Ummm, no. Photopills is a photography planning app. You need a camera app...and this changes depending on whether you have an android phone or an iphone.
Does this app need an active internet connection? Is there any way to pre-load the app with a location your travelling to? Example, if I’m travelling for vacation and don’t have a data plan and won’t be on wifi, can I still use the app and the AR feature?
Hi Greg, I’ve used it in areas where I have no phone signal just fine. I’m not sure when going abroad. I might have to test it to find out..and then do a video on it...🤔 Thanks for watching. 👍
With light pollution I just find the light pollution map websites and then save them to my phone, so it appears as a square on my phone and takes me directly to the website. 👍
Yes it will. The only thing it might not do is update your location, so the best bet is to open it when you still have a signal so it knows the approximate location you're at. 👍

Callibration is little bit not good. Also found similar to this app, Planit pro for photographers, which is also the same. But have equal facilities. The virtual reality view finder in this app is good. Take a trial. Hope you will love it.
That’s excellent...and I agree, sometimes the calibration can be a little off. I always take a compass with me on photo shoots just to make sure it’s right. I’ll have to try planitpro...will be interesting to see how different it is. I’ve purchased the photographers ephemeris but that looks to be not good compared to PhotoPills. Thanks for watching!! 😁👍

I’ve never had a problem with it. The compass on the phone seems to work with no signal and the ar functions seem to run off that. I’d suggest checking out the locations with the app before you go and then keeping the app open in the background.
I thought this was in Namibia. I was gonna ask you about some tips getting around the desert. I have this wild idea of renting a 4 by 4 and driving from Cape Town all the way to Namibia and camp out there.
Now, I’ve never done that drive...only ever gone as far as Langebaan, but I think it’s doable. 4x4 driving in the desert can be tricky sometimes, it’s best to travel in a group of at least two 4x4s if you’ll be in the dunes with tow ropes, compressors and rescue gear. It’s very easy to get stuck! If you’re sticking to the highways it’s a lot more straight forward. If I was you, I’d ask around and find out what the drive is like off people who have already done it...Namibia is definitely a place I want to visit...fantastic dark skies and huge dunescapes! Good luck with that trip and let me know how you get on! 👍
