    chia* seed oil is awesome and can be used for sensitive skin as well because of the high omega-3 content which has antiinflammatory benefits. To balance oil-production, apple seed oil and amaranth seed oil are also great options. Rosehip oil has also been said to aid with balancing oily skin because of its vitamin A content. Broccoli seed oil has a "dry oil" feel to it and it's often used in hair products to give that silicone finish and feel. It's a great addition to body oils and facial oils if you want to lessen the greasy touch. For brightening, any oil derived from fruit seeds are helpful, especially papaya, guava, apple, raspberry, cranberry, etc.

I am a pharmacist and I am so pleasant that I am actually revising all the information we had in "industrial pharmacy" and "pharmaceutics" moduals about topical formulations with you ... your information are absolutely correct and you are presenting them in a very simple and easy to remember way ... I wish I discovered you earlier when i was at uni ... but any way i wish you all the best

    If you like actives, you can add oil soluable vitamin C, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate. It's expensive, but appears to have better penetration and is less irritating than water soluable L-ascorbic acid.

    • @44DHernandez
      @44DHernandez 4 года назад +10

      @@empressaura7736 Not sure if you're asking me or Tara... but I'm personally not familiar with that preservative. However, two things to note: it is generally discouraged to put essential oils on your face as they can be very sensitizing and irritating to the skin on your face (especially citrus which can increase the chances of sunburn); and if your product has no water in it, there is no need for a preservative as oil is not prone to growing mold and bacteria. It is, however, prone to rancidity, so adding vitamin E (an antioxidant) can extend the life of your oil.

    Fractionated Coconut oil are the distillation of Coconut oil where medium fatty acids chains are separated out collected. The 2 main fatty acid chains are Caprylic acid and Capric acid but you'll likely get some other types of fatty acids in there as well. Capric/Caprylic Triglyceride is a specialized esterification of just Capric acid and Caprylic Acid. Simplied answer is Fractionated Coconut Oil contains Caprylic and Capric acids along with other fatty acids but CCT contains ONLY the esters of Capric and Caprylic Acids.

    To answer the question, if the facial oil is completely anhydrous and not a water-in-oil emulsion, preservatives are not needed. Micro-organisms need water to grow, and can’t survive in a completely anhydrous product, BUT if the facial oil contains a lot of natural plant oils, then they will definitely need an antioxidant to keep them from going rancid.

      @@TaraLeee Of course! ☺️ Another thing to consider is that mixed tocopherols are the best antioxidants because they protect the formula from oxidation and don’t add fragrance, whereas tocopherol acetate only protects the skin from oxidative free radicals. Resinous rosemary extract will also protect the formula from oxidation, but it has a very strong rosemary aroma that may be unwanted.

    Hey Tara, I've read on a suppliers website that the Caprylic Capric TriGlycerides are not the same as fractionated coconut oil. The ester has gone through a further process than the vegetable oil which removes some of the fatty acids, and gives it a different feel. I'm keen to buy some and try out in my formulas

    • @PlumCrazyHomesteader
      @PlumCrazyHomesteader Год назад

      Essentially, a face cream is a water and oil emulsion (approx. 10-25% oils) with particular care given to the comedigenic rating of the oils (0-2 is good, 3-5 causes acne breakouts). A body butter is often anhydrous (100% oils/no water) or might also be an emulsion (approx. 40%+ oils) with a much higher oil content than a face cream and can use a wider variety of oils (often cheaper, too) than for the face.

      I don't think so. As long as it is oil soluble and you are only using oil soluble ingredients in your product it shouldn't need preserved. You only need to preserve products that contain water or may get water in them.

    • @Socal420
      @Socal420 3 года назад +1

      Magnesium flakes and water actually is magnesium oil. Oil is a misnomer for the product and I’m not sure why they call it that. You can add it to creams and lotions and add emulsifying wax also and it will mix in. You will have to use a preservative though! For body butter, you’d have to add the magnesium in super small amounts, but I’m not sure if you’d need emulsifying wax, you will need the preservative here though as well. If you made the mixture thick enough it should hold up. Good luck! (I own a CBD edibles and health and beauty company and make a ton of products like that, I didn’t want you to think I just pulled that out of thin air lol)
