I think the biggest 'plus' is that the Efteling has heart. I like Disneyland, but it lacks soul. Everything is very much focused on commercial ideas. While Efteling of course wants to make money, that aspect doesn't feel so profound. Perhaps it's the old fairy-tales, but to me it will always be the best themepark I've ever visited.
The Efteling was my whole childhood and still when I go there as an adult it is still magical. I went to Disney Land in Paris but nothing can compare to The Efteling.

The music and design is all part of it. These days with holograms too. I think the best parks just went back and forth for inspiration, they are not really rivals, you don't go to one park to then not go to another, there are too few of them to be direct competitors. It's really beautiful because you have so many trees and you find small details around corners like singing mushrooms and little seating areas. It's not build to sell you stuff at every corner, you can bring your own food and have a picnic easily too. And yes it's creepy, just like the old fairy tales were designed to teach kids a lesson things in the park are often unsettling. Like in one of the rides you have people who look like they are drowning in prison but that just adds to the magic that not everything looks "safe". Kids love a bit of spooky stuff as long as the parents are near.
It's actually interesting how Disney is more about programming and indoctrination, I've learned. It s rather incredible how everything is picture perfect but the real world is not, next to that the messages give children a wrong view of how the world works with many of the stories in there

I was there a week ago (and will be again in December ;) ). It is not just a park with a lot to do. Even if you take away all rides and coasters, it is still a beautiful park to walk around in.

Well i can tell you Disneyland California almost doesnt have a pretty atmosphere then Disney Paris is much better, but Efteling has it all, its truly magical im 41 now but still love the fairytale forest old and new tales! Even new ones can look like they are there for years!
Disneyland in California is about half the size as Efteling, maybe even less than half. It was fun to go there once as they have great rides but Efteling was more fun as there's more to do. Also it's very expensive these days and Efteling is more affordable.
I live 10 minutes away from the Efteling. I actually have a subscription to it. Sometimes we go near closing time to make sure we don’t have to stand in line. This was obviously pre COVID, we’re planning to pay a visit sometime soon. Most kids aren’t afraid of the characters in the Efteling because they visit it from an early age. Love your videos btw! Nice and honest reaction and no hate what so ever. Really appreciate it!
I'm 49 now. But I always loved De Efeteling. It's an adventure for my kids and a nostalgic trip for me. My favorite atraction is the waterlillys. A beautiful song (written by the Belgian queen) with fairies coming out of the lillys. I go there every year. Not only for my kids but for the nostalgic feeling I get from visiting this great amusementpark.
The character of the park changed a lot in time. Once kids could do a lot of things, playground, rowing pond, canoe pond, swimming pool etc. Now they are being amused. In spite of this, it is a beautiful park with lots of details and quality. But you have to read the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson before you visit. Only than you can understand what you see and experience.
I remember a Top Pop special with Kate Bush in the just opened Haunted House in 1978. I thought Kate's music and the Efteling were a good chosen pair. Kate's music and voice scared me a bit when I was a kid. But I now think Kate Bush is a fantastic artist. She's fabulous
I remember that Bob was just opened, we had a schooltrip to Efteling and that they were taping a episode of a musicshow that day. Benny Neyman had a hit those days (Waarom fluister ik je naam nog) and we saw it being taped at the balcony of the Bob. Vew days later it was on tv and I saw me and my classmates standing in line. :-) my seconds of fame 🤣
You mentioned something about kids getting creeped out by stuff in the Efteling and I can confirm that that is absolutely 100% true. I used to have nightmares for weeks on an end about the big bad wolf that's waiting outside the house of the seven young goats (another less well known fairytale). Despite that, though, I can wholly recommend you go and see the park! It's honestly amazing!
It makes sense once you know that Fairytales were originally meant to scare children away from certain areas or teach them certain lessons. The original stories were way darker and the Disney adaptations removed some of the more grimm and darker aspects of them. And yes, certain fairy tales are far less known outside of Europe.
If you do visit the efteling, then eat a pancake in the pancake restaurant. It is a complete experience as there is a magical oven in the center to keep you entertained. I actually asked my wife to marry me in the efteling on a horsedrawn carriage during the winter efteling.
When I was a little kid, I have been there a few times. There was "Sprookjes Bos", which I really liked, there was the little train, there was the carousel and "Diarama Hall" where there was a huge riding miniature train display. In there was also small theater, where they had a water-organ-light show... nothing compared to what I saw at 13:38 (I believe it was called "het water orgel") update: How it is special to me: I feel like that when I was little, the park was about using your imagination. It seems now it is about being entertained/excited (and it's probably expensive). As a kid I had a book called "a basket full of fairytails" (een korfje vol met sprookjes) and remember being excited to see 'sleeping beautity' 'holle bolle gijs' and such.
yes! so happy you did a reaction about the Efteling:) I'm from Kaatsheuvel, and went there so many times. It's the best themepark for me! So many childhoud memories, so I might be biased, but i honestly think Disney doesn't compare. Especially the setting, so many trees, ducks and fish everywhere, its even nice to just walk around. When you visit the Netherlands you should definitely visit, I'm sure you'll love it!
The Efteling is just not far away from my home. Just a little Backyard idea ^^! (9 km). I’m just fan of the park, and visit it couple times in the year😊
I just love this theme park! We went there many times with the family. Anton Pieck, the designer of the park, lived in the village of Bloemendaal. Not far from where I live in the city of Haarlem. Many of the stunning villas in Bloemendaal remind me of the magical houses in Efteling. Anton Pieck is a greatly underrated artist in the Netherlands, mostly by the elite art scene. But I really enjoy the romantic & nostalgic feeling of his work. I hope to one day enjoy his works being displayed by the Rijksmuseum, and earning him the respect he truly deserves.
No themepark can beat the Efteling. The music, the building style, the atmosphere, the imagination, the old school fairytales. Sleeping beauty was brought in with a hearse, builders drinking Jenever to get the building just right. It is the total package. The efteling stole my heart. Can you tell i'm a superfan.🤗
Oh yes the efteling, so many memories. I visited it often and still do. It stays magical to walk through the park. It has something in store for everyone. I love all the green in the park, it gives it a serene vibe. When your here in the netherlands, you really have to visit it besides a toppers and ladies of soul concert😉💕
The Efteling is my childhood favorite park.. and I’ve been to Disney Land in Orlando and Busch Gardens in Tampa, both in Florida and I’ve been to Disney in Paris.. but nothing compared to The Efteling. It’s still my all time favorite. One side of the park is fairytale land and the other side are the themed rides.. but still cosy enough and lots of green and trees. I love the music mushrooms 🍄 near the talking tree where the ground shivers when he begins to speak. The flying fakir, when he flies by the tulips 🌷come up and go down again. It’s small time fun but so enjoyable.and I always eat my lunch in the little boats because it’s 45 minutes of easy looking around while eating lunch.
Thank you for your reaction. I knew you would like it. I live real close to the Efteling. Been there at least a 100 times. No amusement Park beats the Efteling. Love it.
My mom turned 65 last week and our gift was a day at the Efteling with the family. She was playing there as a child back in the days (it was more like a playground with a fairytale forest then). I live 15 minutes by bike from the Efteling, so always by bike🚲💪💃🏼 I've been to Disneyland in California en Paris, but I love the Efteling te most❤️
On your visit, the Efteling is a must! Visiting the Efteling with busses full of school kids has been a staple for decades. Even companies send groups of just adults to the Efteling. I don't know anyone who has never visited this place. The most amazing thing about the Efteling is that is able to feed the imagination of children while entertaining adult just alike. Adult who visit the fairytale forest and have visited as a child will most certainly feel nostalgic. I bet more dutchies feel emotional about de Efteling than about the major museums
The (in my eyes) true wonder of the Efteling is the ridiculous amount of detail. When you take a ride with the steam train, you will see parts of the park, you won't see by foot and see the back of some of the buildings. They are in exactly the same style as the front. And then the music. There are a lot of tunes in the Efteling that wil just get stuck in your head (teee-te-te-teee-te-te-te-te-teee someone?) but also the most beautiful tunes and they always fit the ride/attraction. Really the most amazing theme park in the world.
I had nightmares for weeks as a little kid because of dreamflight. About in the middle of the ride, there was a mechanic gnome with an angry look. The mechanic was an overhead swing with his club. Cried for the entire 2nd half of the ride... 😅
Yes!!!! Let’s literly do that. That would be great! Let’s meet up there And have a drink, a stroll And eat some poffertjes 🥳 (mini panecakes) would love that. It’s an open place and not so formal. Perfect 👍🏼
I work in the Efteling . And yes it is a magical world. If you ever come to the Netherlands on holiday. Then you should visit the Efteling. We make sure you have the day of your life
Dreamflight is amazing, everybody young and old comes out with a big smile, and the winter Efteling is beautiful with the fires and Christmas singers .... a real fairy tale in the Netherlands 🥰
That is the place i grew up in. I up to this day live two streets aways from the Efteling. It's been a second home for me my entire life. It's where we swam in the pools that used to be in the park. It's where we went with friends. It's where you went with your girlfriend. We spent entire days in that park having all kinds of fun. We've seen the park change over the decades. It made into the person i am today.
I hope you do come to the Netherlands soon! We went to the Efteling last friday for the... I lost count of how many times I've been there as a Dutch person!
Going to the Efteling was the greatest present my parents could ever give me as a child. We have other amusement parks around here, but none as great as Efteling. Although Walibi might be better for thrillseekers. My sister was always afraid of the dragon in the fairytale forest. You could interact with it by trying to steal its treasure, but it'd come to life the moment you did. My sister didn't even dare to walk by there. Droomvlucht/Dream Flight is my absolute favorite ride in the park. It was the first ever ride I went on the first time I went to the park and until this day it's still my favorite experience ever. It's a lot darker in there than video would suggest. The place doesn't do well with cameras or pictures sadly. Either way, anyone visiting the Efteling, I highly recommend this ride. Even if you're more of a thrillseeker, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy this.
The Efteling is one of the oldest still open amusement parks in the world. It's however nowhere near as old as the oldest still open amusement park in the world. Bakken in Denmark opened in 1583 meaning it's not just 369 years older than the Efteling but also 193 years older than the US.
Efteling ………omg…..grew upwith this place you would love to visit…….it is a really beautiful park…….I think you will have to stay in our country for a full year to experience everything that’s possible in our tiny country 😁
Efteling has created it's own themestory, with its own characters who continue to return thoughout the park. It is possibly the best themed amusementpark after Disneyland. Efteling's darkride 'Symbolica' is loved worldwide for it's excellent theming (even the roof is decorated in the theme!). Efteling did not only create a theme on it's own, it also created lots and lots of memories for generations on end. It's a wonderful themepark for everyone from age 3 to 90 really. You often see whole families visiting Efteling and honestly? Are you even concidered a real Dutch person if you've never visited Efteling? I think not.
I visted a lot of theme parcs in europe and this is defently the most beautiful one. It doesn't have a lot of good thrill rides but it is magical. If you are going spend at least two days at it so you can really emerge yourself into the parc.
I absolutely love de Efteling. As I child I went there every Summer and now I take my son every Summer. In July I stayed there for 5 days .Their hotel and cabins are also amazing.
Childhood magical memories but still try to visit the park at least 1 time a year with my daughters. To witness the magic sparkle in the eyes of our girls as they get submerged in that magical fairytale feeling that to my opinion only Efteling can provide! Love that park and all that it embodies! You could do your meet and greet there Highly?! Just saying... 😁🤙🏽
The park was opened on May 31, 1952 and through time it changed from a naturepark with playground and fairytale forest to what it is today. Its twice as big as Disneyland in California and is 3 years older than this Disneyland. The fairytale forest is based on the fairytales of the Brothers Grimm, wellknown all over Europe, they might not be that wellknown in the rest of the world.
the reason why the style is way it is is because the netherlands has a Germanic background all the characters look like they can just come out of an old fairy tale book of a child that has been passed down through generations
The Efteling is very special , you can't get bored even if you visit every year, its every year a blast. The only thing is, its so big you walk, walk and walk a hole lot of miles if you want to see it all.
i have been going since i was a kid. have not been in 14 years but have been feeling an itch to return there. dreamflight volgelrok pagoda and the boats were always my favs. ow and the diorama is a great place to have lunch.
The Efteling is my favorite theme park ever, I just became the godmother of my little niece and can't wait for her to be older so I can take her there and she can really experience the magic
Walt Disney did actually get his inspiration for Disney from Efteling yes. He visited the park before he started building their Disney World. Ofcourse they couldnt admit this since they were building a direct competitor.
De Efteling has always been my favorite theme park. I've been wanting to go there again for years, but I couldn't find anyone to come with. So, if you are really planning a meet-up there, I'm game. What I also like about this park, that wasn't mentioned in this video, is that the prices are quite reasonable. I remember when I first visited the Universal Studios Hollywood, the admission was something like $39 in 1997. When I came back there it was around $50 in and it kept rising after that. It's now over $100. Who spends this much money on something like this? I certainly won't. De Efteling is 45€ at most. That's around $52. Some month are cheaper than that.
I must admit that in this video the characters look a bit creepy, but when coming there in person, it is only nice and weird in a good way. It always has its own style what makes it awesome. I have been coming to the efteling since my birth and i was never scared of any of the characters (except for the haunted house of course). I am now 18 and i still love the Efteling with all my heart. My favorite rides are "baron 1898" and "joris en de draak". Thank you so much for your reaction to my beautifull country!
I also feel like Efteling tends to focus more on costumer enjoyment then disney does. In the efteling you really dont have much merchandise shops to keep you spending and i feel like disney does also what efteling offers is you can bring your own food to the park and disney doesn't allow this and will charge you rediculous amounts of money for the food. And all staff in Efteling are just so goddamn friendly everytime
Hi highly. Yes Walt Disney. stayed at bosrijk village in Efleting. Walt took he's 4 year old son for he's birthday. yes Walt did take notes. And 3 years later on 17th July 1955. Walt opened Disneyland. From UK 🇬🇧👍👍
We always going to the efteling 2 times a year. Once in the summer and once in the winter. Traditie :) Only this year and last year due to covid not :(:(
Kids do get scared here. I commonly warn tourists about asking the mirror who is the most beautifull of all. The jump scare and the image is straight up grimdark horror. Nobody expects something this horrific in a theme park.
This character that you thought was scary, is a favorite for children. It deels for paper and reacts ifbyoy throw in a pièce of paper. Actually a smart truck to keep the park clean, because children are going out of their way to find a pièce of paper to throw it in his mouth. Then his head wobbles. The name of the character is holle-bolle Gijs. He is a character in one of the fairy tales.
No mention of Kate Bush which is a real shame. From childhood up till now my favorite Efteling related thing has always been Kate Bush singing in various places (wuthering heights in the Haunted house for example) as a promotion for the then ('78) new Haunted House. Her performance was absolutely magical. From 2007 onwards there has been a tombstone bearing her name on display. I've never seen it myself, as a child I knew it existed, having seen the special, but it was never in the actual park back in those days. But the thought of knowing it even exists is beautiful =)
The Efteling, who hasn't been there. You always have a wonderful day. Personally, I find the Dolls 🧙♂️ and Figures 👻 a bit scary🧞♂️ It is very busy, before you can enter an attraction 🎠 sometimes you have to wait half an hour🎢 But no problem🎡!!!! Fun with the family a day out it's just a party. Thank you, I was in DE EFTELING for 13 minutes💚👍💛
Alot of the fairytales are from the brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen. Those are the same fairytales Disney based alot of their movies on (but then with romantic glasses on because the stories are far more brutal). I grew up with both Disney and the Brothers Grim and Hans Christian Andersen (I have alot of fairy tale books) but my preference goes towards the stories from Hans Christian Andersen. Also the bobsled ride is not there anymore, I think a twin coaster called Max & Moritz has taken it's place and that one is one crazy ride and a highlight.
Best theme park in the world, the park you know in California may have some rides that look similar on the outside, but if you experience the Efteling you will 100% agree it's better
I am 36 years old now and i were 3 when me and my parents first went. Now I am pregnant with my first Child I cant wait to go there again a mom and make beautiful memories for the future
If you ever come to the Netherlands I would like to show you around. I studied Dutch history and can tell you a lot about the origin and also show you things that other tourists never see. I also live close to the Efteling and have an annual pass myself. So I've been coming here quite often for about 50 years. I can also get you in the parliament building because I have friends working there who are themselves in our parliament. So if you ever make the trip and want to use my invitation, just let me know I'll do it for free because I love your channel.
7.44 Half Moon/ Halve maen, wasn't that the name of the Dutch ship that first sailed up a North-American river now named the Hudson because it was captained by English born Henry Hudson?
I was a child in the sixties. I used to wander the woods there. There was a part with very rare birds in it, that didn't live elsewhere in the Netherlands. Also some very old, beautiful trees. Very beautiful woods. Unfortunately they don't exist nowadays. They are confiscated by the Efteling and changed, becoming part of the Efteling. So I can imagine people loving the Efteling. But me, I don't
It's a bittersweet thing for me as well. I like Efteling, a lot, but the more commercialistic it gets, the worse it gets. New ideas or technology are nice, but we don't need another footballstadium of Efteling any time soon.
Also I would like to add the music made for the different rides is amazing! Especially Villa Volta and of course the use of Dans Macabre for the haunted castle
The original European fairytales as, among others, recorded by the Grimm brothers are pretty dark and scary. Disney removed most of that. Efteling kept a lot closer to it. Kids can handle scary fairytales, it's the adults who need to be shielded from it.
My grandfather has actually worked on the technology behind the 'Carnaval' and 'Droomvlucht'. Whenever I go, those two are a must to visit for me!

The efteling discography is a wonder by itself definitely worth a try on spotify
I live 15 minutes by bike from the Efteling, so always by bike🚲💪💃🏼 I've been to Disneyland in California en Paris, but I love the Efteling te most❤️
It so cool my granddad actually made the house of the five senses and helped design it and he made the thatched roof with his own company 🤩
I go to the efteling now for more then 30 years every other year.. And I still adore it every time ❤️
Me too!! 😆❤️
Te te te. Dont please! I was there for hours with the little ones. I m sure I hear it now for the next days!
Even if you're more of a thrillseeker, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy this.
next year i am going with my grandchildren 4 days in the holidaycottages, looking forward to that😃
The Efteling is one of the oldest still open amusement parks in the world. It's however nowhere near as old as the oldest still open amusement park in the world. Bakken in Denmark opened in 1583 meaning it's not just 369 years older than the Efteling but also 193 years older than the US.
bro that amusement park was made before the netherlands even was it's own country
@@NaakteMolrattenZijnCool The Netherlands declared independence from Spain in 1581 so it was 2 years old when that park was opened.
@@Ozymandias1 I guess, I always count it as 1648
It didn’t even mention my favorite. The Vogelrock (bird rock), it’s a rollarcoaster inside in the dark. It’s awesome.
The Efteling were you feel yourself a kid again. It's great.
I absolutely love de Efteling. As I child I went there every Summer and now I take my son every Summer. In July I stayed there for 5 days .Their hotel and cabins are also amazing.
Growing up it was the highlight of the year visiting Efteling and I appreciate it even more more now visiting with my own kids
It is a family tradition to visit the Efteling, you'll take your kids and grandkids there because you went there as a kid and want to pass it on.
.
Yeah you definitely have to visit the Efteling!! Any idea when you going to visit the Netherlands?
anton pieck and walt disney were friends and they toke ideas from each other both ways ;)
Droomvlucht is beautiful. My favourite darkride. 🥰
Walt visited the efteling, the rest is history 😂
A source of inspiration for young and Walt... 😄
The owner of efteling and walt were also friends
actually that is a myth. walt visited the netherlands once to meet the dub studio for disney and no evidence that walt ever went there.
Kinda funny thing to think about
The Dutch granted the US their independence, the rest is history (So basically, the Dutch created Disney as well).
Efteling. I grow up with this. And I stil find it a weird park to visit. You see some very old stuff from back in the day's but also new things.
Great place to be! Especially if youre staying at one of the holiday parks located directly at the border of the theme park….Bosrijk or Loonsche land
i have been going since i was a kid. have not been in 14 years but have been feeling an itch to return there. dreamflight volgelrok pagoda and the boats were always my favs. ow and the diorama is a great place to have lunch.
To be honest this vid doesn't do the efteling justice while it really is much more spectacular....
True!
The Efteling is my favorite theme park ever, I just became the godmother of my little niece and can't wait for her to be older so I can take her there and she can really experience the magic
Here a employé of the Efteling😁 there is a very good relationship with the disneyparken in USA
I am going to be a father later this year and I am 100% taking my kid to de Efteling in a few years, can't wait it's been way too long for me.
Efteling!!!! You have Disney ... we have Efteling. There's so much history over there and a lot of people love this park!
Traditie :) Only this year and last year due to covid not :(:(
Hi Hilary. The long neck. Is from the fairy tale forest of animatronic. And figures inspired by the brothers Grimm. from UK 🇬🇧👍👍
'In the town of catshufel' 🤣
I've never been there yet, but it is on my list of places to visit some day.
Now you are gonna have to visit our beautiful country😁
No mention of Kate Bush which is a real shame. From childhood up till now my favorite Efteling related thing has always been Kate Bush singing in various places (wuthering heights in the Haunted house for example) as a promotion for the then ('78) new Haunted House. Her performance was absolutely magical. From 2007 onwards there has been a tombstone bearing her name on display. I've never seen it myself, as a child I knew it existed, having seen the special, but it was never in the actual park back in those days. But the thought of knowing it even exists is beautiful =)
Please come to the Netherlands!
Really like your reviews!
'The town of Catshoofle' 😂
The Efteling, who hasn't been there. You always have a wonderful day. Personally, I find the Dolls 🧙♂️ and Figures 👻 a bit scary🧞♂️ It is very busy, before you can enter an attraction 🎠 sometimes you have to wait half an hour🎢 But no problem🎡!!!!
Fun with the family a day out it's just a party.
Thank you,
I was in DE EFTELING for 13 minutes💚👍💛
Alot of the fairytales are from the brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen. Those are the same fairytales Disney based alot of their movies on (but then with romantic glasses on because the stories are far more brutal). I grew up with both Disney and the Brothers Grim and Hans Christian Andersen (I have alot of fairy tale books) but my preference goes towards the stories from Hans Christian Andersen. Also the bobsled ride is not there anymore, I think a twin coaster called Max & Moritz has taken it's place and that one is one crazy ride and a highlight.
The haunted house was one of y favorites. I was very sad to hear they want to demolish it.
OMG, yes! let's get together when you come here!
Dream Flight is quite awesome, really.
I'm happy they cut out Monsingeur Cannibale though... (They've removed it this year).
Its so magical...
Im actually an pass holder i visit the park at least once a week and i make vlogs there they are in dutch so you know 😉😂
7.44 Half Moon/ Halve maen, wasn't that the name of the Dutch ship that first sailed up a North-American river now named the Hudson because it was captained by English born Henry Hudson?
Yes, although the name of that ship was written as Halve Maen.
@@benoostdijk4586 Of course, it was a Dutch expedition.
@@DenUitvreter I must have made a mistake reading your reaction. I thougt you had written halve maan.
@@benoostdijk4586 I thought it would be something like that.
As if Walt Disney would ever say he copied something XD
Went to Disney land in Paris but I like the efteling waaaayyy better!!
Also I would like to add the music made for the different rides is amazing! Especially Villa Volta and of course the use of Dans Macabre for the haunted castle
I love the efteling. I go there once a month. I went there whene inwas a little girl and now my little girl is going to grow up whit the efteling….
The original European fairytales as, among others, recorded by the Grimm brothers are pretty dark and scary. Disney removed most of that. Efteling kept a lot closer to it. Kids can handle scary fairytales, it's the adults who need to be shielded from it.
Fed paper so that the children wouldn't make a mess.
It is really An awesome park
Also check out Burger's zoo. They've got giant indoor biomes.
You must watch a Aquanurashow - Tiesto version. But the first Symphony is the best for me. All Classic music, for all rides.

Do a Dutch music reaction 😌😌 love your vids, much love from the Netherlands
Paul, if you are coming over, let me know👍🏻
you should do more video’s of efteling
