Did the Bourbon Trail in the early 80’s. Hardly any people at all the distilleries. Got to Buffalo Trace, a gentleman came out and asked “you guys want to go on a tour”? Sure we said! Well jump in my golf cart! It was Mr Elmer T Lee himself! What a a great time!!
I quit drinking 9 years ago but I’ve still always been fascinated with how all liquor is made. Even made homemade whine when I was 18 or 19, right before I quit drinking, which was around the same time. Used pantyhose lol
Good for you man! Yeah for me sometimes I wish you could sometimes remove the alcohol from bourbon. As I like exploring the tastes, history and chemistry of whiskey. And I get some shit hangovers if I try and do that too much.😃 But unfortunately whiskey is the art of making ethanol taste delicious 🤦🏻♂️.
I took this tour in January 2024 during the cold snap. I live in South Florida. The morning we arrived it was 6 degrees. There weren't many people and I was happy to be doing this during the off-season despite the frigid temps. Great experience. Our tour guide was great. If I recall correctly, it was the only tour (out of all the distilleries we visited) that was free. By the way, Alphonso's Taco Shop was right around the corner and they had a great breakfast.
Good to know, always on the look out for good tacos. Yeah it can get crazy in summer. And I think your right is one of the only free tours and tastings
Buffalo Trace Bourbon or the tour. The are definitely rated. I will admit there lower level stuff is average at best. But if you can get it at MSRP it’s hard to beat a $36 10 year Eagle Rare

Wow! That’s a good story! Getting shown around by the legend himself! Be good to go back in time and have him sign some bottles 😀
