Mattia Longhin and the wider windscreens that look realistic finally. Never been happy with windscreens for many types of LEGO cars. Most of the really good minifig scale models I see are all brick built windscreens
I'm not so sure myself, I've spent a good amount of time designing myself and I in fact believe LEGO designers have taken a few of my and others designs and used them officially and really 8 wide only suits very few designs and the shapes of the bricks themselves. they would have been far better off designing rooves and cockpit canopies that suit more forward designed cabins like on mid engine cars instead of going wider, in fact if anything 7 wide is a better scale but that itself has design problems being uneven
Pulzar it is good to have no more those expensive playsets, but i hope to still get some finis/start line and trophy stands. Nothing big, but something on the racing scene. And Of course Im happy to see those few part sidebuilds gone
I agree, and I bought extra parts to mod it to have opening doors, sleeker bonnet, and an opening engine cover with hidden engine block. Credit goes to legotuner33 of rebrickable for modifying it, I just bought the instructions from him.
Would be cool if they had like expansion pack pieces for the older models now to bring them into this. But probably would just end up being a whole new set haha
1:32 of course you can't print all, but Lego should at least print the headlights and car logos on the bonnet. The latest example is the Demon, the lights and grill on the 1x6 platte had to be a print, if that sticker is gone in year it looks just horrible. Same here with the headlights from the Ferrari, Lamborghini and Nissan.
But then you're stuck with a head light piece for you collection, with a sticker, you have the option to take it off and use it somewhere else other than a headlight.
FINALLY this scale is so much better. And thank goodness for real useable windscreens that won’t have to be brick built all the time for more exotic cars too.
So the only thing changed on the wheels is that they now have a pin hole instead of an axle hole. I wonder why that is? This will create much confusion with the old wheels that look exactly the same from the outside.
They cant just *make* one. They have to get licences which cost a lot of money and then map everything out for *KIDS* to build. These are *TOYS* targeted at *KIDS* they have to be easy to build. Even after all that the Terzo isnt even a real car so it's going to be even harder to make it look real.
I so love that LEGO is going to focus on the cars and leave out the garages and wind tunnels. The cars are what we all love. And since I don’t have a lego city, I love these new sizes; the cars can now be much more detailed and interesting!
Gtr is the worst/only offender in that regard. These wheels definitely call for 8 studs wide. I build models scaled around these wheels and they have all called for 8 studs wide.
honestly I think the size-up of the cars is a good idea, It just makes them look better in every way. What I am a bit disappointed by is the fact that without the stands, wind tunnels... etc, we might not see a nice display build like with the mini rallye set.
@@shredBucketheadshred I'd say the Audi, the GTR, the Trofeo and the Formula-E car are pretty easy to recognize. The Ferrari probably as well. And regarding the SUVs, I'd say give the designers some time. They're probably not used to building sporty SUVs, especially not with them being 8 studs wide.
@@changingnames6978 the Audi isn't bad tho nothing better than a 6 wide and the GTR would be just a brick without stickers and I myself have 6 wide designs that capture a GTR a lot better. I make the point that Lego bricks themselves just don't suit this scale, what worked as a headlight for example on a 6 wide would then look too small on an 8 wide yet too large if you were to use 2 bricks or tiles for the same job. this scale falls into a zone where brick building detail is difficult so they too heavily rely on stickers
@@shredBucketheadshred Again I'd like to disagree on the GTR, especially if you look at the rear. Though overall this is just a taste difference really. I prefer the new look, you prefer the old. Also like you've mentioned, you build mocs on your own so if you really want a GTR, a Ferrari and so on as a 6 stud wide then just go ahead and build one, no ones stopping you. Though if you do then I'd like to ask if I could see the finished product.
I love how you asked about the wheels that they were going to stay the same!!! I think they look way too small on most of the new models except the Ferrari and the Lamborghini's...
5:42 actually they are not to big. each lane on a road plate is 9 studs wide and I have made 8 stud wide lorries for my city. Also I don't use City road plates as I have created my own road with crossing islands in the middle of the road because we have a lot of these in England.
I build six stud wide cars, but they can still fit two minifigures side by side. Eight stud for sedan is too large for minifigure scale, and not fit with lego city.
@@eingekxckter how? in size only? why is that good? they loos subtle design features and rely on stickers for detail, they are bigger and blockier sure but not in any way more recognisable so any "realism" is lost but why is realism a bonus when these are toys to suit minigfigs?
@@eingekxckter But it doesn't mean that at all because the bricks and tiles themselves dictate what scale a model can be, and CLEARLY by the fact that they have NOT added more detail but instead LESS shows that is not the case. 8 wide is between subtitle scales for the bricks themselves , making headlights or gills is difficult at this scale whereas 6 wide the bricks are suitable and then the larger scale models are the next size up, 8 wide fall into a gap, its clear now the wheels look too small as a good example.
They need to get licences to be able to make them which cost a lot of money so I think you should just wait until something similar happens or just deal with it. Also Toyota arent giving their licences to many things now even though they gave in to forza.
yeah actually i think lots of car with 6 studs are actually to thick for me like the ford gt 2016, if it is designed as 8 studs, it would be more realistic. However they really not the same as the before 6 studs speed champion car.

Great video with nice questions. I understand why they change to wider body but I am not the happiest about it, yes they gain in realism but they lost on style. Will buy the Audi and Nissan for sure but there are so many great moc of the quattro in old speed champions style that prove the 8 wide studs were not completly necessary... I wish they make an optional build to switch to 8 from 6.
Well I can say to lego that they're work for this year's cars have been nothing short of outstanding. Very happy with proportions. Would like to see some cars like the audi r18 recreated with better proportions or other lmp1 cars
Lego city scale cars doesn't really do it for me. I'm glad they made these new 8 stud platforms, because yeah, 6 studs good for play. Thats all it's good for. But the 8 wide has accurate scale, is still playable. And it's art too. If you want it to be lol.
