Loved it Leon! How the hell does Nuno not age? My favorite Nuno moments were watching him live and during insane solos he would yawn and cover his mouth with his right hand while his left hand finishes an insane legato run!
No doubt, the "GTFO" solo. But not the whole thing. lol The first third is bad ass. The tapped arps are super dope. But that last third is porn for guitarists. That little chromatic pattern with the drone gets me every time. Additionally, Nuno's pick attack is a technique unto itself.
My favorite Nuno moment isn’t even about his playing. It was when Anthony Keidis accused them of being a RHCP copy-cat band. Nuno’s response was something like “Aren’t those the guys who got big off a Stevie Wonder cover?”
7:40 - The ol' "Get The Funk Out" solo. Even Brian May agrees that it's amazing. lol Still breaks my heart that Extreme got lumped into the "hair metal" craze. They were/are a damn good rock band.
Nuno is easily in my top 5 guitar players, and I can't tell you how many times I've listened to their first two albums. And Leon, you did a fantastic job at that solo!
Nuno is just fantastic! His rhythm playing is as unique and killer as his solos. Unmistakable sound, his phrasing and licks are so recognizable. "Nunoism" is perfect - there are a lot of'em!
Man! YOU FREAKING NAILED THESE! For me, any of the first 5-6 songs on 3 Sides are my child hood. I grew up on that album. Warheads. Cupid, color me blind. Man! So good!
That's a great tribute to a great player and band. Oh, and the smile it puts on your face to share your Extreme story and play the music is so genuine and joy to watch.
Waiting for the Punchline line still is my fav Extreme album, cheers for mentioning Cynical. Also, Mike Mangini has such awesome Bonham style groove on that album. Love it
KILLED IT LEON! My favorite solo of al time! Thanks so much for covering Extreme. Such an underrated band and for some reason relatively unknown ( for some reason).
Awesome video! I would love to see a video where you break some Nuno riffs down and teach them. My favorite Nuno riffs are from “Suzi” and “Rest In Peace”. You would be an absolute legend for teaching them to us, and by us I mean me.
Awesome! Saw them in huge arenas but then caught them in a small club (the Ritz in Detroit) on the Waiting for the Punchline tour and was 2 feet from him the whole show just standing there shell shocked at his command and playing. So in the pocket but solid. Freaking LOUD too. LOL.
Man, you nailed those riffs! My favorites are from "It's a monster", "rest in piece", "suzie" and also the acoustic stuff from "whole hearted" and "midnight express"! Was waiting a long time for this episode. I'm not gay but if Nuno came calling, I'd be amenable..
Nuno is so underrated and I'm still bummed he kind of threw in the funk-metal towel after Waiting for the Punchline. The one I keep going back to is Decadent Dance. The rhythm playing, the swing and subtle variations in that one still blow me away. But even 'More than Words', if you look at the voicings, the timing, the flow of the guitar accompaniment on that whole song. It's a masterpiece.
Nuno really is an amazing player. He is very technically proficient while "Extremely" expressive. You did a nice job playing his stuff Leon. I would struggle with the lower tapping runs pretty bad. I've never been much of a tapper.
Wow, I absolutely love Nuno AND his playing 😏. I've heard a lot of people play his riffs but it's the first time I've seen anyone nail the rhythm. Fantastic! You made it look effortless and so much fun. Cheers!
Finally another 5 killer riffs 🤘🏻 props for playing the get the funk out solo, that one is just, extreme... Looking forward to a video with some TnT riffs.
All those songs you picked are awesome , I remember when i 1st heard get the funk out , It blew me and my friends away , One forgotten song i would throw in is Play with me , The solo and licks in that song are very cool.
Nuno was and still is extremely underrated. His name doesn't come up in enough circles when naming top players of this century. Him a Vito Brata are 2 guys I feel like were just completely overlooked as world beaters. Nuno's sense of time and space on guitar is so good. I've yet to hear anyone since that has that PHAT tone and super catchy rhythms both.
I remember getting the first self titled Extreme LP when it was released back in 1989 and putting it on and being blown away by the opening "Little Girls" riff and then, 5 tracks in the face melting intro to "Mutha" comes on followed by the main song riff which is IMHO one of the greatest of all time (despite being a pretty shameless VH homage). Nuno sadly arrived 5 years too late on the scene and as a result is very underrated outside the "guitar scene".
It doesn't get any better than you know, I remember just how floored and amazed I was the first time watching Bill and Ted in the theater, and yes I'm old hahaha and do you want to play cranked up in the mall scene.... Bumblebee is fierce!!, I was hooked I was hooked I was hooked
Nuno is my favourite guitarist and my biggest influence of mine too, plus Pornograffitti is my all time favourite album. It's hard to only think top 5 as he has so many killers riffs but I'll give it my shot to do a top 5 and here it is... 1. Warheads (main riff) 2. It's A Monster (main riff) 3. Get The Funk Out (verse riff) 4. Pornograffitti (intro riff) 5. He Man Woman Hater (main riff)
@LeonTodd As we have always talked........I have met Nuno Bettencourt many a time and worked two of the three Rhianna shows he came through here in Detroit. One of those shows me and Nuno were hanging out at his guitar station/vault stage left and he actually handed me the famous N4!!!
Nuno reminds me a lot of Jackie Chan. Let me explain. Jackie was around just when Bruce Lee hit stardom. Bruce overshadowed the immense talent of Jackie until many years after they both hit the movie screen. I find the same with Nuno and EVH. EVH was such an innovator and changed the guitar world. No question. I strongly believe that Nuno did as well, but he never really got the same level of accolades. I prefer Nuno to EVH in every way. Sorry folks, but Nuno is just as much of a genius as EVH was. RIP Eddie.
Nuno is definitely a quadruple threat. They man can easily turn you gay, while he could also be a lead singer any day of the week, his guitar skills are beyond belief and his style is as unique as it gets (you can tell its him by the first 5 notes)....On my top 5 guitarists of all time by a mile.
My favourite Nuno thing is his album "Schizophonic". Almost zero guitar heroics, but stunning songs and amazing singing. That album made it perfectly clear, that Nuno is much more than "just" a brilliant guitar-player.
My favourite nuno's riff : 1.warhead 2.politicalamity 3.color me blind 4.peacemaker die 5.decadence dance 6.Li'l jack horny 7.pornografitti 8.he-man woman hater 9.suzi 10.there is no god 11.cynical 12.leave me alone 13.evilangelist 14.shadow boxing 15.fair-weather faith 16.waiting for the punchline ✌✌
Love that He man Woman hater riff! Something Nuno does differently than how you’re playing it is on that pinch harmonic on the 4th fret, Nuno only bends it up and lets go/mutes it instead of adding vibrato. Try it out and I think you’ll agree it sounds more like the original that way. Cheers!
There is no depth of Nuno worship I won't stoop to. I reckon the riff on the title track of Punchline is about as heavy, disorienting and scary as anything I've heard. Works so well with Gary's world-falling-apart, clown-loses-his-mind vocal.
I remember being in high School (i was into guitar since just 2 years) and my guitar Teacher gave me Pornograffiti I maybe listened to it 100.00000 times (not joking)to the point the CD got broken I had to buy a new one. Everyday I was just playing the Guirar with Pornograffiti as backing track trying to emulate Nuno's Riffs and Solo
FYI Ben Eller has a video about "He Man..." riff and the weird picking/hammer on from nothing percussive part on the low strings. I think he has it figured out. Edit here it is: ruclips.net/video/oj5CiLzjL74/видео.html
Preciate the nuno love. One of the best and most unique musicians to pick up a guitar, wasn’t fond of the tone you went with to reinterpret his riffs though. Sounds to heavily effected and a bit muddy to my ears. I’m shocked you don’t have an N4 to nail his tone. Great video though.
Could you imagine Nuno, Andy James, Aquilles Priester, Victor Wooten, and, Any decent vocalist creating music?? Not sure why that line up just crossed my mind. One can dream.😏 💪🇺🇸🇨🇦💪
Favourite Nuno moment?
When Brian May said the solo from Get The Funk Out is the best guitar solo in history! 🤘😎
Loved it Leon! How the hell does Nuno not age? My favorite Nuno moments were watching him live and during insane solos he would yawn and cover his mouth with his right hand while his left hand finishes an insane legato run!
No doubt, the "GTFO" solo. But not the whole thing. lol
The first third is bad ass.
The tapped arps are super dope.
But that last third is porn for guitarists.
That little chromatic pattern with the drone gets me every time.
Additionally, Nuno's pick attack is a technique unto itself.
'Do you Wanna Play' is a pretty insane Nuno moment 🤘
Fav moment is how he insisted in playing a fender combo with a microphonic tube on waiting on the punchline cause the added character
My favorite Nuno moment isn’t even about his playing. It was when Anthony Keidis accused them of being a RHCP copy-cat band. Nuno’s response was something like “Aren’t those the guys who got big off a Stevie Wonder cover?”
LOL
AHAHAHAHA
Anthony would be flat out having half Nuno's talent. The RHCP have become an incredibly uninteresting band.
Man, Nuno was the reason that I started playing guitar. Thanks for the fantastic demo as always. Cheers!
7:40 - The ol' "Get The Funk Out" solo. Even Brian May agrees that it's amazing. lol
Still breaks my heart that Extreme got lumped into the "hair metal" craze. They were/are a damn good rock band.

Nuno is just fantastic! His rhythm playing is as unique and killer as his solos. Unmistakable sound, his phrasing and licks are so recognizable. "Nunoism" is perfect - there are a lot of'em!
Nunoism needs to enter the vernacular
My Sunday is going to be filled with Extreme!
Waiting for the Punchline line still is my fav Extreme album, cheers for mentioning Cynical. Also, Mike Mangini has such awesome Bonham style groove on that album. Love it
Great album!! Highly underrated.
Epic breakdowns, man! Feel like this list isn’t complete without “Peacemaker Die” though. It’s a guitarist’s love letter to other guitarists.
I agree ......
KILLED IT LEON!
My favorite solo of al time! Thanks so much for covering Extreme. Such an underrated band and for some reason relatively unknown ( for some reason).
Nuno is an absolute force of nature. He plays flawlessly live too
Nuno is just amazing. He has the best rythm sensibilities. Just great stuff.
You killed it man. Nailed it. 🤘♥️🤘♥️🤘
One of the best guitarists with his own sound.
YEEESSSSS - I love those riffs, and you serve them so well. So funky, so chunky - it is just awesome. I loved every bit of it.
LOL.
Such a great opportunity to crack out the ADA MP-1 for the Pornograffiti tones and the Soldano for the 3 sides tones ;)

One of my favorites, It ('s a Monster)! Love the riff! Nuno is amazing. 🎸
Nuno also came up with glorious acoustic material!
Very much so!
Acoustic Nuno is my favorite 𝙽𝚞𝚗𝚘!
I loved all the little sexy cuts of Nuno interjected at points of emphasis of his solos
Wow, I absolutely love Nuno AND his playing 😏. I've heard a lot of people play his riffs but it's the first time I've seen anyone nail the rhythm. Fantastic! You made it look effortless and so much fun. Cheers!
Thankyou! I really appreciate that
My fav band of all time. your shed is sound authentic too. like it!
Nuno recorded the riff for Janet Jackson’s Black Cat which is relatively simple but amazing. His micro bends and articulation are everything.

I was going to mention the same thing, the first album was hard hitting! Kid Ego, Play with me, Teacher's pet...
I'm a simple man. I see a guitar channel praising Nuno, I like.
Also just got my N4 back from the luthier, had stainless steel frets put on!
N4 with stainless sounds like my ideal 80's shred machine
Nuno’s chops are so tasteful. Might be the real GOAT of the era. Cheers!!! 😊❤️👍🙏
Nuno’s solo on Rest In Peace is in my top 5 best guitar solos of all time! If Van Halen and Queen had a baby, it’d be Extreme!
That tapping run in GTFO is ludicrous. Three Sides is their magnum opus. It deserved so much more.
I love the very Eddie-influenced riff at the beginning of Mutha (part after the intro solo)
Got to see them live a few times they were incredible.
Epic playing mate! The half time breakdown riff in decadence dance is what made me want to learn guitar 20ish years ago
I can hear it in my head right now!
I love the riff on “tragic comic”, had a lot of air time when MTV was still a thing.ü
I really like Michael Nielsons video on Nunos Ada tone and at the end of it he does a heavy version of Whole Hearted that sounds fantastic.
I clicked as soon as I saw this!!!
Nuno is my favourite guitar player of all time!!
Great video. Would love to see you do more of these with Ratt/Dokken/Winger.
i was thinking exactly that
Ratt and Dokken are coming soon. I did Winger a little while back which was awesome
Nuno is the most unique player. Absolutely amazing
Get the funk out ,love it 🤘🏻🎸😎 I’m going to have to revisit that one 😎
It doesn't get any better than you know, I remember just how floored and amazed I was the first time watching Bill and Ted in the theater, and yes I'm old hahaha and do you want to play cranked up in the mall scene.... Bumblebee is fierce!!, I was hooked I was hooked I was hooked
What a time to be alive!
Hey... I understood that reference! lol
The fact that he can play that thing live is still amazing to me.
Nuno is my favourite guitarist and my biggest influence of mine too, plus Pornograffitti is my all time favourite album. It's hard to only think top 5 as he has so many killers riffs but I'll give it my shot to do a top 5 and here it is...
1. Warheads (main riff)
2. It's A Monster (main riff)
3. Get The Funk Out (verse riff)
4. Pornograffitti (intro riff)
5. He Man Woman Hater (main riff)
Nailing it!!
Learning while you laugh! 10/10
I love every album of extreme i grow with his music... It's time for nuno and band for a new album, last album rock de saudade is 2008 year!
I don't know what it is, but while I was watching the video, Nuno's face kept popping into my mind!
@LeonTodd As we have always talked........I have met Nuno Bettencourt many a time and worked two of the three Rhianna shows he came through here in Detroit. One of those shows me and Nuno were hanging out at his guitar station/vault stage left and he actually handed me the famous N4!!!
Whaaaaat
Keep up the great videos!!! And I hope you get a chance to meet Nuno!!!
@@LeonToddYep!!!He actually handed me the famous N4 at his at his guitar vault and gave me some personality made guitar picks.
@LeoTodd If you ever get chance to to meet Nuno you will love it. Obviously he seriously into the music but he's also comical.
@LeonTodd I've met Nuno many a time but when he pulled out the famous N4 and put it in my hand I almost teared up!!!
Top notch!
Nuno reminds me a lot of Jackie Chan. Let me explain. Jackie was around just when Bruce Lee hit stardom. 3 Sides to Every Story.....as soon as I heard Cupid's Dead I woke up to Nuno. Incredible player.
My favourite Nuno thing is his album "Schizophonic". Almost zero guitar heroics, but stunning songs and amazing singing. That album made it perfectly clear, that Nuno is much more than "just" a brilliant guitar-player.
Don't sleep on the self titled debut album folks. Virtually nonstop guitar gloriousness.
Whole in my heart - verse riff. 12 string.
My favourite riff from Nuno is the chorus riff on Suzi ( Wants Her All Day What? )
Nice one Leon;-)
Thanks for the visit! Hope you're well mate
@@LeonTodd Good thanks! BIG guitar sounds! Tripple tracked?
god i love nuno and extreme
I wouldn't say I'm an Extreme fan, but I'm definitely a Nuno fan.
My favourite nuno's riff :
1.warhead
2.politicalamity
3.color me blind
4.peacemaker die
5.decadence dance
6.Li'l jack horny
7.pornografitti
8.he-man woman hater

Nuno… is an alien. Confirmed.
Oh hell yeah! NUNOOOOOO
😊🙏

Didn't Dweezil Zappa play the intro solo to He Man? Great job as usual. Sounds killer in my monitors.
That He-Man Woman Hater riff 😮😮😮 Gotta go listen to it!
Hi, what´s the name of the song of the second Extreme riff?
There is no depth of Nuno worship I won't stoop to. I reckon the riff on the title track of Punchline is about as heavy, disorienting and scary as anything I've heard. Works so well with Gary's world-falling-apart, clown-loses-his-mind vocal.

Some little notes are wrong. ;) Nuno is a Master!!!!!! Solo with Get the funk out I played note to note. Love it!!! :)
Yeah I'm sure there's more than a few :D
@@LeonTodd not much ;)
I think is sounds just way too wrong without putting in those nuno faces xDDDD j/k great video, need to check out more of Extreme stuff

he man woman hater has one of the greatest songs in rock history

Lol Nuno, one of those sick humans that doesn't get invited to parties cause none want him near their ladies
🇨🇦🇦🇺🇺🇸 H O N K !
Nuno’s a legend… 🤘🏾🎸 Pornografitti album’s for me👍👍👍#staysafe
Favorite Nuno riff for me has to be Pornograffiti
I love Nuno, so underrated, was talking about him last night and actually called him Dreamboat 😳 😅
Ooooh’ decadence dance is SOOOOOO funky too.
5 Killer Riffs Metallica.
Nothing from the debut album...that's an omission...shame on you.
Bravo!
