Who the hell divorces a smart home bro. Now she's gotta turn her lights off with switches like a cave woman.
Right? She didn't like the loss of a few things!
@@AutomateYourLife Brian - my wife of 50 years and I just discussed the future of our home automation if something happened to me first. She is actually pretty savvy with it all but I doubt she could maintain it. I told her "just unplug the hub and all the devices will work just like regular devices just with no automation" .... she says "wait a minute - I NEED those automations!". She made my day.
That's a great story! You are still useful!!
Congrats! Glad to hear you found something you like that you can afford. Your good followers aren't going anywhere. A house tour would be cool.
Yes! Thank you! And the house tour is first off when we get there
Glad you’ve found somewhere that works better for you & the little man
It'll be much better for us both I think!👍👍
Looks like you are up for a great adventure! Best of luck with all the the things coming up!
You're right! It's an adventure and a half coming!
Scared me that title!!!
Yup. Click bait for sure. Happy to see a new studio though.
Lol sorry...ya gotta bring you folks in somehow!
The guy who inspired me to be nicer online got a divorce? I'm turning back to the old me. : (
😂😂😂
The old version of me got a divorce. I'd like to pretend I've grown
Congrats Sir! I'm excited for you!
The title gave me a scare! SO happy to hear you just mean out of your current location and not leaving RUclips! Moving is a hassle, but it sounds like this is going to be a very good move for you. I'm happy you managed to find a place that should work well. As far as suggestions on a new build, I'll share one that we did on our build and are so happy we did. That is, having each outlet pair in the kitchen on its own breaker. That way, you never have to worry about blowing a breaker, no matter what device/appliance you plug in. (A bit of a funny story on this one - when we were building, I told the electrician we want a separate breaker for each kitchen outlet. He said, "That's overkill, you don't need that" but I insisted. It was only after he was done that I discovered that to an electrician, an outlet is a single connection to plug in - IE: The typical 'outlet' as I was calling it was not 'an' outlet but an 'outlook pair'. While my goal was one breaker per pair, our misunderstanding resulted in having 8 breakers for just our kitchen outlets instead of the 4 I was expecting. On the good side, we'll never blow a breaker, but 1/4 of our breaker box is consumed by the 10 breakers the kitchen uses - extra 2 for the electric stove plug-in.) So, while you don't need it a crazy as we ended up with, maybe consider at least one breaker per outlet pair. Speaking of outlets, consider what you might be plugging in and maybe adjust one or more pairs into a dual-outlet (4 plug ins) - That was the only 'major' thing we missed in the kitchen.
Ahahahaha!! That's a great story Al! So impressive to have 60+ amps available in a kitchen (sounds like more lol)
Congratulations on the new home, Brian! I'd love to be able to start from scratch and plan my smart home but I would not want to go through another move. Lol. Looking forward to seeing it and what you will do with it! I'm sure it'll be amazing!
We will try to get it right Leo, but who knows!😂
@@AutomateYourLife I'm sure you will!
Hey BRIAN. You have helped me a few times over the years. I actually got responses from you...I thought that was pretty cool. Sorry to hear about your family situation. Hang in there! Lot's of us have been through it man.
Happy to hear about your new home! Eyes are in the front of your head ti keep looking forward
Good point! Upwards and onwards!
Congratulations Brian! My suggestion is to do a bare house tour, but then do a video for each room as you complete it. This will give you time to build out each room and will make the entire process to not be overwhelming - you may have to put some dumb blinds and lights up immediately for the sake of covering windows and lighting rooms, but you'll really appreci9ate having time to plan out each room as you go. We built our house in 2021-22 and moved in July of 22 and I still have some blind tilt motors to install! At the speed of life, stuff can be overwhelming quickly.
Great plan Will! Thanks!
Bro how dare you play with my heart like that!! Anyway congrats, happy for your next steps!! We'll be here man.
Lol sorry John! 😂 Thanks!
You scared us all with this title.
Congrats! Hope you and your child get the best on the new place. Blessings!
Keep moving forward!
Cheers from Costa Rica
Thanks so much and sorry for the scare!
This is really exciting! Inspirational that you’re able to manage so many moving parts and make this move happen. Can’t wait to see a tour of the new place!
This is probably way too niche, but I’d love to see a tour of the network area/room and any new wiring you’ll be doing. Would be great to get future-proofing tips for networking. Plus, cable management is just so satisfying.
I’ve also got a kid on the way, so would love to see any cool stuff for a kid’s room, only if you can of course!
Take your time, and wishing you the best of luck from Malaysia! Let the community know if you need any help, even remotely!
Oh man, I have big decisions to make from a network/cable standpoint. How much am I going to put into the costs there? That's a big question and certainly not too niche!
I wish you the best of luck!
Thanks Dennis! We are very excited!
Good luck with the house move Brian. Don't worry about the channel. We'll be here when you're settled in 👍🏻
Awesome! Thank you!
I am 10 minutes south of Calgary and yes our house prices are nuts for sure. Congratulations!!!!!
And we don't even get water for all our money. Hey?
And here I was looking forward to Automate Your Refrigerator Box.
Congratulations! Homeownership is exciting and scary. Looking forward to seeing what you do when you're off the leash.
Ahahahaha AYRefrigeratorBox!😂😂
Could you please create videos of the smart home journey into a new home (which you will have to do anyway😅)? Things like: good preparation, setting up wifi for a new smart home (consolidate ssids or not), naming rooms and zones (because different platforms add themselves as well), what's a good order of adding smart devices and platforms, which platforms are you bringing to the new home and why, on which platform to create automations, etc.... many thanks!
As a Canadian to a Canadian: congratulations on buying your own house in this crazy market!
Have fun with automating the hell out of it 😂
That's the plan! And thanks my fellow Canuck!
Hey that’s good news. Congratulations. Glad you’re sticking around here. Love the channel. Looking forward to some sleek tasteful lighting in the new place.
Thanks Doc! That's gonna be one of my first goals!
Awesome! Congratulations on the new place and the new plans.
Thank you!!
Congratulations on your new home. Wishing you the best Brian.
You are the reason I got into automation so keep on trucking.
Did you mean you are turning over a new NanoLeaf? Lol
Whoa whoa whoa...that pun hits a little too close to smart home
Excellent!! Congratulations!!
Enjoy your new place. I know its scary to see the amount of debt and new bills you'll have to pay but the freedom you'll enjoy with your son won't be limited.
Make your house look like the bridge on enterprise!!
Oh you're so right. Big bills, big memories. Worth it.
I live in Alberta as well. Recently (within a year) I purchased automated blinds and I think they are great! I travel for extended periods of time so it's great to have my blinds open and close to give my home the lived in look, as well as light for my plants. I have them set to open an hour after sunrise and just after sunset. They are controlled by an app. I have three windows with these blinds and they weren't all that expensive. Got them from Budget Blinds and I have a contact if you're interested.
Oh what kind of control did you get Freddie? I had an idea of what I wanted to do for blinds but I'm open!
@@AutomateYourLife I control them mostly with the app but also comes with a remote. The remote is labeled Smart Home Collection by Budget Blinds. You should be able to find RUclips videos about them.
@FreddietheFly yep! And I've got a lady who does blinds but was really interested in what you're doing Freddie. Thank you!
Congrats on the new place! Glad you’ll be back
Thank you!!
Congratulations on the new house! Can’t wait to see what you do with it!
Thank you!!
Congratulations on your new home. Yes, it is going to be overwhelming, but you can do it!
Oh totally, we are going to just take it one step at a time! Thanks 😃
I hope everything goes well with the move! As always, love your content and perspectives on things!
so appreciated! Thanks Joey
God dang it Brian, these "I'm stopping"-videos keep scaring me. Thankfully this video was only a temporary scare 😅 Looking forward to positive changes in the future! Smart home tours can be oddly soothing when watching with a cup of coffee so I'll keep an eye out for some of those 😉
A good cup of coffee makes every vid better Sune. Sorry for the scare ;)
Good for you Brian. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much (as always) Ron
Good luck! I’ll be watching.
Oh hi Grace! Good to see you and happy you'll be around for this!
Congratulations on the new home! Can't wait to see the tour
Coming soon! Thanks!
Congrats on the the new digs! Looking forward to the change!
Thanks Don! Me too 😃
all the best with the move mate, looking forward to seeing your new pad
Thanks so much!
You're paying $10,000 per month rent for the last 10 years, no you can't afford a home mortgage for $5,000 per month - banks. Congrats to you and the lucky bank who will make a fortune (about double the purchase price). Hope you pay it down asap...think renewables (upfront cost is higher than a cheap thing, but pays off over the long term) and electrify your life.
That was my thought with the bank...who's the lucky folks that are going to finance the guy who's been paying way more in rent? It's a crazy world I tell ya.
Good luck with this big life change. I hope it goes as smooth as possible.
Smooth would be nice, but we will just take the change! 😃👍
Good for you dude! Congratulations on the home!
Thanks so much! Excited for sure
Congratulations on your new home 🎉
Good luck for the future. I'll keep following you.👍
Looking forward to our chats here!
Congratulations looking. Fwd to the future for you!!!
Thank you! You too!
Congratulations Brian! You deserve it...
Thanks so much Richard! We are going to enjoy it all
Sounds like you went through some really hard times there! That's a heckuva lot of stress to deal with all at once and under duress.
Home automation can be pretty tough on wife and landlord it seems 🤣.
They just can't handle it! 😂😂
Way to embrace change… you will continue to succeed as a result. Good luck!
Thanks so much Ed. You're right...gotta embrace the changes in life
Congratzzz bro! I already have so many ideas how would I had done things differently if had a new house.
Ohhh do share! I want to try and get most of it right the first time...but that feels a little far fetched lol
I'm not from Canada but my partner is (Lethbridge), EVERYTHING is so expensive in Canada but it's interesting that Canada and California seem to be the same when it comes to prices, taxation and state government. 🤔
It really makes you think, doesn't it?
Glad it's working out for you and thst you've got a positive attitude! ❤
Heck ya! Thanks!
All the best....we will be here when you are ready.
Thanks so much!
I was in the same position (exactly) and am still renting because I FINALLY got the home loan for the divorce off my credit. Having said that I lucked out to a pretty big space but it let me start from scratch and reimagine my smart home. I was able to grab all my smart stuff, put it on a box, grab a Homey Pro, and logically think about what was going to go where instead of just continuously using legacy hardware. It DEFINITELY gives you a fresh perspective on automation and you get to look at all the fun automations you can do in the new place! Good luck!
Wow, wild to hear another story like this. Sounds like you're working through it all and I'm excited to do so!
I have friends in Alberta, I know its tough out there. Glad things have worked out for you Brian :)
Thanks Burnzy! It's a wild time....
U shock me there bro! I loved your doorbell comparison btw❤🎉
Thanks! 😁 No shock intended!
Congrats on the big move! 🎉
I’m a contractor in your area if you need any help with basement development or anything else you need.
Love the channel!
Oh man we are gonna need some help for sure. What's sorta stuff do you do?
@@AutomateYourLife we specialize in wood/steel stud framing, insulation/sound proofing, drywall, texture and t-bar ceilings, but we also do so much more and have a great group of trade partners to tackle anything. We do commercial and residential so we are well-versed. Let me know if you need anything or even if you just need some advice.
Happy for you! Now you can have a garden and a puppy dog!
Oh man, I can't wait. Thanks so much 😃
I follow the channel but I didn't know about your situation(s). Keep your head up and stay strong. Remember, it's not about what happens - it's about how you handle it 👌🏾
Good luck.
Thank you, I will!
Wow ! Glad you are moving to your own place. I am sure you and Mini-B will enjoy this to the full extent. Sad I cant help you move, I am still in the Q province, but my thought will be with you. Wish you all the best and come back to us as fast as possible !
Thanks so much Philipe! I'll take the well wishes!
Good luck on the new adventure Brian with the new home!
Thanks Josh!😃👍
Good Luck Brian in your new venture, hoping it all works out well for you and your son.
Much appreciated. It'll work out great I'm sure!
Congrats! I started my home automation journey thanks to your videos when it was just Google Home. Thank you for bringing me on this journey.
That's how I started too! Thanks!
Congratulations! 🎉 having your own place that you fix up as you like!
Yessss! Very excited
Really happy for you, owning your own home is a blessing and the way to go
Thank you! See you soon!
Hi Brian, not been around a lot but happy for you! All the best buddy!
All good Tiann! Nice to see you!
Congrats and cant wait to see how things develop...😁😁😁👍👍👍
Thanks Patrick! :) Will do
Great to hear there are goiig to be good things for your future.
Most definitely! Thanks so much!
Brian, CONGRATS!!! Hey, can you get any Home Automation wiring in before the move in? CAT6 or better to each of the rooms? Enjoy the transition.
Oh man, it isn't wired so that's one of the things we gotta do! These companies skimp on stuff like that. It'll be fun to get that done, but the walls are closed....soooo...not easy!
@@AutomateYourLife I know the feeling. After I retired we purchased a house in Central Florida that was built in 1956. Built one year prior to the mandatory ground wire to each electrical outlet. Rewired those with grounds first. When I purchased my UDM-Pro, 24 Pro switch and UNVR with 13 cameras I spend most of my mornings in the attic from 4:30 AM until 8AM, as after that the attic's temperature would climb to 138 degrees. Gets warm down here. All the rooms have CAT6 now. Well worth the effort!!! I keep adding to my Home Automation devices each month now, never ends. Have fun.
Congrats dude. So happy for you
Thank you so much 😀
You live in Alberta? My sympathies.
LOL
Congrats Brian!
Thanks Keith!
Congrats on the new home. Great opportunity to do a series on moving a smart home, what to leave behind, deciding to purge or purchase devices, the effort required to reconnect stuff again on a new network, and room by room tours as the grand finale. I find most smart home tours to be too compressed and would rather see a series of room tours including products, automatons and the thought process behind it all.
Great ideas Dave! Thanks!
All the best. 🎉 the small wins.
Thanks Claire! Lots of celebrations coming
Good luck in your new home Brian👍🏻
Thanks 👍 We are excited!
Good luck with the move. Look forward to seeing you use your experience to build a new smart home almost from scratch 😊 see what you use, what automations you put in place etc
That's the plan! Thanks Martin!
@AutomateYourLife That'll be great remember watching the series from Home Automation Guy enjoyed it.
Congrats Brian, a great move. Looking forward to the new happier you!
You and me both!
@@AutomateYourLife I’ve just moved into my new home a few months ago. Loving adding the smart tech when and where I like it. Word to the wise, expect your wallet to get thinner as you fit out all the rooms, furniture, garden, curtains, etc. Always costs more than you hope/expect.
The difference is this to your benefit. I’ve had to fit out the house with one foot on the accelerator and one foot on the brake. Cash flow is king. Enjoy.
Seems looks like you going to get your new upgrade nice. My bedroom got upgraded to Internet TV and phone and cleaning.
Nice Ethan!
Thank you
Congrats on the new house!
Thanks sir! Looking forward to it :)
Congrats on your new place!
Thank you!!
Man.... Don't play like that. Lol. I love your reviews. You have helped me out with setting up my smart home. Hope you find a place that is good for you.
LOL sorry! No more playing
Good luck in your new home, i’m excited for the new things to come 👍🏼
Yes! Thank you!
Sorry to hear about your divorce. The situation, creates a whole lot of emotions , etc. So, take your time with the healing process. All the best for the new home and ventures!
Oh thanks! I'm all good on that emotional side, but I'm sure I'll have a moment or two when I get to our new home :)
And you better give us a home tour of your place. And thank you for the advice!
Deal! It's coming for sure. :)
I wish you all the very best for the future.
Thanks Frank!
Congrats on the move and the new opportunities. If you talk about corporate greed, you have to add some Paul Hibbert-style hip movements.
I did miss out on that didn't I??😂😂
@@AutomateYourLife I bet Paul would happily give you a quick clip to use.
@@shenencalhar he has before!
Congrats with your progres, hope you are back on the screen fast AS a smart light👌
I will be back and am going to try and do videos all along the way! We just might not make it ;)
Congrats! So happy for you!
Thanks Mike! So excited too!
Sjeez what a prices! In the Netherlands (east / countryside) I'm paying around 800 euro for my house with (3 car) garage (bought, renovated, 2 bedrooms and 1200m2 ground).
Good luck in your new place!
😳 man I remember those prices... Thanks!
Best of luck in your new home. I really liked that wall behind you.
Yeahhhh, some folks are gonna miss that. We'll have to come up with something just as unique for the new space :)
Congrats on the new place. My wife is a realtor in Edmonton and it is a CRAZY market for new home buyers . Looking forward to seeing the new studio .
I recognize the name! Good luck in that market! I can't imagine the days right now
For some packing boxes
Oh man thanks Brad! I'll need more than a few!
Great to here that ! :)
Yes indeed! Thank you!
Hey, Brian. I'm really glad the move is going to work out for you. We'll all be watching the progress so don't hesitate to give updates as you make the move. I know you'll enjoy being able to do some things you can't do in a rental unit, but on the other hand, I know you have an appreciation for what works and doesn't work for folks who are renting. Get-r-done and we'll be glad to see you settled.
Thanks Hugh! We'll get-r-done asap and have some fun in the process :)
Good luck with everything Brian
Thanks 👍
Maybe you will take this opportunity to change that lavender background. Lol
😂😂
Best of luck with everything Brian !
Thanks Roger!
Congrats on your new home.
Thank you!!
Congrats on the new place, Brian. I bought my house nearly 43 years ago and I've been happy here.
43 years! Wow Dave...I don't know how you did that but it's amazing
Good luck with the change. Enjoy all the challenges, up and downs that comes with it, as its part of the experience. I did not know about the other channel have just taken a look and will be going back to look through the content. This will give you some time to move before the next video here.
Thanks Gary! I'm totally onboard with the viewpoint you're suggesting. It's gotta be taken as it comes with this one!
Does this finally mean your going to be able to do home assistant stuff and be able to have more automated stuff
If I want to, yep!
Congrats mate, well deserved. 👍
Thanks a ton!
Will you be moving to HomeAssistant as a primary hub for your devices or will you try to stick with other hubs?
I don't think I'll be moving exclusively to Home Assistant, no. I'm bringing it with me though and we still have a plan to test it as a main home controller :)
Good Luck Brian. That's with both your own life and with Canadian life in general.
Canadian life isn't the easiest at the moment, but easy isn't worth it 😃
So happy for you, your kid, and the channels! Woo! 🙌🏽
Thanks so much! We are gonna enjoy this so much together
Yeah it hard to find a bank to front you money when going throw a divorce. Because the wife can claim that new home if your still going throw the divorce process.
