I still think that the streak should have ended in that match for the title against DDP, because think about how much of a boost ending the streak and beating Goldberg clean would give DDP? Also if he, say, beats Goldberg clean as a sheet with the Diamond Cutter, think of how much that move would be built up.
I don't remember where in his run it was, but I remeber the crew I got together with every Monday night in 97-98 noticed on time his win streak from week to week jumped by something like 22, and that was when the suspension of disbelief broke for us on that win count being accurate even with house shows.
Actually that's not really true the wind streak when actually when he had like 90 wins it was actually pretty accurate the numbers were actually only off by about 6 or 7 wins and when he did the nwo invitational Battle Royal that's when the numbers got messed up because they counted everyone in that match as an individual win and it messed everything up but if you watched the reliving war on wrestling Biles he actually keeps track of it he does it every week and he counts every match and up to that point they were only off by like I think it was 7 or 8 so it wasn't really that much of a distinction until that Battle Royal n then they lost their damn minds
I think more people were watching Cinemax scrambled at the time. We used to call it Skinemax for obvious reasons. I wish people paid attention to everything Bret did AFTER the match, for the following weeks & months, rather than just acting like Goldberg just ended Bret's career. Even Bret admitted this several years ago, back when he was in one of his "I get along with Bill," phases. Bret's known to go back & forth on the people he hates, his opinions on things, and various relationships, but at that point he acknowledged just getting kicked wasn't what ended his career. And nor should it have been. Wrestlers get injured all the time, accidents happen extremely often, and many times they're far more severe. Sting was in his 50's when Rollins broke his back, now is in his 60's still doing matches. Owen Hart nearly ended Austin's career breaking his neck with a botched tombstone. Saraya (aka "Paige") went limp & couldn't move her legs mid-match after Sasha Banks botched a move, ending her career... except she's back. The difference is these people got help & didn't continue to wrestle or perform. They didn't immediately keep doing things & instantly sought medical help. Bret went 9 months before seeing a doctor about things? I love Bret, but he's bitter towards a LOT of people. I just think in it's annoying that in such a dangerous business, he's back to making one person out to be a villain (which some fans accept & repreach like gospel). If Seth Rollins was treated the same way by everyone he injured, he wouldn't be the star he is today. It was a crappy situation, but it was an accident.
An avoidable accident with proper training, he didn't complete Power Plant training because of crowd great reaction in dark matches. He didn't understand wrestling psychology at all! WCW Ultimate Warrior version! Refused to face Jericho in WCW. A veteran!! Because of his size, show complete disrespect for traditions as a newcomer.
@@TeeKoon They're almost always avoidable accidents. It's stupid to blame Goldberg for Bret being an idiot and continuing to compete after a head injury.
Interesting note - As a kid I had that Halloween Havoc '98 home video release on VHS . Throughout the early portion of the show, they kept mentioning that they had Meng vs Wrath on the card, but it was nowhere to be found on the VHS release. I had never seen the show prior to that and was a newer fan, so I didn't realize until I was older that they cut Meng/Wrath along with Lodi/Saturn and Alex Wright/Finlay so they could fit Hogan/Warrior and the DDP/Goldberg main event (Goldberg's best match IMO) on the tape in their entirety because of what happened with the live feed getting cut when it originally aired as a result of all 5-6 matches with the bigger names all running 12-15 minutes on a 2 1/2 hour show. Lol even Disco Inferno took up about 20 minutes of ring time on that show.
If they didn't add so many unannounced matches and Nitro Girls routines to Halloween Havoc, they wouldn't have been in the predicament they were in with the time. Just a poorly timed show that's entirely WCW's fault
@@TravJam317 You are absolutely right. I also forgot about the Nitro Girls segment. It's like they had no Idea how to time out a 2hr+ show. Every minute counts. I want Bro-straps to be a thing... Also, Sid at that time was a former World Champion and was full of muscles, Jericho was a technically sound "Cruiserweight." Goldberg would feel different.
Yeah, but the Jericho feud would have just been Jericho hounding Goldberg for a bit and then getting absolutely squashed in a PPV match. Jericho’s status shouldn’t figure into it, just his ability to annoy Goldberg and lead to a big payoff of getting his comeuppance.
I remember watching the Thunder that the title match was announced on. Being a wrestling fan I was excited for the match. The other people in the room (non fans) just looked at me as if I had three heads. I was 14 at the time.
very minor correction. Bugs Bunny always took a wrong turn at Albuquerque he didn't travel to there. So a more correct line would have been "bugs bunny traveling through" . This is not important I just watch too much Looney Tunes.
I was 12 years old during that peak Goldberg run and in was all in on him, Kevin Nash, and Sting. The Fingerpoke of Doom basically killed off my WCW fandom and I switched to WWF thereafter. I think I was just sick of the bad guys winning all the time back then, and in WCW, the nWo ruled everything.
Yeah , it became a joke after that. At least have a legitimate match to crown a new champion. I know it’s scripted but an actual match between Hogan and Nash would have been great to see. You could still have Hogan win but make it look like he earned it.

I'm not sure anyone here cares, but the Goldberg monster truck swept the Monster Jam world finals in 2001, two days before the WCW company folded. It's kind of poetic
I remember all of this. I started watching WCW right around the time Goldberg was getting his push, and I was behind him 100%. I remember being so over the NWO and viewing Goldberg as the one guy who could endure their shenanigans and find a way to give them their much deserved beatdown.

Thanks Bryan. Putting it in wrestling world, for me it's like skipping wrestler entrance, which I think you should have. People can press forward if they want

1:55 you missed a "golden" opportunity to splice in the " i love gold" line from Austin Powers. Btw: Hogan only put Goldberg over due to the fact the executives were there and he wanted a contract extension.
When I was a teen and WCW was at it's peak he was my favorite wrestler. The explosive energy, the power, that entrance... he was amazing. But then you learn years later he's actually a rudimentary wrestler who gasses out way too easily. And then it just gets more embarassing from there...

And he would have to mention the tag match with Muta vs Kronik, where he started his ring entrance from across the street from the arena, walked to the arena a mile down the road, went to his locker, got changed, then did his traditional ring walk...all the while Muta is sitting there in the ring with Kronik.
Don't forget Goldberg vs. Naoyo Ogawa in HUSTLE. We could've also had Goldberg vs. Toshiaki Kawada if the hand injury thing didn't happen.
Was it good?
Brians first insert wrestler in WCW episode in over 3 years. The last time Brian did one of these Roman was a couple months away from becoming Universal Champion. 3 years later he's still in the sane reign. Let that sink in y'all
Was the Roddy Piper episode that long ago? Or is there another one I’m forgetting.
@@gabepollock1641Mike Awesome
@@BlackPuma124 Damn, that one came across my feed earlier today and I assumed it was more recent than that.
Congratulations to Goldberg on being the first one to receive 2 videos on his run in --- series
i'm pretty sure he did the ultimate warrior's run in wcw and wwf
@@splatstick well technically the was the warrior in 1996 not his full wwf run
He should make it 3 and do his second run in WWE too
The fact that it’s nearly been another decade since his 2016 return really makes me feel old
Time moves too fast
its still 3 years away
Goldberg and his run to the world championship is legit arguably the best if not, one of the best storylines I've ever seen. His winning streak was just unreal and it shows that a guy doesn't need to have awesome mic skills in order to get over. Nobody saw someone like him coming. That was what's so great about it. How it ended was how he lost the world championship at Starrcade and then it was just that a downward spiral from there,he never won the world championship ever again in WCW.
Uh...yes he did. Three times.
@@williammccormick984I’m talking WCW dude that’s what the video was about.
No mic skills, no wrestling skills. Matches only consisted of two moves. Still the biggest wrestler WCW created during that era. The 90s were wild
@@AnhDonoi2 moves lol. What dumb silliness. So his pioneering use of MMA techniques, and creative power slams just didn't happen huh?
As a ten-year-old Goldberg fan, he was someone you could believe in. Like a real-life Superman. You wanted to see him win. It just felt right, somehow. You could tell your drunk, abusive uncle that "If Goldberg were here, you wouldn't be so tough."
Being green was a part of that. When he made a mistake, he just went back to his football mindset and just hit a guy real hard.
Goldberg definitely works best when it's just arrive, Spear, Jackhammer, win and leave.
So he works best when he literally just doesn’t work.
@@ryanjohansson8950That is working
@@ryanjohansson8950Well his stamina was never his strong suit.
@@ryanjohansson8950yeah, that's the idea
@@claytonrios1 He didn’t have any strong suits. He was a one-note guy who did the same thing every time, barely worked more than 90 seconds and still managed to injure people anyway.
Vinny Mac really dropped the ball with Ken Shamrock. The man had everything to be a proper pro wrestling superstar
Vinny Mac was, still is, and will always be a sick, depraved man, but he was right to hold Ken Shamrock back. Ken Shamrock did not have everything. He was great in the ring but couldn't cut a promo. Try watching his promos from 96-99. As what Mick Foley (or Mr. Socko) said, "I've seen Ken Shamrock's interviews, and believe me, their brutal!"
Yeah you got to be able to talk , that’s for sure
@@MeaCulpa04You literally don't. This whole video is about a guy who achieved white hot success without talking. Before his run, Sting spent a year and a half silently taking everyone out. WCW trounced WWF for almost 2 straight years by pushing silent killers back to back.
@@burntvirtue in the era of wwe you definitely DID have to be trusted to cut a promo somehow someway. Bill came from wcw where it wasn’t near as required and he was already built up.
I think they did ruin him. It wasn't that the Streak ended, had to at some point, but the manner that it did and the subpar follow up didn't help. Add in that heel turn and him being taken out in the final months leaves a lot of murkiness to his WCW career.
But we can't get it twisted, Big Billy Goldberg was a star and at his peak, as over with people as anyone in wrestling. Great video like always!
Page should have beaten the streak.
@@jamelwright3234agreed he was the 2nd move over star besides Goldberg
He was nowhere near as over as Steve Austin.
he was even more over in 98 then austin beat him almsot every time they were promoted on same night his quarter hour ratings most time higher then austin there is video bout it@@Rob_Thorsman
I still think that the streak should have ended in that match for the title against DDP, because think about how much of a boost ending the streak and beating Goldberg clean would give DDP? Also if he, say, beats Goldberg clean as a sheet with the Diamond Cutter, think of how much that move would be built up.
"Remember how cool they were? Let's do it again but worse!" That would look good on a WWW t-shirt.
WCW did Goldberg Dirty after Starrcade 1998
Yup
Goldberg did Bret Hart dirty at the same event a year later
What a coincidence, WWE just uploaded the Road Wild Battle total, where Goldberg was THE WORLD CHAMPION and he wasn't even defending the title.
I have a respect for Goldberg and him knowing his strengths
I wonder how many people watching understand what Brian means when he said he watched Starrcade "scrambled" 😂
Only if you were born before 2000.
I think more people were watching Cinemax scrambled at the time. We used to call it Skinemax for obvious reasons. We didn’t have easy access to the internet back then and even if you did, there were few videos then. The seamless video playback we have now didn’t exist then, download speeds were painfully slow back then.
You had to use your imagination alot back in those days 😂
Cable scrambled the pictures not audio,
Goldberg's WCW Run was awesome turning him Heel was a terrible idea glad that didn't last long best part of Goldberg's run in WCW was when he destroyed Sid's Car sid Yelling Goldberg was absolutely hilarious awesome Video Brian.
Thanks for that Brian because I was legit wondering what the thumbnail was for WCW Sin.
Sin wearing buff Bagwells hat is still a top tier joke to me
Love Brian Zane’s little Easter eggs
Crazy thing is I read years ago that if they would have just contacted the ppv provider, letting them know they'd run a litttle long, they probably would have been fine smh.
Kevin Nash breaking the streak only to then 2 weeks later producing the finger poke of Doom along with Hulk Hogan Is the embodiment as to why you should never let the inmates run the asylum
It didn’t end up putting butts in the seats.
22:17 didn’t realise that thumbnail was a Final Fantasy reference, or that Zane had any experience with FF. The more you know!
Goldberg was like a character in a video game with almost maxed out stats

I've always wanted to go back and watch WCW from the beginning but it's kinda difficult to schedule it. I really appreciate these history lessons, Brian! ❤️
Reliving the War on the Wrestling Bios RUclips channel has been a real treat. It's fun to relive those old WCW moments
same.
I have attempted to do so for the Bryan and Vinny classic show and I cheat a little bit and fast forward shit.
I never realized how much I wanted the Goldberg face for the Batman transition.
Bucket list item for sure
I want Bro-straps to be a thing... Also, Sid at that time was a former World Champion and was full of muscles, Jericho was a technically sound "Cruiserweight." Goldberg would feel different.
Sounds like something Matt Riddle would say
Yeah, but the Jericho feud would have just been Jericho hounding Goldberg for a bit and then getting absolutely squashed in a PPV match. Jericho’s status shouldn’t figure into it, just his ability to annoy Goldberg and lead to a big payoff of getting his comeuppance.
@@fishingmule3266 I think Goldberg (and others) was short sighted and just didn't wanna give Jericho a bigger platform in WCW.
I remember watching the Thunder that the title match was announced on. Being a wrestling fan I was excited for the match. The other people in the room (non fans) just looked at me as if I had three heads. I was 14 at the time.
1:56 Gotta appreciate Z Man for giving love to Spandau Ballet’s other hit😂
Wasn't that Power Plant the place that made Batista puke and leave training?
very minor correction.
I always forget the Mankind spoiler and finger poke were the same show
Bret's number one fan, his cat Smokey, was more than happy about The Hitman finally getting the WCW world title.
Goldberg coming out to Spandau Ballet would have been something 😂
Scrambled. Damn that brought back some memories. Once during an entrance by Glacier the PPV came in clear as a bell and stated that way through the entire show. I was so happy. I remember running into the living room and telling my dad. He swapped over to it and we watched it together just like Nitro. RIP dad.
Did people seriously not get that Final Fantasy 10 reference?! That's one of my favorite thumbnails.
My friend’s dad’s name is Bill Goldman and I always think of him when I hear Bill Goldberg which is funny because they’re both bald too 😂
1:50 ABSOLUTE CINEMA ✋😐🤚🎥
I was in college during this streak..having been reintroduced to wrestling by virtue of my dorm finally being wired for cable. This was a great time (aside from my grades). I lived in an all male dorm...and Monday nights were echoes of Nitro and Raw up and down the halls...too bad about the lousy booking
I wonder what that dorm was like during the Invasion Era. Lol

Back up. Ted turner?
I heard that rumour that the chants were piped in which I’m not surprised because Wwe did the same thing.
Just realized the original song the UK's Matt Riddle song is based off of 😂
Goldberg refusing to work an angle with Jericho showed what little instincts he had about the business. It was an easy paycheck - satisfyingly squash a clownish heel, get a big pop from the crowd, get yourself over, get paid. He chose to do none of it. What a fool.
I'm a huge mark for Bret's hate for Goldberg. It pops me every time.
As someone who saw Goldberg in his prime live. The Goldberg chants were definitely Legit
The streak should have been broken by Bam Bam when he joined WCW
Just like how Bam Bam beat up Taz in ECW.
Fun fact; The Giant lost a third of all the matches in the streak to Goldberg.
Including house shows and dark matches.
Wasn't a huge Goldberg fan, but WCW really dropped the ball with him, long term. Love the channel, keep up the awesome work!!
Beautiful said 💯🤙🏼💯
What song is that? 1:56
Absolutely LOVE these style of videos you do, (wrestler’s name) in (company) , always an awesome/fun video! Another home run with this one!! 💪
I'm not sure anyone here cares, but the Goldberg monster truck swept the Monster Jam world finals in 2001, two days before the WCW company folded. It's kind of poetic
That spandau ballet song got a huge pop out of me
@10:35 What is that target looking symbol on cartoon Brian Zane’s head?
I remember all of this. I started watching WCW right around the time Goldberg was getting his push, and I was behind him 100%. I remember being so over the NWO and viewing Goldberg as the one guy who could endure their shenanigans and find a way to give them their much deserved beatdown.
To be fair, they probably could of chanted “Bill Gold” to the same cadence as the “gold-berg” chant.
Okay best video ever for the Spandau Ballet ref.
you should do a video on Jeffs TNA heel run!
‘Struck gold - Bill Gold’ is an underrated banger
A 60s Batman and 80s Spandau Ballet reference all in the first two minutes? Sir, you have outdone yourself.
Hi, I watching wrestling with wregret for quite a while and it is my personal thing, but I think there is no need to making short openings. You have great openings clips and more important for me great music.
With all my love and respect for Bryan and his chanel, I really like openings 😂😅
Thanks Bryan. Putting it in wrestling world, for me it's like skipping wrestler entrance, which I think you should have. People can press forward if they want
Thanks for clearing up the Sin pic always wondered
Many fans (myself included) felt the rolls should've been reversed for New Blood vs. Millionaires Club.
New Blood should've been Babyfaces and Millionaires Club should've been heels.
I would like to see Adam do that story
OSW is covering the time TNA tried your suggestion.
Sting fails to heel it up, and the bland baby faces look like indie marks thanks to the charisma of the heel main eventers.
But Booker is having the time of his life.

Facts, not to mention the basic name of "Millionaires Club" feels more like a heel name than a babyface name.
1:55 you missed a "golden" opportunity to splice in the " i love gold" line from Austin Powers.
Btw: Hogan only put Goldberg over due to the fact the executives were there and he wanted a contract extension.
The most unforgettable part was him kicking Bret’s head off..unforgettable because Bret will not let anyone forget!
Well it did ruin Bret's career and Goldberg has never exactly been overly apologetic about it...

When I was a teen and WCW was at it's peak he was my favorite wrestler. The explosive energy, the power, that entrance... he was amazing.
But then you learn years later he's actually a rudimentary wrestler who gasses out way too easily. And then it just gets more embarassing from there...
Super grateful for your voice in professional wrestling. Thanks for the consistent quality videos/analysis.
At least he got to eat a lot of paper
This is why you don't try to use real auto glass in a wrestling skit regardless of the day but especially on Saturdays.
I don't know why I wanted to say this but I've just had the need to say that for some reason these past two days or so.
The first time I ever saw WCW programming (thanks for making it so difficult Canada) was that moment with Bret, the plate and Goldberg and as a huge fan of Bret but also just being amazed by Goldberg's presence I was hooked. Well, as hooked as I could be with how hard it could be to watch in Canada (Thanks for making it so difficult Canada! :D)
I had to buy a big dish to see it, because of WWE monopolistic hold on TV broadcast and cartoon post WM! AWA was a while on TSN. Stampede too!
