    IMO, PhotoPills is such good value for money that put into the context of your other gear, its price doesn't even come close to an issue. Good, clear video - many thanks!

      100% the only reason I hesitated on price was because I’ve always said I’d never pay for an app lol... and I’m cheap. Tremendous value and definitely worth it

    As always, we’ll done. I would add the use of the compass button when planning. It seems to be one of my go to buttons.
    We can spend $1200 on a lens, then cheap it on a $10 app that for me is one of the most used tools in my bag.
    Keep it coming

    I'm always a bit... confused when some people (photographers are an *outstanding* example here!) are saying they don't want to pay for PhotoPills. I see it that way: You paid hundreds - maybe even thousands - of dollars for a new camera? What's about this 50mm 1.4 lens? Or that 200mm 2.0? Not to mention all the Accessories (Batteries, Memory cards, *Filters* ). How much do you pay Adobe on a monthly basis though there are indeed quite powerful *free* and, if you insist, open source, photo editing programs out there? So... I think ten bucks for an App with the functions of PhotoPills (Or any App like it) isn't asked too much at all. 😅
    Anyway: A *really* great tutorial about a really great app! 👍

    I bought this app to try to judge the light on hiking trips. I have to say, after watching this and many other videos like this, life is too short. This takes the art right out of photography.

    • @DavidJohnstonPhoto

      @@DavidJohnstonPhoto Good video David. Learned a lot that I couldn’t get from other videos. Maybe I’ll feel differently about PhotoPills someday. But I find the app is not very intuitive to navigate and extremely tedious to use in the field. You need tiny fingers and a magnifying glass. Might be better suited for a desktop or iPad planning from home in my opinion. Would love to see them simply screens and active controls.

    Thanks for the video. I just started to use PhotoPills and I'm blown away by how powerful and useful it is.
    That being said, and no offence, but I find it a bit shocking to say that the main drawback is the price.
    And at 02:48 : "I don't like to pay for Apps... " )
    Imagine just a second how much time and effort has gone into de development of PhotoPills.. I think the price of 10USD is totally justified and still accesible for everyone. I hate subscriptions too, but this is a one time payment.
    Big up to the developers.

    • @DavidJohnstonPhoto
      @DavidJohnstonPhoto  2 года назад +1

      I agree it’s a justified payment. And I know the developers and I’ve told them this myself. I just don’t like paying for apps. I believe that if they made the basic free and then a paid pro version I’d me much happier and would actually pay for the pro.

    After clicking on the Planner in the app, I couldn't find a way to enter Death Valley, so how do I plan from NY?

    • @DavidJohnstonPhoto
      @DavidJohnstonPhoto  4 года назад +1

      When you’re planning, you do have to manually move the map to the location you’ll visit with your fingers. When you’re there it will find the location via gps

    • @Martingj56
      @Martingj56 4 года назад +1

      So if I don’t know the exact location on the map I will never going to find it? A good location finder is the most essential feature an app like this needs. A waste of money even with the rest of the options. I regret buying it.

    You go on and on about the price of a $10 app to people who have probably paid thousands of dollars for photo equipment and maybe hundreds for post-processing software and/or apps. I don't get that.
