I got an M1 when they first came out, upgrading from a WiiM amp. Why? It was the only product which was: 1) Blessed with higher quality sound, which brings so much enjoyment to music for me. It was a really big step up from the WiiM amp, which is good but lacks so much in an a/b test. 2) Fairly movie focused, with the virtual surround, which isn’t as good as a 5.1 system, but better than a very good soundbar imo. There’s the new denon home amp now, but I’m really pleased with my choice. I love the marantz sound and i much prefer the look of it. In fact, I bought a second identical setup for my bedroom too since I was so happy! The only letdown is HEOS and lack of room correction which would kick it to a new level imo. I did think of buying WiiM products and getting audio through them for that reason .. but haven’t tried it yet. Paired with b&w 707s3’s and a sub.
I just want to point out, the opening dialog was directly to me. I am 50, have hearing loss, heard a decent sound system and realized I could hear more clarity if I improved my sound systems in my life. I am fortunate enough that I can buy decent systems (relative statement I know), so I have rough sketched 5k usd for tower speakers, 2k for amp and 1k for dac, this will be a 2.1 listening system, no TV. I can dedicate another fund for a dolby atmos cinema system the following year. Probably svs Titans etc... Watching this has alerted me that it's more than hardware, and Operating systems are something to be aware of. I don't need one OS to rule them all, or consolidate services, but my consumer advocacy journey has been eye opening trying to figure out what I think I need...I have certainly had your channel in my rotation to learn more about what interests me. I appreciate your guidance and opinions, and enjoy the channel. Thank you
I couldn’t wait and went out and bought the Marantz model M1 yesterday. Boy is it powerful. I could only go to 50% volume. I need to wear ear defenders 😀
@@homecinemaking397 I am still watching this video while texting for the first time. I will use Klipsch 8000F tomorrow. For today I used the JBL tlx 14 I bought in 1991. The sound is similar to cinema 50 but boy does it scale. You mention WiiM ultras screen is a plus point then why not add this to the M1 get best of both worlds. I appreciate the time you take out to make these videos. It’s great good on you.
I feel if everything had solid Google connect capabilities it would be so much simpler, I connected an old Chromecast system with a new Google hub and wiim amp in a flash and had the whole downstairs floor in sync with Google Home 🙏
@@homecinemaking397 so you can add the wiim mini to the m1 and have access to room correction like on the ultra? Do you have to use the wiim dac then or can you still process the sound through the m1?
The upper gain setting on the Fosi seems to add distortion, it's definitely better without in your demo. I really liked the tonality on the SVS. Now here are the two curveballs which you may have missed: 1. The Fosi is not the best match or even value for the WiiM Ultra, why? Cos you still need to add speakers, and yet more cabling. I don't know if it's available in SA, or if you stock/import it, but to my mind the best match for the WiiM Ultra would be an active powered speaker like the Acoustic Energy AE1. And they look utterly gorgeous. That to me would be the perfect system. 2. If someone is spending a substantial amount of time watching movies/TV as well as music, then the Marantz Model M1 is HANDS DOWN THE WINNER. Why? It does Dolby Digital, so you don't have to switch to PCM audio out on your TV, and it has a Virtual/Surround Mode (whatever it's called) which from what I read works brilliantly for movies/TV. So it's the WiiM Ultra or Model M1 which stand out here, the SVS simply has to go. But to me the Fosi is not part of the WiiM Ultra solution. Great video as always, and the time you spend is appreciated.
I tried and returned the wiim ultra. It sounds like what it is. A $325 streamer. You get what you pay for and it's nothing special. I find the node to be noticeably better.

Please give evidence that the Sonos Amp is no. 1 selling? I think you're pulling finger. And by all reviews I read it's OK, not great. You're better off with a Bluesound Node. Technologically it's also a bit dated.

@@Left-is-right-8192 M1 is great👌 if Wiim brings us a combo of the Wiim ultra and better amp it will be a winner.

Not really a fair comparison without including the Sonos Amp. Its the no.1 selling amp in the world and leads this category by a country mile.
