I personally believe that MISA, the bassist, and Akane, the drummer, are the most intuitively brilliant "rhythm section" in rock and roll. Every Maid is brilliant in their own light. Kanami, their lead guitarist and composer of all their music, Miku, the rhythm guitarist and primary lyricist, and Saiki, their lead vocalist, are all quite talented on their own. Miku worked in a maid cafe when she was younger.
Maid cafes in Japan are a popular concept where the maids serve drinks and omelets to the customers and sing and do cute dances for their customers. Miku, who had won an idol contest for singing and her personality, did not want to have a career as and idol, so she pitched the idea of young women wearing cute maid outfits, but playing hard rock. She called it the "gap" meaning "What you're seeing and what you're hearing are completely different". Her management company liked the concept and began helping her put together the band.
The story behind the "pigeon-hole", is Miku Kobato's last name means small pigeon. Miku believes that she is the reincarnation of an 810 year old pigeon. She ends every sentence with po (pigeon speak).
Her quirky, high-energy, and engaging personality makes her a fan favorite. Yes, Miku does have songs that she is the lead vocalist on. She is the lead on "Sayonakidori",, "The Rock In Me", and lately "Brightest Star". All of these songs are fast-paced rock songs, but an acoustic version of "Sayonakidori" from their 2021 Christmas Okyu-ji is well worth a listen. With just Akane and MISA backing her on the song, Miku's beautiful sweet voice really shines. Beware, if you react to and really listen to it, you may completely fall in love with Miku. Many a Maidiac has.

Miku harmonizing with Saiki is integral to almost every Band-Maid song. And generally she has one song on every album where she has a solo performance. Saiki was recruited-- after only three shows back in 2013-- because they needed a "heavier" voice, and not because Miku can't sing. Miku was in agreement with this decision btw.

Miku sings lead vocal on these songs: Sayonakidori, Time, Rock in Me, Brightest Star (will be on their new album coming in Sept), Summer Drive, Beauty and the Beast, Big Dad (from their first EP). As noted by others, they tend to do one song for her each album or EP, and usually play one per concert. She also has a side project called Cluppo for which she's the main vocalist.
I really like Sayonakidori, many fans like Time or Rock in Me. Brightest Star is probably too new, they played it last November for the first time (I think?) in their Yokohama concert. The only one of these that has an official video, I think, is Sayonakidori, and there's both a live concert version and an acoustic version! But you can find unofficial live versions of Time or Rock in Me.

The Maids performing one of their (two) most performed songs: Freedom and Real Existence. But the Maids in this MV are pure perfection, aren't they? I mean, what can you fault? And those faces... their attitude... their music... their playing... their story... and their joy! Band-Maid is a world treasure, imo! Thanks J-Swag, for bringing the world's best hard rock band to your viewers!

The Hate video was from the end of 2023 at the end of their 10th anniversary tour. This video is from February 2020, just before stuff shut down. So, it's a little bit older. Saiki has always been the main vocalist, though Miku is considered a main vocalist, as well. She does have a solo in every album, and has done a solo album (mini-album?) under the name Cluppo (look it up, she's actually a very versatile singer with incredible range). The reason she didn't feel she was appropriate as the lead vocalist is because she didn't have the power for a rock band. She's great as a pop singer, which has done before. But Miku and Saiki have amazing harmonies.

Band Maid was only a 4-piece for 3 shows before Saiki joined. Miku was in a 3-member idol group called Lil Cumin before Band Maid; you can find them on YT. Fun things about this video, when Miku sings her verse and Kanami is sitting there watching her.... it's because Miku messed up her lines at their previous show, which is funny because the pigeon (Miku) is the main lyricist. Also, the part where Saiki is up on the riser with Akane (drums), she was making faces trying to get Akane to mess up, but it didn't work so she made a kissy face back to Saiki.... you'll see the same thing again in the Domination -Live MV, but this time it's Miku, MISA, and Kanami trying to break their drummer. The Japanese call it Hengao. I think this is the only drum solo in existence where the drummer sticks to same tempo of the song from beginning to end, that's why when the rest of the band comes back in its seamless into the guitar solo. As far as Miku lead vocal songs are "Rock in Me", "Time", "Beauty and the Beast", and "Sayonakidori" which has the original electric version and also an acoustic one.

Thanks for the reaction and comments. These ladies are FIRE!!!!! IMHO they are the best live rock band on the planet. You really can’t go wrong with any song. My one suggestion when reaction is to stick with their official live or music videos. A few of my personal favorites are Play, Real Existence, No God, Puzzle, Onset (all official live videos) and Shambles, Blooming, Influencer (MVs). At some point it’ll be worth your time to check out a parallel sister band called Band-Maiko. Although they don’t perform live, they are arguably even better than Band-Maid. A couple songs worth checking out: Secret Maiko Lips and Gion-Cho. Looking forward to your next video. Until then…Cheers!

Miku performs lead vocals usually on one song per album, check out Rock in Me, Time, Sayonakidori, or Brightest Star, but she also sings backing vocals/harmonies on pretty much every song. My Top 3 Band-Maid Songs: Blooming, Daydreaming, Puzzle, but every one of their songs are worth listening to (preferably live).

Yea, don't really understand hang up on *genre* labeling and I don't think *BAND-MAID* does either because in 2023 *BAND-MAID* performed at the Sonic Temple festival and was interviewed by a local radio station and was asked what genre did they think they are and *Miku* replied that *BAND-MAID* wants to be their own genre which is *cute and cool* at the same time.
In the beginning there was a small pigeon 🐦 who met a guitarist 🎸 who played with a drummer 🥁 who went to school with the bassist 🎸 and then tricked the singer 🎤 to join the band then the small pigeon 🐦 asks the guitarist 🎸 please teach me how to play the guitar 🎸. The Story Continues.

What a fun reaction, thank you 🙏
All I’ll say today is that yes, there’s an entire fun lore and quirky details in the Band Maid universe. And that any questions (literally anything) you can think of will be answered in the comments.
“Freedom” is their arena pop rock with a disco chorus, in my mind. “Hate?” Seems more chaotic hard rock to me.
Another style they have I refer to as “cinematic rock.” (I’m really promoting this term 😂) And because of your interest in Miku’s voice, I’m recommending “Puzzle,” official live for you. Miku still sings harmonies, but it’s a bit different here and very much part of the song. And the song itself is a different style again, blending AC/DC riffs over a bombastic Queen-esque sound all wrapped up with a 🎀
Enjoy your journey of discovery 🤘🏽

If you're only doing one version of 'Domination' do the LIVE version. Yes, Miku is the founder of BAND-MAID. She won an Idol Contest, but after a while doing that she parleyed it into a deal to do her dream a Band of Hard Rocking Mads!. It was slow going at first. And she had to do a lot. She had always envisioned duel vocals so she dropped back to backing vocals after finding a stronger lead vocalist at the agency. Then instead of hiring a sixth member she had Kanami teach her to play rhythm guitar. So she had to learn to play and sing at the same time all while in a working band. Had their first Music Video not gone viral the label was going to fire the musicians and turn the two vocalists into Dance-Maid. Miku and Saiki both cried, "We did not come to Tokyo for this!". Fortunately after getting shared to a Japanese Music Facebook page it blew up and the rest is history! Yes, there are "Miku Songs". Look for 'Rock In Me' as well as the LIVE and Acoustic versions of 'Sayonakidori'. They're also known for their April Fools Day pranks. Two years in a row they release videos as BAND-MAIKO before The COVID Clampdown. After that it was Miku Goes Solo as Cluppo. So check out her songs as those as well.

No, there aren't any songs before Saiki joined. She actually joined very early. However, Miku does have her own song each album. Unfortunately, none of them have OMVs, other than the acoustic version of Sayonakidori, but the others are Big Dad, Beauty and the Beast, Time and Rock in Me. You can probably find some live versions, or listen to the album tracks.

There's a live video out there at Boston Paradise club where she sings Rock In Me and walks down into the audience... just a fun performance! I really like Miku's part in "Alone". Miku was not originally a backing vocalist. Therefore, Miku also sings in twin vocals with Saiki on the early songs provided to the band by the agency.
There are also songs with Miku alone from the beginning. From the third album CD "Brand New MAID", Miku began to do more backing vocals.
After the band members started making songs by themselves, songs exclusively for Miku began to be made.
In addition, there is a solo project under the name "cluppo" that was derived from April 1, 2021, so there are 6 songs, one song for the ending of the anime, and one song that she sang as a singer for Touhou LostWord in April this year, for a total of 8 songs from cluppo

I'm fond of saying that Saiki and Misa wear "maid-adjacent" looks. They do pick outfits that meld with Miku and Kanami who still do very maid cafe looking outfits, and Akane is somewhere in between. The outfits have evolved over the years, and in Akane's case, have always been very practical to allow her to drum without getting in the way. Note her wearing Chuck Taylors like a lot of drummers do.

There is no such thing as a bad Band Maid song. Listen to anything that draws your interest. Live and MV's each have a tale to tell, I like to alternate. Just remember that they will play everything from jazz to classical and often many genres in a single song, Order is a good example of that. Also realize that their style and ability has morphed and improved over the last 11 years.

Fans are Maidiacs... Miku is the Pigeon... The uniforms are based on the traditional Japanese Maid Cafe uniforms. Miku worked for a time in a Maid Cafe before forming Band Maid. They change around a bit over time. In this video Saiki was wearing a Spanish Inspired Matre de style outfit and MISA a traditional Chinese inspired domestic house maid style uniform. Akane, they had to alter her maid uniform quite a bit to give her the freedom of movement she needs to play the drums. Even Saiki's blue color and Miku's red flower in the bonnets mean something... I don't remember at the moment, but I used to know what the difference was...

Regarding the order of which songs to listen to? It doesn't matter. Every song has something unique that hasn't been heard in a previous Band-Maid song, so there isn't much build up. You have already watched them at a peak proficiency level, so you can just pick songs at random. They are all great.

There are two versions of Sayonakidori. The one I like best is NOT the busier stage performance with everyone, but the one done for a Christmas special. Just the rhythm section, Akane and Misa backing Miku with her solo performance singing and playing acoustic guitar. No maid costumes. Seated in a large room of some high-rise. A few throw rugs. A big contrast to their lively rock music.

Record sales were not there and their record company was going to drop them if this didn't get better. They dropped "Thrill" on Facebook then RUclips and immediately went viral, in turn saving Miku's dream and Band-Maid. Trying to randomly react to a band with this many songs is futile and you will miss many and your brain might fall out. Many reactors purchase Band-Maid CD's the play their music from the very beginning "Maid in Japan" album. There are more songs without videos than with. Think about the outfits as if they're a MAID-CAFE:
             Hostess - Saiki - Spanish Suit - singer 1A
             Waitstaff - Miku - French Maid - singer 1B - rhythm guitar
Waitstaff - Kanami - French Maid - lead guitar
Barkeep - Misa - Ninja Maid - bass
Chef - Akane - Pageboy Maid - drums
Please note that it's been pointed out that Akane loves to eat and Misa loves to drink so there will be no food or booze left at this particular restaurant.
Interviewer - What’s the meaning of the name “BAND MAID”?
Miku: I used to work at a maid cafe, and I thought “I want a band!” So it became BAND-MAID - maids in a band!
Interviewer: Maid outfits aren’t exactly rock ‘n’ roll. What is your ultimate heavy metal costume?
MIKU “Now Band-Maid’s outfits are part of rock n roll, so we pick these!”
Interviewer: Why should people listen to Band-Maid?
MIKU - “We’re not a pop idol group! Don’t judge us on how we look. We want to blow you away with our heavy rock sound.”
MIKU “We want a big gap between how we look and how we perform in order to be unique,”.

Band-Maid incorporates metal grooves and riffs into some of their songs. But they have zero songs that are purely metal, I'd say. Even Rinne (pronounced Rin-neh), which is often recommended as their metal song and comes off as very hard, has harmonized vocals, and has a somewhat pop-metal chorus, has some funky rhythms especially with the bass, and then has a jazzy break-down, and a sort of experimental solo. Moratorium has some really hard riffs, but then has a totally poppy gang-vocal extra chorus section (with hard rocking guitars behind it). You see these combinations in a lot of their songs.
This combination of various genres in most of their songs makes them pretty much impossible to categorize. We Madiacs abbreviate the notion of this difficulty by shrugging and saying, "The genre is Band-Maid."
