They are not a subspecies. DNA has proven they are the exact same cougar as the ones out west in Texas, Colorado California etc. They arent endangered because if they all died in Florida you coukd ship in a truckfull from out there and no one would know tje difference

Same in California, they were totally hunted out, but through public out cry and conservation they have made a tremendous come back, it is not uncommon for one to wander into a neighborhood looking for some water, but also, crossing freeways and eating rodents that have been poisoned is the number one hazard for them.
Mother cougars are some of the best parents in the animal world and this would be mom with her teenager kids ,judging by their size those 3 smaller cats will be on their own very soon

They actually call them Panthers, as I still picture a Panther being a black Leopard. In California we call these cats Mountain Lions as in Colorado they’re considered Cougars

Well you know what I was Born & Raised in Ft Myers Fla MY Sister an# her family has lived in Naples going on 47 years, ...I cannot put the blame on these Animals that are Roaming our Streets & Neighborhoods, because these BIG Construction Company's come to Southwest Fla & are just Taking Away these Animals homes and its Very Sad 😔 especially when you read that there is 17 million homes vacant in Southwest Fla today , so why do they keep on Building Building & Building? The once Trees & Wooded areas are what made some parts of Fla so Beautiful, So really News do your job and do your homework as to why these Animals are out roaming ? They are not going to hurt anybody there just trying to find another Home , Trust me I know how these Animals feel because when Biden opened the Border Southwest Fla has been so overcrowded hmmmm. That's all I have to say about that or else I would be here for days kinda would be like writing a Book ...

The Florida panther has no known record of ever attacking and killing a human, they are nor like the western mt lions. I think a bobcat which Florida has would be more aggressive towards you, no fears of them.

Been hiking in the everglades for years and never seen one.
Chances are you’ll never see one in the Everglades. They are more numerous in big cypress

There are panthers in South Georgia. Black panthers have been seen here also.

These aren't real panthers but a subspecies of cougars. I can see these have dim spots while cougars in the rest of the country do not.
