Female gladiator and Great Dover Street

Today I'm back in South London and walking down Great Dover Street. This is a street that links Borough High Street to Bricklayers Arms which is a main junction for South East London. I see great housing estates on old Saxon mounds, old jam factories, great pubs. However, my imagination is tweaked with the supposed discovery of the grave and remains of a female Roman Gladiator. The claim is contested by no less than Dr Mary Beard! However, if it is true, then what a find. Anyway, it still allows me to imagine what Roman London might have been like! Fantasy or fact? Who knows?
