Thank you to everyone who watched this as a "premiere". Some really interesting comments from you all. I'm tempted to check all your suggestions out, and then include them in a future podcast. Congratulations to the 5 channel membership "winners".
Just found your channel. I got my first filofax a personal in racing green. I adored it. I never went anywhere without it. By the end of each year it would be bulging. I have shoeboxes with annual collections of the diaries and notes for each year. Nothing like opening a crisp new year diary. This year l am retiring and have invested in 2 saffino personal organizers. One for all my daily info etc and then the second one for my planning, expenses, finances, general household management. Love love love writing things down😊
What l did omit was the date. It was in 1986 when l was 28. Being a nurse my salary was not great so this purchase back then was quite an expensive one but oh so worth. It began my love affair with Filofax and also journaling❤
Thank you for sharing. Very well said. I am so happy to have found the system and put it to use. I remember using ring-bound books in school as a child and as I graduated the computer and then the internet took this out of the picture. Now thirty years later I am thrilled to be back.
That’s great feedback! Thanks for sharing. Although many of us use filofaxes I thought I’d make a video to encourage others to give ring binders a try.
Thanks for your video. I used Daytimer for about 15 years before going digital, now I'm getting fed up with technology and considering paper, also fallen in love with fountain pens! Cannot but Daytimer in Australia any more so Filofax or Debden seem the choices for 6 ring binders, still have a "luvly levver" binder to fill. So hello to those in old Blighty from here in the colonies 🙃
I really like this kind of video, which we could see your essencial collection of Filofaxes or notebooks and its features in one video. I already bought my Guildford extra slim because of your recommendation. Love it ❤! Thanks Neil😊
Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate it. Interestingly, I’m going to be making some videos in the coming months, where I compare different binders, and indeed notebooks. Health permitting, I hope to make more videos in 2024, than I did in 2023. Thank you again.
I used one at work for 25 years. Issue for longhand diary use is that the left hand page is tricky to use because of the rings' position against the writing hand
Just discovered your channel & so much enjoyed this content. I have 2 personal size Filofax - both in Ochre and around 8 years old. I would love an A5. I’ve not used my Filofax in a while because I’ve been using an Hobonichi Cousin. However, after watching this video I’ll be bringing out my personal size tomorrow until I can purchase an A5.
Hiya, that was so right what you said there, I think writing it down and being creative in a filofax or journal is much more personal, more tactile and for me feels more permanat somehow and so easy to add to or change. Although I think technology has a place, give me pen and paper any day. Jayne x
Such a great video! You covered everything I could think of, and more. My main perk is that it's a loose-leaf system so I can tinker with my setup until I finally reach that elusive planner peace. I also like that I can make my own inserts and dividers, and I actually even made my own organiser (there's a video on my channel)! I appreciate not everyone has the tools, time, and skills for this.
Thank you for a great and very informative video. I, too, am addicted to paper planning. I initially started with a DayTimer, then over several years' time, advanced to a FiloFax. I'm sure you've seen the Charles Grodin movie "Taking Care of Business" that showcases the constant use of a paper planner. I'm not a fan of using my phone, it's not something that you can keep when it's in your phone, like the satisfaction of putting the planner away at the end of the year. New subscriber - I look forward to your next video. Best regards from the Land of Enchantment (New Mexico, USA). Happy Summer!
Also, on the digital-analogue thought train a Filofax, if lost, is gone and so has everything in it. No chance of recovery from a backup, the cloud, or anything else.
You're absolutely right. Personally, I tend to have two [a[er records, in separate locations, and then back that up with phots of my paper based records, that are then stored in the cloud and on a portable hard drive; but that may be overkill for most people. I do find it amazing that everything I've ever written, in my entire lifetime, could fit on a single 500gb SD card, when my first "works" laptop had just a 20mb hard drive! Thanks for your input. I may discuss the issues you raise in a future podcast.
That’s certainly a multi-layered backup approach, if I did that I’d never actually get anything done, I’d be too busy maintaining the backup system! I, like you, find all this stuff interesting but I do worry that many people, myself included, think too much about the systems and not enough about the actual doing. I was guilty, at school, of constantly producing revision timetables instead of actually revising 😂 A system is only as good as the actual action it brings about, when it all becomes just about the system we just end up shuffling things around and getting nowhere.
As you can see from my videos, I'm very focussed on paper based productivity, and how these analogue systems not only have a place in todays society, and indeed should be considered by many. But I have a foot in the digital world too. Many thanks for your input. I appreciate it.
I agree with much that you say and I have a strong connection to the analogue approach, however….. A fundamental negative I always hit up against is the loss of the powerful search facility offered by digital solutions these days, especially for notes, journals, diaries, and pretty much anything else.
I agree that "search" is a problem. Personally, for complex data where search is a requirement, I go digital. But for data where a simple search is required, such as looking for details of a specific company I del with, an alphabetically organised paper based system is preferable.
Each to his or her own for sure but for me finding a contact in a digital system is one hell of a lot quicker and easier than going through a Filofax record. I have maybe 800 digital “contacts” and they are not even all names I know but I can search for say “electrician” which will be in the contact notes and out will pop any listed electricians, I’d find this impossible in just a Filofax. That said I do keep my important contacts in paper form in case of a disaster 😂
😀@@Flatability Most of them are just relics from previous communications and I've just done some pruning! I've worked out a way of converting my personal digital contacts into a personal analogue address book. Printed it onto A5, punched it, and added it to my Filofax. I'll just write on the backs of the pages and reprint maybe every 12 months so at least if there is a digital disaster I've still got all the information.
After watching many of your videos, I decided to buy some leather pockets on Etsy (I think it’s the best place). Thanks for the tips. Is A7 the name, or how else can I find them on Etsy?

5:37 is that faux leather ? I got same one with inserts from 1985 in a used clothing store for 3,5euro.
I would love to see a video about different binder sizes for different purposes. From pocket to A4 size. It will be interesting.
I got my first Filofax now🎉 hope it will accompany me for many years
That's great! I hope you enjoy using your filofax and maybe buy a few more too perhaps :-)
Thank you for your feedback; I appreciate it.

Thank you so much. I appreciate that.

I love your video! My Filofax will return to use today!
That’s awesome!

Yet another video i will watch a couple of times! Really enjoyed this, thanks Neil 😊
Glad you enjoyed it. And thank you for your feedback.
I'm planning a few more videos like this.
These are all great ideas. Thanks for sharing! Peace and love..Suz What ☮️💛

My oldest one is a Finsbury Pocket sized 24 years old

Spot on!
Amazing video, I was doubting about the filofax or the bullet journal. A now I’ll definitely go for a filofax with bullet journal layout 😊
That's awesome!

Lovely video thank you I’m so impressed with the amount you have I would love to have a black personal one!
Thank you for your feedback. I wish you well, in your quest to find your perfect filofax.
What's the name of the brown leather planner from the late 1970's you held up with the alphabetical index. ??
It’s a Golunski, made in England. Ultra high quality, but little known.
Many thanks ... I spent an hour searching for a Glynski.. wasn't having much luck...😅
❤your Chanel . You also has such a calm voice
Thank you for your kind words.

How about number 11, a paper journal doesn't need the battery recharged!
Good point.

Thanks for watching the videos. I appreciate it. The a7 is just the paper size. Best thing is to just look for Filofaxes
Excellent 💫

Thank you so much!
Have you tried moterm covers?
Not yet.
Where do I get me a Guildford Mini Extra Slim?
I got my two examples on eBay.
Difficult to come by, but worth persevering.
@@Flatability In your opinion then is there a modern equivalent say in a similar size?
@nw8000 Yes there is. Check out a Plotter “Mini 5”.
Rollerball :)
I only buy vintage Filofaxes now because for some time now, the ring mechanisms are terrible and unreliable.
I hear you 👍
Same here & vintage leather looks/feels so GOOD!
Buy moterm and you can change the rings
