False. He, along with a host of 9/11 liberals, have given intellectual heft to the idea of committing violence towards Muslims. In the time that Sam Harris has railed against There have been genocides against 4 distinct Muslim populations with the Western world's acceptance: The Uighurs, the Rohingya, Yemen, Syria and now the people of Gaza. Sam Harris' place in history is cemented as the Sophist for Islamaphobes.

I grew up in a conservative Jewish zionist household with a family that survived the holocaust. We routinely worked with Jewish and Palestinian peace organizations and we had Palestinian students stay at my house on Exchange programs. Some of my Fondest Memories of that time were sitting in my room playing Magic the Gathering together. We are Lifelong members of the JNF, planting forests in Israel and building bomb proof playgrounds in Sderot, which have now been destroyed. I used to go to the Palestine protests back in 2007/2008 because how could one not sympathize with how some of these people live. Back then it was around 20 to 30 people at the protests. Oh how times have changed!
Then I REALLY wanted to get the inside scoop, and got the blessing to do so when I moved in with Palestinian/Syrian roommates for 3 years. They taught me islam. I fasted Ramadan. I learned their stories. Families caught in the middle of multiple wars, bombed multiple times, and finally fled safely to the United States.
To say that that experience shot me 180° back to my Jewish/Zionist roots is an understatement. The sheer amount of hate, vitriol, and antisemitism in the Muslim Community is beyond astonishing. Regular sermons from multiple Imams on ideologies of martyrdom, jihad, creating as much violence as possible in order to claim some land back. Repeated Holocaust denial and conspiracy theories from old antisemitic tropes. Horrific views of women/LGBT/people that weren't Muslim. If I had heard any teachings of these things from my Jewish community I guarantee you I would still be standing next to these people on the streets today protesting Israel.
The things I value as a liberal person do not grow under Islamic regimes. They grow under democracy. While I'm no apologist for Israel and her many mistakes, there is no moral equivalence to the hatred and inequality spread in Islamist societies and the diversity and inclusion that is attempted in Israel and the west

Sorry to hear you were subjected to this hatefulness - in the US? My experience of the current massacre in Gaza is that many Jewish friends stand against it, and that Muslim friends recognize this and insist that they are anti-Zionist/Israeli-govt, but believe in full respect for Jews and how important it is to draw the distinction. But this is Cape Town - we tend to have our deep chats while hiking🕊️🥰🏞️

@@zetristan4525 Yes this is in the US. I found similar surface-level sentiments from Muslims/Palestinians I've talked too (a couple hundred) but once I dug a little deeper in my questioning some very scary opinions came out.
My go-to comparison from my experiences (if i had to consolidate everything into a nutshell) was when I was a kid during the 2nd intifada there was a rally for Israel at the JCC near my house. One man had a sign that said "Death to the Arabs". My mother quickly saw it and explained to me how wrong this was, the group around us swarmed him and kicked him out.
When I was living in the Muslim community, there would be multiple entire prayer sessions in mosque dedicated to the 'cleansing of the Yahud' and the liberation of Palestine.

Ironically, for people who discuss how minorities within minorities suffer in unique ways from the same majority oppressor (intersectionalism), they seem completely incapable of imagining how a majority can oppress a minority and that minority can also oppress a minority within that minority. The idea that a subject can be an oppressed in one context and an oppressor in a different context must simply be too complex for them.

God isn't done with the Jews yet, and the very existence of Israel after 1900 is proof of it. (And it's also the reason the devil isn't done with the Jews either, hence the hatred towards you.)
While we're at it, an important side note. I haven't watched the whole video but should point out that Sam is talking total nonsense when it comes to the existence of the Jews being "a perennial blasphemy" because they rejected the Messiah and that this has been the christian view for 2000. Bogus. For a 2000 christian view, read Romans 9-11 of the New Testament.

On the 7th, it is crucial to understand that there were no direct attacks on civilians, only collateral damage. Out of the 1148 total names on haaret dataset, 473 military and 675 were civilians.
Ratio of civilians to military personnel killed on the 7th was 1 . 4 : 1 - lower than any of the iTf "mowing" operations, which has a ratio of 7 : 1

They are following scripture, the word עוֹלֵל, ʿôlēl which means 'Babe, infant, little one, a suckling' occurs 21 King James Bible Verses Of these verses:
“Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.” -Psalm 137:9
“Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.”-1 Samuel 15:3
“Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.”
      -Jeremiah 6:11
“Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.”
      -Hosea 13:16
The other verses are not much different. Infact it is always in association with violence. Indeed these verses are the reason why in the Crusades the sense of pious rejoicing at massacre does not appear to be the product of later theologizing; it is also found, in the account of the eye-witness Raymond of Aguilers:
“in the Temple and porch of Solomon, men rode in blood up to their knees and bridle reins. Indeed, it was a just and splendid judgment of God that this place should be filled with the blood of the unbelievers, since it had suffered so long from their blasphemies.” In fact, Raymond continues, “This day, I say, will be famous in all future ages, for it turned our labours and sorrows into joy and exultation; this day, I say, marks the justification of all Christianity, the humiliation of paganism, and the renewal of our faith.”
Another account by a chronicler and eyewitness-priest, Albert of Aachen, describes the killing of fleeing women, and depicts crusaders as:: “seizing [infants who were still suckling] by the soles of their feet from their mothers’ laps or their cradles…and dashing them against the walls or lintels of the doors and breaking their necks […] they were sparing absolutely no gentile of any age or kind.”The incoherence inherent in a stranger to Abraham calling the children of Abraham gentiles notwithstanding, this account evokes the very same Psalm 137:9 imprecation against Babylon, in Latin, “beatus qui tenebit et adlidet parvulos tuos ad petram.”
This is the polar opposite in the Quran in Surah Al-Tanwir, literally "The Englightenining" Surah, Aya 8-9, we have the death of a newborn is mentioned amongst the penultimate signs of the end of times, emphasizing the gravity of such an action. That child, now resurrected, is asked for what wrong doing was she murdered. This is to emphasize that she had done nothing wrong, for she had done nothing wrong and this is the day of retribution where those who omitted the evil are to be punished.
This is the polar opposite in the Qur'an, Surah Al-Baqara Aya 190, which exhorts to fight unbelievers and not be "Aggressors", in the commentary of what it means to be aggressors, this was stated Al-Hasan Al-Basri stated that transgression (indicated by the Ayah):
"includes mutilating the dead, theft (from the captured goods), killing women, children and old people who do not participate in warfare, killing priests and residents of houses of worship, burning down trees and killing animals without real benefit."
This is also the opinion of Ibn `Abbas, `Umar bin `Abdul-`Aziz, Muqatil bin Hayyan and others. Muslim recorded in his Sahih that Buraydah narrated that Allah's Messenger said: "Fight for the sake of Allah and fight those who disbelieve in Allah. Fight, but do not steal, commit treachery, mutilate, or kill a child, or those who reside in houses of worship."
It is reported in the Two Sahihs that Ibn `Umar said, "The Prophet forbade killing women and children."
"To kill those whom you were forbidden to from women, elderly, children and those whom betwixt you is a treaty or custom or by surprise or without cause"
-Tafsir Al-Zamakshari of the meaning of Aggressors in the Aya
More hadith from Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah:
"Do not kill the dwellers of monasteries"
"The prophet forbids the killing of women, children, and the elderly"
This is the polar opposite in the Qur'an, Surah Al-Anfal Ayah 61 in which even oath breaking deniers/unbelievers are allowed to sue for peace states if the unbelievers they ask for peace, give it to them.
The modifiable testament testament commands indiscriminate killing, genocide, plunder, mutilation, enslavement, or torture of enemies, including women, on the other hand.Surah Al-Baqara Aya 190 limits war to those who fight against Muslims, prohibits transgression, and implies respect for human dignity and life Indeed it is what precedes the famous "sword verse", always cited out of context.
God did bring down the Qur’an, Mohamed is his Messenger.

The story of Christendom was always an empirial religion, born under the auspices of constantine, the subjects were converted at the edge of the sword and rendered into slaves for his majesty, often referring to him as their lord. In Islam such slavery is unthinkable. The only lordship is that of the creator, no station into which man was brought into the lands of Islam was to any degree as bad as the repugnant chattel slavery brought by the primitive tribalism inherent in their texts, for example, the word עוֹלֵל, ʿôlēl which means 'Babe, infant, little one, a suckling' occurs 21 King James Bible Verses Of these verses:
“Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.”
      -Psalm 137:9
“Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.”
      -1 Samuel 15:3
Albert describes a massacre occurring, in cold blood, on the second day following the conquest, painting a scene that is as horrific as it is realistic and detailed: "Girls, women, matrons, tormented by fear of imminent death and horror-struck by the violent murder wrapped themselves around the Christians’ bodies in the hope to save their lives, even as the Christians were raving and venting their rage in murder of both sexes. Some threw themselves at their feet, begging them with pitiable weeping and wailing for their lives and safety. When children five or three years old saw the cruel fate of their mothers and fathers, of one accord they stepped up the weeping and pitiable clamour. But they were making these signals for pity and mercy in vain. For the Christians gave over their whole hearts to murder, so that not a suckling little male-child or female, not even an infant of one year would escape the hand of the murderer".
Evoking several of these verses in practice:
      - (Num 31:17-18) Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
      - (Deut 7:2, 9:3, Num 21) thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them...
      - (Deut 20:16-17) thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth
      - (Josh 6:21, 8:24-27, 10:, 11:11-14,21-22) And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword... And cut off their thumbs and their great toes... He left none remaining:
      - (Judg 18:27) And they took [the things] which Micah had made ...and came unto Laish ...and smote them with the edge of sword burnt city fire.
      - (1 Sam 15:1-9) Now go and smite Amalek and utterly destroy all that they have and spare them not but slay both man and woman infant and suckling ox and sheep camel and ass.
      - (1 Sam 27:9,11) And David smote the land and left neither man nor woman alive ...
      - (Esther 8:11, 9:1-19) Wherein the king granted the Jews which were in every city to gather themselves together and to stand for their life to destroy to slay and to cause to perish all the power of the people and province that would assault them both little ones and women and to take the spoil of them for a prey... .
      - (Ezek 9:6) Slay utterly old [and] young both maids and little children and women: but come not near any man upon whom [is] mark begin at my sanctuary.

The modifiable testament testament commands indiscriminate killing, genocide, plunder, mutilation, enslavement, or torture of enemies, including women, on the other hand.Surah Al-Baqara Aya 190 limits war to those who fight against Muslims, prohibits transgression, and implies respect for human dignity and life Indeed it is what precedes the famous "sword verse", always cited out of context.

one of the scariest things I took notice is that, even if you point out many holes and the double standards in the pro palestine/woke movement in a completely logical way, most people just act as if you didn't say those things, or turn the tables with 'what about this, what about that' type of arguments, make false equivalences (there's homophobia in israel and in gaza, therefore gays being pro hamas is perfectly reasonable). It's like they double down in their woke convictions in a way that honestly, looks completely crazy and irrational. Like their entire identity as a woke person is depending on them being pro palestine without any critical thinking. They are defending their own self concept by never admiting they are wrong. I recently watched a documentary about the chinese Cultural Revolution of the 60s (Morning Sun, 2003), and it looks for me as if this woke movement is somehow comparable to it, this frenzy for unending revolution just for the sake of revolution, no room for moderation, etc.

This is the polar opposite in the Qur'an, Surah Al-Anfal Ayah 61 in which even oath breaking deniers/unbelievers are allowed to sue for peace states if the unbelievers they ask for peace, give it to them.
Stephen Langton, the writer of the Magna Carta (12th century, contemporary with the crusades for a reason) studied in the university of Paris which archives show had plenty of Arabic treatises in its procession, there can be no question about it being inspired by the "Sharia". both the renessiance and the european enlightenment were directly preceded by massive translation movements form Arabic (see the Republic of Letters by Alexander Bevilacqua, The House of Wisdom: How the Arabs Transformed Western Civilization By: Jonathan Lyons.

I'd love to see someone unpack the connections between the Arab/Muslim world and the Nazis. Something I've only really come across more recently is how interconnected they were. Nazi officers went to Egypt after the war. Sadat was somehow involved with Nazi espionage. The Grand Mufti visited Nazi concentration camps and convinced Bosnian Muslims to fight for the Axis, the Muslim Brotherhood, the predecessor of Hamas, owes something of its origins to Nazism, if not just in it's ideologies, in it's actual logistical make up. This doesn't negate the atrocities happening in Gaza, which are horrific, I condemn and need to stop as soon as Hamas release the hostages, but surely this history needs to be known!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday in the Netherlands, we saw a bunch of "pro Palestine" protestors screaming on the top of their lungs when the holocaust museum was innaugerated by President Herzog and some other Jewish dignitaries + Amsterdam's mayor, who didn't even bother to demand that this protest took place further away from the synagogue, it was literally across. And there's this clip of of the guy going around saying "hamas is my brother", and another pic of someone having his right arm stretched in front of him, and those are "progressives?"
I see a lot of replacement shame coming from social media in the Dutch language social media. A lot of people speak shame, that Amsterdam and the Netherlands is put to shame. Especially targeted at the mayor who wouldn't think to mandate that the protestors would take another spot to protest, and not in the heart of the historicd jewish quarters of WW2

@@davidanderson9664 no, I’m just frustrated at the level of hypocrisie and unequal moral treatment going on.
and it was even worse than we thought. She (the mayor) decided that the attendees of this event should “hear” the grievances of pro Palestine protesters.
Afterwards, politicians were not happy with how things were organized:
When the ritual of christening the museum was performed, someone shouted, “get lost cancer Jew” : that is some style of vitriol right ? The mayor didn’t think for one second this crossed many lines.
Years ago, an organisation called pegida organized a protest in front of a mosque, that was immediately dealt with and was seen as violation of Muslim sensibilities.
So why don’t Jews get the same courteous treatment from a progressive mayor in her city ?

Here in Germany there are some schools which a very large minority or even a majority Muslim situation in some classes. The tradition here is to make a class trip to a concentration camp in 9th or 10th year. My daughter was on a class trip to Dachau last year and she was the only one who cried. She phoned me from there for emotional support and told me her classmates were eating during the guided tour and had to be told to stop. Luckily the only demonstrations round here have been against the AfD. If Germany starts allowing demonstrations against Israel then the world is just completely broken 😞.

I joined the still justified imo opposition to the Iraq War.
Before, it was unjustified for Michael Moore Bernie Sanders type reasons.
Now I realize it was STUPID because it removed the enemy of Iran, and while Saddam was an enemy of Israel (and had once fired missiles at Riyadh?!!), Iraq was not a serious threat to Israel.
      Iran is.
And I read that Israel had to be cajoled a bit by Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Neocons to agree to support the US coalition.
Anyhow, in joining that peace movement, I discovered weird communists hanging out with book tables. Later, I was recruited by friends into the pro-Palestine movement.
Mind, it wasn't then presented to me as anti Israel, just opposing the Goliath of superiority of nuclear armed modern weapons Israel against ragtag freedom fighters with rather primitive mostly ineffective weapons.
WHY NOT LET THEM HAVE A STATE?
I thought of myself as standing for Truth.
I didn't know, Palestinian-Arabs had rejected EVERY OFFER to build a peaceful state next to Israel.
I didn't know Hamas totally rejected negotiations and only wanted total annihilation of Jewish people.
There was a lot more I didn't know, while "standing for justice".

I don’t believe a war against Iran would unite all of Iran against the US and it’s allies. Amir is right about the Iranians having a recent enough memory of pre Islam. They also have a very rich history that predates Islam, and many are very educated. There is much opposition to the current government I believe, even if it remains largely quiet or dormant. Much of the Iranian diaspora have family and friends back in Iran, and I think most are overwhelmingly opposed to the theocratic government.

Yasmine, have you listened to Einat Wilf? She is a remarkable woman, a spokesperson for Israel and Zionism. She reveals the true nature of the conflict and the Palestinian myth in her books and talks so brilliantly. Although she is not under the delusion of the Arab world all of a sudden recognising the state of Israel and living peacefully with Jewish people any time soon, she finds hope in the Arab world’s young generation to modernise and transform its religion views, accept Israel into its region and coexist peacefully. We see this trend with the gulf countries and Abraham accords but it will certainly be a long process but who knows we might witness peace in our lifetime.

The part where Yasmine said 'us vs them' summarize everything we see in this world. Grew up muslim and I left many years ago, I realized how deep the hatred my teachers planted in me when I was in madrasa (islamic school). It's always about muslim vs jews & christian and I remember how spiritful my teachers said they wanted to just see jews killed. It was too much hatred covered my eyes, even when i was a teenager. You never saw muslim takes credit if a terrorist attack happens, because it's jihad against non-believers and it's okay bcs you get reward in afterlife. Ofc, victim mentality is deeply ingrained. Hadits and Quran simply their guide, nothing else. You can't criticize it, unfortunately.
I am from Indonesia. Leaving the islam is just so hard for me to deal on the backlash, but I've gained my peace now.
Yasmine, I support you fully on your doing to spread awareness about islamic ideology. I've dealt with that shit in the past and I am glad to see a brave woman to speak up about this. thank you! i'm a left wing israeli ashkenazi jew, and I admit I did not understand how significant (and nuts) the religious islamic component was until 7.10. it just sounded too far out there. well I understand now.
the feeling of being a liberal left wing israeli rn is of complete isolation, being cancelled, shunned, but more than anything it just feels like the west have gone crazy and it happened way too fast after 7.10. truthfully I'd much rather talk to gazan people about the conflict rather than to wokeists from the west. these ones just blended any piece of world view they ever learned (post colonialism, race etc) and now they throw it all on us. americans (most successful colonial endevour running until this day) preach us on non colonialism. what a joke. we f'ing bought the lands from arabs before they declared war on us and lost in what is called the nakba.
you ask why they care less about russia and ukraine? imo it's because they consider both to be white and in the same level of "nativeness", while israeli's are percieved as white colonizers (not true, many are mizrahi arab jews plus there was always a jewish minority on the land) and the palestinians are the quote on quote brown natives. if we leave here muslims will still be killing each other like they do in all states around us, the west just wouldn't care because they'll all be seen as brown natives practicing their native ways. the west hates itself and is guilt ridden to a debilitating degree, in short.
anyway meaning to say thank you for the conversation, I feel a little less alone now.

I'm a 56 years old Israeli, my grandfather was one of the "Shomer" organization commanders, guarding the Jewish community in the Ottoman-Empire era, against the hostile Arabs - way way way before they started calling theirselves "Palestinians".
My family from both sides, took place almost in every effort to defend us Jews in Israel ( NILI underground, Palmach and so on ... ) - 130 years of struggle, when the land stood almost empty, desolate due to the barbarity and neglect of the Ottomans and Arabs ...
We experienced the lies of those "new commers" Arabs who came to work for the Jews and suddenly became a people name "Palestinians" (they can't even pronounce the "P" in that Phoenician name which means "Invaders" . (similar process we see in Europe now)
*I want to ask two questions* :
    - Why on earth ... anybody ... thinks he have any right to decide if "Israel has a right to exist" ?
    - Why do you Sam thinks that Israel is centered around the "religious issue" while it's around the "Jewish culture and/or Ethnic issue ( you as an Atheist should know better and that what separate us Agnostics from you ) - Israel is centered around the Idea that it should give every Jew in the world a shelter to be a Jew ( whether culturally, Religiously or ethnically ), to my opinion your over-atheism fails you in some issues and you're not the only "thinker" that got this ... seems you don't know Israel enough, since in here there are Atheist Jews, religious Jews, ultra-religious, reform Jews, Jews that beleive in god but don't folow almost any Prohibition .. to call Israel religious is kind of ignorance ...

The basic dilemma that causes moral cowardice/inaction is that people who want peace aren't willing to start an actual fight in an attempt at peace, because that would feel hypocritical and contradictory. Yet haters do welcome an actual fight, because peace is not their primary value. The asymmetry is real, perhaps insurmountable.

I can remember my friends saying the same thing about far right supporters. Now we have 22 states which have revoked bodily autonomy for half their population.

      (1) Whether or not a Palestinian nationality exists or existed is irrelevant as to whether there were people living on that land that still have a right to be under a government that reflects their national aspirations and (2) nationalities and identities develop over time, so while the concept of a Palestinian may not have existed historically, it certainly exists now.

@@oremfrien 1. There already is a Palestinian state among the 22 Arab Islamic and 55 Islamic countries - it's called "Jordan" which is comprised of 70% what is now referred to as "Palestinians" (don't forget, Israel is similarly 80% Jewish. Under the original conceptualization of the Jewish homeland, both the Jordanian and Israeli land masses were to have constituted the Jewish state but Jordan was quickly parceled off by Britain as a Hashemite kingdom. Unfortunately, the Hashemites do not afford the "Palestinians" equal rights as they are afforded as citizens of Israel. Don't ask me why. 2. The "Palestiians" have been offered a state numerous times, initially when the state of Israel was declared by the UN in 1948 and numerous times subsequently by Israel - they refused, they want a 1 state solution 3. People throughout history have had to suffer migrations and population changes - particularly after long world wars. After WWII Pakistan was carved out of India, Predominantly German Prussia was returned to Poland by Germany, 800,000 Jews were expelled from Arab countries and millions of European Jews lost homes and possessions that were in their families for centuries and had to move to other countries...like Israel. Why, I wonder, does the world rail against the displacement/dispossession of only this group of people when there are those indiginous to Australia, New Zealand, North, South and Central American countries whose homelands were forever changed by migrating peoples? 4. If the world had not for millenia subjected the Jewish people to pogroms, expulsions, inquisitions (lasting hundreds of years and pursuing Jewish Spaniards into the New World) and culminating in the worst genocide in human history, perhaps there would have been no need to re-establish themselves in the ancient homeland in which they maintained a continuous presence throughout history. Through their heinous actions and continued prejudice, the world is responsible for this need and they are the same ones that begrudge the Jewish people their tiny homeland. Ironically, there are chants now for Jews to "go back to Poland" but when they were in Poland they were exhorted to go back to Palestine. Which is it?

@@rhodaberger7262 Please see these responses numbered in respect your four points:
      1. Jordan is not a Palestinian state other than that it has a Palestinian majority. It is ruled by the Hashemites (who are a foreign dynasty) and the Circassian and Bedouin elite. Regardless, this is entirely irrelevant since Palestinians (just like the J*ws) have the right to live in their ancestral homeland (which was never Transjordan). If you are asking why Jordan treats Palestinians differently than ethnic Jordanians, it is to preserve the Bedouin and Circassian legal supremacy which was actually how the Hashemites unified the territory in the 1920s - when there were no Palestinians in Jordan and when the population of the territory was roughly 200,000 people. It’s important to understand that there is a historical and meaningful difference between the Fellah (settled peasant sharecropper Arab population) - which most Palestinians are - and the Bedouin (nomadic or semi-nomadic Arab population) and the two groups have longstanding enmities as the Fellah see the Bedouin as violent raiders and the Bedouin see the Fellah as resource hoarders.
      2. Whether the Palestinians want a one-state solution or a two-state solution is independent of whether they have the right to be self-governing in their own land. Unreasonableness is irrelevant to cultural and governmental rights. There are some Israeli politicians and Zi*nist commentators who want a one-state solution to the exclusion of a Palestinian state and I believe that we would both agree that the presence of this unreasonableness does not invalidate the right for J*ws to self-govern.
      3. Most people would argue that forcible displacement and ethnic cleansing of people was a morally bad idea that happened to be popular between 1918-1950. We shouldn’t implement morally bad ideas simply because they’ve been implemented before.
      4. Whether J*ws have a right to state (and I would agree that they do) has no bearing on whether the Palestinians have a right to state.

We need a major Ex-Islam Organization in the US, Canada and Europe where people can collaborate. Synergism will follow. Individuals will not have the strength and protection that comes from a large organization and will not be able to reach as far or do as much.
