Love your work and your character man!
Nee subscriber immediately! This was a beautiful episode!
@@themeangene it didn’t promote communism man. The character of Maria just said that they’re literally a post-apocalyptic commune, so therefore the closest thing to communism actually working out. People who are actually sure of their beliefs and opinions don’t get triggered by every little thing that they don’t agree with. Get some sun. There’s more to life than your keyboard
@@themeangene listen, I see where you’re coming from and why you’d see things that way. I guess my point here is that people share their viewpoints all the time, right or wrong, and it’s our job to stay true to what we think regardless of said viewpoint. I really do respect what you said because you put it very eloquently. I just slightly disagree as to the severity of the agenda-pushing narrative. And I apologize for my sun/keyboard slights. That’s my bad 100%
Great episode. I look forward to your reviews weekly for TLOU. Keep up the great work.
While I thought their adaptation of the DLC was perfect, I think in a 9 episode season they should've integrated it more into the current timeline by flipping back and forth. So far I think 1 and 5 were the most well rounded and tight episodes.
I think if they did it any earlier it wouldn't have made it as good as it is now.
The whole part of finally connecting to Joel and now the possibility of losing him right after having finally bonded like they did is the perfect place to get back to the things that happened.
Especially love how she killed the infected stuck in rubble in episode 3 and how everybody was like "how is she so cold blooded?" > no, turns out she knew exactly how to kill them.
Episode 4 where she tells she has shot someone before > makes perfect sense now.
And the emotional response towards Joel and telling him without the words themselves that she loves Joel (as a father figure) and trusts him with her life.
She saying that she has lost everybody she ever knew also hits harder now that you see where she is coming from.
To me there is no more perfect place for this episode then now.
The end was the definition of “show, don’t tell.” Genius editing of Ellie and Riley’s final moments together intercut with Ellie frantically looking for materials to save Joel’s life. She can’t lose anyone else. Brilliant storytelling and my favorite episode so far.
That's hardly an example of show don't tell bruh. It's more of a don't show at all. Furthermore there's no way anyone would resort to 'tell' in sucha sequence
@@plisskenetic could you explain a little bit better? I’m willing to hear your reason on why it’s not an example of show don’t tell but I don’t get what you’re trying to say. Not being cheeky here either
Wouldn’t say the best but it was a strong episode and the casting of Riley was great. Loved it. Amazing season so far
I never understood tht if Riley was at the mall for like 3 weeks did she not notice that infected. And surely she would've played the mall music at least twice before bringing Ellie in, it would've woken up long time before.
This is actually the first episode that I didn’t really care for. Still a solid 6.5/10, but it did feel the most like filler and something that didn’t add that much too Ellie’s character for me.
Agreed. Good acting but the episode as a whole was beyond mid.... and the stuff we actually want to see is gonna be crammed into the last 2 episodes... unreal. So far there were 3 absolute waste episodes.
@@pkshowsupnoobsallday Eh I wouldn’t go as far as a waste. I think it just added extra tragedy to Ellie that we didn’t really need an entire episode on. I’d even like this more if it was a longer series but a limited series that’s only 9 episodes I wouldn’t say it’s the best.
This episode adds a lot, if you think that by the time Ellie is a teenager eager to experience love for the first time and didn't know anything about her condition yet . That's a life changing event
@@scottstorey7268 yeah, you've got a point man. "Waste" was a strong word to use.
This episode sucked a turd. So boring
It's legit weird how excited I've been to have my heart ripped out and stomped on again every week. Or how much I'm going to miss that when this season ends. 😞
For me, this was easily my least favorite episode of the series so far.
I’ve officially cried on every single episode!! Episode 4 wasn’t sad but I cried because I enjoyed the scenes with Joel and Ellie. This episode was SENSATIONAL!!! It really warmed my heart being a fan of the game.
Weak
@@drnkds Yeah cause holding all your emotions in makes you so strong huh?
@@TheAfricanGrey don’t you have some money to launder, Marty?
Tlou is one of the few things that makes me cry, part II was a lot, damn
Yea, me too, but it's because they are fucking up the adaptation
I enjoyed this episode but it would definitely be on the lower tier if I had to rank them.
That escalator scene at the mall had me in tears instantly as soon as they played a-ha's Take On Me.
Fantastic episode and they get better each week and the production design is out of this world good.
It was a great portrayal from the DLC!! Loved the Mortal Kombat arcade scene and the chemistry between Riley and Ellie overall. I swear i thought we were gonna get an Ellie’s mom scene somewhere but guess not. Overall a nice ep
There's a character listing for it so I'm sure Marlene has a flashback before the hospital
How is it a great portrayal from the DLC when it only uses half of the DLC?
Agree with you, Cody. The mask scene was essential, my favourite part, with the extension, with the first game. There is enough from the first game to extend for a two seasons. Excellent storytelling.
Was hoping for a BRICK FUCCCKING MASTER! scene but overall a great episode. Great job adapting the Left Behind DLC
My only worry is that I don't know if you can do the whole David storyline in 1 episode. I am worried about the last two episodes not sticking the landing.
Not only that, the entire salt lake and hospital in the next one...could've done with less Karen/Kathleen
@@ghostofmoredishesmorebitch1507 The hospital and ending I have no problem seeing them do that well in 46 minute episode but I hope David is done well I'm the hour run time that is given for ep 8.
@@jonathancohoon means they cut all the bloater sections for the rest of the game from what it seems like; they used 500k on the suit for one single bloater which is sad
@@ghostofmoredishesmorebitch1507 I think they will have to kill a booster on the way to the hospital in the last one
Yeah I feel like they are taking small moments and stretching them over entire episodes, and then taking huge long moments and quickly shoving them into one episode? Lol..... Ummmmm... 🤷🤦
Dude...... you legitimately like it this much...?!!? Hmmm.. ight man. You're still a legend tho and I'll always watch ya.
Not even two minutes passed and cody already got the review uploaded, absolute madlad. Amazing episode!!! But honestly one of the weaker ones to me but I can definitely see the love for it
He already watched the whole season. He told us around the time the 1st episode came out. A bunch of reviewers were able to do that. So he had this video complete already and just released it once we were able to watch the episode.
@@pkshowsupnoobsallday no he still records the video now. It’s not just prerecorded. His episode 6 review last week was late because he was sick and he even mentions it in the beginning of that vid..
Found it boring
I thought episode 3 was better than episode 7. It hit me emotionally a lot more.
I'm so happy Danny McBride is giving us some Last of Us Reviews! ☺️
I always thought this 😂😂
I just wish they showed some of the journey Ellie did at the other mall ti get a medkit, I thought It was a great parallel to the flashback
Idk man this one just didn’t really do it for me. And no it’s not the gay thing, episode 3 was my favorite episode. For me it just seemed like a little misuse of the 7th episode in a series that’s only 9 episodes. Idk I just really wish they would’ve shown the left behind story in flashbacks while she fought through to save Joel or else just summed it up a little quicker. I wasn’t a big fan of the left behind DLC in the game so it didn’t really work for me in the show. Don’t get me wrong it was well done and I can appreciate I just feel like that run time could’ve been better used elsewhere seeing as how we’ve only got two episodes left and still quite a bit of story to get through. I liked the episode, I just didn’t like the fact that it took up a lot of time from the main story. But, I can understand why they did it and why it was important to them. And again, if nothing else at least they continue to stay true to the game which is still infinitely cool. This episode just didn’t quite do it for me. My feelings on it may change by the finale, I think right now it just didn’t do it for me because I’m ready to see how they’re going to pull off the rest of the show and it feels like they’re running out of time. So it’s partially a me thing. I’m going to have to rewatch the series once it ends and I’m sure my opinion on this episode will change when I’m not anxious to see how they handle the David chapter haha
I agree w u 100%. Waste, filler episode w really good acting.
Escalators were so fucking awesome to me as a kid in Mexico. My mom took us to the mall and we used to go on that thing like it was a fucking rollercoaster.
As someone who hasn't played the game, this was pretty boring in the middle, could've been sped up a little bit
Makes you wonder if Naughty Dog regrets doing an Uncharted movie over something like this
Starting to get bored of this series tbh. I can't believe they've stripped all of the horror and suspense. Keep the drama in but mix it up a bit, come on.
If this is your favorite episode, im terrified for next couple remaining episodes.

Season 2 already confirmed thanks for your concern though

This episode was pretty good, but part of me does wish they had Ellie exploring the mall and in the flashbacks have a bunch of infected chase them and all that. Perhaps have Ellie fight off the humans in the mall too. But it's not a big gripe, was just saying
I disagree with the notion there should be infected everywhere, (I know that’s not what you said, but I’m meaning negative comments in general saying this) In the game it’s terrifying as you can die as the characters. The show you can’t have that same fear. So instead of showing infected constantly, they use them sparingly, helping to show how dangerous and terrifying they are.
I could care less about the gay thing. That's for all you internet warriors to argue over. I just thought the episode was incredibly underwhelming.
!!!!
I didn’t have a chance to play that DLC but after watching this episode it made me want to go try it out. This episode was enjoyable for the right reasons
Great review and episode Cody. I also thought the fact that Ellie was listening to Pearl Jam on her Walkman was a good attention to detail as well.
Next week episode with David is my most anticipated. Even more then the finally. All I got to say is “baby girl” that moment is my favorite in the game
Bella kills it, can't believe some people don't like her. And if we are wondering about the guitar and singing such, che k out some of Bella Ramsay's positive thoughts videos during covid, she plays pretty good and can sing. So much fun watching her grow from 10 yrs old and on. Just a great talent.
One of the interesting concepts I think they could of/could explore with this idea is that fact that Ellie is immune but also lesbian. If she had kids there is a good chance at least some of them would be immune and would go on to spread the immunity with their own kids. I think it would be interesting moral conflict to explore and yet I don't think I have seen it mentioned once.
I'm pretty sure part III will be about that
That’s very interesting that would be cool to explore
Lesbians have kids all the time.
I would say this is my favorite episode cause it was fantastic but I really love the ending of the game and knowing that I'm positive the finale is my favorite episode without even seeing it yet. "Knock on wood" It's my favorite part of the game so I'm beyond excited to see it realized in live action. And my brother and his wife are watching the show for the first time with no context to the game whatsoever and I really can't wait for their reaction to it. I know whats coming, they don't. But this was a fantastic episode.
this episode wasn’t very good for me. needed more than 2 min of suspense
I gotta say that when we were kids and we went to the mall, the escalator was kind of a big deal. We'd get yelled at all the time by our mother for fuckin off on it. 😂
😂!
WHEN they started playing "Take on me" at the escalator scene, I paused and cried for a sec. What the actual fuck, they really made this beautifully. And I know I have nothing to do w it, but from loving thw games for so so many years now,,, I just can't help but feel proud of loving this show.
It still seems like what's left will be rushed considering what needs to be covered. I feel the show could use another two or three episodes.
I know man... I'm nervous.
they could make 90 minutes each like the first episode
The material they're delivery so far is so good I don't mind if the last episodes are underwhelming
The game was much more dependent on the ending, it wasn't a masterpiece until the last moments, but this show is a masterpiece since episode 1
@@geenhaaien the last episode is 46 minutes (including credits!) according to IGN
Can't wait for the rabbit to get capped next episode
I actually thought this episode sucked. Has nothing to do with the gay relationship. Same thing with episode 3. No advancement in the story and was just rather boring. Doesn’t matter if both episodes had straight relationships. I’d feel exactly the same. Maybe this stuff and pacing worked better in the game. Introduce a new character, and kill them off. Again.
Worst episode of the season. Such odd placement in a 9 episode season.
how? the episode shows how Ellie lost someone very close to her and is now potentially going to lose another person that is close to her. it fits well.
@@JKrol it fits. But at the expense of any action or entertainment
@Secret Agent Randy Beans if the show isn't as entertaining for you then don't watch it. Alot of people are entertained by it
Was a good episode, but not top 3 for me personally..
This definitely wasn’t the best episode, but not the worst either! The girls’ chemistry was off the charts. For me it goes:
3, 5, 7, 2, 6, 1, 4
Episode 3 or 6 were definitely my favorite but they've all been really good so far!!!
Worst by a longshot
@@akihikosanada2020 thought 6 had great moments but feel conflicted over some of the changes and didn’t think the “everyone has either died or left me” scene was as good as the game

@@uhuhuh1966 I can see why you'd think that but idk, maybe it's cause I really love Pedro's Joel, but episode hit me so much harder than the game did at that point. Also Tommy is like my favorite TLOU character so I'll take any more time with him that I can.
The thing is, about Ellie's reveal, is that this was not her backstory from the game. They take their own liberties with the show obviously. And yes, it makes a lot of sense. The writers are absolute genius.
How so? This was almost beat for beat the DLC?
I liked this episode, is not my favorite, but is REALLY faithful to the game DLC. I think maybe I want they show the ending, when Ellie has to kill Riley, it was a little too short for me. But, the set was BEAUTIFUL, all the details in the mall, and the performances by Bella and Storm, amazing.
I never saw this show yet but I think episode 7 is where they filmed at my old hangout in Calgary, a mall called northland village mall. They tore down a good portion of this mall because they are turning it into an outdoor mall. The production team of the show totally rebuilt it for an apocalyptic scene. I saw all the great movies of the late 80’s and through out the 90’s like back to the future 2 &3 plus the chucky movies and many more at that mall, great memories there.
This one to me is the worst episode of the season. Not much happened other than information that we already know being shown.
I don't think this was the best one , it was probably the first one where I was a little let down, I wanted to see how it ended with her friend
The worst episode...
It's not the fact that this episode didn't work for me but the whole Left Behind dlc isn't for me tbh.
I was hyped for this episode love the dlc and they fucking nailed it
What sucked was the end where is suppose to be a whole sequence but it was just 1 runner could they not afford to do that sequence like wtf that sucked
Never found The Left Behind part in the game that appealing to be honest. This episode didn't really change my mind as I felt the time could have been better used further developing the relationship with Ellie and Joel.
It does tho, shows Ellie's commitment to not giving up right after we saw Joel's last episode and they're both about to turn into monsters to save each other
@@ghostofmoredishesmorebitch1507 cant he have an opinion tgat doesnt align with yours?
At this moment they're father and daughter and would die for each other, there's nothing much further than that
I know things in the game makes their bound even more traumatic, but there's still time
@@ghostofmoredishesmorebitch1507Didn't really need an entire hour to prove that tho.
@@Peer165 I mean we didn't need an hour for Kathleen or bill either tbh, nor did we need FIVE in the game for the mute kids island journey but it's becoming a pattern with Druckman and ultimately setting up the series to go down toilet
I agree with you on most of your points, the ones about the shots and cinematography of this episode, but I feel like this show is supposed to fill in gaps that the game didn’t reveal to us. I would’ve liked to see the emotions she had to go through pulling the trigger and seeing her best friend turn into something horrific.
This episode was decent but I'm not getting the hype, much preferred episode 3 for the post apocalyptic love story
I completely missed the "Left Behind" DLC and I really wish I had the chance to play it. The Last of Us was such a great game that I played through it 5 times to get as much as I could from it. That segment should've been in the main game dammit
Are these Mortal Kombat hints? Joel or Ellie DLC confirmed for MK12?! 😱
Loved everything about this. Spot on from the game 🤘
As someone who hasn't played the game I do wonder what happens in the morning. Like did Ellie wake up not knowing why she's alive and had to kill Riley or? Maybe we'll get an answer or maybe not, it's just me being curious. Unless game players know such
I assume they don't take that long to turn. So Riley turned, Ellie didn't. Ellie was forced to kill her. Marlene and her people likely found them in the mall and some time later you have her chained up in the 1st episode.
@@CodyLeachYT That makes sense since Rileys bite was on her hand rather than on her leg or something
Between this episode this or episode 3 I don't know what got me in my feelings more. Both beautifully written. I got 2 more to crush tonight but I always stop and get ur opinion. Cheers bro
I didn't hate this episode I hated its placement.
Great review.
I think this episode should have been omitted solely to give more time to the main story. With only two episodes left I’m worried they are going to do the classic move and rush through things.
I loved episode 7. I loved seeing the left behind story. I loved seeing Ellie and Rileys realitionship and I loved the kiss. I support people who are gay 😊 I loved learning more about Ellie before she met Joel and Tess. I loved how Ellie really cares about Joel and wants him to be okay. I give episode 7 a 9/10
I was obsessed with escalators when I was a kid I thought they were cool 🤣😅
Great episode. Feels good to just sit back and just relax before the the madness comes back with the David storyline.
Am I the only one that thinks they're really forcing the "Take On Me" song? Like, we get it. That part in Part II with Ellie singing is genuinely one of my favorite scenes in the video game because it comes as a bit of a shock. I don't like the constant forcing of the song.
The next two episodes are a bit shorter and I'm worried it won't wrap up as cohesively as can be. I really think the finale should be an hour and 30 long.
Maybe we could've done with less Kathleen stuff, but she was the only made to mirror the revenge plot in Part II.
The reason people don't like Episode 3 is because it's absolutely unnecessary to the overall story. And yes, it was an odd direction to take.
What tf does unnecessary mean?
Eli says a-ha.. in the mall after the song..when her friend calls her away from the reflection in the window at the thong store
Yes sir Cody.
I love your vids and I usually agree with your opinion.
I had actually never played the DLC, so this was all new to me. I did get some beginning of Uncharted 4 videos, though, with the sneaking out and running on rooftops bit.
Can u help me plz;
What is the *DLC??!*
Brilliant episode. They nailed it. Can't really say much more than that. 10/10
Episode 5 still the best one
Yeh it was.
Based on the comments so far it seems like this episode is getting a lot of hate but I thought it was a pretty good adaptation. Being a 90s kid myself I loved the MK2 part,. Have that same arcade in my basement. Like someone else said I did feel the interaction with infected was awkward, game definitely did that part better,.
As someone who hasn't played the games, I really like this show, I wish there was a little more action with the infected, but overall it's good, but my favorite episode is still the first one and I wish these last 2 episode will stick better to end with a higher note than what it started
The show really strips a lot of the action. Still really enjoying it but I'm starting to wonder if it a budget thing or they don't have a good action coordinator or something.
Lmao for someone that played the games I think the economy of the infecteds is on point
I mean infecteds everywhere could make they pointless like twd
this episode hit hard, cant wait for the next.
This episode was perfection ❤
Second worst episode of the season so far. Snooze fest episode tonight.
?This was your favorite episode? Ummmm.... The first 15 minutes of episode 1 🤘 come on bro 🤷🤦🤣
Also, I love "The Thing" t-shirt, I have one as well!!!
I feel like episode 3 and episode 7 could have been told just a little bit quicker (not entire episodes, or 1/9th of the entire season 1.
I fear that squeezing the entire rest of the game into 2 episodes is not going to be enough...
My god they nailed Riley. This was perfect and they added a lot also. If anyone is upset over Ellie being gay you won’t like season 2.
As someone who didn’t play the game, I’m starting to think that people who played the game are blinded by their enjoyment due to Easter eggs being re-enacted in a live action form. This season is good but there is a lack of action I believe or story that we should be focusing on. This story didn’t need 52 minutes to tell this story, they could’ve had this story mixed in with some present time story to progress that timeline as well. Also, I feel like if this was TWD or another tv series people are hard on, people would say this was a filler episode or fluff episode. To be a 9 episode season, with only two episodes left, I just don’t understand why there hasn’t been more action or story progression; but like I said I haven’t played the game so idk. Still great work Cody, keep it up. Really hope the last two episodes can amp it up more. I am very interested in seeing more of the infected and learn about them.
Am I the only person who noticed the song “take on me” was the writers signalling DANGER as the two girls go down the escalator??
The song came out in ‘85
Definitely with you, this either the best or second best episode of the series so far. Utterly tragic, yet beautiful at the same time. Masterclass on all fronts
The only thing I didn't like in this episode is that there's no way the fireflies and riley wouldn't know that that infected was there, that could have been better
Not much else to complain at all, Bella Ramsay is phenomenal and I'm more and more certain she can carry Ellie in the part ii
I didn't expect much of this series, and the same way I did for part ii but this franchise keeping impressing me somehow
I'm happy for this show. In an era that I don't think there are many good shows out there, it's not original but it's refreshing
Like I commented a while back on your video about what you thought of the whole season. I knew I would be right about how I would feel about this series. A good adaptation of an Okay and overhyped game series. Surprisingly I loved the third episode and the ending of the 5th everything else has been average to pretty good. People calling this the best series ever really need to see other things like Arcane or Edgerunners. Still kudos to the team for not screwing up the lore. Only thing that bothers me as a person that hated the story in part 2, not for the obvious scene but plotholes, character motivation, pacing, ... They are obviously nerfing Joel here to be more like the numbnuts he was in part 2, giving away his real name, feeling the age and having these panic attacks, you just feel they're trying to justify why Joel acted so out of character in part 2. Overall average to good series, looking forward to the last 2 episodes, just worried they might cut too much from the game or the next episodes must be 2 hours long each lol.
The Dawn Of The Wolf poster!
Ellies sexuality doesnt exhance or ruin her character. This is how all characters should be written (unless the theme is romance)
I don't rate this nearly as high as Cody. Bella ramsey doesn't do it for me as ellie, so her scenes often pull me out of it. It was good though. It covered the bases of the dlc. Just not a top tier episode

They are agenda pushing with this episode in particular. But it’s an agenda that’s been there for ten years and has been part of the story since the beginning.
I respect your opinion but as a diehard last of us fan… I think it’s terrible. Just underwhelming in every sense. Atrocious pacing, characters are bland, and it goes out of its way to make sure there’s as little suspense and action as possible.
@Infinite Possibilities Why is everyone suddenly pretending that Last of Us wasn't heavy on action and horror? It is needed, it enhances the brutality that is absolutely essential to this story and characters. And the characters share the name of Joel, and Ellie but they are nothing like the characters in the game. All nuance is absent. And at least in the DLC, Ellie is fighting for Joel's life. Here she stands at the top of a flight of stairs. Pacing wise, it is completely off. It's just a lesser version of the game in every single aspect.
Bella Ramsay’s performance this episode was the furthest thing from bland wtf smh. What are you people even watching ?
Good review.
