  • The Orionids meteor shower is an annual meteor shower that occurs in late October, and it is associated with Halley's Comet. It is caused by the Earth passing through the debris left behind as it makes it journey around the sun.     I am lucky to be old enough to have been able to see Halley's Comet when it passed by Earth last time

    Orion is good too as in winter when it's cold you can think that somebody will be looking at the Belt directly overhead at the warm Equator.

    I found Orions constellation this morning from my dog waking me up in the morning around 5ish 6! I was so shocked that I saw 3 stars so close to each other and that's how I found out it was the “belt” 😅. I'm so fascinated by this I've been showing my family all the pictures I took and even outlined it! I can't wait to see the orionid meteor shower tonight! I've always been fascinated with space even though I'm young but I'm glad I saw it since times have been rough with all the current stuff the world is going through.

      Omg. Are you late to the party but welcome!! Wait until you get a small telescope (or larger) recommend 8" aperture at least and you witness the Orion nebula with ur own eyes closer. Its spectacular!! (Underneath the main belt , the sash part)

    My son and I saw abt 40 in a little over an hour last night. He's 8 and was super excited to see his first "shooting star" and a meteor shower.

    Hello Hello From Canada!!! I really enjoyed this episode and how you explained some things I didn't know about Orion. I have been out watching at different times in different places, but I haven't seen so much as a blip in the sky. 😞 I guess I'm not meant to see them this time around. Your channel is new to me so I look forward to checking out more of your other episodes. Keep up the awesome content and thank you for the "Eyes on the solar system" tip for me to peruse.

      Hello! 👋 The Orionids can be challenging to see when it compare it to other meteor showers. The Perseids and the Geminids produce the most per hour. If you like NASA's "Eyes on the Solar System"...check out "Eyes on Exoplanets"...I can spend hours on that simulation looking at all the stars that have planets.

    Can you just make a video on how to distinguish between a satellite and a shooting star? Because whenever I look at a moving object in the sky, it always comes out to be a satellite

      Satellites travel the same speed and don't turn off. It's just a moving loght across the sky. Shooting stars are much faster and might fluctuate in intensity

      Satellites move slowly at a steady pace. Sometimes you can see trails of them, such as Starlink. Shooting stars happen quickly in a fraction of a second. They can come in different colors based upon what the space dust is composed of. They can range in size, brightness, and duration.

    So Haleys Comet's debris is on the same orbital plane as us?

      No, it is not on the same orbital plane as the Earth. It is tilted 18 degrees from Earth's orbital plane. It's orbit also goes beyond the orbit of Neptune.
