For me it was yes and no. Severe mental issues and inability to properly regulate my emotions led me to overeat as a very young child before I could understand what i was doing. As an adult its hard but i need to realize that its a choice now. Nobody was around to help me then, but i gotta learn to cope better now. Its a fine line but once youre aware you have to make a choice

You are absolutely correct. I was similar. I used food to cope as well and didn’t take control of it until I was 38. It started with therapy. Thin people and people who never had weight issues think that solving weight issues begins in the gym, but it really begins with getting your mental health in check and figuring out why food is your coping mechanism and what you can do to change that. I’m glad you are aware now. If you ever need anything, please feel free to reach out! You are not alone in this at all.

Just keep in mind that you don’t have to be 100% perfect everyday. You just have to be at least 51% so you are at least moving slowly towards your goal. Knowing that you don’t have to be perfect should hopefully take some pressure off of the whole weight loss process. You don’t need to lose it all tomorrow, but anything you do that helps get you closer to your goal is progress, and that includes your mental fitness, which is the most important.

Great video! It's nice to see someone who was fat react to these videos. It hits differently than when people who have never been fat react. They have no idea what the struggle was like and it does not come from an authentic place.

Thanks so much! Yeah I have a lot of experience being fat, unfortunately. About 40 years. It was time to retire from it. 😂

Side note BMR is the bottom end of calories you need for basic functioning, TDEE is what gives you the maintenance calories etc based on height, weight, activity level etc!
As for it being a choice, I don’t think it’s ONE choice, it’s a lot of choices and habits built up over time that eventually lead to whichever body. You can choose to change those habits and such ultimately of course & those choices can change your body but it’s not as simple as “I choose fat” or “I choose skinny”. And then genetically there are other things, like I will never be very skinny, my frame just isn’t that. I can be thinner than I am but I’m never going to be a size 00 if that makes sense. People have different body shapes and sizes naturally, the thing they don’t get is that bodies are not naturally 400 lbs, extreme weights aren’t a natural part of body diversity.

One other thing on the average situation the absolute heaviest people are included in that average, which would bring that weight up, so they use “average” as if the majority of people are their size but if we had the median size we’d probably find that it was lower than we’d think based off of the average. Like if you think of being out in the world, the majority of people you see aren’t obese usually. Like when I go to the store I don’t see a majority of people being big like that.

Yes! 100% to that! That’s what body positivity is. I’m the same way. I’m not fat anymore, but I’ll never be thin. I would live to be, but I’m not built that way. My lower body is too built up from carrying a lot of weight for 38 years. I have big legs and a big butt. Solid, but big. I don’t like it, but it’s what I have and that is what body positivity was meant to be for. The things that we were not able to change and learning to accept it and work with what we have. I learned that to make myself happy with my body type, I need to keep my upper body bigger so I look more balanced and that has helped a lot with my own body perception. I would still choose a thin body if I could choose one, but since I can’t, I’ll make the one that I have the best that it can be. I wish I thought about this when I was younger, it would have saved a lot of self hatred and self sabotage for sure. That’s what I wish I could get through to a lot of people.

@@LifeAfterLosing I wish I had the cajones & the direction/focus to start a channel myself so I think it’s great that you’re out here trying to show people that another way exists! I run, so I’m definitely not going to get rid of the muscular legs I have learned to live with it. 😂

@lissa3046 it’s not easy. I’m not the best at it for sure, but I am learning and getting better. My issue is that I’m almost paralyzed by shyness in front of the camera so I have to psych myself up to record. I do much better when I’m with someone else and I am not the focus. I wanted to do something to make myself come out of my shell and force myself to be more comfortable in uncomfortable situations. It has helped me at work a lot as well. You should try it! If you ever want to do a video together to test the waters we can do that too!
