The Village always has your back and those of the Flamingos. God bless the ones who don’t get to choose, but are just dragged along to witness the sorrow of what can, and often does, go wrong. You are a gifted, professional journalist and the Village does not yet deny women for their ability to successfully survive. Go forth and kick ass for yourself and your children.

@Stephanie Harlowe take it 1 day at a time. Right now, ya'll are probably all still in a fog of disbelief. Just keep taking care of the things you've got to take care of. You'll get to the other side. (Stop blaming yourself. We all play, would of, could of, should of.)

I’m Mexican too and I was a Junior in high school in a Texas city border town with Juarez Mexico who also was visited with tourists. Thank you for the history lesson on my culture and on the drug cartels as well. My prayers to the Kilroy family but what about all the unknown Mexicanos who also went missing nobody rallied for then what about all the women who were killed in Juarez who’s bodies were found after being kidnapped coming home from working across the border in El Paso all these people also have a back story just because these families didn’t have the funds or resources to get help to find there loved ones shouldn’t be ignored I have yet to see stories about these crimes

@@natalialegarreta9362It's the same reason you don't hear the stories of the same thing going on in Africa or Ukraine or in the middle East ... When something is completely common to a place the stories get lost.
It's the fact that something is unusual that gets people's attention. If you hear about a cartel killing in Sinaloa it's an everyday thing. If you hear about a cartel killing in Vermont it's a once a decade story that will capture people's attention.

I was young and native in my early 20s when Mark Kilroy was murdered. The horrific details of what happened to Mark gave me nightmares. This case has stayed with me even after all these years. It changed the way I looked at the world. It was the first time I realized Satanism existed. The shock and horror knowing what these evil depraved people did to Mark and others for power and money. I remember the interviews of his family. My heart broke 💔 for his parents. I didn't know his dad wrote a book. Thank you for letting us know. 🙏

I was being recruited for a job in Harlingen. I knew it was a border town & had kind of a sketchy reputation but I’d never been to that part of TX so I figured what the hell. I go down, interview for a couple hours, and then a couple managers from the company drove me to South Padre & we spent most of the day there. I didn’t take the job because it was pretty obvious I needed to speak Spanish to be able to work in Harlingen. South Padre was beautiful though. I remember being on those wood walkways, the palm trees, the sand, the ocean air…being from north Alabama, Padre is the only reason I even thought about taking that job. But it’s an hour away from Harlingen too so 🤷‍♀️

I live in Brownsville was born in Harlingen Texas I don't go to South Padre Island that much anymore but the beach is nice. I think everyone knows about this case from here. I cross to Matamoros sometimes but not that much anymore because last February when I crossed back the customs officers detained me for 45 minutes at the gateway bridge accusing me of drug smuggling, of course they had to let me cross because I have nothing to do with that. The only problems I've ever had in Matamoros is from the policia transito when they pull me over for a minor or imagined traffic infraction then they attempt to extort me for money, other than that, I love Mexico and living on the border and having the ability to go get good food on the other side of the wall.

I once went to the very same place in spring break. It was not safe and that was in 2000. It’s much worse now, and I have to thank God nothing happened to me or my friends.

I was in high school in Texas when this happened. The state went through some bizarre changes because of this case. School rules changed dramatically. (Pasadena ISD, for reference)
    1. You could no longer wear peace symbols (it was supposedly an upside down cross with the arms broken downwards for satan).
    2. You could no longer wear band shirts, especially bands like Metallica or Ozzy Osborne. Again, satan. I had just gotten back from a trip to the state Alabama. I had a shirt from the university. I got called out by a teacher thinking it was the country music band Alabama. So it was across the board.
    3. You could no longer wear outfits of solid colors, such as all black, all white, etc. Again, satan.
    4. Any sort of jewelry that was more of the goth styles or "witchy" like pentagrams, crosses (except a single proper upwards cross necklace).
    5. Only "natural" colors of hair. Like Stephanie's color wouldnt be permitted.
    6. Only certain hair styles and the guys had very specific lengths and sideburn lengths. No more mohawks, liberty spikes, etc. This amused me greatly because at the same time we had the HUGE hair styles "higher the hair the closer to g-d" generation.
I'm sure there were others, but those are the ones I remember. The school dress codes have gotten even stricter since then.

I went to jr and high school in Alvin in the 90s and this was definitely still the rules!! I was regularly ‘reported’ to local churches as a ‘devil worshiper’ 🙄 A decade later (in the early 2000s) my husband had just graduated from the police academy and was being interviewed by one of the local sheriff offices. During the interview they asked if he was a ‘devil worshiper’ 🤣 Apparently while looking into his background, someone mentioned he was married to me. He did NOT get hired.

This is a fascinating corner of sociology/psychology. When people feel threatened by something they can't understand, they have a reflex aversion to anything that LOOKS like it, and fear of pollution, and belief that they can be safe by looking safe... it's so achingly human.

That EXACTLY where the peace sign came from. The "hippy" who designed it was an Occultist. They didn't just pull that out of there butt lol.

    • @LittleKikuyu
      @LittleKikuyu Месяц назад

@kelliintexas3575 This is complete and utter nonsense. Religious nutters will turn anything good into some „occultist“ omen. This mindset is similarly dangerous to the „beliefs“ that got Mark killed, imo. Do folks in Texas hunt witches too? 🙈 The peace sign is a combination of the two international semaphore letters n and d for „nuclear disarmament“! It’s a symbol of peace and pacifism and I have an idea why it would be abolished in Texan schools 🙄🙄🙄

Glad to see your face pop up. If you feel like you are being swallowed by pain , just keep swimming, just keep swimming and know you are the bright spot in others darkest days. I know words hold such little meaning when you feel life kicking you in the teeth and there is no word in any language that can help transfer pain and grief to others to share but the human spirit is the strongest force on earth and thats not even counting the power of a momma, you are in my prayers and im cheering for you.

I lived in Brownsville, texas, my entire life. When I was younger, my family and I would go to matamoros on the weekends to go visit family, eat, and go to the dentist since it’s cheaper there. Once I got older and learned about this case, it was so haunting seeing the restaurant and being near the area where he was taken. I hope his soul is at peace.

My parents never let me go to the island during spring break because of it

I KNOW that I have said this before more than once, but by golly, I just cannot fathom HOW YOU do EVERYTHING that you do?!?! Are you a speed reader? Seriously?! Between being a Mom (which IS a 24/7 job) you’re an actress (I don’t even know how many hours or days that takes!) 2 shows that requires research & fact checking (again have NO idea how many hours &/or days that takes up!) putting it all into order & so you can present it (?? hours &/or days) & you read 2 books?! Sincerely, Thank You for all you do to help the families of the victims & educate the rest of us! + I almost forgot- Criminal Coffee too!
