Twitch mod for Yozu here. Saw a few quesitons about his runes, item and summoner choices so i decided to reply with stuff which may answer your questions. Yozu generally has a few rules when it comes to items right now. A common question that occurs on stream often is: when do you go horizon or shadowflame. The general rule Yozu always tell people when it comes to this is, go horizon if enemy has decently squishy champs and/or a lack of enchanters / people with shields. If enemy has alot of shields, lets say something like lulu or karma support with a shieldbow adc, archangel mage midlane etc then youd wanna run shadowflame over horizon as you will have the full effect from shadowflame often. To further help people understand the damage diffrence vs certain mr thresholds i made this spreadsheet, tldr of this spreadsheet is horizon does more dmg if enemy has less than 40 mr or more than 140. This is if you get 15 pen from shadowflame (which is its midpoint of what it can give). Check it out for yourself if you further wanna see the numbers yourself: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QxpcIZxjhdTFZ7YAiQgU5DJRZt8_69t7_mKw5G4I4T8/edit?usp=sharing When it comes to the diffrent itembuilds he uses there's a few diffrent ones: The most common would be to get a early dark seal then purchase Ludens. After ludens purchase mejais if you have 6-8 stacks on your dark seal. After this build horizon or shadowflame based on the rule i talked about earlier. After either horizon or shadowflame is buildt proceed to build rabadons to get a spike of ability power and then for last item purchase void staff to shred more of the enemy mr. His second setup would be Crown into Banshee. This setup is used into engage heavy teamcomps who will often run you down with engages on cooldown to kill you. This setup uses comet as runepage and for the secondary runes he would run cheap shot and ingenious hunter. Reasoning for ingenous hunter is to reduce the cooldown of the banshee and crown. His item order here would be similar to the ludens setup but instead of using ludens + horizon or shadowflame, he'd instead build crown first item into then banshee. After banshee he would build similar to ludens where he goes rabadons into void staff. In rare cases there's a third build which is used, this one swaps out the ludens for everfrost. This setup is used in the rare games where enemy would have yasuo and samira on the team. Reasoning behind everfrost in this matchup is that windwalls cant block the projectile of everfrost. This lets you use everfrost as an additonal defence option against yasuo and samira who tends to nullify luxes kit do to her being fully skillshot based. As for runes, his rune choice is mainly preferance and can change simply based on the fact whichever he wins more with x week. Both first strike and comet is used alot. Comet is generally the safest option as it deals slightly more damage than first strike, and you'll have a safe way to deal constant dmg without really any drawbacks. First strike on the other hand does slightly less damage but it gives you the added benefit of gaining passive gold from abilities. Id suggest testing out both runes and find out whichever you prefer as a player when it comes to usage. As for his summoners they're also pretty much preferance right now. The most used setup would be flash + ignite because as stated in the video, your early game is pretty strong and you can often end up killing people level 2 or 3, so using ignite makes the chance to kill even higher. If you're a lux who struggles into matchups such as zed (or certain assassins), you could try out exhaust or barrier as a counter to their burst. With the first strike setup teleport is also used a decent amout right now as the main point with first strike setup is to scale and not really kill as much as comet would early. If you further got questions, feel free to reply to this thread and ill reply as well as i can, or you can join his discord: discord.gg/Yozu where you use the chat #ask-yozu to ask him diffrent questions that you may have about lux or his builds
i got matched against this guy in a normals at the beginning of the season and he built jak sho on lux..... i will never forgive him for what he did to me
I'd like to learn about his rune and item choices as well. What compels him to run ignite or barrier, why does he take comet instead of first strike etc. These otps try many different combinations and I think that difference in experience would be a big help if they shared it.
Generally, I don't like to include those things because the meta can shift really fast. Unless the item is a core part of the champion's identity, the difference in comet vs F strike is mostly based on what other mids are popular and what items are good.
might also depend on match up, comet -> poke; first strike -> scaling. which translates to, if you think you can outpoke your match up (melee assasin or characters with less range than you), then comet could be viable, if you know you wont be able to outpoke your oponent (kassadin inbuilt mr, takes dorans, sustain runes etc) tank with lots of sustain like cho or gragas, but you are able to dish out damage while being safe ish first strike is a good choice. i could be wrong but atleast that's the way i see it, and id apply same reasoning for items

Honestly disappointed that pathing wasn't mentioned to landing skill shots? The instant someone walk between the turret and the wall, it's a free bind. Lots of other ways autopathing and terrain can nearly guarantee kills. Combining that with when the enemy wants to cs under turret, and it's free real estate (assuming the enemy jungler isn't about to show up)
idk the most amusing part of this video is that it's sponsored by brilliant. Like, Dong Huap is literally trying to sell self-improvement or self-teaching courses to gamers. I don't know about us but in China this itself will blow millions of parent's minds. Awesome job Dong Huap!
"Its almost as hard as learning computer science by yourself" Oh no, I heard the sponsorship immediately, and already knew what it was. Thats bad. Very bad.
The thing about Lux U learn when u got a few million into her mastery is hold ur Q for their move. and E spam it hard to dodge and U have a higher chance to land Q for passive proc. Throwing Q straight without E is kinda dumb or last resort
I love lux and honestly no champ is like her. The fact that she has a range slow with a detonation you can do yourself, a trap that can trap multiple champs when levelled, a shield and a fucking nuke of an ult is incomparable. Especially when you can get that ult cooldown to 11 seconds. Ive seen people use her to solo top. She's devastating if used right.
The zed matchup is hilarious. Lux base armor is trash and low mobility makes her look like ez pickings for zed however over eager zeds ulting in are sitting ducks because they are always spit out at the back of the champion. Fire off the easiest q of your life behind you as this happens and you can full combo before he can jump back to his other shadow 😂.
Sounds like they got good on lux by just going through the trenches. By trenches I mean the tough times that most people don't think is worth it, and would instead just play another champion.
Lux is garbo without some next level skill shot predictions. I've always been good at her, but playing against everyone with high mobility these days is just frustrating. I'll still pick her when the enemy doesn't have too many dodgers, but I'll pass her up when the enemy team has 2 or 3 high mobile champs.
