- THE SUNDANCE CENTRAL RAILROAD - The Sundance was formed in January 2004 with the goal to create a more detailed and uniformly scened, large-scale traveling layout. This 1:20.3 scale modular model railroad consisting of forty modules for a layout size of 45 feet by 45 feet. The railroad consists of 400 feet of hand laid code 250 aluminum rails that are hand spiked with individual tie plates onto wood ties with a total of 16 turn-outs.
The modular was built by a group of seven model train enthusiasts. This diverse group is made up of people who have a passion of early narrow gauge steam locomotives to modern day standard gauge diesels.
The purpose for forming this modular group was to provide the public a realistic look at model railroading in a large-scale format. The modules are highly detailed from the scratch built supporting structures and buildings down to the surrounding scenery. The trains and rolling stock that will be running on these modules will also be highly detailed and weathered.

Thinking. Always have wondered why I enjoy model trains so much -- and now I see it. Here is a portrayal of a community, each going about the day, no suggestion of war, crime, violence of any kind. The noise of a train can be absolutely peaceful. AND birds! Thank you very much. . .
Can almost smell the creasote tar coming off them tracks? Beautiful layout!
10 out of ten for the layout - and the cameraman. It's a rare to see perfect videos like this.
This layout is movie set grade ! The weathering and aging is phenomenal !
Remarkable detail. One of the finest layouts I've ever seen. You've created your own world and it's looks totally realistic. Thanks for sharing.
The fact that you do not have to run the trains and the dioramas still tell a story is magnificent. Beautiful craftsmanship and attention to detail is wonderful. A true work of art.👍👍
Thank you very much!
The attention to the smallest detail is amazing.
These layouts are really art work and do not get the credit they deserve. JMO.
Welder and fabulous detail !. Can hear chatterboxes in backround . Thanks for this playmates. Dave
An addendum; those boxcabs, are escapees from the Long Island Railroad, shrunk to fit the 3 foot Guage! Beautiful balanced models, and please pardon the off hand, but relevant remarks! But,yes the LIRR did have Mike & Ike,and they need the notice of their existence! Thank you again for that supremely excellent layout, and God be willing,I'll see it in person! Thank you 😇 😊!
Fantastic layout.
AWESOME layout.
Love that idea of those celestial roof's on the box cabs. I got a couple of future projects involving boxcabs and will replicate that look, nice job, and the little animated men unloading the coal gondola , G scale gives you so much room to add things.
Stunning to say the least. Very enjoyable. Attention to detail is some of the best I’ve ever seen. Thanks so much for sharing this. Great work and you should be very proud of your work!!
Brilliant and wonderful
This is all so lovely. Takes me back to my ¼ inch Little River days 👏🌹✌️🇦🇺
Literally looks real,INCREDIBLE layout👏👏👍☝️
The detail is awesome, so real looking. It lives up to the title of being one the best layouts in the world.
I'm surprised that the F&C didn't have a couple of parlor cars, named,"Carl Fallberg",and "Ward Kimball",because that would have been an inside joke! Also that D,SP&P 2-8-0 is another giveaway! The layout is a real work of art, and,as some people noted Museum quality! In a word,Gorgeous! Thank you 😇 😊!! Magnificent!!
Art in 3D
The detail is SICK. Best I've ever seen. Very inspiring. I love that gauge and the speed of the trains is in scale. Wow.
Glad you like it!
Very immersive.
Your attention to detail is off the charts. I would love to see some video shot with natural lighting to mimic real sunlight at dusk. Just a thought. This is simply beautiful!
YES!!!!
I have yet to see that featured in any train videos. As the sun progresses thru the sky the shadows fall in different angles accentuating different aspects of the scenery. Also the colour (sp CDN!) temperature of the sun changes throughout the day. I think that would add a lot of dimension to any layout. Ronn
With that large of a scale, one can see that minor & finer details are easier to do than smaller scales. Thanks for posting.
This just blew my mind..........I'll be looking at this many many times.........Thanks for the joy.......
I ve never seen a diesel locomotive like the yellow one.... Very particular.... The details are astonishing!!!
I absolutely love the 102 locomotive!!!!!
Marvelous workmanship!
Another art form.
I don't think you can get enough of this video.
4th time watching at. 25 speed and still discovering fantastic details. Thank you. Ill be watching this again and again!
Love to see more close-ups of the structures.
Aw the yellow diesel is so cute!
wild stuff thats just insane on the details blows my mind thinking about all the time invested and customizing
Can't imagine how many hours it took building this. Just great.
The attention and care to detail is excellent, and the locomotive with its clean rails is the centerpiece, very good indeed.
Thank you very much!
A true work of American Art. For me, it was like stepping into a time machine. I grew up during the 40's and 50's in a small logging community in northern Idaho. (Troy, Idaho) Your moving diorama had everything except the smell of pine and cedar. I remembered them nonetheless. I also loved the bird songs. This piece of Americana should be declared a national treasure. Obviously, worth millions. Congratulation... all around!!!
This is just incredible! I've seen a few videos from this same channel on this layout. The detail is insane, a pure joy to look at and watch over and over again! Thanks for making these! 😁👍👍
The most realistic layout I`ve seen
Amazing watching this model railroad thanks
Quality layout!!! Very impressive!!!
Great layout depicting steam era railroad with lots of fantastic true mountain type buildings and scenery! I also thought that the photography work in producing this video was top notch, nothing worse than viewing this type of video on utube when it's so blurred & out of focus that it's not worth your time.
Thanks & God Bless,

Outstanding detail on model train set and setting. Wonderful video my friend.
My favorite part is the boys sneaking a peek at the working girls in the brothel
And next door to the church!
That's one of the best parts!
I thought the one on the balcony was an artist painting a nude model haha.
Supervisor 👍 🤝
Absolutely outstanding. Bravo.
Incredible!!
Beautifully done model, excellent video quality.
Great job on filming this layout well done 👍

Awesome. Very artistic you hit the colors. Very realistic.
Thank you very much!
Wow fantastic detail my favorit
Love it!
Whaaa! Nice!👍
Beautiful layout. Im into N scale myself. Limited space is why? But love the skills and beauty of larger scales.
Excelente video!!
Nice job. A pleasure to watch.
Thank you very much!
I like it 9 out of 10. Great detail just a little on the small side. But if done right like this one is awesome, love the 1800s
You do realize this is 1:20 G scale?
Such a work of art! Is it an exhibit? Is it on display somewhere you can see it in person?
The latest information can be found on this website www.finescalemodeling.org/
Awesome! You’ve got SCRR branding on everything as well!
WOW !!😍😍😍🚂🚂🚂
Beautiful work. I love the imaginitive clouds and lightning. The only thing I dislike is that it's at the wrong house.
Very nice looking layout
An excellent video. Hello from the Tracy Mountain Railway in Colorado. ♡ T.E.N.
There is a two-piece (sorry) locomotive with a drover's caboose and a combine in tow to be seen at several points. I've never seen anything like it. Prototypical shall I assume. That's a great train. Cool layout as well.
I was very curious about that one. Neat little creation for sure, but I would be surprised if there was a prototype.
Amazing detail... A LOT of Time, love and money went into that layout!
It is the most realistic ever and all the little buildings where something is going on because people just worked in those days, that's right every thing was done right there where the railroad was at, the welder, the metal man could get it done and the team of horses pulling in those huge logs and the little house of ill-repute, well keep the fun and the money right in town I say. People were born there, they grew up there, and someone had a job for them when they grew up and the railroad just went on twenty four seven forever. They met for Church on Sunday and all the kids knew each other and went to School together and had picnics and yes laid their loved one's to rest up on the hill.
Obrigado.
The love to details reminds me to the master John Allan
Awesome bro
Good evening from St John Parish, Louisiana 06 Nov 20.
What doesn't come across unless you're right there is the deeper rumble F scale equipment makes. F's sheer size really does have more presence and with the higher detail, the viewer can't avoid being right there amongst it all.
Is this a narrow gauge G scale? Beautiful work, is this open to public?
I would highly Agree All the way.
I 😊😊 like the layout it shows alot of detail just like it's real it's great cool and neat 😊😊 there's a old sawmill there and a steam engine 2 pull the stamp mill w a mine and there's a steam donkey there 2 pull the logs alot of buildings makes the layout great and all of the people there 2 keep the work going 😊😊 I like the model trains when I was young there wasn't many places then 2 go and see them 😮😮 I just found out not long ago there was a toy train show not far away I didn't know they even had 1 there until just lately last when I hear about something they always wait until the last minute be 4 U ever hear anything about it that's bad 😮😮 OMG 1 22 2O24
2:05 Bigfoot sighting caught on camera
LOL...A female Bigfoot at that I think! 😁🤣
Mcloughlin Guy I did not see any Bigfoot at 2:05.
Beautifully detailed.
Me recuerda a mi infancia y mis juguetes de Thomas y sus amigos 😅
Outstanding I would like to know what gauge this layout is
This is not a model railroad.
This is an alternate reality.
Would love to know where this layout is located. Does anyone know?

Could have used some wide shots. A bit too much close ups..Superb modeling though..
the OLD passenger train cars aren't too different than 21st century jet planes!
Watch out.... This is a time machine.
What is that steam engine model number? It's amazing!!! I want it!
What kind of trains are these and where did you buy them from ?
Some nice track side filming from a "human" height.
Which gauge is it?
Large Scale or G-Scale which varies between 1:20 to 1:29. One scale clue is the type of screwed rail clamps.
Where can I go to see this in person?
www.finescalemodeling.org
What are the dimensions of the layout?
This 1:20.3 scale modular model railroad consisting of forty modules for a layout size of 45 feet by 45 feet. The railroad consists of 400 feet of hand laid code 250 aluminum rails that are hand spiked with individual tie plates onto wood ties with a total of 16 turn-outs.
Need4Life What wheel arrangement is on the steam engine 488? Never could see all the driver’s as the front of the engine stayed in a shadow. I’m guessing 2-8-2.
What about the rest of the layout? You know, the one the guys in the background are working...
