needed in your formulation so you can achieve 100%, then yes 1. You should know each usage rates of ingredients 2. Try to add all of the rates and make sure the total percentages is 100% 3. If not, adjust it so you can achieve 100% total 4. Decide how big of batch you wanna make, ie. 100 grams lotion. 5. Look at the each percentages of the ingredients ie. The lotion ingredients is 80% water, 5% e.wax, 15% oil then to know how many grams you should add water is 80/100 (stands for 80%) x (multiply) 100 (stands for 100 grams batch) = 80 gram (of water needed in formula), 5/100 x 100 = 5 grams of e wax, 15/100 x 100 = 15 grams of oil. When you add 80%+5%+15% its equal 100. So is 80g+5+15 equal the batch size you wanna make which is 100 g. I hope im making sense here and help you a little!
@purrciouspaws oh thank you so very very much! You understand and answered my question very well. I’ve been reading and researching, and watching videos and trying to communicate with those in the cosmetic/ formulating world and I’ve been coming up empty on this pressing question for me. Thank you again! Have a wonderful day!
