I would check the Army surplus auction online. That's where I used to get my Engines from WhenI used to runThose old MCI coach buses. Bayhead brand new create motors 8v71 and 6v92 Which they used in their tanks. I used to only pay 1500 This worth a try .
If cracks in heads.. a good machine shop and stitch them.. very common in old days.. reliable.. works.. even if guys say.ohh dont.. just sayin.. cheaper then new heads
Well it looks like you purchased a long term project and money pit. lol Tires alone will be thousands, then when you tackle the motor that's going to be in the thousands also and transmission ??? who knows. I hope you have a big bank account as this is going to be a real project. Good Luck !

If you own a bus like this, you'd better have enough readily-available funds to pay for the worst-case scenario of rebuilding the engine or transmission. I had to do exactly that last year, but from day one of owning my bus I had been putting money into my bus slush fund for emergencies like that. If you don't like spending big chunks of money, old buses are not for you! They're heavy-duty commercial vehicles, not cheap little RVs, so they will cost a lot to fix properly and safely.
I have found parts for my expedition can cost more than my Prevost. if you are handy then its do-able. I guess no RV is a good investment. We could put more into mutual funds but where is the fun in that. Cant take the money with you when you die. I do see your point. @@icenijohn2
I would check the alternator, I think Bus Grease Monkey did one and the coolant goes through the alternator and can cause weird problems. I’m not certain about this, it has been a while since I watched that episode, but check it out and hopefully it will help. Have a blessed day.
I would like to know as well...most of the time rebuild kit is 5K and up. Heads are probably around 3K a side. Might be a costly project. Look forward to seeing what you do with her.

I have an 82 MC9 that I’m currently converting and had similar issues when I bought it from a church in Florida and they swore on a stack of bibles that a full inframe had been done 9,500 miles ago. I’ve found all kinds of things that show things were either not done or not done well and I’m slowly going through getting things done again and I’m currently putting rod and main bearings in it. Mine is a 5spd also. Have you found your parts suppliers and books and stuff you need? If not, let me know and I’ll send you a list of trusted sources. There are plenty of parts out here for these, especially the MC9 and the parts are fairly economical and the bus is easy to work on. What state are you in by the way? I know you said the Bus was in Ohio but didn’t know if you were there also or not. I grew up in Ohio and my brother is in the Columbus area and have a sister in the Dayton area. I’m in NC tho right now and have been since 2006. I need to get up to Columbus tho pretty soon to try and see my brother for a bit. There’s a really good parts guy in Indiana which wouldn’t be bad for ya depending upon what part of Ohio your in if your in Ohio, lol 😂, anyhows, let me know so I can get ya some help if ya still need it!! Both heads are broken you might save the cylinder kits with just rings check for bent rods
Put it on blocks, sell the engine/transmission call it home.

Sweet unit, you have some work to do but, what a unit, everything is done as far as reno?

No, coolant does not go through these. They are liquid cooled but it runs off the same oil supply as the engine, not coolant

8-10k for tires..
Where are you getting the price for the tires. It will be about 3k for the tires. 8 to 10k is saying the tires are 1k a piece.
