@@Rehabit8absolutely well done thats a mammoth task looks great. The good thing is if you want it to shine moor scotch bright it mask it of then add moor lacquer somthing you can do in the future or just leave it as it is. Very well done tho its a mammoth job
If you ever repaint the bus your selfs or paint another vehicle to most important thing to remember is if you start painting horizontally then it’s this procedure for the whole vehicle. You can do some horizontal then vertical because by doing this you will automatically see different depths and layers. The color you also choose is not the easiest for beginners AND spraying outside. Under the these conditions I think you did the best you could.

long time painter here, Journeyman status, i just wanted to add a few bits of advice for people looking to do the same thing, 1st primer doesnt need multiple coats, it just need consistant coverage even if not very thick, generally thicker coats are just to cover up imperfections, 2nd getting a smooth even coat doesnt mean to go super fast or slow, its based off the pressure of your sprayer and how well you can match that speed, the biggest things for a consistant even nice coat is Always keep a wet edge(meaning the spray coming out of your sprayer is always on a pannel that isnt fully dry) 2nd is always paint at the same exact speed at the same distance and keep the sprayer tip completely level to what you are painting, hope this helps!
I hope the grey paint has a UV block in it, or in the clear coat applied over the grey... In southern states, grey / silver paints sunburn fairly quickly.
I just watched your time lapse looking for inspiration for my own camper project and then it auto played this video and I almost switched it but for some reason I chose not to and this video was so inspiring to from you guys being diyers and showing off day to day battles with the weather or the new to painting oops 😅 it just made the video feel so much more genuine and with that kind of energy you guys attracted the blessings of Wiley a every day guy with knowledge and skill and wisdom to use it to help you guys out and probably re boost Dons confidence so shout out to him for being the hay in the needle stack

I believe that God sent the help you needed. Watching the plastic and tape come off the bus was such a huge change. She really came to her own when the plastic and tape came off. What a huge difference she is beautiful! She may not be perfect but she is beautiful.

Such a kind soul Wiley turned out to be. Hopefully it attracts some amazing karma his way. As an absolute novice, I'm sure Wiley's in person demonstration was priceless. The task of a DIY paint job on a 40 foot bus ooked immense at the start of the video & watching the reality of the weather conditions & how that impacted to equipment & yourselves blew my mind. Turned out wonderfully. The donation to a cause that would help veterans like Wiley was well done. This entire situation says so much about all three of you (Wiley /Mela/Don) charecter.

As a retired journeyman automotive painter I have to say, while I understand why you opted to paint it yourself it was a gutsy move! I'm really glad it worked out in your favor and the result looks great. I bet you now understand why it's so expensive to have pros do the work though... 😉😉

I am amazed at the way you stripped the bus down. Then rebuilt the bus. Then redesigned the bus. All the tools you had at your access for the custom wood work that was down. If you do not mind sharing the break down of the cost of the build that would be great for your fans to know so they can realized if they can afford to do this.

You guys did a great job. Well done. We are driving our ex 37ft ex Canberra bus around Australia at the moment and we intend stopping somewhere for two weeks to tackle a spray job. We are doing the prep here and there as we go and stop driving for a few days. Finding a shed and hiring the gear will be a challenge. Happy trails guys. Glen and Di.
