Larry has been u2s secret weapon all these years...his look attracted the girls while his martial backbeat kept the music pumping. Integral to their success
I often find that the best speeches and communication are done by those who prefer to listen and only speak when they have something great to say. Larry, you are inspirational, your low-key lifestyle, playing style and "celebrity" is something everyone should honor. You've never been too big for your job and have stayed so humble in the face of literal record-breaking sales and success. To stay so true to himself is a testament to his integrity and family values. All I can say is, thank you for your amazing, original and creative drum style, you are one of the greats even if the purists won't recognize you.
As Bono and Edge tend to be the more chatty ones, it's nice to hear Larry speak at length like this. It's really amazing, as I've been a U2 fan ever since the early 90s, when I first heard Mysterious Ways, before I was even 10 years old. I've seen them live 8 times, including in Dublin; yet, I am quite confident that I have never heard Larry speak more than his giving short, one or two sentence answers in interviews.
Joseph Muir you're right, as a big Larry fan it always frustrates me that he's usually the one who speaks the least, but check out this inteview from the 80's: ruclips.net/video/bXELzDfOQ20/видео.html He was actually quite talkative and very laid back here!
The management told Larry and Adam that their role was to support Bono and Edge on and off the stage and not to take any of the limelight, in photos or on TV interviews You will always see that Bono is in the center with Larry and Adam on the side. Most bands do the same thing
I never thought that Larry, who is like clockwork, after all these years can be a very good stand up comedian! Long Live Larry! Long Live U2! Long Live Yamaha!
imagine U2 from beginning to now. What an INCREDIBLE band. The drumming in U2 is one of the greatest in history. What a great user of the bass drum in the rhythm section of one of the greatest bands ever. BRAVO U2 and BRAVO LARRY MULLEN!
Lol just lovely to see Larrys. I recently attended a movie screening in Tokyo and he was the same...put his glasses and referred to spending his life hiding behind a set of drums. He really is a very considered speaker & it's a joy to here him speak.
Thank you for posting this! What a wonderful speech. No wonder I love this man so much - not only is he amazingly handsome (stil) he truly has a unique sense of humour. Always has, actually, since the first interviews back in the 80's. He may be the quiet one alright, but when he opens his mouth, it'll surely be to make either a very intelligent or very funny comment (or both!).
I’ve been a fanatic fan of U2 since 1982 when they were just beginning and I swear to God this is the first time I have seen Mullen talk this much and be this charming all at the same time! “Oh Larry... how I wanted to marry you when I was just a youngin!”
This is really great to watch. Thanks fo posting it. Such a nice fellow, funny too. Hell of a drummer too. Many people underestimate how hard it would be to do those massive shows playing to sequencers and pre-recorded tracks. Every night for years , laying down a solid backbeat, he has delivered the goods for U2 music - and that is the ultimate job of every drummer. Great film clip👍
I rise a glass of Porto wine to Mr. Larry M.Jr, from Portugal. I never thought you could be so hilarious. I do love your loving irish accent.Tá grá agam duit!

'phil collins, neil peart'-both greater technically yes in traditional ways. but neither as integral to development and creation and dedication to a four part unit investigating and laying down all they could in music for about a million hours. drumming on unforgettable fire album still pretty unique i think. for starters...
Don't forget, its Larry's band. He put up the poster for band mates, and Adam, then Edge and Edge's brother showed up, then Bono appeared. The band was formed in his freakin' kitchen
If Larry hadn’t been in U2, I probably would have ignored them. In fact, without his awesome drum sound, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t even have liked their songs very much.
What is wrong with you people? Those of you below who've commented that Mullen is a 'great' or 'the best'. No he's not....he average at best. And why does someone get a lifetime achievement award award for banging drums. My Mum is eight-five, she's has nine kids, twenty-six granchildren and nine great grandchildren. She' never hurt anyone, never been arrested and has cooked I once worked out and put food on a plate for someone over 200,ooo times. Where's her lifetime achievement award?
For a guy who lays low, Larry is incredibly well spoken here and seems quite comfortable.
Rez just amazing as the drummer hes been for over 40 years as i said they make the band and stay so humble because they carry the band no doubt!
He said it so well, What do you call a guy who hangs out with musicians?
Well deserved Larry! Absolute legend. He is the reason I picked up the drum sticks when I was 10. 👍🤟👍
Larry has been u2s secret weapon all these years...his look attracted the girls while his martial backbeat kept the music pumping. Integral to their success

He looks great. Thanks for posting. So rare to hear him talk so much.
Thanks to Larry, we have U2. He started U2.
You deserve all of it...& so much more❤

I can recall some 😜 Sometimes he talks quite a lot in interviews, actually. 🙂 Check out The Two Larrys Podcast. Great, great interview! 😊

He's also just a very humbled person. He doesn't ever toot his own horn. To me that makes him awesome

As much as we don't hear much of Larry during interviews and that, it's a joy to hear him, and his sense of humour.
Larry is a class act! One of the best! The founder of U2! Bless him!
I never thought that Larry, who is like clockwork, after all these years can be a very good stand up comedian! Long Live Larry! Long Live U2! Long Live Yamaha!

Class act, that guy - and a superb drummer.
He's Larry. Everyone loves him. A humble, dignified man.
A beautiful soul this man is.

Not the best but he's a fine drummer. Definitely defined himself.

"slainte slainte" ughhhhhh a crappy cliche that is used more by ignorant Americans than is used by Irish people In Ireland
Please share what slainte means.
It means “ cheers “ in Irish and ironically NOBODY says it here
COULDN'T UNDERSTAND??? BAD RECORDING!!!!😡
Maybe bad speakers?
