This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.

I found the solution. No, it's NOT the K cups. Run it without the K cup, and it still tastes like plastic. It's also NOT the water tank, (for those who are convinced that's the problem). The cause, is the 5 feet of silicone hoses inside the machine. Disassemble it, and smell the hoses. You will immediately see that's where the taste is coming from. Vinegar, or lemon juice isn't going to make it leach out of the hoses any faster. I tried them all. It did not make any difference. If you remove the lower front wrap around cover, you can see the hoses. I removed the cover, and laid my new coffee maker on it's side, over a floor vent. The warm air from the furnace, will drive the gasses out of the hoses. After a few days, I ran a few cups of water through it. (Water stays in the hoses between uses, so you have to run a few cups through it to change it). Almost all of the plastic smell, and taste is in plain water is gone, (>95%). If you brew anything now, it tastes fine. Probably a few more days over the vent, and it would be 100% gone. I'll leave the cover off it while use it for now, so it can finish off gassing. This is NOT what I expected. They should not be selling these, if they can't make it so it works properly out of the box.

would blowing a hair dryer on the tubing work to get the gasses out?

Thank you so much, i tried it and it worked ! The plastic smell didnt go away after countless vinegar cycles.. but when i opened the machine to expose the rubber pipes to air (i put a whole day under direct sun exposure), i run a cycle with alcohol, a rince cycle, then a baking soda cycle, rince cycle again, and the taste is gone.. and now i let the machine open to "gas out"..

How do you clean out hard desposites from your keurig coffee maker

  • @alwatson4352
    @alwatson4352 5 лет назад +11

After trying your cleaning method the plastic taste still remained, so I used an entire gallon of Heinz extra strong "cleaning" white vinegar at full strength (undiluted) through the Keurig. After cleaning the reservoir with soap and water and running three reservoirs of water through the machine the plastic taste finally went away. If the plastic taste should return I'll toss this machine in the garbage. I cannot recommend a Keurig coffee maker because of the trouble I went through to get rid of the plastic taste.

Let me pose a question... I have a brand new Keurig Supreme Plus. Bought it at Costco. Didn't use vinegar, just ran a few cups of water to flush the system out the box. Brewed a cup of coffee and it tasted burnt. But I'm not too worried with the taste because the brewing technique can be adjusted to accommodate the type of coffee you are using. My bigger concern is that when you lift the lever and you get close to the machine, you can smell a rubber/plastic burn odor. It's coming directly from inside the machine. My question is how does running vinegar thru your machine negate the fact that the plastic/rubber components are emitting a smell after each brew cycle from the heat of the brewer??...

Our new Keurig made coffee with an awful chemical taste. We found this video and just followed the instructions to the letter. We ran a full 48 oz of white vinegar (6 cups) through our new 2.0 Keuerig. After that we had to run 2 complete tanks of clean water through to get rid of all the vinegar flavor. Now, the coffee tastes great. We used the included Kcups as well as our own coffee. We are so relieved because the coffee had been undrinkable. We'd bought it to use for a small New Year's gathering and it was ready to use just in time. Guests drank seconds and thirds. As did we. We like the system and are so glad it actually makes a good cup of coffee now.

This method of using high quality distilled vinegar did not work to remove the odor of burned wires from our brand new coffee maker, even after several attempts. All of these products are made overseas and it makes me wonder what the hell are they using to produce them? We need to get to the bottom to make sure these unregulated products are safe to use.

  • @samclement754

For me it's the K Supreme Plus that has this plastic flavor problem. No other Keurig machine has ever smelled like plastic to me. The inside of the water reservoir smells strongly of plastic, and when you lift up the thing to put a kcup in, that whole apparatus also smells strongly of plastic.
And when you brew a cup of coffee, that same awful plastic flavor overwhelms the coffee. There's just something wrong with this model. Not sure what they did wrong. Everything else about the machine is great! But I want my coffee to taste like coffee, not plastic.
But my husband couldn't smell or taste it, so it's only certain people who can.
So I went and bought a different one, and that one smells and tastes fine.

It's not just Kuerig. I just bought a Hamilton Beach (in the face of many complaints about the plastic chemical taste, but there were many more that didn't have the problem, thinking I'd get a good one) and it too has a terrible taste! I don't even know whether to bother trying the vinegar or just take it back. I never had this problem with the good ol' Mr. Coffee. Why must this be an issue in a single serve maker? Even have a $10.00 cheapo that makes a great pot of coffee with no off taste. Is it just the single serve ones?

    • @nikki-qb7iq

+Sandra Krytus I got the Hamilton Beach one and it made everything taste absolutely disgusting. I returned it and got a Keurig instead but it seems that this one tastes plastic-y too, although to a much lower extent. I've never had this type of issue with plastic bottles or coffee makers, not sure what it is about the single serve. I'm hoping the Keurig will go away after a while, I really don't want to do the vinegar thing because with my luck it will just make my coffee taste like vinegar instead :(

I've tried absolutely everything prescribed here or in alternative forums and nothing diminished the burnt plastic taste and smell. Keurig customer service was of zero assistance, in fact they claim to have never heard this contention before (sure). I had purchased my machine in Costco so I just returned it and Keurig can deal with it. With the past three Keurigs I've owned, I was able to remove the plastic taste with thorough cleaning and vinegar cycles, but this new one which was made in Malaysia was unresponsive to cleaning.

Ok I have now tried *everything*. I've tried the specially designed Keurig cleansers. I've tried white distilled vinegar. I've tried even gone so far as to run through 2 reservoirs of white distilled vinegar through, each time leaving it sit overnight after an initial vinegar flush or two. Every time, after about 2 weeks, this really bad, almost cardboard-like taste comes back (and it effects everything ... tea, coffee and even hot apple cider). I was using a filter, but I've tried running with out one. No luck. I only get about 2 weeks of good tasting beverages before the bad taste comes back. We have very soft water in our area, so I know it can't be a scale thing (I have an electric tea pot that I've had for 4 years and so far have never needed to descale it). What could be causing this awful taste and could I have ended up with a dud? I love the Keurig but it's such a hassle to constantly clean to remove this taste.

dbonoma2 Chemical taste wasn't the issue for me, it was more stale coffee taste. I solved the problem ... turns out it was the part where the K-Cups go in ... I had to take it out and give it a good cleaning separate from the rest of the unit. I haven't had the taste issue in months now.

I have done all the vinegar fixes, soaked the parts overnight and had no luck at all. I've had to stop using it. I complained and Keurig sent me a new one (with minimal questions asked, which tells me they know it is a real problem) and of course the new one is just as bad or worse. I've cleaned it once before as in instructions, had a cup of hot choc that tasted awful of chemicals, so I washed it twice and tried coffee-same prominent nasty flavor in the coffee. I got a deal but it is still way too much to pay for crap. I don't want to pay anything for crap. I'm just very disappointed and I think paying such a price for one of these shouldn't mean so much extra care before having a decent cup of what you're paying for. I'll try the vinegar but I do that for normal coffee makers that don't have this problem so I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic. I'm not going to try more than that to have it work as it should have come. Already feeling like a waste of my time and energy when I got it because I need energy quick lol

The bigger question is, why is Keurig distributing coffee makers that produce bad plastic/chemical tasting water? We shouldn't have to try so hard to mask or resolve this problem. It doesn't matter what kind of coffee you use, how long you brew it, what temperature or other options the machines provide, if it can't heat water without making it taste like plastic they are useless. The plummeting quality of the makers to try to save a few pennies has ruined this company.

dbonoma2 what I fear is ingesting all that plastic will lead to cancer and/or impotence down the line. Who knows what nastiness hot water coming through plastic tubing and mechanics will produce.

I used to have an older version of the Keurig single brewer that worked really well, really frustrated that this keeps happening across the board and you're right, there is no excuse for this type of problem.

With every cup you drink, you are going impotent with various plastic chemicals you are ingesting dissolved in the hot water.
You won't be able to get it up after one year of drinking that crap.

***** Only sipped one coffee drink, currently processing water through it now. You're probably right, no telling how harmful the shit in this plastic is.

A lot of what's dissolved in the water, you can't even taste. Your balls are under assault with this plastic residue.

Plastic? Mine tastes like lemons. Blech. And it's a Keurig 2.0 (or K560) machine.

These are the worst coffee makers ever. Don't fall for the "easy Fix". Tried everything from vinegar to alcohol to remedy this, problem .. after three returns finally gave .. also concerned that the plastic used to make these coffe makers might be toxic.. just awful

Its the kcups ,You can not get rid of the plastic taste because the kcups are made of polypropylene it's the same thing that make ping pong balls out of, you can't wash it out because you're replacing it with a fresh new plasticy tasting kcup with ever cup you make, the only way to get rid of the plastic taste is
    1 unplug your Keurig
2 remove any water that's inside
    3 pick up Keurig
    4 place in trash can
5 buy a real coffee machine

It'a not the k-cups. You can use the exact same k-cups in a Keurig brewer and get the plastic taste, but not get that same taste in a different brewer. It's the machine.

No, it's NOT the K cups. Run it without the K cup, and it still tastes like plastic. It's also NOT the water tank, for those who are convinced that's the problem. The cause is the 5 feet of silicone hoses inside the machine. Disassemble it, and smell the hoses. You will immediately see that's where the taste is coming from. The only way to get rid of the plastic taste, is time. A little vinegar , or lemon juice isn't going to make it leach out of the hoses any faster.

Nothing works! The coffee out of my Keurig tastes disgusting. Can't get rid of the plastic smell and taste, it even permeates the air around it. Customer service is useless. Thanks for trying....

A plastic tank will have a plastic taste. Period.

it's not the tank........it's coming from within the machine and seeping into the coffee.
I think the water is so hot that the plastic get absorbed into the coffee and hence the awful taste.
