I wouldn’t pay anything over retail for allocated bourbon. Not when I can find other bottles that are more than likely better and easier to find/cheaper.
Totally a good logic to stick to brotha! Cheers to ya
I’m the same way and where I live nobody will pay those crazy prices unless they are tourists. We get a lot of bourbon hunters.
Then you will never experience some of the better bourbons that are made. His price points are reasonable.
@@mikemattis1204 I beg to differ. Price a better bourbon does not make. I’ve had serious high end bourbon that’s not worth the money.
I’m early enough into bourbon where I need to compare (2-3 years). I have a Blantons & EH Taylor Small Batch. And I’ve been hunting for over a year. I know allocation day but work and shlt.
On a positive note I get at all the Eagle Rare I want.
I was lucky enough to grab an EHT BP a couple weeks ago at $69.95, but that was camping out for about 5 hours waiting for a new ABC store to open in my area. Still haven't seen a straight rye around here.
Had to be a fun time though talking to some other bourbon drinkers though
@@EverydayDrinker it was pouring down rain, but thankfully I made friends with some folks that had a canopy set up, so I could get out of the weather. Between that, the company, and a big thermos of coffee it wasn't too bad at all.
I spent $130 on C923. No regrets. But admittedly it’s basically been a unicorn in Indy area
You enjoy it? That’s all that matters! Cheers to ya!
I paid 160 for the bottle nd no regrets! Nearly 14 years old 133 proof. Best ECBP ever made period.
can’t find a bottle now nd if i do its over 280.
Btw try to get a Bookers chapter 7 !
Few years later it will go for 600 .
Best bookers little book till now! Cheers
Gotta give you some NJ love. Love alot of the other bourbon content creators but man, it's a different beast up here in the Northeast since we're beer and wine country. Snagged a Stagg for 120. Glad to know it seems like I didnt make a horrible decision.
Yea man we get some good drops here but most of the time it’s just crazy crazy pricing
Thanks for keeping simple with your content.
Cheers!
Good insight. Difficult subject as pricing varies by geography and of course personal preferences. Well done.
Thanks Jon! I know it’s a soft subject but it’s one so many people have questions about
Excellent video. Best to date. Just subscribed, keep up the good work, the bar has been set.
Thanks Jim! Glad you enjoyed the show! Cheers to ya
We just bought a Stagg for 220. was hoping to get it for less but hard to get so we decided to purchase it. Not disappointed.
Just found your channel , good video. I'll subscribe and check out your older videos.
Thanks brotha! Much appreciated!
I am close to where you are on these prices, but wouldn’t quite go as high on the standard BT and ER (limit those to $30 and $45 respectively). I would go up to $80 on the Blanton’s though.
Cheers Dustin!
Hey Nathan. I will be in Jersey next week. Could you share where you purchased Blanton's and Eagle Rare. Here in Pennsylvania it's very difficult to located either.. any info would be appreciated. Great videos as always. Definitely getting my education on allocation. Thanks
So sorry I didn’t see this till now. Bottle kings sometimes have them as well as Joe Canals but it’s hard to find
As always you do you but I live in a controlled state so I’ll only ever pay MSRP which is fine for me. I would never pay secondary for any bottle it’s just alcohol. And what I can get is fine and satisfies my needs. I will say it’s a shame there are people out there who are willing to gouge their customers or others.
It definitely stinks when stores are out here just price gouging everyone
Hey Nathan, I appreciate your thoughts on these bottles. Definitely helpful to have an idea of what’s out there and the MSRP and what some may consider a reasonable increase. Like you say, it’s up to us to make the decision from there. Thanks
Cheers Robert! Glad you found my input helpful. Like I said not trying to tell people what to spend but just what I think is a reasonable price that won’t break the bank if you have the funds for it
I have yet to try a Weller or an EHT. I’ve only ever seen it in 1 store. They have the unicorn status out here in Ca.
I'll just drink my $35 bottle of Russells Reserve 10 year and call it a day. I'd love to try the 13 but the price has gone way too high.
Enjoy it because the 10 year is definitely a great pour. Actually had it tonight haha
Perfect. Very useful content. You covered a lot of territory. I have most of these bottles and agree with all of your comments.
Cheers!
Thanks Will! I tried my best
I also recently saw a bunch of the CC in a local store for $55, and I walked away from it because I couldn’t see paying over $50 for a low proof Canadian product.
I've only run across Caribou Crossing *one time* and they wanted 400.
I picked up a bottle of CC for $65… is it worth it? Probably not. It is really nothing special tbh. Does it look great on my shelf and function as a conversation piece? Definitely. I will not be picking up another hahah
Have to go up to 300 for the pappy 12. Also up to 800 for the 23. Can resell for nice profit for my bourbon budget
I got my Stagg Jr for $70. And I got lucky and got a Lot B for $140. Great video and keep up the great content!
Another great video, but please tell me where in NJ you get Weller for those prices! I've been lucky enough to pick up just about everything else at your prices or below (except for Lot B, of course), but Weller is pretty elusive in Union County.
Weller SR I got for $40 in East Brunswick. The Antique 107 I’ve seen as well in East Brunswick for $80-$90. My full proof I did a trade for and the Weller 12 hits bottle king every so often
Found a Woodford 124 proof 300 bucks. I had to pass. Also saw a Jack 12 for 600. I definitely had to pass!
Now that’s just ridiculous
I have never spent secondary prices for any bourbon or rye. I have paid over MSRP for a few. A $79.99 bottle of Blanton's was added to my collection. That statement cannot be made about scotch as I have paid secondary prices for far too many bottles.
Cheers brotha!
Great video - you really ran down a huge list there. I still think Stagg Jr is my favorite bottle period - but I agree… $200 is my absolute max on that… and that’s probably my max on any bottle period. Pure taste - those ECBPs and especially some of the EC Private Barrels I’ve had are some of the best whiskey on the planet I think
Facts! $200 for an exceptional batch of Stagg I think I’d go for as well
I’d do $200 on Stagg Jr. any day, it’s my favorite bourbon.
Totally ok! Cheers brotha!
Love the video nathan and thanks for the max you would pay thoughts but i barley ever find those bourbons at those prices everything is tripple the price! But i get it. I actually go $200 over msrp if its a rare bottle worth getting like your stagg jr etc. but cool video bro
Maybe if everyone stopped buying secondary and over msrp, prices would be where they're supposed to be
Good video! I'm in ohio and these prices are about right! Like you said if it's something you've never had pay few extra bucks ! Why not. Trading is def the route to go on a lot of good bottles. Love the shelves for the bourbon. where did you get those?
Hey brotha! Glad you enjoyed the show. I actually got them off of Amazon. I think it was labeled 5 shelved book shelf haha
I think your prices are pretty on point. I have a few bottles I’m looking for that I might pay a markup but definitely not secondary, some of those are ridiculous. EH, Eagle rare, Stagg etc are hard to come by in the Dallas area. Might be worth a trip somewhere… is there anywhere (state/city) where these are readily available most of the time?
I wish I could tell you a specific area where you can find an abundance of these bottles but it’s just not possible I don’t think
Just grabbed a Weller FP for 120 today and this video made me feel better about it 😂
Great video and honesty. I spent my all time high on the new makers cellar aged. $320. Is a bourbon worth that? Prob not, but I've seen one in person after hunting at about 50 stores so... 😊
I was fortunate enough to try the cellar aged and I do think its worth up to $275 but nothing more
Get to know your favorite bars owner. There you can pick off some pretty good finds at his or hers cost. I picked up two Full Proofs for 80 skins. Also, here in Dallas you can find Weller Green for 25 skins at Specs and Goody Goody.
Allocated can be had at retail, patience, doing the homework, putting in time to build relationships and a little luck
And I see you have a bottle of Early Times Bottle and Bond Blue label to your right. I'm in South East PA and I can't find that in PA, NJ or DEL! Where did you find it???
Had a buddy from Indiana send it to me
I set my Eagle Rare price all the way up to $70 at this point. I know for a fact it probably isn't even better than something like Rare Breed, let alone $20 better, but I just want to try it. It is virtually impossible to find up here. Hell, I don't think I've seen Buffalo Trace up here in over a year.
I’ve dialed it back quite a bit but these are the prices I’ve paid recently
Paid $189 for Vans Winkle 12, and it’s really not much different from Weller 12. Snagged a CYPB and Full Proof for $55, but they wanted $99 last drop.
Last drop I picked up three Stagg Jr in the $69 range
EH Taylor: Small Batch $49, Single Barrel $79, Four grain $79, Barrel proof $99
Cheers to ya brotha!
Where do you live? That’s all super cheap!
@@christianslater8980 Upstate NY. Good relationships at a few stores.
We are pretty close on our math, and some of the lessons learned. I just can not get my hands on that EH Taylor BP. It is my white whale. I see it, over and over, usually around $399 and up. I have seen it and passed at $299, $329, hoping to see it for $249 being the number that’s in my head. Good video, cheers pal, and I’ll keep my eyes out for a 7/7 dump date.
Unfortunately, EHT BP isn’t worth 250 either
250 is not bad to scratch a first bottle itch for EHTBP. You can decide after it is empty.
@@williamwright7485 just got to keep hunting, working. Cheers
Thanks brotha! Appreciate ya! If it’s your white whale snag at $250 for sure
Man I guess I’ve got SUPER lucky with the Stagg jr. Found my first one at msrp in Virginia (23b) I did wait in line in winter for like 6 hours. And the backup for 100 in Maryland on my way to ocean city (23c). If I can find Stagg jr at 150 or less I’d probably buy it every time. At 100 or less. No doubt.
I will say if everything I have. RR13, and Stagg jr is all I’ve ever paid over msrp. RR13 I got for 200 flat, 107 after tax for my backup Stagg. All other 40 bottles I have I was at (or below) msrp
My top 4 (RR13/15, Stagg jr, Willett 10yr purple top) I’d go over msrp for without a doubt. More than what your video says but not to secondary prices. And if I ever find a RR single rickhouse I’d probably go above msrp just to have the full Russell lineup lol. I’m sure it’s fantastic too
Antique and full proof are nearly identical ( 7 proof points, and +/- NCF, both 7 years old). Neither is anywhere near WLW ( barrel proof, 12-15 + years)
Both are great pours though
Where did you buy your display cases?
It's just Stagg, but I agree that over $150 it's a pass. I see it around $250-$300 and let the owners know that's silly.
insane prices!
hey another great video. It is a hard subject to tackle and I think you did a great job. I agree with most of you pricing for secondary. But location to location can mess that up. You are so close to your 5 K I know you will hit that soon. can't wait. and great giveaway. I am getting closer to 1K and have a EH Taylor giveaway. I bet you will get to 5 K before my 1K. lol cheers brotha.
It’s a hard subject for sure but wanted to tread the waters lightly haha
Do store picks in general if any of these raise the value ?
For most of them yes
Great video. I try to not spend more then 20$ over MSRP on anything. But to each their own cheers!
Cheers Steve!
I wouldn't pay no more then 10 or 15% above retail.
Finally someone trying to knock down secondary!
Im trying to do the good mans work here!
How you in NJ and route for the eagles? 😂
Cause I’m from right outside of Philly
Van Winkle Lot B is a great bottle but totally agree with the $200. Don’t go paying $1000 for this you would be disappointed
100%!
Where would you find one for $200? Anyone selling 2nd hand would be way over that. And for $200 anyone who knows anything about the bottle would buy it instantly if they didn’t have one. Or am I off? You have a much better chance of finding Stagg jr and that is $200 2nd hand. I think $400+ would be a good price for it as a special occasion bottle considering 2nd hand is over $1k.
If you live in the middle of the country you have more options, living deep in south Florida, we take what we can get. It doesn't matter to me if I have to pay more for what I want, I didn't flip burgers for a living.
Where can you find a Buffalo Trace Store pick in Jersey???
Jackson wine and spirits had one a year ago. Adelphias in East Brunswick had one a couple weeks ago. I feel like Eagle Rare picks are easier to come by lol!
What would you spend on a willett purple top
Depends on the year and barrel honestly. I wouldn’t break the bank on it though
If i lived in areas were we can somehow get allocated bottles at retail or slightly above i would do what i can to get some bottles. Those maximum prices you said per bottle is laughable in california. Every single store is way above secondary. At best there some stores that bundle, so you can get allocated bottles at msrp but will get stuck buying other bottles you don't want.
I wish the liquor stores near me wouls stop ripping off the locals. Place up the street wants $200 for regular Blantons 😡
You say in the video you’re in Jersey and you won’t pay more than $75 for Blantons. Where in the tristate are you getting Blantons at that price? Can’t find Blantons anywhere near that price.
I have almost every bottle on your list. Hard to really say anything on the prices as while they are hard to not even sold in my state they are also all at msrp even the store picks.
While everyone's taste is different if it is a bottle you really wanted or tatered over and you have the money go get it and to heck what other people say or think , it is your money.
The ridiculous secondary , museum stores and FOMO can make people do silly things.
This video is a great reminder not too.
I am one of those RR13 fans who passed on getting up to a case of batch 5 at $150 each as I like it a lot but , for me, it is not a $150 bottle. Grey Label Seagrass , Irishman 17 cask strength, Redbreast 15 ($115-$150 around my region) and so many more I rather have. I scored an Octomore for 140 recently.
Saw an EH Taylor BP for $300 and have never even heard of it coming to my state even when asking owners, distributer and being active on most social media groups in my state. Still passed but FOMO stinks 🤣. The only EHT we see are a few times a year we get flooded with small batch and SiB so you end up picking up a few or a case a year at $49 & $69 respectively. OWA are barrel picks only and normally never for sale to non corporate accounts. Have only seen them on a shelf once in last 5 years. We actually had a drop last month and got 2 small batch and 4 SiB. The EHT Rye I prefer Sagamore 8 year but I can find that and EHT Rye is impossible almost to get here.
Fortunately EC BP are always easy to get and stays on shelf for awhile so can get back ups easily. the MM wood series only become easy to get starting with the BRT-01.
OF Blues are finally on the shelves now in MA for last 8 months. I pass as not an OF fan. Rather hunt for a Stagg when they drop
You got a new sub love your content.
Thanks Brent! Glad you enjoyed the show
Russells 13 is 140 msrp it went up a lot from last year
It’s crazy how much it jumped in a single year
I’ve been lucky enough to find some of those bottles, decent prices and then of course, some of my overpay a little bit because I wanted them. But to each their own 😎🥃cheers
To each their own Mike is right! Cheers brotha!
Great video man! It'd be a little better with a Cowboys hat though
Where are you shopping, your prices are crazy
I’m not saying that’s what stores are offering. What I’m saying is that is what I find as a fair price if you were to come across it
I type this with the utmost respect but really I want you to buy all this bottles for me at your price and I will drive you your place and give you the cash. Cause up here in MN all this bottles go for secondary pricing in the store. So please enlighten me on where you buy your bourbon .
lol I wish I could say ive seen all these bourbons at these prices. I have though been very fortunate and bought most of these at MSRP. However I made this video to showcase what these bourbons are worth in my opinion. I don't think these bourbons are worth the secondary prices that they are going for and I don't want people to spend an absurd amount of money to just be disappointed. Cheers!
Impossible to find Blantons ANYWHERE in Jersey for $75. Impossible
Bottle Kings will get them and they go for $65
Which blue lodge are you beholden?
I am not a Mason brotha. What makes you think this?

Russell's 13 is delicious I was able to try it at a bar. I would pay $200 for it myself! I have 2 Weller FP's that are my local store pick, had to use a lot of rewards points to get it for MSRP so in theory I paid more. My local store just dropped some Weller SR for 30 with points... I wont pay more than MSRP for Blanton's or Eagle Rare myself, but they are easier to get with rewards at my local store.
MSRP and not a dime more for me. I'm in an ABC state so... Just picked up my George T Stagg for $124.99
In Jersey
cheers!
@ let me know I can take it to my spot
Haha $225 for eh full proof? You will never find it for that. I want to live where you live and find these bottles at the prices you mentioned. In Wisconsin we are almost double what you said. Usually we are 3x-4x on normal high end, and super higher end 5x-7x msrp.
You would be extremely surprised how much better Old Rip 10 is than Lot B in a blind. Lot B is thin.
I’ve heard mixed reviews on both but I’m sure both are good in their own right
@EverydayDrinker Old Rip is less about the oak and more about mouth feel and flavor concentration. Lot B is more about sweet oak. Back in the day, Old Rip was readily available. Lot B took a little bit of searching around, but you could get it,
I think your pricing is spot on. Let me know where you are finding bottles for these prices though lol! I'd kill for a $175 Stagg.
Cheers to ya! Just passed on a Stagg for $99 in NJ because well I’m that guy who hopes it will go to a home for someone to enjoy rather then sell for secondary because I have 2 bottles already
I am in central Cali and can’t even get it here
You should open up a store if you can find those bourbons for those prices lol
True!
Pappy 12 is good but not great
thank you very helpful
Glad it helped
Wow look at you you’re so cool. With you in NJ I know this is CAPPPPP
How you figure?
great video
Just picked up a WFP for $69
Great price!
What?? MSRP.. never pay more for secondary prices.. you are just making the people that make profits from them incentive to raise the prices..
We all want prices to be MSRP but in todays world it is 99.99% impossible for that to happen and turn back around. Im not advocating for secondary prices, I’m not advocating for people to spend their money. All Im giving is my perception on if a bottle is worth a little bit more than what MSRP is. Cheers!
While I agree on a lot of what you are saying these are worth, your pricing just isn’t realistic in today’s market. Most people will never find these bottles for the prices you’re saying are top dollar. Not even close. Unfortunately the market is what the market is, and allocated bottles are going for more than this and if you want the bottles you are going to have to pay or wait
I find this happening a lot in RUclips videos about whiskey… “I wouldn’t pay any more than $XXX… “ really? Where? On what planet do you fine these prices outside of a raffle or special event?
I dont even have to watch the video.. you should only spend msrp. Thats it.

I’m a newbie to the bourbon community and I just happened to bumped onto one of your videos yesterday and had to subscribe.
This morning this video popped up and it was very informative. Very useful for someone new to the community.
I’ve was lucky enough to find a Blanton’s for $67 in my area but I don’t think I can spend more than $100 for it. I will say the same for Eagle Rare, especially since it goes for $35. I did pay $70 for but that was before I knew what my local store sold Eagle Rare for.
Frank so glad you enjoy the content! I hope you stick around for the long haul!
I can get the Stagg Jr for 125
nice!
You’re telling me if you saw a lot B for $250 or Pappy 15 for $350 you’d not get them? 😂
Dude where are you finding van winkle for 200-400? Keep dreaming.
Never said I find it for that price just what I think it's maximum worth is
I'll go as high as $150 for Stagg
i feel like an asshole for opening my 7/7 dumpdate blantons now

Your Pappy prices are ridiculous no store will sell them that low when the secondary is so high.
My unopened dump date is 8/11, sorry!

👌🏼🤔I appreciate you stressing, that it’s “your opinion” but honestly why do any of these channels feel they can tell someone what to pay ESPECIALLY, if you literally have a slew of allocated bottles😆 🙄you guys have to say what you’d pay HAVING NEVER HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE one of these bottles, not from a PRIVILEGED stand point. Furthermore EVERYONE has different taste buds, what your telling someone NOT TO PAY a certain dollar amount, I may feel taste TREMENDOUSLY superior to something you may like. I think the bourbon circle should just stop with ALL THE SPOILED WHINING and just enjoy bourbon and let people enjoy how they want to enjoy, because NONE OF CAN TAKE YOUR OPINIONS TO THE REGISTER‼️🤷🏼
I understand where you’re coming from. 100%. But I just like you use my hard earned money to get these bottles. I’ve been fortunate enough to get all of them at retail. I’m just trying to say that if I didn’t get this bottle at retail this is the most I think the bourbon in the bottle is worth is all. Cheers to ya
I don’t buy over priced Alcohol
And that’s a great thing to stick to! Cheers to ya Joe!
non sense. cant get any of those for those prices today.
Retail, stop the madness.
Your van winkle/pappy max prices are laughable. Lot 12 year at max $200? people will be rushing out the door to pay $400 for it. pappy 15 for $300 is also a big joke. MSRP for $120 vs on a shelf at $300 will sell out equally as fast as possible.
im not saying thats what the prices are. All I was saying is what I think the bottles are worth. I don't and will never promote secondary prices and if for some reason you or someone else sees theses bottles for the prices I said in the video thats what I personally would max pay. Cheers!
Lol this guy is salty about over paying.
