I would love if you put together "cheat sheets" for videos like this with all of the information written out! It would be so helpful to be able to print this out and reference it.
Paula from Paula's choice has an entire dictionary of ingredients, what they do, etc. I also have some sheets left from my esthetic school, but Idk how I would get those to you, lol. But, there are entire books about it, one I think is called "Cosmetic Ingredients Encyclopedia", or something like that, as well as others. I used them to study in school. Hth!
As an esthetician I find these type of videos super helpful for me to understand ingredients and product formulas & I love the way you break it down and make everything easy to digest. I’d love to see a toxic ingredients video or a video on ingredients we should avoid
I really appreciate your content. There is a lot of fear mongering going on in the beauty world with certain ingredients being labelled bad or unsafe coming from people who do not have your qualifications or any knowledge on the safety or purpose of the ingredients.
Agreed! Petrolatum, Mineral Oil and Silicones work wonderfully on my skin and finding products with them is getting harder to find. I was also fine with Parabens but the new replacement ingredients irritate my skin a lot.😕 I want my Parabens back! Thankfully Mineral Oil is easy to find at local Chains like Walmart and I can add it to my lotions and creams for both my face and body. I use a lot of Cerave because they have the ingredients that help my skin thrive! From department stores it’s strictly Clinique. And yes, I know the Estée Lauder companies are testing on animals to be able to be sold in China. It’s required by law in China. I’m trying to find new Skincare that can replace Clinique. No luck so far. I’d love to try Dr. Sam Bunting’s line of skincare but it’s way too costly to have it shipped!
Thank you for posting these! I’m about to graduate with my degree in Biochemistry and cosmetic formulation is my dream job. I feel like this channel is helping me prepare more than my classes
Bro I’m an esthetician major and you just made this so easy to understand thank you so so so much 🥹🥹🙏🙏 I’m about to watch the mess out of all your videos 😄
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I recently just started diving it into skincare videos on RUclips and you are definitely my favorite. Finally I know what all of these ingredients mean! 😅 Please do a video where you explain whether some of these ingredients can be harmful, and what ingredients you definitely want in your skincare routine!
I can't thank you enough for making this!!!! Edit: I am loving the SB hoodie, from the color scheme to what it represents! Just in time for the winter 😍
Thank you for so much content! I’m loving learning all this new info. I’m hoping that you post a video about which of the ingredients you mentioned are beneficial/ harmful. Like I hear all the time in beauty products: “ no parabens!!” But they also sound important from what you said. Thanks! ♥️ -science babe
Congrats on 200K+!!! You are in a league of your own in beauty and skincare education. Such a refreshing breath of air! Keep it up. To a million and beyond!
Great video!!! Best one ever!!! Love how you give examples on screen while explaining. I hope you make more showing good and bad brands to buy or not to waste your money on .
Gurl..... You are AMAZING, that was so thuro. I loved it. Now you need a video on what the differences is between each one lol I love science theres so many options i want to make skincare one day and loved your video soooooo much. you rock!!
Great vid. Can I just make a small suggestion? You seem so humble and that is fantastic.... But can you please note and write that you are a BIOCHEMIST on all your video titles? I found you and subbed because I was so happy that someone who had actually studied was giving us skincare info. No shade to other RUclipsrs but I honestly found it refreshing that you give the science behind the products we use. Keep up the good work ❤️
Thank you so much for this simplified info , I currently own a completely different type of business but my dream was always to have a successful skin care company and finally I'am starting this.
Wow this video is pretty old I just realized as I went to comment… lol but now that makes me excited to watch your new videos now! Absolutely love this video and I’m so glad I stumbled upon it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! I’ve been looking for a video like this for a really long time.
Just found you! I am branching out to learn how to formulate products. So far I like how you explain the ingredients. I look forward to diving in to see what else you have posted. Thank you!
Hey Kenna!!!! Amazing video :))) just wondering if you'd consider making a video going over alcohols found in skincare products? Which ones are harmful and which ones are not, and why they are there in the first place? Thanks so much.
I'm starting a natural skin care business and this information was waaaaayyy too helpful. 🤩 Thank you so much, kisses from Dominican Republic. 😘 Can you post a video about ingredients in toothpaste?
I watch your videos and take notes more attentively than during lecture 😂 as a science student who is obsessed with skin care, this is exactly the content i love. keep doing you!
Hey Kenna I was wondering if you could do a video on hair growth and myths, for example do supplements/vitamins/oils work or are they useless. There is so much information out there but I have no idea what’s scientifically “proven” to work.
Hi Ms Kenna, thank you for taking the time to educate us. Please can you comment- what are your thoughts on growth factors in skin care? What types of issues can arise in formulating growth factors?
This is my dream come true for an informative RUclips video. This is the kinda shit I've always wondered and never been able to put in laymen's terms for myself after googling forEVER. Now that I get the gist (thank you omfg) Google will be much easier haha
What an interesting, informative, and important video! For those of us (and there are so many!) who have become diligent about what goes on our skin and what's contained in the health and beauty items we use on ourselves and loved ones, this is gold! Thank you Kenna, your channel is wonderful as is your presentation!
This is super helpful with understanding products I use on my little one with eczema. The struggle is real, so thank you- I look forward to your videos
LOVE this video! I have learnt so much and those foreign words in the ingredients list make so much sense now. Can you please do more videos on shampoos and conditioner ingredients and hair care in general. Thanks!!❤❤
Hi I just came across your channel the other day and you seriously want me to dig out my biochem textbook again. Your videos are so informative with actual science. As a university science student, I love this channel and subscribed immediately 👍
Your videos are actually very educational. Thank you so much for your effort and this knowledge sharing. I would love a video about which ingredients listed here do you recommend/not recommend to be included in products.
I'm using this video and Paula's Choice dictionary to make a spreadsheet so I can bring it with me so I'm not always referring to my phone to look up ingredients when I'm in Sephora or my local pharmacy. Thank you so much for this beautifully consolidated and easy to digest breakdown of what EVERYONE should be looking for in their head to toe routine :)
Hello omg your content is extraordinary !!!! A true help for people, I am (like many many people ) doing the pony syndrome's skin routine is it possible you do one analysis about that routine ? I would like to know if this new mode of following Korean routines are right please and thanks for share your acknowledgement
I will be making formulation for hyperpigmentation where i will be using, rice, tomato 🍅 and potato as active ingredient. Using microspheres technology. The dosage form will be in aerosol, stick. Mainly waterless stick. How does it sound. It's my project work. Please tell. 🙏
Could you please do a video on which oils are beneficial for dry hair? I've heard that some oils aren't able to penetrate the hair cuticle and can actually end up causing dryness. The ordinary has a good selection of oils that they say can be used on hair, including a hemi-squalane. Just wondering what your thoughts are for squalane on hair. Thanks.
These are many ingredients - wow! My question regards how they interact. How do you tell what is compatible with another? For example which preservative is compatible with which thickener?
Hi, amazing video. For a thicker face cream, what’s the best % to be using? Water % Oils % Butters % Preservative % Emulsifying wax % Any help appreciated!
Thanks u so much for claryifying that cetearyl alcohol is not an alcohol but a wax.. I've been looking everywhere for this info.. Could you please advise which alcohols can actually penetrate the skin and get into the blood stream, if any. Wanted to use phenoxyethanol as preservative but I read it can penetrate the skin cis it's ethanol so.. I'm confused. Thanks..
Would love to hear your opinion on all those expensive "super-products" that stars keep promoting, like Vintner's Daughter Botanical Serum or The Cream by Augustinus Bader . Are they really worth the money? I tried some of the Dr Barbara Sturm products that are also quite popular among celebs, and found it to be mediocre at best. So now Im naturally sceptical of all those hyped products. But if they really are that good I just might buy them. 🧐
4:05 So, what's the difference between Surfactants and emulsifiers, if both bind the oil and water? What makes one be used as a cleanser and the other for leave in formulations?
They are functionally different. Surfactants break up oil and create micelles around it to wash it away. Emulsifiers will hold oil and water close to each other and are meant for leave on applications. They are waxes that facilitate oil and water being together at the same time. A lot of surfactants can act as weak emulsifiers and some emulsifiers can act as weak surfactants but it really depends on many factors within a formula
Hi, could you please recommend some good shampoo and conditioner for hair fall? I thought having alcohol, silicone, paraben, sulfate and minerals in the ingredient list was a bad thing but looking at the list of components you mentioned in the video it doesn't seem all that bad ...
I am in Belgium. We never get the difference made in ingredients' lists between active and non-active ingredients. It is all just listed in one list. No distinction between active & not.
I would really like to see a break down on bath and body works products, such as soaps/fragrances. I love how they smell, but always hear how horrible they are!
I associate oat more as a soothing ingredient and didn't previously consider it to be an exfoliant. Could I be possibly aggravating my skin by adding colloidal oatmeal to body lotion? Is there a preferred ratio or particle size?
Can you please suggest any good cosmetics formulations book for commercial formulations (to be used in Industry) of cosmetics. Formulas needed not theory as I have Science graduate with medicine background.

Blanche Reichert she did a video like 3 weeks ago about parabens.
I had to learn skincare formulation categories as a begginner and i think you are the best teacher ever. I really learned so much. Thumb up👍

Teebaum-Öl-Creme is my go-to for tackling acne and other skin impurities, thanks to its antibacterial properties.

Kenna, could you maybe make a video on some skincare ingredients to stay away from or be cautious of?
Ur the best explainer I can find on here
Hi Ms Kenna, thank you for taking the time to educate us. Please can you comment- what are your thoughts on growth factors in skin care? What types of issues can arise in formulating growth factors?
