This guy is a great auto reviewer, very enjoyable to watch his attention to detail and neutral objectivity. You have to hand it to Kia for being smart and humble enough to use a German designer with reliable Asian automotive engineering. I've owned BMW, Audi, VW , Saab, and Volvo and they were all far far less reliable than the Japanese and Korean cars.
Great review! .....as always. I would love to see also the bottom of all cars reviewed. Is good to know how the transmission and suspension components fit under the car. Congratulatios to all Autogefuhl team staff.
We do have the 2.2L CRDI engine on our Santa Fe, and always got near or a bit more than the predicted consumption of 6.6L/100km. The best I've done is 5.8L/100km, very easy on the pedal of course. On normal driving, I always got an average of around 7.5L/100km mixed city, highway driving.
+Autogefühl Here is real KIA SORENTO consumer reivew. Rust had eaten into the 2nd row seat korea model, and I hope it's not for the your Sorento (if you have all new sorento.) Fold the 2nd row seat and open the back cover and you will find the rust and you and your family breathe the air with rust. (When you buy sorento recently, It may not be easy to open the back cover because KIA glue the metal plate and back-cover.) and rust will grow and you (maybe your baby too) will get more rust whenever you drive.
As far as I can see you didn't tested the Spirit version but the Platinum version...... And there is quite a big difference between them. Can you confirm? Anyway really a beautifull and detailed test!! Well done!
In the USA it's a 5 year/60,000 mile warranty and a 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. I test drove one just to see and I was surprisingly impressed by it. Much better than I was expecting. Kia has come a long way in a short period of time. No diesel engine offered here. North America gets the choice of a 2.4L 4 cylinder engine 185 hp and 178 lb-ft., a 2.0L Turbo 4 cylinder with 240 hp and 260 lb-ft., and a 3.3L 6 cylinder with 290 hp and 252 lb-ft..
I initially was a bit unsure whether to watch this because of the thick accent, but actually this review is excellent, good job. I'm considering this car when I replace my golf, but I am unsure of depreciation.
in the middle east , there are many engine selections : 3.3L V6 Petrol with 290 Hp{just like mine } , 2.2L petrol 197 Hp , 2.4L petrol 204 Hp . all the previous as deisel
I couldn't agree more to what he said, Kia Sorent 2016 is more like a van than a SUV. That was my impression when I saw it in person. So I opted to buy Subaru Outback 2015.
Once again a great review by Thomas (New subscriber here) Had a look at the 2017 one today,no test drive unfortunatley, but fit and finish A!,only thing i think missing is the way to fold seats from the rear via a button,My 2010 Mitsi outlander you can fold and tumble rear seats from the rear tailgate
i got new sportage and while i was buying it they were trying to sell me sorento older model with 40-50k more. now price difference between new modals mora than double since its come only with 2.0 and we have very big task for big cars in turkey.
Hi Thomas. Another excellent review. Do you know the reasons why the Koreans can offer so much "value" for such lower prices compared to the competition? Do they have significant savings in labour costs? I see the design and quality improvements from the past but I'm still amazed that they can offer so many features in their price range. My uncle recently purchased the Sante Fe and he's had nothing but positive things to say including a reasonable purchase price. What is logistics (parts) situation in Germany for the Asian brands? I know from my family in Italy that parts logistics for some of the Japanese brands prove to be a challenge. You can end up waiting a long time for replacement parts.
In Europe we prefer are cars to look more rugged and so we get the grey bumpers and the halogen fog lamps as its suits the look of an suv, however Kia decided to go for a glitzy look for the sorento is the states, hence coloured bumpers, moots of chrome and led lights
zagonde Hi! Sorry the Sedona and Carnival are not available in Germany :( Sorry also about the glasses, this model has expired! However - thank you very much for your interest, buddy! :)
Jamms Sinon Hmmm.. Discovery Sport, interesting. The Kia is the bigger car definitely. Though I would say they both offer the same interior quality. The Kia offers the better price/performance deal I think
Hello bro, are Sorento 2016 better than Highlander 2011? or can compare with Highlander 2016?I love Sorento but highlander seem more popular, reliable and in my country Highlander are more far expensive than Sorento! even Highlander 2008 is around $33000 and Sorento 2016 is around $25000 only. I planned to get Sorento 2016.
***** Thomas, you did mention that the ride can get a little bit too busy on some bumps on the road (typical Kia/Hyundai imo), what car/s in this class/price range do you think can do better in this particular scenario?
***** Hey, thanks for the inquiry. Actually the price/performance/space ratio is quite good with the Sorento. If you want better driving performance with an SUV you can e.g. go for the Volkswagen Touareg (also available in our review), which is again more expensive. If you rather pick the Van comparison, you can also check out our new Renault Espace full review. Going premium, it is possible to go for the a lil bit smaller Volvo XC60.
***** The problem is that VW cars came out as lot less reliable in many reliability/quality studies (as much as I like german cars, have to say that though). Kia is rated second best brand in the newest J.D. Power inital quality study, just after Porsche. Hyundai is 4th best, btw. And ofcourse, one gets substantially less for money in terms of features for money. Lastly, design of new Sorento betters that of Touareg. Choice is easy for me.
***** Ok Kia and Hyundai share the technology and parts; but it is strange that other manufacturers from the same corporation are wide spread. Like Jaguar and Land Rover, or like Porsche and Volkswagen. I wonder why
***** yes, you made a very good point, I asked myself that too. I tnink korean success is excellent for car industry and us buyers, as it becomes clear that europan cars (at least some brands) and even american cars are striving for better reliability and better quality. For example, new Ford Focus with ecoboost turboengine got excellent review from german magazine "Auto Bild" on durability test (dauertest) of 100 000km.
Good video, again. However, I feel you really ought to get over your dislike for leather seats. Try having two children vomit over your cloth seats and see how difficult it is to clear up the mess. With leather, it's a simple wipe over with a damp cloth and, job done!! :-))
+TheMister Mann Thanks!! About wiping the seats: Get faux leather then, quite often available already - or can be added as a 3rd party component. Or would your children want you to let a cow suffer in their names?
Actually, as far as I can tell Kia is using "bio leather" in Sorento, which is not real leather. It's faux leather. At least in trims sold in Slovakia.
So you actually think they slaughter cows just to use their skins? Little less ideology, my friend... or do you want us to believe that butchers throw away the meat? The leather used in automotive industry is a reused waste product of meat processing. One can love it or hate it, but not to the extent of almost criminalizing its utilization. Any way, nice job...keep it up.
I did! I've been watching all your reviews and waiting for your Allspace drive review. I've been watching some local American reviews and there are some complaints that the driving is a bit slow and dulled down for their expectations of a VW. But the European version seems to get consistently top marks. I wonder if the American version is tuned differently? Or if all the Allspace versions are "softened" a bit?
I was expecting more of nicer suv'ish dash as this style is something Fiat would come up. Not to mention the useless glovebox, ive seen minis with a bigger one.

Mario Dalla Riva Thanks! That's a good question indeed. I guess it has also to do with positioning on the market
amazing an english version !
Thanks, keep following us!
I like it a lot, but was KIA out of paint for the parking sensors?
I'm not sure how the rear wing inspires 'van' into you Thomas :)
In the U.S., the SXL V6 has LED fog lights why yours doesn't have that:( Also, Auto Diming mirror has garage home link.

He keeps saying it's a van. It's far from a van, my friend.
+Brandon Reitz The new Sorento has kind of a van style, it does. Just look :P Mix of Van and SUV for me
+Autogefühl I agree. If they gave it some ruggedized trim it would look more SUV even if they kept the same dimensions.
They copied the grille from Mercedes-Benz and the headlights from BMW.
I don't think so, Kia have a had this grill design since the dawn of time, same with the sorento headlights
