As well as he plays this and as difficult as this piece is; James at times does not even look at the Guitar, but can be seen staring off into the distance. That's how good he is.
Forget the chops, and the technique, he has the soul of Schenker; that blazing intensity that Mad Michael brought to his solos. And yet, as well as he plays it, James makes it his own. The world will be hearing from him.

A little background. "Lights out" was part of my High School years. I've been a metalhead since the late 70's. I'm 53 now and still a metalhead. I play drums and guitar. So, I know my topic, and let me say something. You, sir are OUTSTANDING. You've got the chops, you play with emotion, you're inventive and your playing SWINGS. (SWING: That's what sets Ed Van Halen apart from his imitators. Listen to the feel and pulse of his playing on "I'm the one" and you'll immediately understand what I mean.) You can really go places with your talent. Don't let anything foul stop you or slow you down, especially ego, chicks, booze and dope. Have fun, and NEVER let any bullshit choices get in the way of your goals. Best of luck to you!

This is by far the best version of Lights Out ever! You need to get to the states and get seen by someone who can nurture your talent.
@@anthonylennen4067 ….. He has been to the states and was close to being signed, but he caught Meningitis and after recovering has suffered further complications. He is slowly recovering but he has lost 2 years.

Your awesome James I've played guitar since I was 9 I'm 55 now I can't play anymore I was diagnosed with sclearoderma a auto immune disease that damages muscles . seeing you jam makes me smile I think of when I was playing guitar it was a accomplishment to me and i miss playing but i reflect back on the good times I had keep on jamming never stop you are great don't ever let anyone tell you it's a waste of time music is forever it never dies.

a hell of a treat for the street and obviously the people passing by are clueless and don't get it that a great guitar player is here. your playing and taste in covering this classic is much appreciated...
if you look on the album, Strangers In The Night, a masterpiece of rock and roll, by UFO, you will see that some of it was recorded here, in Chicago at the old Amphitheater...ok...in 79, we lived one mile from the Amphitheater, and we could HEAR them rocking inside...it was beyond EPIC to hear this from our front porches at 11pm on a summers night, and those of you old enough know, that ANYTHING was possible at a concert especially like this one, possible and likely!....BTW, the kid is better than fantastic!
I'm 56 now and I'm so excited when young musicians embrace the music of my teens, there was something in the air in the 70s and we knew were in the midst of musical genius. UFO and the Scorpions with Uli Roth were our way to rebel against corporate rock like Styx and Journey. Another guitarist you would like from that era is Frank Marino. You play the licks better than many I've heard but wanted you to know there was something bigger than just the licks. Those guys wrote great rock music that got us kids through some tough shit. Thank you for keeping that spirit alive,

Those were the days! I miss them., Shop owners sent him free drinks sometimes, and when he played out side W.H.Smiths they actually opened their double doors! . He got more smiles etc than it appears on here. Mostly great times, just the odd complaint but very rare.It's a shame he's too busy these days (but good too).Chris.
Wow! James, that was some really good shredding, Schenker style. I was first introduced to Michael Schenker and UFO when I was 16 years old, their Force It vinyl LP. It's the only album that I ever played side-1 twice in a row before playing side-2. I was so impressed and blown away with Schenker's guitar playing, he instantly became one of my favorite lead guitartists. Your playing is right up there with Schenker's playing, yet without the Marshall stacks nor the iconic Flying V.
Very impressive and you look very young, so may you have a great musical future. Press on and up, James!...👍👌🎸🎶👏🥇🏆

James, I am 55 today and just happened to find this while browsing RUclips for great guitar clips. Found your 2011 Guitarist of The Year video and led me here. UFO are one of my favourite bands from way back when and Lights Out a firm top song of theirs. Boy oh boy did you nail it! Studio quality and note for note perfect, easily as good as when I saw then early 80's. Loved every second, you are certainly a star of the future if not already... Much respect young man, I hope you become as famous as I think you will. Made me very happy - also Freebird...wow! Amazing stuff....Ray R

Strangers in the Night is my fav all time live album !!! IMO the best hard rock live album ever recorded. James does it great justice. This is almost note for note just like Strangers !! YOU ARE FANTASTIC !!! So much better than what passes for talent in most markets !!!
